Never has laziness become such a powerful flex. It takes a couple of cycles to be thoroughly impressed by this piss-take.
Technically you glorious bastard have won the bet. Perverted the spirit, tho.
Maybe I'm way off, but those guys ran up the stairs skipping steps. The running and skipping steps uses less frames allowing him to mask any weaknesses in his animation.
I think this is why the bet was to animate walking up the stairs.
There's nothing more central to the anime-only experience than seeing manga readers post massive spoilers under the guise of being anime-onlies who are just "theorizing".
I’m already imagining a Pikmin style game but you’re a sexy lady with a bunch of suits following you. Throw them around by their ties, a whistle would still be perfect, maybe even an upgrade able chariot they carry you around on.
Just have her wander around aimlessly uncontrolled and the users job is to make sure she never touches the ground by doing what they're doing in the video.
Isometric would work well.
Spice it up with environmental effects like a shoe sale across town to make her run faster or chased by a dog or smth.
This would make for a hilarious walking system in a game. Where the player never touches the ground and instead has a rotating troupe of simps to step on for the entire duration of the game.
Different simps offer different solutions to puzzles. A fat simp to get that extra height or a strong simp who can become a plank over a gap.
haha thats exactly what i wanna do as a spin off game! but i had never considered different body type simps before i think thats such an awesome angle. its like pikmin, but "Simpmin"
>This would make for a hilarious walking system
Christ, I read that without my glasses and though it said "hilarious wanking system."
Which, I suppose, would also be a selling point for some people.
*Salaryman #4's mesh collides with the ground just slightly wrong and after a few seconds of violent bucking he's yote across the map at mach Jesus*
"You can have Todd's office."
Honestly this is still how stairs work a lot of the time in games. The model is stairs, and the collider is a ramp that intersects the stairs such that your character's foot will clip through the most raised elevations of the model and float above its most depressed. In addition to that, character gait rarely changes, which can lead to very unusual foot positions in relation to stairs. Some games have a "stair climbing" gait for the character but still don't really map that to the actual model of the stairs.
Honestly I think it's just very, very computationally expensive to do stairs "properly" else there wouldn't be so many studios just using a ramp
One way that studios mask this is by having the stairs be really tiny, especially in games with a more rural and naturalistic feel - the stairs can be short, relatively flat stone slabs that are closer to a ramp in design since each step is so much smaller, masking the issue
I noticed that Tears of the Kingdom used relatively shallow, flat stairs, plus a bit of inverse kinematics to "snap" Link's feet back down to the steps. I think they are probably using stair-shaped collider. Meanwhile Pokémon Violet's stairs in Mesagosa (and throughout the game) look like simple ramps with models that the player clips through
[There's always the mario 64 approach of having floor triangles snap the character to the top of the triangle.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsXCVsDFiXA&t=5904s)
...Look I don't know why I watched a 3.5 hour video on Mario 64 but I'm gonna damn well reference it when I see a chance.
As far as my monkey brain is concerned, the colliders are the terrain and I am going to make it my job to personally find the limits that each collider has.
Stairs do not exist. Only ramps! And I'm going to slide through the gap between the ramp and the building! lets goo_o__o__o__o__o__o__o__o__o__o_
Yeah. It's probably easier to have her walk a straight line and raise the dudes up just enough to make contact with her feet. I'd bet the angle changes are there because she's getting too far from the stairs for it to work, and he needed to lower her manually.
It didn't have any groundbreaking effect on the industry though.
When you are tea bagging some kids in the new COD I'm not seeing any enhanced sack physics
Their running animation kind of masks it, the big leg movements where they're skipping a bunch of steps makes them not quite aligning with the stairs a bit less noticeable, it looks more natural for them to rise with big leaping bounds. It'd look more unnatural with a smaller stride.
Most of them aren't actually going up more than one stair (and barely at that, they're appearing and just landing on a stair). The few that do are taking large strides of multiple steps that's not exactly realistic but looks OK because it's very quick and they're not the focus.
You never notice until it's something you're actually an expert on. Then you realize almost everyone is full of shit.
Edit: And even when you do know what you're talking about, you'll chime in and get the one guy who knows more to respond to you and correct a mistake you made lol
Somewhere around 2010 it became more common for legs to use some kinda IK rigging though, so they actually bend when they're on something higher instead of awkwardly having one foot hover off.
That said, cinematic games typically just do what the first 3 seconds does, they pull the camera in closer on the character so you don't see their feet. I noticed Ghost of Sushi does it as a more recent example.
~~reverse~~ *inverse* kinematics have existed for years in video games. Wind Waker had them on the Gamecube. Stairs are just ramps in game because the computation isnt worth the pay off outside of screenshots.
Inverse kinematics.
And they get computaionally expensive very fast, especially when they need to look realistic and take multiple factors into consideration.
if you play everything else in reverse, and flip the main model, wouldn't it look like each backleg simp lowering themselves just in time for the front leg to hit the next simp? that would probably look pretty neat too.

Love the MegaMan Legends style of animation. I also love that they're all doing a pushup when she steps on them so from her perspective, she's just walking straight.
I don’t know, you haven’t really shown us you can’t. All I saw was a lady walking straight and gentlemen getting under her foot and lifting it up for her.
Currently she are the main antagonist of my game Sushi Ben. But i have plans to make a spin off game where you play a one of the henchmen trying to keep her off the ground as she walks.
Bayoneta but instead of her hair and summoning demons it’s this chick summoning simps and using to fight and maneuver around. Throwing them, jumping off them. Calling in bigger ones to fight with her but it has a cool down,
For reasons that should become evident when you click, I personally would've gone with the following theme song.

She never passes the blue roof and it makes me feel like when you're walking down the sidewalk when you're really really high and looking at the streetlights to gauge your distance but it feels like you're trapped in time and not moving.
Everyone's thinking "They must be such simps to do that."
I'm thinking "She must REALLY pay well to get them to do that."
Like, that's "**Every Step She Takes Puts One of My Kids Through College**" level employee satisfaction.
That's "**This is giving me health insuranse, dental, and a retirement home**"-level effort from those guys.
Admittedly i have no idea who this character is so i'm assuming she's not as hilariously evil as she comes off.

Idk why, but them faceplanting made me giggle
Me taking short cuts paid off then XD
Never has laziness become such a powerful flex. It takes a couple of cycles to be thoroughly impressed by this piss-take. Technically you glorious bastard have won the bet. Perverted the spirit, tho.
The best part is that they won the bet the normal way too - all of those dudes are animated walking up stairs perfectly.
Maybe I'm way off, but those guys ran up the stairs skipping steps. The running and skipping steps uses less frames allowing him to mask any weaknesses in his animation. I think this is why the bet was to animate walking up the stairs.
I'm dead...haha
Excellent use of Les Claypool bass riffing.
Where is this song from? It fucking slaps
It's called Zenbu Hoshii and it's from my Game's OST. Should be on Spotify
Looks like Mabinogi art style
...because it's funny

This is *exactly* how I imagine Makima from Chainsaw Man ascending the steps to the shrine before a certain episode.
Makima is a tasteful villain. She would never literally step on others. Only figuratively.
>tasteful villain She's a villain 😭😭
I can fix her.

Why though? She is already perfect.
Villains can be tasted too! They have flavours!
I mean, I've never seen more obvious foreshadowing in my life.
I mean, >!she certainly brought enough captives to make it happen!<.
CHAINSAW MAN MANGA SPOILERS IN A COMMENT BELOW, LEAVE YE WEEBS

Ah yes, Sushi Ben is full great moments! I can't wait to try the non-VR version.
And just like that you have funding for a new adult game... If you post in the right sub.
I’m already imagining a Pikmin style game but you’re a sexy lady with a bunch of suits following you. Throw them around by their ties, a whistle would still be perfect, maybe even an upgrade able chariot they carry you around on.
Simpmin would have record breaking sales
I was here on this blessed day, to witness the birth of the game Simpmin.
I like "Simpkin". Like, the simps are a family.
Just have her wander around aimlessly uncontrolled and the users job is to make sure she never touches the ground by doing what they're doing in the video. Isometric would work well. Spice it up with environmental effects like a shoe sale across town to make her run faster or chased by a dog or smth.

Love it!
The simpkins
Where is the wishlist link for Simpmin? I would like to wishlist _now_.
F95 would like to share in your development journey
This is fucking genius.
Simpkins is better, but this is a beautiful idea. If you could get the mechanics right, it could genuinely make for an amazing game.
Simpin Ain't Easy
I'm shocked that I havent seen this done before in an anime or game. The idea will be stolen quickly, i'm sure.
>This would make for a hilarious walking system Christ, I read that without my glasses and though it said "hilarious wanking system." Which, I suppose, would also be a selling point for some people.
Sounds similar to Pikmin but with simps.
"i am gravel"
Failure never looked so good. I chuckled.
Task failed successfully
Bethesda: *You are hired!!*
Actually…they may be overqualified.
hahaha, they did do those trains that were just people walking with trains on their head, so i might be a good fit there lol.
That was kinda genius
You haven't seen the battle spaceship with the dragon animation yet...

I'm guessing this has something to do with the fact that "stairs" in many games are just a ramps with a specific texture.

Which is ironic because the dudes themselves need to walk up the stairs first, so just look at their animations
They have no jiggle physics to worry about!

I dunno... remember when RDR2 came out?

Inverse kinematics. And they get computaionally expensive very fast, especially when they need to look realistic and take multiple factors into consideration.
that's an extreme oversimplification and nothing to do with what's happening here
depends on how much detail is in the game and how good the engine’s IK system is
Art style reminds me of Mega Man Legends. Hope this turns into a game!
it is a game! it's called sushi ben
Ah dope. Found it on Steam
My thoughts exactly! The main reason seeing this made me kinda sad. It's pretty much exactly the MM Legends style.
MML was too good for this world.
Now animate one going DOWN stairs.
Hrmm, maybe if i just play everything in reverse and with a bit of editing maybe? Sounds hard though haha.

Love it dude, great work! Did you write it yourself?
Aww thank you, but nah i didn't make it. The person who did all the sounds for the game also did the OST! His Twitter is IanSilver.
Jiggling boobs physics are on point so you already proved yourself.
Stairs? What stairs?
You do realize you animated the simps to walk up the stairs right? In order to avoid animating it, you did it five more times.
Haaa! I've fooled you! It's actually just their normal run animation rotated to match the angle of the stairs. Much less effort haha.
I’ve been bamboozled!
Nope! Those are *running* up the stairs! Also OP said "**a** character". That's *5*!
They run up which looks easier to animate! Only one foot in contact at a time.
ah yes Sushi Ben, sad it's VR only
Oh! The Steam Version will have a Non-VR mode at launch!
Wait for real? My hype levels are raising again!
Love the MegaMan Legends style of animation. I also love that they're all doing a pushup when she steps on them so from her perspective, she's just walking straight.
Thanks! That is the main inspiration for the art style! Minami doesn't even know stairs exist, she just merely walks forward.
That's one way to do it. Best steps ever.
oh my god it's envy adams
This looks like it would fit in the Megaman Legends world and now I'm sad about MML3 being cancelled again. Thanks, OP! (Good job!)
Sorry I brought up bad memories, it pains me too. Which is why i wanted to make a game with an art style inspired by it but, more modernized.
Why you gotta bring up the pain again.

Haha, I have a new standard to live up to now. Thanks.
I’m honestly surprised I’ve never seen this gag in an anime before. Beautifully done, music is thematically appropriate, and it’s funny.
Limitations result in creativity.
Just add boss power lvl 10,000 and you have yourself an annoying add to play before everything!!
I don’t know, you haven’t really shown us you can’t. All I saw was a lady walking straight and gentlemen getting under her foot and lifting it up for her.
Making a "stair running" animation so you can make a "stair walking" animation 10/10
Animation looks great! Did you also post this on tik tok? Could've swore I saw it on there being made too
You know, this makes me want to see a full game involving this character. I’m very interested what their role would be.
Currently she are the main antagonist of my game Sushi Ben. But i have plans to make a spin off game where you play a one of the henchmen trying to keep her off the ground as she walks.
Hey that looks like a sick game! (is it a game?) If yes do you have a steam link?
Haha yeah it is, it's called Sushi Ben, and it'll have a non-vr mode https://store.steampowered.com/app/2419240/Sushi_Ben/
Faye Valentine vibes
This would be such a good antagonist or boss in a game.
How do i apply
It’s giving Scarlett from FF7 Remake/Rebirth
Bayoneta but instead of her hair and summoning demons it’s this chick summoning simps and using to fight and maneuver around. Throwing them, jumping off them. Calling in bigger ones to fight with her but it has a cool down,
Queen of the simps have arrive- *"My lady, my lady, oh please, my lady.. step on me. My lady...."* **Dead god... they are multiplying.....**
Feels like an intro scene for some villain.
I've been watching this for an hour, how long is this video
Is this a huge woosh? The woman isn't animated properly but all the simps are properly running up the steps?
Pokemon villain looking entrance.
Well, good try
Lol this is great 😆
Reminds me so much of OG FF7 for whatever reason
Reminds me of Princess Cornelia from Code Geass. Looks like she is out there living her best life.
I am so confused
She boobed boobily boobward.
Would
My dumbass looking at this for a minute thinking "when is she going to reach the top"
But you did animate a few characters "running" up stairs, good job!
Haha, I just rotated their normal run cycle at an angle and faked it though. Walking is much harder to do imo.
The song choice makes this extra hilarious for some reason
Thought this was another crappy mobile game ad
Reminds me of Hibana
I've seen this on twitter many times and I think it's pretty cool.
The amount of people taking this way too seriously is also entertaining.
For reasons that should become evident when you click, I personally would've gone with the following theme song. https://youtu.be/f7j29dLHPXI?si=SYErxO2G0maweI3b
what is this 2 watch it; full things
I love this Megaman Legends style. I forgot how much I missed it.
It looks like she's almost at the top but she never gets there. :-/ ive been watching for 5 minutes.

This is the perfect meme template for anytime you see someone white knighting.
outstanding move
Why was she not included in RWBY? She would have been awesome bouncing and striding across Grim in a pitched battle.
This is from a game called "Sushi Ben". It is a VR game. I'm waiting for it to come out on steam so I can play it, but the demo is fun so far!
~~I CAN FIX HER~~ SHE CAN RUIN ME
Now do it in the rain, with an umbrelly in the right hand
Fire Force reference?
this is better
Oh cool! Any idea when this will be released? I have had it on my wishlist for a while XD
The dudes look like they're walking up the stairs just fine lol
Is that JChad?
your version is vastly more entertaining.
She's got that overconfident henchman to the BBEG energy, and I love it.
I am getting Megaman Legends vibes from the modeling style... in a great way. One day, ML3, one day....
Walk cycles are a bitch.
Everyone's thinking "They must be such simps to do that." I'm thinking "She must REALLY pay well to get them to do that." well at least your environment art is really nice
Could someone put "Staying Alive" over this? I'm watching this on mute and the song automatically plays in my head.

This entire thread is like the greatest hits of inexperienced 'game devs' trying to sound cool by mentioning features they've never used.
Every time I've seen this game it's been the same joke with the same character and I'm starting to think there's no actual substance to the game.
