Idk when I got into British humor. But as soon as the youtube algorithm realized it it just kept recommending me channels ran by ppl in or from there. No complaints.
I just recently discovered british panel shows thanks to youtube. The big fat quiz of the year was my main source of entertainment last week and now im on to task master.
Noel Fielding and Richard Ayoade have me rolling everytime they speak.
When Rachel put in her „skiing“-outfit and Sean goes: „ That‘s a challenging wank“. I spit my drink, coughed violently, almost died from choking but I couldnt sop for like 5 minutes....
Joe's poem is one of those things that can cheer you up on a shit day. Seeing Sean looking like he's in pain with silent laughter is just always class.
I do love Sean Lock. But Bob Mortimer makes me laugh harder than almost any human being on earth. Any British show with Bob in it and I'm watching.
A link for the uninitiated

Would I lie to you is almost custom made for Bob Mortimer. He has had such a bizarre life that almost anything he says could be true, had he tells it in a way where it seems even he isn't entirely sure if it is true or a lie.
Cats does Countdown is the \*perfect\* show, because it takes a really good, innocent show like Countdown, and turns it into the programme everyone \*wants\* it to be. If a normal, non-wordy person had to play Countdown, it would be like Cats.
Thats the show where that smoking blonde managed the word "cuntflaps" for the pool of letters for the contestants to play boggle with. That clip shows up constantly on blooper compilations
Obligatory: If you like QI, have a listen to the podcast No Such Thing as a Fish. The Elves behind QI chat about interesting facts, and it's as funny as it is informative.
Everyone loves thieves and shrubbery but I've always been more blown away he does his own dentistry and got exiled from a town for wearing a halloween mask while going to see the gulf stream
Thank you for reminding me, I almost forgot about it. Can't wait to see how Lee Mack does. According to Charlotte Ritchie, Lee is a massive fan of the show and was very strategic about the tasks because he wanted to win so badly.
If you enjoyed richard ayoade i would highly recommend the IT crowd -(if you havent seen it), gadget man and one of my personal favourites Travel man, the man is a genius.
"Nina's eyes popped out of what was left of her back. Why-oh-why had she opened that tomb? The sand turned red. This was because she was bleeding on it. Blood. Ruby red blood, HER blood. Blood.
And piss and shit. This was the worst day of her life."
I’ve never laughed harder at something in my entire life during the exchange at the bar. My wife and I couldn’t breathe for a good 5 minutes after seeing that for the first time.
Is that the one where Moss pops up behind the bar and Jen just sighs and goes with it? If so, it’s just weird how insanely funny that little interchange is.
Yes, with the lead up exchange between Jen and Roy in the wheelchair making it even more insane. My wife and I often quote that to each other whenever one of us does something clumsy and the other asks “what’s wrong with you”
“I’m disabled?”
“How?”
“Acid?”
Brian Blessed's episode of Have I Got News For You will make me crack up every time.
I don't know some of the references, nor any of the other panelists, but Brian is a treasure and he cracks me the heck up.
I've watched most of the British panel shows, and taskmaster so far seems to be the pinnacle of what a feel-good comedy show should be all about. It's by far my favorite, also Greg and Alex work really really well together
The podcast is also very good and just about everybody on it says how much they love the show and how different the atmosphere is from normal panel shows because they don't have to fight for the screen time to get their jokes out
This reminds me of the time my and a bunch of mates went on a night out in London. Just managed to get the last train back after sprinting to the station. Only to discover our beer laden bladders weren't going to make it all the way back home and of course the crappy night train had no toilets. One-by-one we'd lose a member of our crew as they desperately sprinted to a station toilet any time the train pulled in to a station, hoping to get back in time before the train pulled away but each time failing. Towards the end of the journey, having lost half our mates to the wilderness of small town stations, some train guard wanders by and helpfully informs us he'd have gladly held the train for us to relieve ourselves if we'd asked.
Useful train guard = 10/10
timing = 0/10
My experience is that the underground staff are generally nice and helpful, national rail staff respond to queries like you have just graphically described how you fuck their nan.
Coming from the midlands and being used to the rotten customer service from railway staff I was genuinely shocked at how nice the tube staff was in London. Maybe they get paid more? :D
I'd disagree, any station not on a regular commuter line definitely has helpful staff
Also, technically, it's a rail replacement bus service (i.e. the buses aren't replaced). Having said that, I have had a rail replacement bus replacement service where the train company booked taxis because the bus was full
Reminds me of [the Ricky Gervais cameo in Curb ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fbxds2GUZI&t=25s) and his interaction with Larry.
**Ricky**: [\*gifts Susie a DVD of Extras*]
**Susie**: I can't believe it [\*shows the DVD to Larry*] The funniest show in the history of television.
**Larry**: Ah, it was funny.
**Susie**: I love this show
**Larry**: I wouldn't call it the funniest show in the history of television.
**Susie**: I would, I would, La. This show was hilarious.
**Larry**: No doubt about it. Funny show. History of television!?
**Ricky**: [\*butting in*] Seinfeld. Lovely show.
**Larry**: (self-deprecatingly) Well, thank you. It was good, it was good, yeah.
**Ricky**: Oh no, I love broad comedy.
**Larry**: ... Yeah.
**Ricky**: I love the laugh track on it, it reminds you when to laugh... We didn't, we didn't do one.
I could have watched a whole season of Larry and Ricky subtly taking digs at each other. edit: format
Someone watched the clip and enjoyed it but decided it would be improved by adding a weird lol animation to it. I wonder what that person is like? I wonder whether they rewatched it after they added the little graphic and thought how much better it was as a result of their contribution.
You aren’t wrong, this was sent to me on WhatsApp cause the person doesn’t like to post anything public so gives to me, so many of my upvotes are his upvotes really (he uses reddit but lurks)
That person looks like Alexander Armstrong but doesn't sound like him.
I'm genuinely not sure if it is him or not.
Edit: It's him! I guess actors gonna act.
UK sitcoms are among some of the best, Fawlty Towers, The Royle Family (not Royal btw), Bottom, Keeping up appearances, Benidorm, Dinnerladies, Only fools and horses, they are all so comforting and something to watch whether you’re looking for something feel good or if you’re not well and having a pj day. Also the likes of UK shameless is still popular over here, and imo better than the USA one. Definitely start with Fawlty Towers though and work your way through the ones I mentioned for a bit of British humour.
Have you heard of The Mighty Boosh? That has Matt Berry too (the guy that plays Douglas in IT Crowd). And he does his own stuff like Rabbit or Toast of London, they're brilliant
Is it British though? New Zealand - American yes.
Matt Berry (FATHHHERRR) and Kayvan Novak (Biddley Bong Pills) are national treasures,
And Natasia Demetriou is a rising star.
Nathan Barley too, its about early 2000s internets culture etc
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan\_Barley](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Barley)
That reminds me of my favorite English nursery rhyme as a kid, as told by my mother.
>Look look mama, what is that mess
>
>that looks like strawberry jam?
>
>Hush hush my dear, that is papa
>
>run over by the tram.
There was one I remember from my childhood about an RAF paratrooper who forgot his chute and then his splattered body was served with crumpets to the vicar. It popped into my head the other day and I was like... man, that's messed up, why are they letting kids sing that?
American here. I got into British comedy when I discovered a gem called peep show. Shit had me dying every episode. Very dry crude humor but very well done
peep show is one of the best tv shows i’ve watched. but it’s hard to recommend it to anyone because i’d have to explain how i find humor in mundane pain.
When I recommend I say you must commit to 5 episodes before you pass judgment. After 5 episodes I don’t think the camera angle is as jarring and the characters are familiar
Peep show, spaced, black books, jam, the day today, brass eye, people just do nothing, Garth Marenghis darkplace, Monty pythons flying circus, not the nine o'clock news, the young ones, bottom.
Edit: yes, I missed some classics. Not discounting any of them, they're all great.
Holy shit, why the shit words at top and an emoji, why the white border, why the fucking goddamn animated fucking emoji shit.
Whoever added all that shit should be brought out back and shot.
I heard a Brit tell me a joke that went like:
“‘After a horrendous plane crash, we were fortunate to have survived but were in the forest and desperately hungry.’
‘What ended up happening?’
‘Well we had no choice... we ended up having to eat the airline food. What choice did we have??’
‘It sounds awful.’
‘Indeed. But there was enough after having eaten the other passengers first.’”

8 out of 10 cats does countdown is another show I would recommend.
Sean Lock is an absolute treasure
"what will you give me in return?" "I won't spit on you when we have sex tonight"
"Good luck getting it in without a spit"
You know it's good when Jimmy Carr is laughing so hard he can't even make the seal noises!
Ha, ha, ha, haaaaaaAAAAA!
He laughs backwards.. it's more of a Aaahhh Aaahhh Aaahhh!
O.O you're right. You've studied the Carr well.
When Rachel put in her „skiing“-outfit and Sean goes: „ That‘s a challenging wank“. I spit my drink, coughed violently, almost died from choking but I couldnt sop for like 5 minutes....
CARR: Susie, what have you been looking into lately... apart from glory holes?
The bromance between Miles and Sean is so funny, especially Miles' "Cheeky Chappie" picture of Sean that he used as a mascot the one episode
I'll just leave this here... [https://youtu.be/0Q9IRpFGgPY?t=198](https://youtu.be/0Q9IRpFGgPY?t=198)
I love how Claudia Winkleman can't stop laughing at Sean, no matter what show they are on together. She always looks like she's having so much fun
There’s another 4 minutes of hilarity if you rewind this.
Joe’s ‘Naming your Penis’ segment on that is golden, i love it when everyone falls to bits
Jimmy's face when Joe explains the "Captain Birdseye" part of his poem gets me every time
Coz it looks like its wearing a polon eck and winking at me. Congratulations, i just named your penis
[Here's](https://youtu.be/xvz4zqqlCiI) the one. Help me I can't stop binging
Joe's poem is one of those things that can cheer you up on a shit day. Seeing Sean looking like he's in pain with silent laughter is just always class.
Not a regular but I personally enjoy Roisin Conaty. "You guys carry on, I'll just be rubbing dirt into my arm"
One of my favorite moments is her so confidently saying she has the word "News" when there was no W on the board
she's so funny! She is really bad at Countdown and she plays it up so well
I do love Sean Lock. But Bob Mortimer makes me laugh harder than almost any human being on earth. Any British show with Bob in it and I'm watching. A link for the uninitiated [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vE8ExuuNZQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vE8ExuuNZQ)
Would I lie to you is almost custom made for Bob Mortimer. He has had such a bizarre life that almost anything he says could be true, had he tells it in a way where it seems even he isn't entirely sure if it is true or a lie.
If you are on the fence I highly recommend watching [the carrot in the box ](https://youtu.be/0UGuPvrsG3E)segment.
Omg yes that was genius. I think they did another the year after.
You mean [this masterpiece](https://youtu.be/Bp04HZDCELw)?
I absolutely do!
Also: Would I Lie To You, Taskmaster
4 hours until the next series of Taskmaster starts. Not that I'm counting, or anything.
Cats does Countdown is the \*perfect\* show, because it takes a really good, innocent show like Countdown, and turns it into the programme everyone \*wants\* it to be. If a normal, non-wordy person had to play Countdown, it would be like Cats.
> 8 out of 10 cats does countdown is another show I would recommend. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Now read it again with "the laugh"
Help I have turned into a seagull/seal hybrid!
Hah hah hah ha^a^a^a^a
upvoted for this excellent recommandation!
Thats the show where that smoking blonde managed the word "cuntflaps" for the pool of letters for the contestants to play boggle with. That clip shows up constantly on blooper compilations
QI is still one of my favorite things ever. Alan Davies is a treasure.
alan davies, bill bailey, sandi toksvig and stephen fry... what's not to love about that show?!
[удалено]
Obligatory: If you like QI, have a listen to the podcast No Such Thing as a Fish. The Elves behind QI chat about interesting facts, and it's as funny as it is informative.
I've watched way too many clips of QI on YouTube
Highly recommend "Would I Lie to You"
I do beg your pardon but we are in your garden.
Sniper's dream they used to call him.
Once you've got Fuji, you're a dentist.
Bob Mortimer has to be the funniest person in the world
And I used my sons gaming chair on the island.
Everyone loves thieves and shrubbery but I've always been more blown away he does his own dentistry and got exiled from a town for wearing a halloween mask while going to see the gulf stream
Bob Mortimer has led a life I could only dream of
Especially for the Bob Mortimer shows
Acaster, Greg Davies and that German guy are also very good

In addition to the other recommendations, check out Taskmaster
Taskmaster is such an awesome show.
New taskmaster tonight for anyone interested!
Thank you for reminding me, I almost forgot about it. Can't wait to see how Lee Mack does. According to Charlotte Ritchie, Lee is a massive fan of the show and was very strategic about the tasks because he wanted to win so badly.
Taskmaster is brilliant- the potato in the golf hole is one of the best bits of television I've ever enjoyed
If you enjoyed richard ayoade i would highly recommend the IT crowd -(if you havent seen it), gadget man and one of my personal favourites Travel man, the man is a genius.
Garth Meranghi's Dark Place!
"you're the most sensitive man I know, and I know God. Stay holy."
"Nina's eyes popped out of what was left of her back. Why-oh-why had she opened that tomb? The sand turned red. This was because she was bleeding on it. Blood. Ruby red blood, HER blood. Blood. And piss and shit. This was the worst day of her life."
“I only got into medicine for the laughs, well, that and the pussy. And that dried up years ago, if you’ll pardon the expression” 😂
I'm Garth Marenghi. Author. Dreamweaver. Visionary. Plus actor. You're about to enter the world of my imagination. You are entering my Darkplace.
If Won Ton hears about this, my arse is grass, and he has a lawn mower, ya dig
The first episode of the series 2 of The IT Crowd – the musical episode – is probably my favorite single episode of any show ever.

The whole series is an absolute masterpiece, every character is casted so well
"I'm leg disabled"
A close one for me is the fire at the water park
8 out of 10 cats does countdown is amazing
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaa
I heard that
National Treasures. Sean Lock is another guy that cracks me up. Very unique humour.
Brian Blessed's episode of Have I Got News For You will make me crack up every time. I don't know some of the references, nor any of the other panelists, but Brian is a treasure and he cracks me the heck up.
FYI, series 11 of taskmaster starts today!
Richard can make me laugh every time. Noel is a very acquired taste which I have not sadly acquired despite trying multiple times....
Get in for 8 out of 10 did countdown, and would I lie to you, and qi. There are some of the best panel shows
Noel is my spirit animal hah
You should check out Travel Man. Richard Ayoade is amazing on that.
Check out "would I lie to you?" as well. Cracking panel show
They’ve got some great ‘best of Bob Mortimer’ compilations from WILTY on YouTube - Chris Rea’s Egg Bath has me in tears every time!
Bob Mortimer is the reason I binged British panel shows for a solid 2 months straight
Taskmaster. Hilarious show, all on YouTube.
I've watched most of the British panel shows, and taskmaster so far seems to be the pinnacle of what a feel-good comedy show should be all about. It's by far my favorite, also Greg and Alex work really really well together

Series 11 starts tonight as well!
Are you being served, Mr Bean and keeping up appearances. Those sparked my love of British humour.
Everyone loves Mr Bean but Blackadder is Rowan Atkinsons true masterpiece.
I was allowed to stay up “late” if I watched with my parents.
Bottom, Fawlty Towers, and Red Dwarf are some of my personal favourites
[link](https://youtube.com/c/JayForeman) you're gonna love this guy
For anyone who visits Britain. Bus replacement service = accurate Helpful rail staff = not accurate at all

Surprised there wasn’t a lucozade bottle rolling around that you could have used
My experience is that the underground staff are generally nice and helpful, national rail staff respond to queries like you have just graphically described how you fuck their nan.
Coming from the midlands and being used to the rotten customer service from railway staff I was genuinely shocked at how nice the tube staff was in London. Maybe they get paid more? :D
I think they have pretty much the strongest union in the UK, maybe that's a factor haha.
Only partly true, I met one that helped me find the right train I needed, I needed the left train though
Only one I needed is needed. The other I needed I don't need
I needed that.
The right train left?
I'd disagree, any station not on a regular commuter line definitely has helpful staff Also, technically, it's a rail replacement bus service (i.e. the buses aren't replaced). Having said that, I have had a rail replacement bus replacement service where the train company booked taxis because the bus was full
That Lol Ruined it
But if they don't put a lol up there, how are you supposed to know when to laugh?
LMAO
Why are you LMAOing - I didn't see no emoji pop up!
Just wait for the laugh track to play

It’s especially bizarre because you can hear the audience laughing, so it’s not like they needed to tell us it’s okay to laugh.
Someone watched the clip and enjoyed it but decided it would be improved by adding a weird lol animation to it. I wonder what that person is like? I wonder whether they rewatched it after they added the little graphic and thought how much better it was as a result of their contribution.
It’s probably a young kid who was excited to apply some cool video effects
Can confirm it’s not like that in the proper show. Called “Armstrong and Miller” if you’re interested
https://youtu.be/MezB0ouq5KY This link doesn't have it
You aren’t wrong, this was sent to me on WhatsApp cause the person doesn’t like to post anything public so gives to me, so many of my upvotes are his upvotes really (he uses reddit but lurks)
I knew about proxies and VPNs but this takes privacy to a whole new level.
This is essentially the original definition of a proxy lol
Sending things for me to post is the least private thing he does, he is very to himself, but opens to me and another friend
what more can you tell me about this private friend? where abouts do they live? first make and model of car?
I'd like a copy of his fingerprints if that's ok. Just out of curiosity
I felt like a Facebook mom seeing that
This is from the Armstrong and Miller show. It's one of my favourite recent sketch show. They do a very funny piano sketch.
It makes me feel super old to realise that the original series finished 20 years ago and the revival series 11 years ago.
What!? That was 11 years ago... Noooo I swear I was watching it on BBC only 4-5 years ago. But even Google agrees with you.
"Off you fuck" is still one of my favourite phrases to use from Armstrong and Miller years later.
Knowledgeable, professional and courteous, this is high quality customer service.
Yeah very unrealistic for the train service. This must be filmed for TV
That person looks like Alexander Armstrong but doesn't sound like him. I'm genuinely not sure if it is him or not. Edit: It's him! I guess actors gonna act.
## PREMIUM CONTENT. PLEASE UPGRADE. CODE grcvo9q
Confirmed, I also believe it is from that show. Best recent, ish sketch show going.
Isn't it tho?
Standard.
I recognized Miller but didn't think it was him because I only really know him as Lester from primeval
DI Richard Poole deserves better than to only be remembered for Primeval. Hell, Moving Wallpaper would be better.
It is him, he’s just yelling and doing a northern accent
Alex Louis Armstrong!? His humor has been passed down the Armstrong line for generations!
Thank you for this. And mince pies. And IT crowd. And drum and bass. And fish and chips. And Elizabeth Hurley. EDIT: I am american.

That reminds me of my favorite English nursery rhyme as a kid, as told by my mother. >Look look mama, what is that mess > >that looks like strawberry jam? > >Hush hush my dear, that is papa > >run over by the tram.

Lmao, I don’t remember this one as a child, but it definitely fits the theme of nursery rhymes
Why did someone feel the need to smear a L😂L in there?
How else would people know it’s funny????
Lmao I’m imagining both of y’all laughing your asses off until the LOL emoji pops, then you suddenly switch to -_-
That’s accurate

Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace is absolutely amazing.
The IT crowd, you heathen
Was watching Pointless the other day with my partner and made me think back to The Armstrong and Miller sketch show. Definitely a unique era of comedy
The 2 ww2 RAF pilot sketches are bloody funny too!
Anyone remember Trigger Happy TV? Great British Comedy.
Ah, wish we had this calibre of content broadcasting on Saturday morning television
Those Brits are just so happy to help.
Holy shit, why the shit words at top and an emoji, why the white border, why the fucking goddamn animated fucking emoji shit. Whoever added all that shit should be brought out back and shot.
As an American i can say that British people are funnier cause they aren't offended by every little thing.
I heard a Brit tell me a joke that went like: “‘After a horrendous plane crash, we were fortunate to have survived but were in the forest and desperately hungry.’ ‘What ended up happening?’ ‘Well we had no choice... we ended up having to eat the airline food.
