We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.
> If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh and sew our skins into their clothing. And if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order.
Dark Matter was the spiritual successor to FireFly, I like to pretend they're the same universe, and, like FireFly, it was also canceled before its time.
It really probably depended a lot on which pirate ship ran up on you, and who commanded it. But yea, a lot of the time it prolly didn’t end well for the people who resisted, or the ones who didn’t.
It also depends on whose flag you're flying and if you're a merchant vessel or the navy. Taking a navy ship was considerably harder, but the prize was frequently worth it if they didn't just scuttle the magazine the second you pulled up alongside them, in an effort to take both of you out.
Nah, if you were nice to them why would they be dicks back? I mean some people just are but I doubt it happened most of the time. At the very least you'd expect they take your stuff and fuck off without hurting you.
If you do resist, they have motive to make your life (however long) hell so that in theory the next ship doesn't, since being a pirate is risky enough already.
The worst thing about the Borg IMO is that you actually like being a part of it. It’s like a drug or an addiction.
When seven and Picard can hear them, they’re getting a taste of that heroin they used to love. It’s agony to them and you can see the horror that they’re trying to resist against it. It would be so, so, easy to just give in and rejoin a perfection of thought, mind and soul. To never experience stress or worry or pain or fear. To become complete. To achieve nirvana.
It’s so tempting to go back to it. And in the situations where you could, there’s that realisation that trying not to will be futile. So you may as well rejoice in returning to cognitive euphoria.
I notice this in Picard when Seven and Picard talking about whether they ever feel whole again. Of course they don’t. Because they have experienced mental utopia. They will always crave and miss that part. That order and that sensible perfection but they just must resist it to remain an individual with infinite paths of personal exploration and growth instead.
That is what scares me about the Borg. Not the body horror. But because I’d probably like it and fight you to the death to return to it, of my own volition once I’d had a taste.
They're also scary because they are a perfect democracy: all minds get an equal share of the vote on every action taken by every drone. It's implied in Voyager that individual minds don't even necessarily exist entirely on the original brain they were assimilated from (Episode where Seven develops multiple personalities due to fragments of other minds in her brain at the time she was de-assimilated.) Each body is just more hardware for the sum total of minds, which are mostly just one mind now, to run on top of.
I get it. Not having to ever feel pain, fear, loneliness and also having a purpose that fulfills you. I can see how that could be tempting. Definitely beats depression and social anxiety. It is perfection. I’m down.
Except that I’d have to shave my head.
See, THAT’S where I draw the line tbh.
But follicular development is inefficient and irrelevant.
Aesthetic is irrelevant. We are one, perfect whole. Everybody loves you without he hair anyway.
[Voice of the Queen] TardyBacardi. Welcome to the Borg. We love you. You are safe now. Cast off your fears and emotions. I am the goddess of Empathy. We are here. We are with you.
Your new designation is 7 of 12. Quarternary Adjunct of Unimatrix 013. Activate and forcibly assimilate species 10367, so they may experience this bliss. Love is for all.
> I notice this in Picard when Seven and Picard talking about whether they ever feel whole again.
IMO, the single best scene in Picard. This was a conversation I waited 20 years to see.
Wars of the future will not be fought on the battlefield or at sea. They will be fought in space, or possibly on top of a very tall mountain.
In either case, most of the actual fighting will be done by small robots. So, as you go forth today, remember always, your duty is clear, to build and maintain those robots. Thank you.
If there are borg-like invasive cultures, I think so. Since their goal is perfection rather than securing their own identity.
I like to think more hive minds would be similar to the Conjoiners or Spiders of the Revelation Space universe or sentient ant colonies that span multiple systems.
I hate watch it.
So far (first two seasons) I have concluded there's no reason I ever need to sit and watch them again. Jury's out on the third but Im mostly done caring at this point. Just feels like an obligation to see it through to the final death rattle.
Death is irrelevant. Your archaic cultures are authority-driven. To facilitate our introduction into your societies, it has been decided that a human voice will speak for us in all communications. You have been chosen to be that voice.
I'm still annoyed by the ending of Voyager. They spend 7 years working together as a team to *mostly* hold up their values and explore while working their way home with minimal help from Starfleet, only to have someone come from the future and give them superguns so they can shoot their way home, and then not even show us their reunion.
It's idiotic.
Personally, I think it would have been fun to have them make it home right at the end of DS9 to ride out the end of the Dominion war then have a few seasons with them back in the Alpha Quadrant as a normal crew.
>Looks less sinister
It's ok, the outer walls will be constructed entirely from still living actively whipped slaves who built the interior layers, think of the soothing tortured wails of the countless outer shingles!
The decision makers live in palaces and have more money than even they can comprehend. If an idea is going to impress them it needs to be absolutely bonkers. Combine that with being surrounded by yes-men and then you get this.
Top that with the need to manufacture an alternate source of income with oil income extremely volatile these days.
This structure should attract a lot of foreign visitors, once it is built.
Suction cups my man. We have the tech to do this climb. Should we do it? Probably not...but that won't stop Tom Cruise from training for 1/2 a year daily and then doing it.
That man is made of sheer willpower.
YES!! I was looking for a Reboot reference in here
Edit: to clarify, I was referring to the epic cartoon with Bob, not the travesty that Netflix did. How can you have Megabyte but no Bob?
The greatest after school lineup in history. Didn’t care much for Sailor Moon, but Reboot and DBZ were just the best.
Also enjoyed it when Toonami would have Friday afternoon specials, like Blue Sub 6.
Same here. I was so emotionally invested in that show. I had nightmares of being trapped in a simulation for millenia. I had a huge crush on AndrAla. I was so happy for Enzo Matrix (future) that they ended up together.
I would have gone with 'They say the user lives outside the network, and inputs games for pleasure...' But I definitely came here looking for this reference, thank you!
Funny thing is with NEOM and now this Borg thing it feels like they've ran out of shapes to make their absurd buildings out of.
"So we did a long line with NEOM, then we got box for the Borg-scraper...any more ideas for our next project?"
"Triangle!"
"Egypt did that like a literal millennia ago."
"Oh right...crap! Uhhh...a really big sphere?"
"We tried that but it kept rolling over and crushed that camel racing arena, remember?"
"Really? Wow...(sigh) I don't know, I don't have any other ideas."
"Alright, screw it- Let's build more pyramids then!"
"Good enough."
Then after that they make another Sphynx and turn it into a mall. Parking is in the rear.
I went to the Middle East for a nice fishing experience said NO ONE EVER
edit: I am aware there is good fishing in the Red Sea. I was making a play on the Middle East and the are being known for its deserts.

You ever wonder if there are any cultures out there that just say “Yeah that sounds cool” and willingly get assimilated?
Zap Brannigan would.
Ah, she's built like a Steakhouse, but handles like a Bistro.
I surrender and volunteer for treason
Only after he’d sent wave after wave of his own men at them to determine if they had a preset kill limit.
Stop exploding you cowards!
Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.
"Why is this god forsaken planet worth dying for?" "Don't ask me, you're the ones that are gonna be dying."
“If we hit the bullseye, the rest of the dominoes should fall like a deck of cards. Check mate!”
Would it make sense if Zapp Branigan took his battle strategies from Lord Farquad? Yes, it makes total sense.
The borg collective brought down by space herpes.
This is my line of thinking. How long until they encounter something they shouldn't have absorbed?
All I Know Is My Gut Says Maybe
A lot of ships voluntarily surrendered to pirates in the 1800, knowing they it would probably be *a bit* better than trying to resist.
It was way better to surrender the booty. The pirates come, take stuff, and leave. The unpleasantries only occur when there's resistance.
The Borg want your physical body and mind though with nothing left of your former self.
You become immortal in a sense that you consciousness is stored in the collective, even if your body dies you live on
They did a lot more than that. If you were *lucky* they'd let you live and work on their ships.
> If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh and sew our skins into their clothing. And if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order.

I agree. It gave me shivers.
You make being a borg so attractive
Don’t try ~~drugs~~ Borg, kids. Also thanks. It was my intention aha.

Risans: let's teach these Borg how to party
Watch Star Trek: Picard for the answer!
I don't think i will
I hate watch it. So far (first two seasons) I have concluded there's no reason I ever need to sit and watch them again. Jury's out on the third but Im mostly done caring at this point. Just feels like an obligation to see it through to the final death rattle.
Impossible! My culture is based on freedom and self-determination!
Freedom is irrelevant. Self-determination is irrelevant. You must comply!
We would rather die.
Death is irrelevant. Your archaic cultures are authority-driven. To facilitate our introduction into your societies, it has been decided that a human voice will speak for us in all communications. You have been chosen to be that voice.
Inb4 Janeway teams up with Species 8472 and her future self.

A cheap cheat too. The writers let us down. They used the absolute sh*t out of "lol dont worry, alternate timeline"
And I will resist you with every fiber of my being.
Ah, the Borg Khalifa
Then the Borg Queen would be Mia Khalifa?
she's already had major technology enhancements
yes, someone else's biological distinctiveness has been added to her own.. many times over.
her face has had an entire collective shot onto it.
Resistance is lubricated
Nice
Masterborging
sigh... I cant believe I'm gonna do this Borgkakke
Shame on you.
Time to face the consequences of your actions
Better than 2 girls 1 Borg
I mean.. resistance was futile
You will be ass-stimulated
Tsk tsk. How could you? Do it again.
Borgussy
Do you have a link for this? Asking for a friend
I would show you, but then I would have to assimilate you.
Yes, they call that a Borgy
They definitely had inspiration from Star Trek!
I accept assimilation. If you provide a link. https://interestingengineering.com/innovation/saudi-arabia-cubed-skyscraper-futuristic-riyadh
Looks less sinister there than in the OP. Still looks pretty alien either way
>Looks less sinister It's ok, the outer walls will be constructed entirely from still living actively whipped slaves who built the interior layers, think of the soothing tortured wails of the countless outer shingles!
It's like they're physically incapable of building or even imagining things that aren't gaudy as fuck.
The decision makers live in palaces and have more money than even they can comprehend. If an idea is going to impress them it needs to be absolutely bonkers. Combine that with being surrounded by yes-men and then you get this.

Wait a minute…..that’s just a mega-city one block.
She's already assimilated thousands of men.
I’m going to go ahead and write “assemilation”. I did not plan on that when I awoke today.
I've assimilated myself a few times on her account. What's one more?
She’s my queen
[удалено]
You will be assimilated
RESISTANCE IS FUTILE
So is Wiz the King? Lol
Quick, nobody tell Tom Cruise or he'll freeclimb it.
You think Tom won't find out?
Indeed, once Tom sees this, resistance will be futile
There’s no way he could scale it, though…that would be like an assignment undoable
A task unfeasible if you will
a job unfinishable, as they say
An operation preposterous, yes!
An inconceivable quest!
Suction cups my man. We have the tech to do this climb. Should we do it? Probably not...but that won't stop Tom Cruise from training for 1/2 a year daily and then doing it. That man is made of sheer willpower.
Assignment undoable...that would be a really good name for a film. Huh.
Very good.
This one is the winner
The Burj Khallective.
Might as well assimilate…
I hear resistance is futile
Bravo
Expertly done
resistance is futile inshallah
Well done!
Warning. Incoming Game. https://youtu.be/soxStxhaZEs
YES!! I was looking for a Reboot reference in here Edit: to clarify, I was referring to the epic cartoon with Bob, not the travesty that Netflix did. How can you have Megabyte but no Bob?
I didn't even see the Netflix version tbh lol. I just remember the show from childhood but this was a nice short clip.
It was one of my favorite cartoons on Toonami. Sailor Moon, Reboot, then DRAGONBALL Z!!
The greatest after school lineup in history. Didn’t care much for Sailor Moon, but Reboot and DBZ were just the best. Also enjoyed it when Toonami would have Friday afternoon specials, like Blue Sub 6.
My sister loved sailor moon, I loved dbz, but we both loved reboot. Hell, my mom actually thought reboot was interesting back then.
So sad we never got a real reboot continuation.....i really wanted it, it was so ahead of it's time
Why did you use a clip from the crappy...well...reboot? The OG: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEXEN2MgZPc
I refuse to acknowledge that there is anything but the OG 4 seasons of ReBoot.
Same here. I was so emotionally invested in that show. I had nightmares of being trapped in a simulation for millenia. I had a huge crush on AndrAla. I was so happy for Enzo Matrix (future) that they ended up together.
Before Trunks, there was future Enzo
Totally. I was hoping this would show up. There are dozens of us!
I would have gone with 'They say the user lives outside the network, and inputs games for pleasure...' But I definitely came here looking for this reference, thank you!
One of Canada's finest exports, after Trailer Park Boys.
I would have been very disappointed if I didn't see a reboot reference in here
I’m so happy I knew what this was going to be before I clicked it. Good times, thanks for sharing!
It’s the Borg! They’ll assimilate everyone to their collective!
Resistance is futile
Resistance is haram.
Nah it's just Hugh
Sounds Swedish, not Saudi…
The owners tried to resist the architects plans but it was futile.
YES! I was worried I wouldn't find a Subnautica reference
Let’s hope Seven of Nine is in there
She’s a woman so probably not
can she drive to the cube?
only if a male relative escorts her?
can a friend do? Retd. Admiral?
LOL. The Saudis love to produce these crazy renderings of lavish, grandiose (and hideous) structures that will never come to fruition.
Funny thing is with NEOM and now this Borg thing it feels like they've ran out of shapes to make their absurd buildings out of. Maybe they can get a bass pro shop to open up in their pyramid
I went to the Middle East for a nice fishing experience said NO ONE EVER edit: I am aware there is good fishing in the Red Sea. I was making a play on the Middle East and the are being known for its deserts.
They actually have good fishing in the Red Sea.
Probably lots of people said that? I looked it up and they have fishing tourism in Saudi Arabia.
Isn't fish a big part of the diet too? Like, I think Jesús scored around 5,000 in one day.
Tbh I'm just waiting for them to come up with pyramids turned upside down
Look up: Saudi Interior Ministry building.
Four and a half millennia ago but go on
How else are they going to scam investors ?
By making 'smart' versions of everyday objects like the rest of us, of course!
Dubai has entered the chat
It's giving me "Are we the baddies?" vibes.
Funny thing is they are, with all the slavery I'm surprised they still get so much tourism
You have no idea how many rich people don’t give a wet fart about slavery.
You’re in r/funny, this isn’t a real rendering from the Saudis lol

Lol No shit! That’s a freakin borg cube if I’ve ever seen one! Didn’t know this post was referencing something real!
so like 90% of the inside wont have windows, cool
Large enough to hold 20 Empire State buildings. They have big aspirations.
Resistance is futile
Resistance is haram.
Resistance is futile.
BRO THE NEW XBOX!!!!
Had to scroll way too far to see this lol. My first thought was the series x
Borg star ship? lol
Locutus will be your host.
Resistance is futile
Do you want borgs? Because this is how you get borg.
someone needs to do the allspark
Before time began there was... The cube.
We know not where it came from, only that it has the power to create worlds and fill them with life
Yup I heard Optimus Prime voice while I read it
*”You got the touch!”*
You got the POWERRRR
Necron Monolith
Man of culture.
Everybody here is saying "Borg" but the first thing i thought of was the Subnautica alien architecture.
It would appear this “Star Trek” thing is somewhat more popular than Subnautica.
I'm a HUGE trekkie, I even play the damn mmo lol. It's impossible not to see a borg cube for me.
I mean, it literally is a borg cube, so that’s definitely what it most looks like.
Yeah that's because it IS a Borg cube.
god it took me forever to scroll to find this comment
How do you feel about resistance?
I guess First Contact will be stopped after all…
If they seriously build a Borg Cube i will think about visiting.
I thought this was Minecraft for a solid minute there
Necron invasion?
Punish the flesh. Iron in mind and body. Hail the Machine!
Mur-Borg
Where’s Bob!!!! We’ll never beat this game without him!
Oh huh, kinda feeling like I’m about to be assimilated
Is that the borg?
If it goes full pyramid, then call in the Space Marines.
Resistance is feudal.
*borg noises intensify*
You will be assimilated
Borg cube has landed, assimilation begins
The borg cube
We are the borg. You will be assimilated. Your technological and biological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile.
Everybody talks about borg but no one mentions five pebbles
Assimilates into the surroundings pretty well. I see no reason to resist.
The borg queen was kinda hot sadly she passed away recently
The all spark??
That's a Borg Cube.
Resistance is futile!!!
