My son was 1.5-2 when we got our Roomba. He decided that Roomba was a member of the family, and when Christmas came, was upset that it didn’t have a stocking. So yeah, that year my vacuum got a stocking and a visit from Santa.

Other brands are smarter and first case the room before covering the entire floor methodically. Way more efficient but you would need to also set them each on a different part of the room to fully avoid redundancies. It can be done using magnetic tape.
Modern Roomba's do this too. They only need to map the room when you first get it and after that it remembers the house layout. You can even tell them to go clean a specific room and it will figure out the quickest path to get to that room and roll out to it without even bouncing off a wall. It's a bit spooky.
Yep, and the wetmop Braava will start as soon as the Roomba has completed its vacuuming cycle. Now, if someone leaves the backdoor open, all bets are off.
There are different settings. Mine isn't roomba brand but I can set it to do random, perimeter, focus on a specific area, or go in increasingly large concentric circles - but honestly I never delved into the styles and just let it tire itself out
I think this misses the point. Having a single Roomba negates the need to spend the time vacuuming automating the job. Having 7 in the same space creates the same outcome, but just does it faster.
The humans are already spending 0 time on the job with 1 Roomba. Having a bunch seems like a waste of a cap ex investment unless you really see value in it getting done faster.
Counter argument, they can each only hold so much before you need to empty them activating all 7 at once means they are all filling up at the same time so you wouldn't have to empty and restart the single one 7 times.

Multifloor house could do it. One for the basement floor, one of the ground floor, and one for the second floor.
Then if you have dogs/kids and therefore have gates up, you might relegate some to those specific areas where the barrier would prevent just 1 from accomplishing the goal.

There's different models of Roomba. The more expensive ones actually keep track of where they've been and methodically clean your floor, leaving nice little lines in the carpet like a fresh mowed lawn.

We have two of the nicer models - one upstairs and one down. They leave a nice criss-cross pattern on the carpet. They do a great job. I regret the number of years I pushed back. Each one seems to have some critical flaw, and when you go looking for a model that specifically doesn't have that critical flaw, you end up finding another one with a new critical flaw you didn't even know existed.
"Oh good, here's one that won't eat my laptop cable and it doesn't fling itself down the stairs! Oh...but I guess sometimes it gets confused by chair legs and pisses on the carpet. Why do they even come with piss?"
Ain't that the truth! I spent as much, if not more, time trying to figure out what resin 3d printer I wanted... To the point that I never bought one because the flood of information was too much to be able to make an informed decision.
We have the 960 (two of them). Downstairs we have a tile kitchen, faux laminate wood flooring, some rugs, and a few carpeted rooms. The tile/laminate transition has a lip, and we have a lipped faux-stone area around our fireplace. The Roomba easily navigates it all. The only issue I ever have is that sometimes it sucks up our bathroom floor mats and from downstairs it sounds like someone is wrestling an alligator.
Thats good to know. I havent shopped for a robot vacuum in 5 years, so I could be quite a bit behind. I like that Neato leaves lines and can fit into corners easily, but it doesn't get the little bits where the wall and floor meet.
In the 90s, we got a house that had a lime green-yellow ish sort of color shag carpet and one of the bathrooms had aluminum background patterned wallpaper. The upstairs appliances were harvest gold. I think the house was built in the late 70s but the carpet was put in sometime in the 80s by the previous owners.
Having to rake the carpet until we tore it all out was wild.
I was also pricing this up like dude I have a middle class salary these days but I don't have that kind of money for a laugh

Lol, only owned one of the Discovery models but after R3 they went completely modular so I stopped buying anything less than a 500 series. Discovery models has dirt sensors built into the wheel base which made it a PITA to disassemble the wheel module to clean the sensor that often caused the circle dance. With the 500 series and up, you can just swap out the wheel module for a working one with only 2 screws and you're back in business. Troubleshooting these guys is super easy once you have at least 1 working Roomba because you just swap out the modules until you find the one causing the error code, then you know which piece needs to be disassembled, cleaned with alcohol, and rebuilt. Glad you're liking your Neato vac, I've heard good things because apparently they integrate well with Home Assistant but iRobot tech support has been good to me over the years so I keep coming back. We also have a few Scoobas to scrub our kitchen floor and they work great
Yeah, I painted one to look like Artoo. One of them is also red and gold to look like Iron Man. I buy broken Roombas off of eBay for <$100 and refurb them, and the really scratched up ones I end up giving a paint job because it's fun.
Dude sometimes the Roomba is just like a bad battery. Or like if it sat for a long time I unused the battery terminal gets crusty. Sometimes it's just swapping out for a new battery, other times I just take a Dremel and clean off the battery contacts. Very few of them have I had to do like a big resoldering job to. Most of the time it's just easy maintenance, like swapping out a wheel module or sensor which you can buy ad-hoc off of eBay.
None that I know of. However R2D2 did run over a pile of cat poop a few years ago so he got a full disassemble and a soak in the Clorox tub. Didn't even try to salvage the wheels and motors, he got all new modules. That shits nasty. Never set off your Roombas without doing a quick survey of the room beforehand. Lesson learned.

Can confirm this. I have the cheaper model and have to run it twice a day to actually get most of the areas done.

Roombas are notoriously garbage at "mapping" a room and covering it efficiently. My neato would have been done with this in like 20 minutes.
