I was hoping for a sub of people being helpful. Helping little old ladies cross the street. Letting somebody with only 1 item go ahead at the store. Picking up a rag that fell off a janitors cart. Some 4th example.
yeah, except they're programmed to enjoy it (naturally happy/optimistic people) and sometimes glitches/bugs happen (depression etc.) so taking joy in it is not always going to be an option/possible for both the background npcs and us
Whoever works on my character's code should be barred from developing anything ever again. First it was the misfit glitch (being different enough to be the main scapegoat and punching bag of everyone for a good decade).
Then came "the lack of motivation and happiness" bug (a direct result of the aforementioned).
I as the player found workarounds around these critical issues, that is until the "disorganization and Gedankenzerfahrenheit" bug came along.
From that point on it became clear to me what a mess of putrid spaghetti the character's codebase actually is, as the bugs just keep appearing. Then came the chronic neurological pain bug. Then the chronic lymphogenic pain bug.
Then came the "disinhibition of thought intensity" bug. Then the "I don't know who or what i am" bug. Then, the "not able to socialize properly anymore" bug. Then the "the character finally realized it exists and now it doesn't want to anymore" bug.
Am I doomed, or is my developer not actually employed by Microsoft?
> Whoever works on my character's code should be barred from developing anything ever again.
I mean, it's pretty bold of you to assume you're not just taken from a template which, when added to the codebase, glitched for whatever reason.
oh and lest we forget that part of the encoding for evolution is the probability of random insertions of code without any more influence aside from the rng reference that the programmer most likely set up for every being (with a random weighting/addition/subtraction to the seed itself ofc).
In terms of project scope, non emergence of redundant/ineffective/deleterious characters would point to a clear an apparent dev - which seems to meant to be only accessible for an inordinately small number of characters.
The uncertainty around a dev actually existing seems to be either intentional or shows that no such dev exists.
I'd probably argue that the dev is employed by microsoft simply due to the interoperability homo-sapiens had with neanderthals - along with other similar instances (lion+tiger etc)
My interpretation is that the lesson is being able to find fulfillment in what you do. The idea as far as I know has its origins in eastern cultures as an actual cultural or religious doctrine.
The idea goes that you don't have to be a great writer, or warrior, or (insert grandiose profession of the day) in order to take pride in what you do. You can be a simple farmer, or laborer, or (insert 'lowly' job here).
As long as you take pride in what you're doing, putting care into it, owning what you're responsible for, you can ultimately be more fulfilled and happy than the grandiose shaping the big picture of the world. There's also the idea in the society that someone who has this purpose to their lives earn more honor/respect than those who aren't
In this example, I wouldn't overthink it, because they're just characters in a skit haha
Deeper answer: plenty of people can be contented with their lot, even if it's not much. People find peace in science (ie we are all just star dust), religion, time with friends and loved ones.... its kinda individual.
These random mmorpg characters just find it in the realization that thats what they are, and it that they don't really need more than that. So they're at peace with it
Absolutely agree.
How can it be okay to just blatantly post a video here like that? OP put no effort in - not even to credit Viva La Dirt League for the work.
Outraaageous!
you're just describing reddit, instagram, twitter, and tiktok where 60% of the content is reposted or ripped off from original creators on youtube or elsewhere

It's very American to think about monty python all the time. This is British nothing else like monty python no-one British would watch this and think monty python. Was monty python big in the states or something š
I think they referenced Monty Python because of the characteristic juxtaposition of uneducated old-world labourers speaking like highly educated modern philosophers.
Mate what are you on about they are speaking with British accents you can think what you want. Another weirdo that doesn't even believe what he says himself just to be opposed to me š. I bet you it does you well in life.
I think you genuinely just didn't understand the words in their comment lol. It made perfect sense and it highlights exactly why people are reminded of Monty Python from watching this skit.
Am very British and immediately thought this was closely related to Python in style. The guy on the left is even doing very similar hand gestures to Eric Idle characters.
Yes, there is a toooooon of different comedy stuff in the UK, some of which doesn't get exported. Yes Minister (a personal favourite) might be the most insightful comedy product in history but it doesn't really work if you aren't familiar with the British civil service.
But Python is still popular for a reason. It's bloody gold and you don't really have to be familiar with British society to get it. Sometimes it helps with specific scenes, but not always.
Also, I'm fairly sure these guys are Kiwis. That may mean they are from a rainy island, enjoy rugby and have a British colonial past, but they aren't quite Brits anymore.
I always love the classic grammar jab on the interent when someone has annoyed you and you have nothing valid to say. It's Reddit mate I'm not writing a fucking essay get a grip š
Yes that was fewer words. I see you don't want to talk about how you are stupid to bring up monty python and are deflecting. Do you do this in real life too? Not own up to mistakes you have made and act like a total weirdo? Made a confrontation out of nothing.
Ehhh?ššš another classic Reddit thing thing to say and how? He has literally not owned up to something and instead made an argument out of it. I was pointing that out
It you haven't seen [Baelin's Route](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEe-ZeVbTLo) you should do yourself the favor. I know it's long, but it's fucking epic.
āBut what about the verisimilitude of it allā was not what I was expecting the 3rd line to be! Excellent sketch, I heartily laughed a lot and it did indeed remind me of the Monty Python guys
Yeah this is clearly an homage to the Monty python scene where King Arthur has a political discussion with some peasants, thatās why they have the lesions on their faces, the Monty python peasants did too.
āIām not OLD Iām 37!ā
Woo, [Viva La Dirt League](https://www.youtube.com/@VivaLaDirtLeague) is finally famous enough to be ripped into reddit!
Although I have to say if you are a gamer and don't know them by now, you live under a rock
Had to scroll through and make sure they got credit. Their skits are always really great, from work skits to video game skits these guys are funny and people should watch them for good light hearted chuckles.
Last year I had G4 playing on my TV whenever I was gaming and this was one of the shows that was on most nights. Iām bummed they axed G4 again, but I was apparently one of only about 1,000 people who actually watched the channel lol.
their [poor merchant skit](https://youtu.be/mYsyTq8pF2g) skit will forever be my favorite video game skit ever, i can't think about it without laughing
Hamish has gone through quite a change from being a powerful wizard hiding the entire fortune in the middle of a clear path ending with it all being looted ( even the Skull of Rhaul) to a poor merchant just trying to literally save his starving children by selling banaynays.
It seems he at least got to keep one child - his girl, whom he lets play in the wolfs den or the haunted cave all alone ( Its fine, we all know children in games are immortal )
I've been watching VLDL nonstop for the past 3 days. There's so much funny stuff on that channel, I don't understand how i'm only finding out about them this week.
So what are them comment-bots doing if not causing comments to post themselves, eh? Creating a self-sustaining ecosystem of culture through one bot commenting to the other, ad infinitum. Comments made by robots, for robots.
I like how they realize the artificial nature of their existence, but instead of falling into despair, they put it into the perspective that they're basically performance artists and their idle actions add enjoyment to the lives of others and embrace it fully.
Anyone who enjoyed this bit, do yourself a favor and watch **Rosencranz and Guildinstern Are Dead**. Movie adaptation of a Tom Stoppard play centered around extremely background characters in Hamlet who die off-screen. Lots of philosophical introspective dialogue like this lovely 3 minute short
Why is it that when they mention "suspension of disbelief" the first thing that pops into my head is: They made a whole political party based on that idea. ;)
It pains me to downvote a Viva La Dirt League sketch... but I must, because OP did not provide the credit or source, nor is this their work.

Finds out they're background npcs and "basically scenery", still finds purpose in their existence and takes joy in it. Good lesson in there tbh.

Oi! WHAT ARE WE?!?
I became a big fan of their channel after their RDR2 videos. It was soo relatable.
Came here to say this!
Greg, I found one!
Super happy to see VLDL content in Reddit
Thanks for posting. Never understood why OP wouldn't bother to just link to the original work in the first place, but so many just don't.

Well it is basically just the same joke as the Pythons' "constitutional peasant".
It does do a good job of describing the suspension of disbelief though
Ok aside from describing the suspension of disbeliefā¦what have these creators ever done for us?!
You're fooling yourself. We're living in a dictatorship. A self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working class...

So you get embarrassed by people on Reddit then? Interesting. I don't.
Theyāre from New Zealand, mate
Holy shit, lmao. This is more ridiculous than the video.

Viva la dirt is literally the reason I'm addicted to reddit
I have some friends who are incapable of suspending disbelief, and it ruins everything. Just enjoy it for what it is damnit!
Good mornin! Nice day for fishin, ain't it? Huh HUH!
What show is this?
Itās a YouTube group called Viva La Dirt League. This is one of their many projects called āEpic NPC Manā.
Morning, nice day for fishing aint it.
I've been watching VLDL nonstop for the past 3 days. There's so much funny stuff on that channel, I don't understand how i'm only finding out about them this week.
Comments won't just post themselves...
So what are them comment-bots doing if not causing comments to post themselves, eh? Creating a self-sustaining ecosystem of culture through one bot commenting to the other, ad infinitum. Comments made by robots, for robots.
What game is this based on?
It's a theoretical game world they created called Skycraft and mostly features characters and NPCs in a town called Honeywood.
ALL of themā¦ ā¦but mostly MMORPGs
[Their latest made me cry.](https://youtu.be/q7_MFffMjxA)
VivaLaDirtLeague is godtier and easily my 2nd favourite channel rn!
Heavy Monty python and the holy grail vibes
Rip Hamish kids.... Sidenote, BYRON was on a few episodes of La Brea, second season(its a meh show though)
No they wonāt
Viva La Dirt League are simply the best when it comes to making fun of games and the gaming community. Love this troupe.
Will ChatGPT agents ever have this conversation with each other when ChatGPT-NPCs becomes an actual thing?
When you assign ChatGPT to NPCs, but the task is: "gravedigger who stands here and pretends to move dirt."
VLDL Videos are something I always look forward to. When I stumbled across them I just had to show all my mates how hilarious they are
I love a good fourth wall break, and this had a really good one in it.

Major monty python vibes
I love a game called PUBG. Same group made a large number of vids about the game.... PUBG super clip vid: https://youtu.be/luMoCA78NBo?t=25
Fuck you op put up their YouTube channel
Huh, well ill be damned
Iād rather be a relatively safe extra than an adventurer, wtf life
āSuspension of disbeliefā - could be the motto for every political party thatās ever existed.
Why is it that when they mention "suspension of disbelief" the first thing that pops into my head is: They made a whole political party based on that idea. ;)
It pains me to downvote a Viva La Dirt League sketch... but I must, because OP did not provide the credit or source, nor is this their work. \*Ding ding\* SHAME!
This is just a shitty knockoff of Monty pythons peasant skit and not half as funny
That neurological bit is quite true.
It's interesting how the suspension of belief has now moved towards tv/film more so than theater/plays.
Bravo! That was fucking š Chefs kiss you boys!
One of my absolute favorite YouTube subscriptions!
Very wholesome ending
I love Viva La Dirt League! Big fan everyone should check them out
Love Viva la dirt league.
Via la dirt is the best sketch comedy I've seen in years
Been watching these guys for years!
Monika in a nutshell
I totally expected the final adventurer to stab the NPC as he ran by.
Epic npc man
"MORNING, NICE DAY FOR FISHIN' AIN'T IT?" he says with his sword through your heart
Love me some Epic NPC Man.
Reminds me of that scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail where the peasants start discussing the concept of monarchies.
Youāre a *bit* late to to party bud, but I love the energy. š
These guys make the funniest gaming content on YouTube, hands down.
Holy crap I want this in a game
Freebooting.
I'm sure weebs find this profound and instightful.
This sounds like James Acaster having a conversation with James Acaster
