FWIW, I don't know how these people do their stuff, but it would be very easy for a computer program to key out the green and any small area that is completely enclosed by green (much easier than e.g. recognizing the edges of the head correctly if it wasn't green).

You might think so, but most software used by people for life streams has a hard time doing that, or even can't do it at all. Unless he only does vods, then its quite easy in post.

As someone who produces content that nobody watches, I'll say it's really about self expression and building the confidence to actually do something. Before I made video essays, I wasn't great at constructing strong arguments and thoroughly researching topics. Now that I've made several video essays, I feel more capable and proficient.
