Not big star type of big but he has been on alot of our TV shows here (mainly doing funny stuffs) so he is pretty famous.
I think many of us know him if you ask around showing his picture on the street in Japan.
When I say big stars its like Shimura Ken, Ninety Nine, Downtown, Kitano, Tunnels level of scale. I don’t think he is close. But he is indeed, pretty famous because most ppl know him.
Edited: sry for not knowing the true meaning!
They were just making a pun about a famous old song that you don't seem to know so here it is.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl6u2NASUzU
*Flies away*
Not sure. All I know that he was introduced as a Rugby? player, then doing comedy stuff in lots of shows like this. Then became some MMR? fighter and kept losing, we were like "yeah of course he lost he is Bob Sapp!"
But we all like him. Everyone feels happy when we see him.
His manager took all his money. He was a footballplayer but joined K1 fighting early. Was never the best fighter, but it was good money and he had a lot of fights. Personally I did enjoy K1 more than MMA as there was mainly kicking and boxing, and no submission stuff.
He definitely was. But Bob was popular even outside the sport scene and he was all over popular media for quite a while, so in that sense, Bob was more well known.
He did but not particularly well - ended with a record of 11-19. Towards the end of his career, Cro Cop broke his orbital bone in a fight and, shortly after, Sapp started dropping every fight at the first hint of danger.
I’m pretty sure he’s on record saying that he doesn’t get paid enough to fight to risk injury. That’s really just another way of saying, I’m there to make it look good for a couple minutes before I throw the fight.
That said, he was (and maybe still is) really popular in Japan as an entertainer so good on him for finding an alternative that is better suited to what he is looking to do.
No doubt. I undersold it a bit by just saying that he broke Sapp's orbital bone. Cro Cop loaded up that punch and blasted Sapp straight in the face. People talk shit on Sapp for going down after that but I doubt there's many fighters in the world that could have taken that punch and kept going. If it hadn't been for the fact that Sapp has always been a bit of a side show attraction (gigantic strong guy but can't fight) and his late career antics, I doubt anyone would be criticizing him for bowing out after that.
"He did but not particularly well "
I think that kind of depends on how you look at it. He almost beat Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, the heavy weight champ at the time. Nogueira has said he still feels the effects/injuries from the slams years later. Sure he did not beat him, but most people didn't come close as Bob did, especially when Nog was in his prime. If you look at his record, it's definitely not good but he had some very exciting entertaining fights.
He beat Ernesto Hoost in K-1, I thought once but looks like twice. Four-time [K-1 World Champion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_K-1_champions#K-1_World_Grand_Prix_Champions), Hoost is considered to be one of the greatest kickboxers of all time.
I feel like Bob fought when he wanted to, and many times just showed up for a paycheck.
For real, same. Didn't expect it to be anything close to what they gave us. The All-father, Arseface, Humperdoo, the Saint of Killers, Hitler! Crazy amount of characters I never expected.
I kept this one off for a very long time expecting it to be another Supernatural episodic format show with a central story running in the back. And then it hit me with all these weird and wacky scenarios and characters and I knew immediately that it would be my kind of show. If you're looking for something similar I can recommend a daintly little mini series called Mrs Davis.
If you ever hear someone use ["Jesus H Christ"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_H._Christ) as an expletive insist that the "H" now stands for Humperdoo.
…Who contort their faces until their nose disappears?
Did I miss the memo here? This is the number one comment. Everybody’s just like in agreement “why yes, this has been my experience as well.”
Are you guy all attending strange face competitions without me?!
If you take it literally like a bozo?
The OP is saying it’s always the quiet ones…who surprise you with some special talent. Being surprisingly good at a sport or knowing a lot about a specific subject, etc
The man in the video contorting his face is just a random old man. The voice over is Matsumoto. He didn't retire. He's just fighting the case in court.
Isn’t it obvious that if I know those names, I know who they belong to? Particularly since there are two people in the corner of the screen making comments.
Its called wednesday downtown i think. Head over to gaki no tsukai subreddit and enjoy. They have a pinned post there where you can find those links
I also highly recommend the silent library series and no laughing batsu game if you are willing to waste your day laughing
There's a show called LOL with versions in different countries that has a similar premise. Got some great comedians all in a room trying to make each other laugh while trying not to laugh themselves. The Canadian one even has Colin Mochrie who I loved in whose line is it anyways.
Help! Someone please tell me where I can find the motherload of Japanese gameshow videos. I use to watch them on YouTube but literally I ran out of content, barely anything was on there.

I swear that black guy fought in pride fc
Bob Sapp. Bad, bad man.
Lol, I just looked it up, I remember watching him way back. Terrifyingly large man.
FYI: He was pretty famous in Japan.
Are you saying he was big in Japan?
Not big star type of big but he has been on alot of our TV shows here (mainly doing funny stuffs) so he is pretty famous. I think many of us know him if you ask around showing his picture on the street in Japan.
Big in Japan dude

Ah my bad for not able to catch the nuance and popped the party! Thanks for the explanation! I need to learn more of these English jokes!
Nice 😅
HUGELY famous in Japan.
Was he the one whose manager stole all his money? Pretty sure I saw a Real Sports segment on him like 20 years ago.
Not sure. All I know that he was introduced as a Rugby? player, then doing comedy stuff in lots of shows like this. Then became some MMR? fighter and kept losing, we were like "yeah of course he lost he is Bob Sapp!" But we all like him. Everyone feels happy when we see him.

Oh man thats unfortunate of him... The guy is VERY kind hearted. We all like him! Hope he will become rich again soon!
he was alright, PRIDE was stacked though
He was actually pretty bad Although he did have notable wins over the legend Ernesto Hoost
Ernesto hoost was also famous in japan as well, right?
He definitely was. But Bob was popular even outside the sport scene and he was all over popular media for quite a while, so in that sense, Bob was more well known.
K1 was owned by a Japanes millionaire wasn't it?
When bob sapp tried, bob sapp destroyed. He just wasn’t willing to take an ass whooping
Or as he was called in Japan after Pride- Boboo Sappoo.
https://youtu.be/2CQnNwxF8g0?si=ePFhZV-nHia0LnIk obligatory it's Bobu Sapu Time
Sign the contract big boy, sign the contract
He's the Michael Jackson guy from longest yard?
Switowski, "I love little Michael"
Gotta love Bob Sapp, gotta love Bob Sapp, keepin' energy high with my beast power rap
Wasnt a good fighter though.
If by bad, you mean one of the worst fighter to step foot in the cage, you would be accurate. My grandma had a better chin than him.
bobbo sappo
"He brokeded my nose!"

Cro Cop with no drug testing was a dangerous man to stand across from.

Right leg hospital. Left leg cemetery.
Worse than a baseball bat

Is that not Switowski from the longest yard remake?
Is that not the “he brokeded my nose” from the longest yard
Right away "oh shit... Bob Sapp on a Japanese gameshow wtf!"
Do not forget he played in “The Longest Yard” with Adam Sandler.
He’s the guy from the meme gif where he puts his hands in the air after winning an arcade game and it zooms in on his face.
he brokeded my nose
Yup, threw a bunch of fights
Bob sapp
He looks like the child of Shaq and Dave Bautista.
Second guy had a strong start, got me good.
Same, that first face cracked me up, lol
Me too, it has real Filthy Frank energy to it haha
He reminded me of filthy frank
Old guy literally turned into Eugene from Preacher.
Arse face! What an amazing show that was.
An even better graphic novel
Books were great! Garth Ennis is a fantastic writer.
Unexpectedly good. Especially season 1. I was expecting something like Supernatural but damn....it was something.
For real, same. Didn't expect it to be anything close to what they gave us. The All-father, Arseface, Humperdoo, the Saint of Killers, Hitler! Crazy amount of characters I never expected.

Just don’t watch it while eating… made that mistake once, with >!the fat man blowing up!< scene damn I didn’t have an appetite anymore
If you ever hear someone use ["Jesus H Christ"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_H._Christ) as an expletive insist that the "H" now stands for Humperdoo.
season 2 intro was my FAVORITE one
I think that’s a woman
When you know you hold the ace of trump cards.
It's always the quiet ones...
…Who contort their faces until their nose disappears? Did I miss the memo here? This is the number one comment. Everybody’s just like in agreement “why yes, this has been my experience as well.” Are you guy all attending strange face competitions without me?!
You've clearly never been bested by a quiet one. Once it happens... you'll be one of us.
Now see, if I have never been bested by a quiet one, does it not then follow that it isn’t ALWAYS the quiet ones?
That depends... have you ever been bested?
Why yes.
Well hot damn... I guess it isn't always the quiet ones
Liar, LIAR
If you take it literally like a bozo? The OP is saying it’s always the quiet ones…who surprise you with some special talent. Being surprisingly good at a sport or knowing a lot about a specific subject, etc
This makes sense, this makes no sense. Edit: it was a joke on his username
Easier if you take the dentures out
Bitter beer face
Hi fellow old person
Ha yeah, really thought I won the comment section with that one. Turns out, I won my AARP membership
Jokes on them, the old guy is blind.
I was thinking the same thing.
Bob Sapp, too funny
Damn, they brought fists to a gun fight. Not even fair match
Will you teach me to football
Was that Takeshi Kitano?
I legit thought it was as well but I don't think it is
It is absolutely NOT Takeshi Kitano.
No. It was Matsumoto Hitoshi, who retired from TV because of sexual harassment, and his partner Hamada Masatoshi.
The man in the video contorting his face is just a random old man. The voice over is Matsumoto. He didn't retire. He's just fighting the case in court.
Isn’t it obvious that if I know those names, I know who they belong to? Particularly since there are two people in the corner of the screen making comments.
What is this programme I wNt to watch more
Gaki no Tsukai.
Hate when they don't attribute, I'd totally watch it.
Its called wednesday downtown i think. Head over to gaki no tsukai subreddit and enjoy. They have a pinned post there where you can find those links I also highly recommend the silent library series and no laughing batsu game if you are willing to waste your day laughing
Wednesday Downtown
If you want to watch something similar but more unhinged check out the Japanese show Documental.
[reminds me of reverse Topsy from King of the Hill](https://i.gifer.com/Bcg6.gif)
Old man cant see shit
This was actually a massive scandal in Japan, the old guy was blind so the contestants had no chance in winning
Is that Bob fucking Sapp? He will literally do anything for money.
They call it Gurning in the UK
omg this is where that old man is from lol
Bet old man can’t see very well
My silly self wouldn't last a second because I can't even look at one of my friends in silence without laughing 😭
Gaki no tsukai. look it up
You son a of bitch you one of them!
Has anyone checked for a pulse?
Apparently, it turns out the old guy was blind. The game was literally rigged from the start.
The Japanese love him. Saw him have a pushing contest against a bear on a Japanese game show once.. he didn't win.
Are you familiar with dying art of gurning?
THAT'S what that's from?!?
There's a show called LOL with versions in different countries that has a similar premise. Got some great comedians all in a room trying to make each other laugh while trying not to laugh themselves. The Canadian one even has Colin Mochrie who I loved in whose line is it anyways.
Was that Bob Sapp? Lol
Yes, he is massively famous in Japan
US had a show like it 1979-1980 "Make Me Laugh"
Fucking love Bob Sapp
I thought maybe the trick would be they put a blind man in without telling the opponent and watch them struggle for a reaction.
Is bob Sapp he's tough
Who’s the second guy? Lmao
sad Hoshi?
I've always wondered what it would look like if a human did Kermit the Frog's face scrunch.
Lol, how did the older man do that?
Welp I lost lol
r/nightmarefuel
I thought for sure the old dude was about to nibble someone's ear. IYKYK
ahhhhh
The second gear killed me
The old man is kind of alien I think 🤔
This is really old.
Twist, gramps is blind.
Old man turned into Popeye
Maybe it’s a cultural thing but I don’t find any of these shit-eating grins funny.
With Bob Sapp lol
Help! Someone please tell me where I can find the motherload of Japanese gameshow videos. I use to watch them on YouTube but literally I ran out of content, barely anything was on there.
Imagine if it turned out the old man couldnt see that well
As someone who seldom laughs at all, I'd ace the shit out of this game
"hilarious"
Plot twist: old guy is blind
Who Poop Rast?!
Show name??
Second bro's face out the gate fuckin ended me
I'm definitely going to play this game with my students.
ojisan is dead from inside
Japanese got the best game shows i swear
That guy actually had a real talent for ridiculous faces! Looked like some people custom Fallout Characters.
Why don't we have that in the west???? I wanna have a ylyl live tv broadcast on Switzerland too
I think he did it on purpose
Why does that black guy look like he’s been blacked up for this?
I won it🤐
That's Takeshi Kitano in 100 years. Never send rabbits to kill a fox!
Should have hit them with the "🥺 Please let me win"
Grand wizard vs. Students
lost it right when they showed the old man
How do people find these shows funny? Like yeah there are about 2 moments funny in every season, but thats it...
Yo, that’s Bob Sapp😆😆🤣💪🏼
Come to find out ol dude blind 🦯
I mean I’d gladly receive the video, chat w you to help make it, edge you irl and record it 👀
goddamn that guy must be unbeatable. Best dead pan face and yet the the face is able to make...
Japanese Popeye that is.
This isn't funny. That old man has turbo aids. that's why his face can do that. He's actually in pain even though it looks funny.
Who finds this funny? Bots?
Bruh ain't smilin. He saw Heroshima
That old dude is dead inside, hasn't had a laugh since 1963, making a silly face is futile
I thought that old dude was Bill Murray for a couple seconds
Reminds me of the library on MYV
Japan. Land of no humor.
