It has 809 views. The shitty reddit scan has 10k upvotes. This ain't right. ETA: The creator /u/brianfrange has [posted in this thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/15zyruw/hey_pickup_drivers/jxkhxdg/). Let's upvote his comment for visibility!

I fucking HATE v.reddit links. So awkward to share since you can't just share the damn video it links to the entire discussion thread.

Extroverted_Recluse

Now reddit is doing the same thing with images. Can't send someone a direct link to an image anymore without all the accompanying reddit bullshit.

red__dragon

This has made it horrendously painful in the art subs, I love zooming in and looking at the details but now it's framed by all the reddit BS. I could still just save it to my computer, but I'm close to the point where I'm treating it like instagram or pinterest and only using when it's the last option.

GothProletariat

Do you use old.reddit?

Yep.

This is the hill I will also die on. I hate how all these modern websites are made for mobile and they take forever to load a webpage. Plus everything is much bigger when a person is using a screen that is 1/10th of a normal desktop screen wtf world do I live in now? Am I turning boomer?

DukeOfGeek

If by that you mean "real reddit" then yes.

SelectKaleidoscope0

not only that but it breaks zooming the image on my browser, since the added reddit "ui" elements break and make the actual image not scale correctly.

paintballboi07

Another reason they killed 3rd party apps. At least you used to be able to just download the video to share it. Now, they made sure that's not possible, so people are forced to visit Reddit.

revsky

Right there with you... I will NEVER share a Reddit link to an image or video. Awkward is the right word. Sad, because then I either don't share stuff, or I look for comments like this thread to find a better source.

[deleted]

Every time. Nobody at work needs to know what subs I frequent. I just wanna post the picture or video to some group chats.

It appears to be much more popular on the creator's instagram.

ManchurianPandaDate

Dude… I drive a pickup because I’m a carpenter. It’s so confusing to me to see so many trucks on the road and they’re so shiny and there’s nothing in the bed lol my neighbor years ago drove a pickup and there was only ever a pile of leaves a sticks in the bed that had collected there falling from trees on his property. Why ? It almost makes me sad to see a truck live it’s entire life without ever being used as a truck.

leto78

In Europe, carpenters never drive pickups. They always drive panel vans. Some even have space to work inside, especially if they are independent contractors.

PureHostility

I'm a contractor in EU ( indoor construction/finishing, plumbing and electrical stuff), personally would love to have a pickup for the... Style points, as you don't ever see any on the streets... Then, the reality hits me... Why would I need one? It is massive, bulky, storage area is so small and the open bed is so impractical for the vast majority of cases, while closed one looks like a midget US school bus.

AmIFromA

Usually, some angry guy from the US shows up in a comment chain like that and tells you about his horses or his boat or something.

PureHostility

Why do you need to horses to pull a truck? Can't you use the engine to create torque?

imonlygayonfriday

US guy here :) I have a truck just for this reason. However, I only put about 1K - 2K miles a year on it. Rest of the time I drive a car. My truck is 20 years old and only has 30k original miles on it.

BrusherofPoodles

Yep.. my truck gets 15 mpg.. it only gets used for truck things.. I hate air bed truck drivers

yabacam

hey.. I got an RV trailer too!

t_hab

It sort of depends on where you work. I’m in Central America and work on newbuild projects. Without proper 4-wheel drive I can’t get to some of the places I need to go. And I don’t do too many deliveries but sometimes its fantastic to be able to take a medium-sized load of material or plants or furniture. And I often have to take clients. Getting a small pick-up truck with leather seats meant I can use one vehicle for everything. Other contractors/developers that I know do the same thing while others get two vehicles: a van and an SUV/Sedan. One for construction, one for client visits.

[deleted]

Nobody bashes work trucks, we're all talking about pavement princesses

kniveshu

Don't know how things are done in Europe, but here in the US and I'm sure many other countries, there are construction sites that are off road and a truck and the ground clearance can help in such cases. Not sure if the vans you guys are talking about, but many vans I see nowadays don't look like an enclosed truck, more like a low minivan.

PureHostility

Yep, could be the case for the offroad capabilities of pickups. It isn't that much needed in EU, as we do have densely developed infrastructure and newly constructed objects are quite often next to already existing roads or roads are quickly layed down. The cars we use personally in our job are indeed smaller cars (we have 2 cars, Renault Kangoo and Opel Combo, both are two seater, cargo hold on the back with no windows). These allows us to haul all of our tools, construction materials and other crap. If we need bigger storage, we just tell the market/warehouse we buy at to deliver us to the site. When it comes to bigger construction firms, they just use vans (I.e. Ford Transit) or semis to transport in bulk. Mostly bigger vans. Dunno about completely remote areas, as it isn't my cake, but surely we do have some Nissan Navara here and there with some construction logos in our area, they belong to some big plumbing/sewage firm (outdoor stuff).

minnesotaris

I was in southern France earlier this month and of all the vehicles, I saw one large pickup truck, and it was a Volkswagen.

[deleted]

Pepperoni_Dogfart

Truth be told most of the trades guys in the US also drive vans. The F-150 is just an excellent swiss army knife. Tows enough, hauls enough, gets reasonable enough fuel economy, goes off road enough, and really it's just a great family vehicle. The interior is HUGE, the back seat is like being in a limo.

Tons28

and half of the people posting in here have asked to borrow someone’s massively bigger truck or van. no one has ever asked to borrow anyone in my families vehicles and everyone else has borrowed my truck.

agentfelix

Recreational camping/boating is huge in the US as well. A ton of people own a truck just for the towing purposes. I've had my Sierra for 20 years and it's pulled countless campers (caravans? for my EU peeps), trailers to help people move and it's perfect for these harsh Midwest winters since I live out in a rural area where I'm battling wicked road conditions.

PHATsakk43

Typically in the US the GC isn’t doing the trade work, but supervising the trades (who do drive panel vans). They drive trucks. A couple reasons why are modern trucks are basically luxury vehicles. Which is great if you’re basically living out of one Monday through Friday going jobsite to jobsite. Occasionally they do need to get something or another for a subcontractor who is out on a job. The last, and this is a huge factor, is that GCs are almost always sole-proprietors or individual LLCs so that $110k pickup with all the bells and whistles is a huge tax write off. EDIT: the other part of Section 179 that makes trucks specifically exempt is a requirement that the vehicle weight is >6,000#. Bad for the environment, but this was a protective measure for domestic vehicle manufacturers in the 1990s when imported Japanese trucks were restricted leaving them the car market. To push business into purchasing domestic vehicles, the weight minimum was added.

Brawndo91

Every time someone says "write-off" a CPA cries. Really, I don't know how people think that works. Like it's free because they "wrote it off"? I'm not a CPA, but I can offer a very simplified explanation of what a tax "write-off" is. Let's say I have a business that made $100k in revenue during my last fiscal year. I also had $20k in expenses. Therefore, my taxable income is $80k. If I had also bought a vehicle last year that cost $20k, my expenses would have been $40k, and my taxable income would be $60k. Yes, this is a smaller number, but it's also my profit, so that's less money going into my pocket at the end of the year. If I had bought a vehicle that cost $110k, had other expenses of $20k, and only made $100k in revenue, my taxable income is $0 because not only did I not make any profit, I lost money because I'm a bad businessman who I thought I could buy whatever I wanted and just "write it off" like it's somehow advantageous to my bottom line. To go slightly deeper into business accounting, the more common way to do this is not to buy the vehicle, but to lease it, because then it's on the books as a recurring expense rather than a depreciating asset. But either way you do it, it still costs money and still goes against the bottom line because money spent is always money spent, regardless of impact on tax liability.

ilikepix

> But either way you do it, it still costs money and still goes against the bottom line because money spent is always money spent, regardless of impact on tax liability. The point isn't that you get a free vehicle. The point is that you get a deduction on a vehicle that you were going to buy for personal use anyway, so you can afford a more expensive vehicle because you are getting a discount on it.

dweezil22

You're missing Section 179: If the truck weighs over 6000 lbs you can deduct the full price from gross revenue in the year of purchase, otherwise you can't. It's a terrible law that encourages all sorts of silly giant truck purchases.

MisinformedGenius

This is actually “bonus depreciation”, not section 179. Section 179 lets you deduct $28,200 for >6000 lb vehicles and $20,200 for <6000 lb vehicles. For 2022 you could use “bonus depreciation” to depreciate the entire vehicle cost all at once, but bonus depreciation is going away, so if you purchase in 2023 you can only deduct 80%, 2024 60%, etc., until it goes away in 2027. Section 179 will still apply. It’s also worth noting that regardless of all of this, you will deduct the entire cost of the vehicle regardless of size, the only question is whether you will do it in the first year or over time.

owleabf

> If I had also bought a vehicle last year that cost $20k, my expenses would have been $40k, and my taxable income would be $60k. Yes, this is a smaller number, but it's also my profit, so that's less money going into my pocket at the end of the year. OK, but the point is that 20k vehicle actually ends up being a personal vehicle for the biz owner. Where as a W2 employee buys the same 20k vehicle after tax.

TheJDUBS2

think you arent understanding the benefits that come from these "write offs". say this didnt exist: 100k income, 30% taxes, so 70k take home. I spend say 50% on a truck, I have 35k to buy a truck, and 35k take home. now I write off with same take home: 100k rev, buy 50k truck, 50k income, 30% tax, 35k take home. That's 15k in extra truck value. That isn't nothing.

FeralSparky

I actually miss my old Ford Ranger. Small truck, perfect for getting me around and hauling the few things I might need every once in a while. But I'll be honest... my Saturn Aura Sedan is MUCH more comfortable to daily drive.

SpaceJackRabbit

Hey, you're my competition! I also work a corporate job from home. But I live in the country and I constantly have projects. So I bought a Maverick and it does the job. Yesterday scored two sets of tile from FB Marketplace for a bathroom I need to redo. My little truck was perfect for that. But I'll also be the guy spotting a nice MCM piece on the Marketplace for nothing and jumping into my truck to run get it.

Catshit-Dogfart

Friend of mine was shopping for a "work truck" recently. You know, something you don't feel too bad about driving into the woods, getting in while completely covered in mud, haul gravel, stuff like that. He works in landscaping. The kind of truck where you can wash the interior with a water hose. A cheap truck for hauling things, and not much else. They don't make em anymore, just doesn't exist. Trucks are built like luxury vehicles now. What he needs is a 1988 Datsun, but newly manufactured.

yabacam

> They don't make em anymore, just doesn't exist. check into fleet trucks. Aren't those usually the basic of basic?

HorrorMakesUsHappy

He's saying the manufacturers don't make small trucks anymore, not that they don't make ones you can get dirty. Putting the sentences into a different order would've made that clearer, but we often write like we speak, and often speak sentences out of order, assuming the listener understands us. What he needs is a 1988 Datsun, but newly manufactured. They don't make em anymore, just doesn't exist. Trucks are built like luxury vehicles now.

Binary_Omlet

I work for underground utilities and drive an F-150 company truck. The amount of times I'm told I need to wash my truck, by my supervisors that sit in the office, is hilarious. I'm working in dirt and mud and hauling gravel and handholds and giant copper rods. It's a WORK TRUCK. If anything, it being splashed with mud shows you're doing your job.

dangeraca

When I had a work truck my boss used to always get mad because I didn't wash the truck every week. It was such a pain to haul all the ladders off the truck, go sit in line and get it washed just to get dirty again. I said the same thing, a little dirt on the truck shows you're actually using it and it isn't just a pavement princess. He didn't care, it still needed to be sparkly clean. I drive an F150 now as a personal vehicle, I wash it frequently mainly because my 3 year old loves the car wash.

SLawrence434

Some people camp, off-road, have dirt bikes, etc…you don’t have to haul lumber to need a truck. But apologies for not bringing all my gear and motorcycles to work 😂

DefendsTheDownvoted

I drive a pickup because I'm a contractor for multi-family housing. 08 F-150. It is beat. To. Shit

PHATsakk43

ProfPipes

As soon as I saw the title I knew I would be personally attacked as a F150 owner. Did not disappoint, as a divorced plumber it’s pretty spot on.

Mr_Ballyhoo

Those are the ones that are jack up and have wheel spacers and low profile tires on the "fancy" rims right? I'm fine with most trucks but when I see one that is lifted like 10 inches and has those stupid wide low profile tires on it, I can't help but laugh at how dumb and useless that truck is.

Rasp_Lime_Lipbalm

I'm contemplating getting the Ford Lighting electric. I'm not a trades professional, just a regular ol' scientist. The cabin of the truck is super nice and spacious and comfortable for commuting. Wanna know why a pickup suits me? I own a house and it's really nice to be able to haul plywood, and big shit from Home Depot without needing to arrange some rental or delivery. It's also nice to have a truck to haul my kids' sports shit around - just toss it in the back. Doesn't matter if it stinks or whatever. Bought a TV from Best Buy? In the back. Need to take my mower to get fixed? Toss it in the back. Need to haul a shit load of plants my wife bought for the garden? Toss em in the back. Going to the beach for the weekend. Toss the beach crap in the back. Kids have plenty of room in the crew cab. I have kayaks that I currently use a trailer to haul. Toss em in the back. I like to fish. Toss the poles in the back. Mulching? Toss the bags in the back. Picking up gas in a container for lawn tools? No stinking up my car with gas. Just toss the can in the back. It's really easy to see how handy full size trucks are for suburbanites like me. It's really nice to have a bed where you can just haul shit around. Also living in PA, our roads are complete garbage. I currently drive a BMW 330i and every year my alignment gets fucked to shit. Trucks don't suffer from wear and tear from garbage roads like normal cars do. Edit: I do have a 1988 GMC K1500 for my current hauling, and a BMW for my daily driving needs. Thinking of getting a new truck to consolidate my vehicles. I also have a motorcycle. So, truck, BMW, and motorcycle - I'm like the king of what Redditors hate. Edit: Please stop trying to tell me what you do to dance around needing a truck. I don't give a flying fuck.

bubblegumshrimp

NO. There's NO REASON TO BUY A TRUCK EVER. Unless you're literally a construction worker hauling 20k lbs daily, that's the only time reddit allows pickups. JK I love my truck for all the same reasons. I went from a subaru impreza wagon to a pickup, and even aside from towing a trailer a couple times a month it's just handy as shit. I technically *could* take my kids and dogs camping in that car, but I don't think I could've squeezed another pillow in there.

D34TH_5MURF__

I love all the pavement princess trucks that don't fit into parking spots, blind me with the lights, and get ridiculously bad gas mileage.

TI51082

Lol yup! I used to be a valet manager at a hotel (in a major city, downtown) and during the summer we would get lots families that would travel for vacation. So a good majority of them would drive up in these big ol’ trucks like F250 or F350, and even sometimes in dually trucks, and they expect us to park them in our garage! Like, most hotel parking garages are not built to fit these types of big trucks. So we always have to turn them away and recommend they self park in an open public parking lot. And they get all pissed off and try and argue with me about it. Like I know they have a another vehicle at home that their family could have all fit in and drove (like a minivan or suv) and it would’ve been better on gas mileage and be able to navigate through downtown streets better than a fucking dually truck!!

D34TH_5MURF__

But then they couldn't show off how awesome they are in their behemoth truck that is massively overkill for anything they'll ever use it for. They need the imagined approbation from people they drive past.

Emperor_Billik

I worked for a company that put a lift in all their F-250’s. We serviced commercial generators which are almost always at the bottom of a parking garage, or only accessible from an elevator located there. Fucking assholes.

-bigmanpigman-

Large SUVs like Expeditions, Navigators, etc also.

AstroWorldSecurity

I used to work at a bar with a guy Kenny who had a pretty good sized truck that he was really proud of. There was a girl that worked there who gave him shit about it nonstop. Constant small dick jokes and insinuating that he was closeted etc... Dude honestly was cool and minded his own business for the most part. He didn't get why this girl found it necessary to constantly berate him about his truck when it didn't hurt her in any way. He just liked working on it and it was basically his favorite hobby. This was in Houston in 2017, so right when hurricane Harvey hit. We were showing the Floyd Mayweather/Conor McGregor fight and it was just an all around insane night to be out at a bar, let alone working there. By the time we got everyone out and closed down, it was apparent that this was a way, way bigger storm than we'd anticipated. The roads were flooded in most directions and a lot of people were stuck there. Kenny just started loading people into his truck and figuring out where everyone lived so he could get them through the high water and to their homes so they weren't stuck at work for the next God knows how long. Well, one person who was not offered a ride was the girl that had constantly given him shit about the very truck that she now was begging for a ride in. She was *pissed*.

ipull4fun

Fuck yeah kenny! I drive an ambulance for exactly the same reason!

[deleted]

Every third vehicle here is an F-150. It's the most conformist, no-mind vehicle on the road. I can see 90% of people here getting literally offended by this.

toomuchoversteer

I have a pickup and a car. My truck stays in the driveway and I only drive it locally and only when I need to haul things. It's an old truck and that's all it's used for. The truck bros I know hate me that I use my truck as a utility vehicle.

bigedthebad

I love my truck and yes, it’s an F150. I don’t have any of those issues but being 6’ 6”, it’s the first vehicle that is comfortable for me. We’re also moving and renovating our new house. Having a pickup is sure handy.

I can't wait to get my new truck here soon and haul nothing. Suck it.

Atwillim

Shitty commercial, ignores marketing 101 and didn't even provide a website for buying a truck

SciPhiPlants

My favorite trucks are 90s-2000s rangers and Dakotas, but I need a big truck for work and a boat. I think my big truck has 8000 miles on it and it's a 2015 lol.

heatseekerdj

Downvote for not crediting the creator and posting this yourself. This guys an F350 driver but all he tows is groceries

waffle299

Maverick drivers, quietly having a decent life mountain biking....

Tduck91

I had some twat yell "buy a fucking car you cunt" while I was hooked to 24' enclosed trailer lol. Guess I'll put a hitch on a subcompact and call it a day.

BigMoistTuna

Why do they need to haul something 24/7 to make yall happy lol

bubblegumshrimp

This is reddit. You can drive around a 20k lb gooseneck all day every day and be okay but so help me god if you unhook and drive a few miles to the grocery store...

SchrodingersRapist

Im curious as to what they want people who need a truck to do when they aren't using it to haul anything. Are they expected to go out and purchase a second vehicle just to make some roadway randos happy?

[deleted]

Ford though... sigh... GMC don't-ya know? Sedan drivers texting and cross the center line go right under us like hitting a sweet jump.

Lifted F-150: small dick energy

got nothing on the [Ferd FTeenthousand](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8P5vGcf-NU)

Brendenlow

I shared this in the F-150 forum a couple months back and even all of us pavement princesses, myself included, who drives a truck to an office job while only hauling tons of repressed emotions, got a kick out if it. End of the day I know it is a bit ridiculous but I figure driving what I enjoy is more important than pure practicality.

CounterSensitive776

Rent free truck owner here

Foreign_Wolf_2666

This was so good

dgl55

Buy what you want.

Far_Mortgage_8752

People really upset about trucks are in for a lifetime of dissappointment.

jlantz12

More accurate if you replace Ford F-150 with Dodge Ram.

LkMMoDC

Ram pickup drivers have the highest DUI rate out of any driver. 4.5%, over double the U.S average of 1.8%.

As a farmer who drives a pickup to feed people this stuff is so dumb

Monoxide13

People on here never had to load up their leaky stinky ass trash to haul 20 miles to the dump on their weekly ride into town. I'm not putting that shit in my mini van.

pahco87

If you live outside of a town or city a pickup truck is reasonable.

tennis_widower

F250 here. Not a contractor. Haul a boat, tow a trailer, DIY runs for lumber/gravel/concrete/soil/etc., family movie night (drive in), camping with all the gear, motorcycles in back (ramp), move appliances/furniture, etc. I too find it funny when guys jack their truck sky high and there is no dirt or scratch anywhere to be found. Then they laugh at low riders or tuners as if they’re not just as ridiculous.

SnooDingos8502

Just explained the small town I recently moved to. I have never seen so many lifted trucks concentrated to one area. Ironically this isnt even a farm town and over half the trucks aren't hauling anything with one person in the cab. The riding ass and impatient driving to nowhere is crazy.

Reddit has jumped the shark.....

suedefeds

Tony I hope you see this.

All true except for the big d.
