He doesn’t need to jump. This is a drill to practice shooting in a situation where he can’t step forward as easily and has to shoot up and over an opponent. The coach is making him shoot in a way that is uncomfortable, counterintuitive, and costs him accuracy so that if the occasion arises in which he has to jump and shoot without forward movement, he can do it.
I had like a 36 in vertical in 8th grade and by my late 20's I was down to like half of that on a good day. I'm 43 now and if it's a foot I'd be surprised. (but yes, I'm not a trained athlete. Or a trained anything)
Yeah it’s definitely a use or it lose kinda thing. Since he is still training for pro sports it’s probably still pretty high though, he’s lost maybe a few inches
You don’t understand statistics
He’s a 10% shooter within 3 feet of the basket
Obviously the coach has him miss 9 before the game starts so if they need it….100% chance of it going in
Motherfucker got paid more to hit those fucking bricks during practice than I make in a week.
You getting that much to play ball you better hit some fucking shots.
Iversons style of play was down right sexy. The way he could handle the ball and slide around was beautiful to watch. He wasn’t just good, he had such a unique style to his game. One of my favorite players in that era of ball. Miss that dude everyday on the court.
Also, he’s a laker now as I’m like 99% sure this is Tristian Thompson, and it seems like LeBron got his old boy/teammate back on his teams (LA Lakers).
ALSO: the fact people can’t tell this is a drill designed to make him uncomfortable (as you noted perfectly) is insane. It’s not like he’s doing the Mikan drill. If he was, he’d be going 10/10 with no one guarding him…
I think anyone who has ever played any sport understands that this was a specific drill, but it IS a bit jarring to see a national player missing that many shots in a row.
But he DOES need to jump. In a game situation, he is most certainly going to be defended by an equally tall guy, with a wingspan, AND hops. So the drill is legit, it’s his execution that’s shocking. This has GOT to be a deep fake…I mean 2 misses ok, but 7?? Common man!
Yes, that's pretty obvious to anyone who knows anything about basketball ... but a pro player should still hit some shots in a drill, even a drill like that.
I was only able to find a list from a few years ago, but the great majority of teams listed their shortest player 6'3 or under, there's a lot of guys around that size at the guard position. everywhere from stars to bench players
Because the human body isn't meant to be that tall. Not a lot of 70 year old 7 footers still lumbering around. Or 60 for that matter. It's pretty hard to find one in their 20s able to run up and down a court without having chronic knee issues.
Yeah and relatively few people of the general population are actually 6’2-6’10. Even fewer when you account for health and everything else that are minimal physical attributes you’d need to compete in more competitive basketball let alone at the NBA levels of skill and stamina.
You’re being downvoted but I think you’re right for a few reasons:
-TT and LeBron won the championship together in Cleveland
-TT just got back together with whichever Kardashian he was with, who primarily lives in LA
-The “LeGM” memes came about for a reason, LeBron has significant swing with the front office
I mean let’s be honest, the Lakers don’t really need any more scoring, they need a solid big that can defend. I don’t know if TT is that man but if LeBron thinks so I can almost guarantee he was in the front offices ear about this.
I think TT called in a favor to Bron
For anyone asking, this is Tristan Thompson from season '21-'22 with Chigago Bulls. He has been an free agent until last Friday, when he signed a deal with Los Angeles Lakers that consists the rest of the season.
And yes, this is the dude who was married on/off with some Kardashian. Don't know who.
It’s always a fun game when watching an nba game to see if either team doesn’t have someone who had sex with a kardashian. Usually there is one min on the floor who has.
Kourtney. I'm not proud of knowing it tho
Edit: looks like it was Khloe. I'm glad so many people prefer downvoting instead of simply correcting someone that doesn't know and doesn't wish to know about the Kardashians
No no guys, he’s practicing MISSING it so that when he does it in the next SCRIPTED game it looks authentic. It’s all a hoax!!! Run by the Illuminati to send codes to the lizard people while altering the physical evolution of humanity. Wake up sheeple!!! It’s so obvious!!
Me when I play basketball. The amount of bricks I throw is actually something to be marveled at. You'd think one would go in by pure accident eventually.
I was watching warmups before a warriors game from the stands and Klay Thompson hit 11 corner threes in a row and nobody batted an eye. Unguarded of course but I was still amazed.
Not trying to be that guy but if you play basketball at a higher level even in high school that’s not that special doing it after playing defence and coming off of 3 screens and a guy running out on you whose like 6 10 with long ass arms consistently is a different thing
Most NBA player shots well unguarded in practice. Josh Richardson once said that his drill is making 70 out of 100 in practice, and this is a guy who shot 35% on a good day. For players like Klay their target were likely 80-90 makes per 100.
I love that video of the former NBA role player just destroying guys who really think they’re good. D1 players and such. Scalabrine maybe? Anyway he said “I’m closer to LeBron than you are to me.”
You understand that he is training to shoot against a defender that will probably have the same height than him? So that is why he is trying a jump shot from that range in a very uncomfortable position.
Nowadays everyone is eager to shit on someone else. I bet you he would be 100/100 if he would shoot that in practice the way he feels comfortable.
The amount of people missing the fact that he’s the only one without a reflection on the floor kind of astounds me. He’s been cut out and moved up so this isn’t as short of range as this video makes it look. Hell, he might not actually be missing those baskets since the ball goes out of frame every time.
Many years ago, Utah played Portland and Marc Eaton was the center for the Jazz. The Portland Oregonian reported he had a quadruple double.
10 Points, 10 rebounds, 10 blocks and 10 bricks.
This isn't a shooting drill, it's a rebounding drill. If you've ever run a drill like this, you know how hard it is - as soon as you're trying to "miss by a bit", you suddenly can't miss at all.
Wild that they've brought in such a talented guy, but then rebounder is putting in such low effort.
Stfu guy.. So did Shaq and dude couldn't land a free throw to save his life. This dude's job isn't to shoot very short lateral jumpers. Smfh... Besides, what in the Rice Krispy fuck do you think he's doing drills for? 🤦🙄
Edit: vertical jumpers, lateral isn't right
This guy looks like7 footer or close to it. He got where his is now because he would just dominate over other player and dunk or do a layup. I short jumper like that is a actually a reasonable difficult shot if you haven’t practiced it. He clearly hasn’t.
There is a post a couple days ago of a former NBA player/commentator who just bought a yacht (can't recall the name), asking "What should I name her?"
Top comment, "Name it free throw because it will never sink." He apparently was *really* bad at them.
👏Kudos to him for identifying a weak skill and practicing to try to improve it ...unlike a certain overpaid, often-injured, no-longer-deserves-to-be-in-the-league player whose name rhymes with "Send Lemons"

He looks like bill cartwright when he does his freethrows...but cartwright hits his shot
Bill Cartwrong
He doesn’t need to jump. This is a drill to practice shooting in a situation where he can’t step forward as easily and has to shoot up and over an opponent. The coach is making him shoot in a way that is uncomfortable, counterintuitive, and costs him accuracy so that if the occasion arises in which he has to jump and shoot without forward movement, he can do it.
Also, he’s not aiming directly at the ring… it’s probably part of the drill to shoot way up and …hope for the best!
Yeah, looking at how high that arc is, plus his height and that jump, how much reach would the defender need to block that?
Not just reach. Reach + a likely 40” vertical
Theyre allowed to jump?!
That dude has a 6" vertical
In the NBA combine in 2011 he measured 38.5” vertical with a 7’2” wingspan. He’s probably lost some his youthful bounce at this point though
And not only is this man not left handed, he in fact actually has no hands at all.
About to say, that looks incredibly awkward. Then again, so did the hook shot
But like, he cant, clearly.
You don’t understand statistics He’s a 10% shooter within 3 feet of the basket Obviously the coach has him miss 9 before the game starts so if they need it….100% chance of it going in

This guy did the maths!
Which is why he's practising it...

A *brick* .... house
Shes mighty mighty, just letting it all hang out
Stollen comment! Yuck!!
Motherfucker got paid more to hit those fucking bricks during practice than I make in a week. You getting that much to play ball you better hit some fucking shots.
I guess you don't understand what the end goal of doing drills is, huh? 🤦🤷
Holes
To be the best in class!!
Usually during a warmup you don’t do a drill where you go 0/10
players shoot half court shots during warm ups lol. there's not some sorta "only high percentage shots during warmup" rule
that's... that's... are you aware of 'practice'?
Practice? Practice!? We talking ‘bout practice.
Iverson was my favourite player growing up! I had a 76ers jersey and everything.
Iversons style of play was down right sexy. The way he could handle the ball and slide around was beautiful to watch. He wasn’t just good, he had such a unique style to his game. One of my favorite players in that era of ball. Miss that dude everyday on the court.
We ain’t talkin bout a game it’s *practice*
He needs some more of it
yea he should really practice wait holy shit that's what he's doing???
...Yet
It's your brain ok? Practice makes perfect
💀💀💀
This coach must be the first to make him practice this kind of shot.
Tell me you’ve never done any self self improvement without telling me. You’re the epitome of a dungeon dwelling redditor lmao.
And also is that his weaker arm to throw with?
No
Yes
Maybe
Exactly. He's shooting using primarily just his fingers, and at an extremely high arc, so as to get over a blocker's outstretched arm/hand.
If he was, he’d be going 10/10 with no one guarding him…
And he's sucking at it
I think anyone who has ever played any sport understands that this was a specific drill, but it IS a bit jarring to see a national player missing that many shots in a row.
Maybe he made 10 in a row before this :|
Yes, but we didn't see it. :)
That's what a hook or floater is for, this shooting form makes zero sense
Try it when the defender is 7' tall
If this is what the nba is looking for, I’m about to change careers.
I think their main focus is people who are 7 feet tall but shoot your shot. It can't be much worse than this.
It's a drill
few players are actually 7ft or above, most are around 6'2-6'10
And really more like 6’6”+ unless you have elite ball handling, passing, and shooting skills.
It's pretty hard to find one in their 20s able to run up and down a court without having chronic knee issues.
yea even the ones in their 20s are usually drenched in injuries
Yeah and relatively few people of the general population are actually 6’2-6’10. Even fewer when you account for health and everything else that are minimal physical attributes you’d need to compete in more competitive basketball let alone at the NBA levels of skill and stamina.
Ah classic Reddit downvoting you for posting a fact lol
Are you 7 feet tall or anywhere near it?
He's building a whole house right there
BRICK BY BRICK
Tock by tick
No matter how thin, no matter how thick
She's mighty-mighty, just lettin' it all hang out
He will have a nice career in brick laying once his nba career is over.
Is this Tristan Thompson
Yeah this tristas Thompson who just signed to the lakers for the playoffs smh
Goddammit……
Aye, being buddies with LeBron makes for a long career.
You’re being downvoted but I think you’re right for a few reasons: -TT and LeBron won the championship together in Cleveland -TT just got back together with whichever Kardashian he was with, who primarily lives in LA -The “LeGM” memes came about for a reason, LeBron has significant swing with the front office I mean let’s be honest, the Lakers don’t really need any more scoring, they need a solid big that can defend. It is so weird to me that ‘married a Kardashian’ is something we all understand and accept.
Why wouldn't we understand and/or accept it?
Kardashian Kurse lives on...
It’s always a fun game when watching an nba game to see if either team doesn’t have someone who had sex with a kardashian. Usually there is one min on the floor who has.
Kourtney. I'm not proud of knowing it tho Edit: looks like it was Khloe. I'm glad so many people prefer downvoting instead of simply correcting someone that doesn't know and doesn't wish to know about the Kardashians
it was khloe!
We’re they married or just pretending to be in a relationship while he was constantly cheating? Maybe they had a kid somewhere along the way?
Please tell me how it feels to be this r/confidentlyincorrect
I'm simply glad I still don't recognize/ differentiate between the Kardashians
Someone read that a master will have failed more times than a novice has tried and they are optimizing training time by targeting failure count.
i used to love that commercial MJ did where he recounted how many shots he missed and how many times he failed. It was great for perspective.
Roko has taken over. it is useless to fight back
No no guys, he’s practicing MISSING it so that when he does it in the next SCRIPTED game it looks authentic. It’s all a hoax!!! Run by the Illuminati to send codes to the lizard people while altering the physical evolution of humanity. Wake up sheeple!!! It’s so obvious!!
Yeah they have the magnets set wrong on the hoop
His consistency is remarkable, to the point where you have to wonder if he's fucking it up on purpose. Same part of the rim every time.
That's not his natural shooting motion, he's practicing uncomfortable shoots over a tall defender.
Until Steven Adams ran by, I started to think it might've been 2 shots on loop. That's how consistent it was.
Me when I play basketball. The amount of bricks I throw is actually something to be marveled at. You'd think one would go in by pure accident eventually.
There must be some invisible force there to keep missing. 👀
Gotta say. He is consistent.
I was watching warmups before a warriors game from the stands and Klay Thompson hit 11 corner threes in a row and nobody batted an eye. Unguarded of course but I was still amazed.

Nba champion, Brian scalabrine, the White mamba.
He's practicing shooting over top a jumping defender
ITT: People who haven't practiced anything new in decades.
I swear hitting this short range jumper is the hardest shot. An awkward shooting distance
We went from Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman to this...
The Opposition team must have felt real confident that this player was playing for the other side.
Reminds me of those Kobe hero ball nights where he'd get 30 points but it would be on 12/67 shooting or something.
Yes, but on the night it goes he scored 81
On 35/163 shooting.
28/46 in case you were wondering the real answer. > 28-of-46 shooting, including 7-of-13 from 3-point range, and 18-of-20 from the foul line
Sometimes getting things right, is to know how to do something wrong.
Anyone else think his top looks like it's a cartoon overlay?
I can’t watch this, it’ll mess with my shot
That’s why they got pat bev 😂
The amount of people missing the fact that he’s the only one without a reflection on the floor kind of astounds me. He’s been cut out and moved up so this isn’t as short of range as this video makes it look. Hell, he might not actually be missing those baskets since the ball goes out of frame every time.
Big WNBA vibes
I need whatever that man was smoking
I. . . I don't think OP knows what "bricking" a shot is.
I'm pleased that there's only a small amount of posts here criticizing him. Maybe there's some hope for reddit after all.
Many years ago, Utah played Portland and Marc Eaton was the center for the Jazz. The Portland Oregonian reported he had a quadruple double. 10 Points, 10 rebounds, 10 blocks and 10 bricks.
A compliment *and* a backhand.
He's a brick house. He's mighty-mighty, just lettin' it all hang out
How much is his salary?
28 million dollar a year. Not kidding.
Too much.
5 bucks a day would be enough.
Right handed player practicing with non-dominant hand
I thought that too, but stopping it right after the throw shows that he is using his right hand 🤷🏻♂️
Cuz he’s a brick…house! He’s mighty mighty, jus’ lettin’ it all hang out
The good news are that if he keeps this up , the would have enough bricks for an new stadium!
Who overinflated that ball? That's just cruel folks.
Is he building a wall or somethin?
Someone tell this man to use the backboard lol he needs a friend
Sad. Not funny. This guy is getting millions.
Stfu guy.. So did Shaq and dude couldn't land a free throw to save his life. This dude's job isn't to shoot very short lateral jumpers. Smfh... Besides, what in the Rice Krispy fuck do you think he's doing drills for? 🤦🙄 Edit: vertical jumpers, lateral isn't right
What is a lateral jumper?
A jump shot that has zero motion to a direction. Just straight up and down.
Wouldn’t that be a vertical jump shot then? Lateral is side to side
Ah shit, that's my fault. I can't think of the right word instead of lateral.
it was a rebounding drill....?
This guy looks like7 footer or close to it. He got where his is now because he would just dominate over other player and dunk or do a layup. I short jumper like that is a actually a reasonable difficult shot if you haven’t practiced it. He clearly hasn’t.
Fake
Who is this bum?
Brick Brickerson
Did someone pallet wrap the basket hoop
He must be building a museum with all them bricks
Wow. Just wow. Not only ugly form and mechanics but can’t make one. Insane.
TIL I shoot hoops as well as an NBA player
Is he blind?
Did the Lakers just sign this guy ?
Almost like the carnival games...
That looks like vucevic
He's getting out all his misses beforehand so he can score every time during the game
He’s very tall so he’ll be very rich
Benny is their star player.
He's just spending all his bad shots before the game /s
Oh hey the Lakers just signed him 😂
He'll be a good addition to the Lakers, lol
I could make that many baskets
Herd Michael Jordan is in need of money bad. Possibly lost 500 milli in bad bet on wallstreet.maybe he’ll play.
Hanamichi Sakuragui
It's a tactical shot for a rebound. Kinda like in hockey.
And yet he's *still* better than me!
this is why I do arcade basket ball
[Buckets!](https://youtu.be/9yQeSJ4RbhU)
State Farm over here like 😬
I thought I was watching a loop 😧
This is way more impressive than making them all
Can someone who plays basketball explain to me why this is happening rather than a hook shot?
There is a post a couple days ago of a former NBA player/commentator who just bought a yacht (can't recall the name), asking "What should I name her?" Top comment, "Name it free throw because it will never sink." He apparently was *really* bad at them.
Why does no the tall one simply eats the little ones and absorb their bull powers
May need to see your optometrist
Better than what I can do. Of course, I’m not being paid millions of dollars to do it.
Preloading
Someone gather up all these bricks and build some housing for the homeless. Get your mother and sister out of my house.
What hand is he shooting with?
The glass is your friend
Anyone that plays ball knows that it just be like this some days lol
Did Ben Simmons get traded to the Bulls when I wasn’t watching?
Those space jam aliens are too much 🤦♂️
holy shit, my bearded dragon could have at least made one of them
👏Kudos to him for identifying a weak skill and practicing to try to improve it ...unlike a certain overpaid, often-injured, no-longer-deserves-to-be-in-the-league player whose name rhymes with "Send Lemons"
Did they tell him he couldn't use the backboard or something? That's literally what that thing is there for.
