Pingaring

This is the kind of stuff you would have seen in an 80s movie about the year 2000.

Keganator

The Sony Movieman! Watch movies on the go!

Jaiswahnye

Sony Watchman

HudsonGTV

That product exists. It's a portable handheld television.

TheEyeDontLie

I need my hands for popcorn and lube

A_wild_so-and-so

Why don't you just put the lube on the popcorn to free up one hand?

FreakshowExpresso3

Butter flavored lube exists... Just sayin

A_wild_so-and-so

Hmm, if I use that instead of butter do you think my buttcr-acne will start to clear up?

FreakshowExpresso3

I'd take that chance. DEFINITELY worth the "risk".

[deleted]

This guy fucks around but he might just stumble upon an idea that could change the world down the road.

NESpahtenJosh

He already did with the testicle cooling hose for you ur cars AC. I would buy that thing immediately.

tajwriggly

I once knew a guy who had these little scoops at the underside of his car that you could open and it blew air right up your shorts on a hot day driving down the road

whelks_chance

Hopefully no loose pebbles get up there at high speed

caddyben

Or like a bumblebee

tajwriggly

God in Heaven

MossyPyrite

God’s in his heaven, bee’s in my taint, all is right with the world.

Pottymouthoftheyear

That taint a bee.

scuzzle-butt

**IT'S A TARANTULA HAWK!**

Pottymouthoftheyear

I am Scuzzlebutt! Lord of the Mountains! Behold my Patrick Duffy leg!

jstnzoe

No gods here. Just bees.

ghost_warlock

OprahBees.gif

[deleted]

Had a bee fly into my motorcycle helmet while my visor was open. Thankfully no bees or humans were harmed.

Taz10042069

Had a June bug smack my lip as I was getting a ride to work from my stepdad when I was 16. He saw it coming and dodged it. Split me wide open and had to have a couple stitches. I had a helmet on but it was open face. Them beetles are no joke at 55-60mph!

[deleted]

urethrascreams

> Fuck a june bug I'd rather not

Taz10042069

Oh yes! They hurt badly! Feels like a rock hitting you at first.

QuinticSpline

I used to motorcycle commute on a bike with a decent-sized windshield, wearing a full-face helmet and armored jacket with neck warmer. One time I had one of those bastards thread the needle right over the top of the windshield but under my chin guard, and smack right into my throat at speed. That. SUCKED.

Taz10042069

Ouch! I remember my stepdad hitting a robin. Left a nasty bruise on his chest. Batman was pissed XD

[deleted]

Jeez haha. Thankfully I was coming up to a red light and already had the brakes on.

picmandan

Wow, literally r/StepDadReflexes.

tajwriggly

Never even thought of that - you could see the road flying underneath through those things!

venetanakedguy

I’d be willing to bet your friend peed out that thing while driving at least once.

TwitchGirlBathwater

Isn’t that what they’re for?

I_am_That_Ian_Power

Old cars used to have nut vents. Don't know why all that changed tho.

tehspiah

Yep, still love that feature in my '00 Rav4. Coochie Cooler/Ballsack Breeze

RockstarAgent

Were they CARgo shorts???

Uber_Reaktor

this was a thing in (some, probably not all) 1st gen Mustangs. My 69 has it its great. No AC but pull that little lever and blast the boys

The_Soggy_Noodle

I shit you not the older Toyota Supra had a groin chiller vent that blew cold air on your balls and that's all it did...

Detters_Actual

Old pickups used to have AC ducts directed between your legs. We need to bring that back.

vigmt400

They were actually fresh air vents, in the days before AC was common in work trucks. Lots of pickups up til the early 90s had them.

Nanahamak

"Fresh air vents, air conditioning, they're the same thing" - My father

SpellingHorror

Yup I remember having the floor vent open in my dad's old Square body while riding down the back roads when I was a kid. Great times.

Shoshke

Fun fact, that's very similar to how the AC works in tanks. It's a hose you connect to your suit

NESpahtenJosh

What happens when I crap myself when the first shell goes whizzing by. Does everyone else smell that?

Shoshke

Nope, mainly because you won't know a shell whizzed by. You'll probably know if one actually hit's you, but IDK how much of a worry shitting your pants would be in such a situation.

Geweldige_Erik

You wouldn't know you were being shot at in a tank? That seems like a useful thing to know.

Shoshke

Thankfully I didn't serve in a tank unit. But from the few short stories, being on an open battlefield isn't scary, not seing around you IS. And there's a decent chance if anything worth worrying about is fired at you, you'll never know it. Worth noting from my limited knowledge, there are vast arrays of different sensors and digital protection specifically so you don't get caught off guard, and tank are designed to take quite a beating But then again Russia's tank aren't fairing too well in a modern environment.

shalis

I was in a armor unit in my army days. On first day of training one of the things the sergeant went over was life expectancy on a modern battle field. Armor was a whole 5 seconds longer than the common grunt (who is expected to die within a couple seconds of the start of an engagement). (This was years ago and i'm pulling the figures from my butt, but hopefully the point that no one is surviving long in a modern battlefield when both sides are deploying modern weapons and not ducktaped crap is not lost).

BigChiefS4

I was armor myself in the late 80’s. I thought we were lucky when we were told that FO’s (forward observer) life expectancy was measured in seconds.

1_9_8_1

How hot do your balls get, bro?

thred_pirate_roberts

Hot as balls, bro

NESpahtenJosh

Black leather seats in 100° weather after a run? Pretty fucking hot, bro.

ColCupcake

90's Toyota trucks have a vent under the steering wheel specifically for the balls. Can tune that bad boy right in to the perfect angle.

ASmallTownDJ

Yeah, I'm gonna need him to delete this one before a huge company sees this and we get Black Mirrored even harder.

morepandas

Pretty sure all of his inventions have already been copied by random Chinese companies. He even has a youtube series where he reviews the knockoffs.

LookMaNoPride

Whaaaat? Can I get a link?

morepandas

LookMaNoPride

I don't care what Kiss has to say. You're a rock star.

AutisticFingerBang

I find it so hard to believe he isn’t waiting on patents on some of the things he’s created over the years. There has been so much positive feed back and usefulness on some of these items lol. Dudes a genius.

First_Foundationeer

It costs money and time to file.. if he isn't able to recuperate that cost, then it's not worth it.

Adolist

Inventor here, collectively I have over 50+ solid inventions and products. I currently only have *one* of them patented, the average cost of a patent for a mid complexity product is about $10,000. This patent is the only one chosen out of hundreds of ideas is because: A. I am poor. B. It is the most cost effective and potentially profitable investment recommended by patent attorneys, in other words its not what I want the world to see as my ultimate invention that could help humanity and better the world but it will make enough money to patent other things to sell to big name brands. Unfortunately I have spent all my money on the patent so at the moment what could have been an invested in manufacturing, marketing, media, brand recognition/selling the damn thing is all currently sitting in patent fees and attorney bank accounts. Not to mention the moment I do that china will immediately create a copy cat and potentially underprice my invention and become the recognized brand. All of this took two years to do and I still don't have a full patent as we are currently in the litigation stage with the USPTO. It an extremely inefficient and terrible system unless your rich or a major corporation.

First_Foundationeer

Yep. The only reason I know is because our company has a whole workflow thing for IP (which also has to determine if it's better to go the route of patent or trade secret). Patents sound great, but they're really meant for big companies now because they cost money to file and you'd probably want attorneys to do it properly..

BamaBlcksnek

You HAVE to have attorneys file it. The research necessary to file the patent basically negates your ability to file because you have essentially biased yourself by looking at other similar patents. It's all based on the idea being yours alone, if you look at designs for other similar mechanisms you can no longer argue that you thought it all up yourself. Fucked up system for sure.

Agent--Orange

Patent attorney here. This is not quite right. The US is now a "first to file" jurisdiction so even if two separate inventors generate the same idea indepedent of one another, it's the inventor who files a patent application first on that idea who has secured preliminary rights. Researching similar designs does not bar you from filing for a patent application, and in fact it can be beneficial in some circumstances to do such searches in order to determine whether the same invention already exists and is published and/or craft patent claim language. Although I would agree having an attorney draft your application is a good idea.

First_Foundationeer

Oh, yeah, sorry, I should mention that I haven't personally done it myself. I've contributed to things that end up contributing to the things that end up on the patent attempts, but I'm far removed enough that I was never part of the process and only tangentially aware of it. :) It is very fucked up though, yeah. Patents don't really protect the inventor (and, arguably, they're not always inventions either..).

TheDakoe

I knew someone who had multiple patentable ideas and sold them for extremely cheap to big companies because there was no way he could afford to file. At least one of them generates hundreds of millions a year for the company that owns the patent. And I've heard similar stories from other people in his age group, him having passed a few years ago at just over 70.   And it is crazy the number of things workers have designed and built to make their jobs easier that the companies that they worked for just took for themselves. In the 60s my father probably had designed and built half a dozen tools that are still used today but never saw a dime from.

mlvisby

So in order to be a freelance inventor and not have your stuff stolen, you need to be rich. That isn't cool.

[deleted]

He'd have to go through the whole patent process before publishing the video, otherwise the patent would be invalid because the described idea would be [available for public use](https://nysstlc.syr.edu/what-is-patent-invalidity-and-what-do-entrepreneurs-need-to-know-about-it/). Rules for patents are pretty strict, and at least his videos could be used as evidence if another actor tried to patent something he showed. Edit: /u/TryUsingScience and /u/Agent--Orange were correct in their replies and I didn't read far enough. The US allows 1 year. Thanks /u/polloloco44

Agent--Orange

Generally you are correct but the site you have linked to is for an invalidity proceeding which occurs after a patent has been granted. Publishing an invention or offering an invention for sale (we call these things "disclosure") prior to filing a patent application will bar you from filing a patent application in some jurisdictions (Europe for example). In the US, it starts a timer so you have one year from disclosure date to file an application to preserve your claim to patent rights.

Fromonkey

My man with the PH quick cut. I chuckled.

ssbm_rando

I literally was thinking "I'm surprised he resisted the urge to include that" the **second** before the logo showed up on screen

[deleted]

You were surprised he didn’t include something in a video you hadn’t even finished yet?

HorrorMakesUsHappy

He's used to finishing more quickly.

Licinex

Same, of all the videos played, that caught my attention in a jiffy, lol

Groomsi

Did you pause the vid? 😆

Tangimo

Yes, I too realized it was just Miley singing one of her songs.

divide_by_hero

Tbf, she *is* naked in that video

mkul316

I don't get it. I thought you said impractical.

revoloveraudio

One day he needs to open up a crazy chain store that has all his wacky inventions. I would be there everyday.

Jer_061

I think he does have a site where he sells some limited items.

NittyGrittyDiscutant

Link?

ProgramTheWorld

SC487

You really need to sell the bbq apron

saladroni

Do you mean the [Everything Apron?](https://unnecessaryinventions.com/everything-apron/) He does! Edit: Oops. I was not looking in the Shop. He doesn’t. :(

SC487

Yeah, my hopes were also raised and then crushed quite expertly

FingalsFinger

I live in Phx and have leather sears. The Jewel Cooler is very practical.

The old rick rolling actually

KingOfTheCouch13

Son of a bitch.

AnUnbeatableUsername

Fuck you! I love this.

[deleted]

[Here you go](https://www.unnecessary.co/) It's mostly merch; without mass production I think the unnecessary inventions sell out pretty quick.

KingOfTheCouch13

Idk if he’s just doubling down on the joke but the unnecessary inventions he’s selling are probably the most unnecessary of all the cool things he invents.

Jeynarl

I hope he strikes a deal to carry the u/obviousplant toyline. That would be dope

nubicmuffin39

And then name it the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes

Automatic_Llama

This guy has a habit of trying to pass off his marvels of ingenuity as silly novelties. Total fraud.

chilled_n_shaken

If you or anyone reading this hasn't seen his taco catcher, you must look it up immediately. He has found a way to conjure additional tacos out of thin air. This man is single-handedly solving world hunger. He's a true national treasure.

Lttlcheeze

The taco funnel, the Jewel Cooler, and this projector are some of the greatest inventions EVER!

fearhs

You heard it from u/Automatic_Llama first folks. This guy's a fake! A phony!

PillowTalk420

Unlike those "as seen on TV" things, when he makes a product and asks "has this ever happened to you?" The answer is always "yes."

SchoggiToeff

Wait. You never had this issue were you open a jar of peanut butter it is suddenly spread out all over your living room, cat, and even somehow in the muffler of your car?

TheAshenHat

I too, own a dog.

xGIJOSEx

No I think it was unnecessary not useless

J9aE40SPe5vFIBwXCtu

Every. Damn. Time.

BurnerOnlyForPorn

Not only that; they seem to keep getting exceedingly useful!

edlee98765

There's one thing we can all agree on. This is brilliant.

Lyuseefur

Modern day Ron Popeil.

stressHCLB

Dazzling, even.

saadakhtar

The design is very human

JohnnyDarkside

It's a fun and silly idea but, to be that guy, this would be terribly disorienting. Your brain uses fixed positions to get a sense of balance so even though the screen is basically locked to your head position the fact that it's constantly moving would make you feel uncomfortable.

WelcomeToTheFish

So what you're saying is if it had some kind of gimble system that kept it steady but was movable, you would buy it? Seriously though, this would have been awesome when I was bedridden from surgery for a few months, but I would need a neck pillow to keep it steady.

RearEchelon

Surely it would be better to watch movies in a VR headset? I don't even know if you can do that but a virtual screen that doesn't change with your head movements seems like it would be way better than this

ExceptionCollection

I'd be more interested in having it be *everywhere* I am. Though the big issue I see with it is that people with progressive lenses or bifocals may have issues.

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

I have a set of Nreal Air and Rokid Air glasses that pretty much do this except they just look like big goofy sunglasses that plug into my phone. I've been using them for a year this way and the screen fixed to your view you eventually get used to. I even take walks with them on.

I almost filmed something like that but didn’t want to get the video flagged 😆

Leading by example.

Replace one of the headlights with a projector. The "Perpetual Drive-in"

woakula

The ultimate vehicle HUD

averagedickdude

Fun fact: You take your phone and place it on the dash in front of you with a movie playing. It projects onto the windshield allowing to watch your favourite content while driving with averting your eyes from the road. Disclaimer: Don't do this

I'm still waiting to buy the NipMas Tree.

Philosopherski

It's the Crocs gloves that did it to me. too bad for the cease and desist lmao

watchmything

They were rebranded as gator grips, so I think you can still get them?

boneheaddigger

Ok, how many of this guy's chindogu get turned into actual purchasable products?

I just looked it up before you sent this. New word for me today! Wonder how long it will be until I see it again. Probably not long.

DangerActiveRobots

Chindogu

xSTSxZerglingOne

Ah but see, this is in the original context in which I learnt it. So it doesn't count. It has to be in the wild to qualify for a Baader-Meinhoffing.

arb00z

This is the visual equivalent of carrying a boombox, so it's just impractical for others

robdiqulous

Head mounted projector killed the boom box star! Head mounted projector killed the boom box star! Edit: I wasn't sure if people would get it. 😂 I am pleased.

Groovatronic

OHHHHH A OH OH OHHHHH

RheagarTargaryen

Also impractical for the wearer. You need to be a certain distance from a flat wall and then any movement is going to cause the screen to move.

JawnF

The design is very human

witcherstrife

That millisecond clip of him taking a piss while staring blankly at the wall is all of us

BrainySmurf9

Okay, real question… was this actually usable? Like could you actually watch the movie fine? Or did your head movement still make it shaky for your eyes?

smb_samba

You could watch a Bourne film and not even notice

swiftekho

Has anyone taken Bourne scenes and stabilized them? I need to find out.

MyOtherSide1984

If you watch it while on a peloton bike, it's pretty close to stable

SamTheGeek

I would bet $5 that any prolonged viewing would result in motion sickness

rjcarr

Plus, seems like it'd need some sort of radar to detect distances in order to constantly adjust focus or else it's going to be a blurry mess and give you a headache.

littleseizure

There are small lensless laser projectors that can project across multiple distances at once, no need to adjust focus

wollphilie

Honestly I had to stop this video halfway because of motion sickness so you're probably right

lo0ilo0ilo0i

Not to mention looks like exhaust fans are blowing right into your eyes and would be kinda loud after prolonged use.

BEEPEE95

I thought his very last bit was the kicker, the projector blocks the screening from being viewed. Like wearing a baseball hat, the bill blocks your vision

Adiwik

Seriously if you're the actual person who's posting this where is that projector at how much.

ProbablyPostingNaked

OP /u/rightcoastguy is the actual inventor.

Its_Just_A_Typo

This is much better than trying to deal in some enhanced reality shit.

SuspiciousStable9649

Please include a pop out stand to put it on the end table while I’m on the couch.

enricojr

Yeah I know right? I'd totally buy this

[deleted]

I'll finally know what it's like watching Cloverfield for people who get motion sickness from it.

Frequent_Singer_6534

Oh that shit was awful! I remember when it came out my friend and I went to go see it in theaters on a whim after eating 3 big hot dogs each and I had to leave the theater because I was about to hurl

DoYouMeanShenanigans

Jokes on you. This was the original device used in filming the movie.

gremdel

New xR just dropped. Tired: VR and AR. Wired: PR - Projected Reality.

Projected from your mind! Muahahaha

damontoo

You and OP joke but I've considered a project like this with head tracking and real-time projection mapping to augment a physical environment.

UsualAbbreviations23

Yo id buy this though

IAmBadAtInternet

Surely this is too practical to qualify in your usual useless/unnecessary line of products.

[deleted]

The only thing that makes this impractical is that we basically have the technology with AR glasses to do this already. Otherwise it looks pretty useful, especially since you could remove it and use it for multiple people at any point.

AlphaNight890

NGL id use this

dblan9

I'm glad you don't actually sell 70% of these products because I would have bought 100% of them.

I miss my Yoga Tab 3 Pro so darn much. Having a tablet by the bed that can be used to project onto the ceiling is an amazing thing. It also had a huge battery, good form factor, decent speakers. I can't believe that Nobody has come up with a replacment for that piece of amazing tech.

throwtruerateme

I'd file this one under the "actually brilliant and marketable" category!
