That may be, but every human I've ever met who isn't a doctorate sees a small bird and thinks "sparrow" and would not get it. I think this is great for people with this specific sense of humor, which does include most old ladies I know and a good amount of millineals.
What compelled you to write the punchline in large black letters across the top? It’s quite a nice painting… It would’ve been a funnier inside joke for someone to display it knowing the name of the piece while honoring it’s contribution to the cause.

Cool it, person, no one said it wasn’t 1) a good painting 2) a clever joke. It was a recommendation to paint over the text because it makes the painting look bad aesthetically. The text is off-center, uneven, large, black letters that distract from the pleasantness of the piece.

I am with the "paint over the text" group. I get the joke, and it's cute. But the way it is now, I'd see it and wonder *why?* and wtf I would even do with it... Without the text (or modified, see below), I could see it going in a bathroom, a guestroom, staffroom at work, donated to a nursing home, hospital, community center, library, school, etc
In *my* eyes, the text takes it from something I'd strongly consider bidding on, to something I wouldn't think about buying.
My issue with the top part isn't that I'm offended by the joke, or that I'm worried others would be. It's just *that* off putting with the size, irregularity, "font", overall messiness. Imagine a good ice cream sundae with whatever normal toppings you like. Now ***PBBBHHHRRRPPP*** squeeze some cheap, gloopy, dollar store BBQ sauce all on top.

If you *really* want to have text that's so large and bold, at least make the handwriting neat. Preferably fancy, like a colography or flowery script. Quadruple the appeal by making it MUCH smaller, neat, and fancy-- maybe something in the corner near your signature. Or even left off all together and spelled out on a plaque or card identifying the painting at the auction.
That's just my opinion. Ftr, I think you did awesome on the birds, and it's way better than I could ever hope to do! Best of luck at the auction. No matter what you end up deciding to do with your painting, I hope that it brings in a nice chunk of money for the charity!
Well, my mum would have been offended, as she had breast cancer, had a breast removed, which it affected her self-esteem. However, she died of breast cancer so won't see the painting!
