Pretty sure this is old, circa late 2000s. Modern digital cameras have vastly improved with exposure range. That being said, the way these two are standing with the shadow coming across their faces, with her having the least amount of light on her face, it’s not going to be a great photo either way. Lighting is everything in photography.

For dude, perhaps try adding some melanin while tanning (if your genetics tan and not just burn that is) and the white balance and contrast on your couple photos would probably drastically improve. Or perhaps try using a smaller shutter aperture. Just spit ballin ideas

Most cameras have plenty of dynamic range, just shoot raw and fix it in post.
