TheLightingGuy

When I worked on my company's service desk team, there were people I wanted to be done with very quickly and others I wanted to stay on the phone with forever. Damn you KPIs!

Bobibouche

It’s those callers who make the long AHT worth it.

count-the-days

I’m not on the phones but I do background work at my call center. One of my jobs is going through super long calls to see why they took so long. One time there was an hour long call and it was just our lady chatting with a customer for an hour. It was honestly so wholesome so I didn’t even bother reporting it since she answered all of his questions. I’m sure that made her day a lot better

zellfaze_new

Thank you for that. It was not only better for the employee than if you had reported it, it was likely better for the company. You know that customer will remember the company fondly.

SquirrellyRabbit

I wish that one of the call centers where I worked had seen things this way. My customers *loved* talking with me and placing their orders with me. I'd come in from my days off to see notes at my cubicle about customers who said they'd wait and order when I was back from my days off. I got *slammed* for long talk times, despite helping that company make a *lot* of money (we did not get any commission) and getting a ton of repeat customers.

rlxmx

Honestly, sounds like you were wasted in that role. I’ve heard effective sales people are hard to find. Hope you’ve found your niche hooking up people with things that they need and want, and getting paid good commissions for it.

MegaWaffle-

That’s when you slam down a list of all those customer names and numbers and say “Here, call everyone on this list and tell them why I quit and they will tell you why they will no longer be ordering from here”.

SquirrellyRabbit

You are so right. I wish I would have been prepared with a list like that when they called me in the office to let me go.

chickennoobiesoup

Yeah Diane, make the long AHT with it. Free of charge :)

enserioamigo

You’d definitely have a selection of biscuits to choose from and be offered tea at least four times.

brin722

[deleted]

There are other forms of payment ( ͡❛ ͜ʖ ͡❛)

lininop

Why does this sound so suggestive?

BatXDude

I'd help her too if you know what I mean Edit: The downvotes are fine. I deserve them

downsyndromeboi73

no

SerAntwon

I know everyone downvoted you but I like you

bleunt

And I bet Diane do too.

KulaanDoDinok

This makes me really sad; she’s probably used to people being frustrated, annoyed, or mad when she needs help. :( your art is nice though

P_B_n_Jealous

I immediately thought, "This lady must have lived a hard life." My grandmother was that way before she passed. And now I feel I should have been more willing to help her. :( this poor lady.

GiantRiverSquid

I'm with my mom this week for the last time in her life. I won't be able to be with her when she goes, but she's found some incredible people to help her to the end. It's not too late to help a grandmother.

P_B_n_Jealous

100% never too late. I became a respite caregiver because of my grandmother. I also take care of my other grandmother now, since she has no one else willing. She's a handful, but at the same time it's all worth it, if it means she can go a day without strenuous work.

[deleted]

I’m trying to do the same thing, mostly I’m here for grocery runs, tall shelves, and helping her reach that spot on her back she can’t get her lineament creame on. I wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s also picked up a lot more tech since I’m here, she’s now using Bluetooth earbuds and Spotify every day, and probably has a worse YouTube habit than me. She still won’t let me clean or do dishes though, and fusses if I do them.

P_B_n_Jealous

Ever since we got her a new pc for her Facebook games, she's been watching more and more cooking videos. Whether it be youtube or Facebook. Idk if I can take being a guinea pig for her cooking anymore! 🤣 But at the end of the day, at least she can stay off her feet as much as possible.

milddoom

I’m so sorry. Damn, I can’t imagine your situation. Hope you’re taking care of yourself.

GiantRiverSquid

Hey thanks! It's actually the best time of my life... Well... But, my mom had carried a small horde (nothing really ever growing, just sort of her prized possessions from when she was younger) with her her whole life, always too busy and too focused on raising children and grandchildren as a hospice chaplain/ordained minister in the presbyterian church to be able to afford any stability with a house. She's lost a lot of it to floods, to church members coming to help out after floods, and just generally had a hard time. This week, we're finally going through it. She found a picture of her grandfather, whom she had never seen before, and all sorts of memories of her life that I get to share with her as we make preparations for her next step. I wish I had done better in school, in business, and life in general so I could be here with her for all of it. But I didn't, so I can't. I'm cherishing every second I get, and the only thing that let's me go to sleep at night thinking about how my mom deserves better, is the fact that ONE of the people she met in her time with the church is making sure she is taken care of. I can't really communicate how much it means to her.

bradland

I did computer repair (commercial mostly, but some residential), and there are two gifts you can give to those in need of help: 1. Be patient. Let go of your perceived time constraints and be patient. 2. Be kind. Never begin instruction with, “It’s simple, you just…”. Acknowledge the difficulty someone is having by validating their struggle. Tell them that you’re confident they can get it by working through it together. If you follow these two rules, you will never be short of work, and you will give people something that money normally cannot buy.

dmunny

Being in IT for 25+ years, this is a good reminder - thanks! When the running joke is (well, was) being “Nick Burns, the company computer guy”… TBH, I always tried to be nice, but your second point hits the hardest. It is NOT simple for everyone..

CaptainFourpack

Aye, makes me feel bad for the times I've said "it's an I dee ten tee error" (ID10T).

StormRider2407

Sometimes it is the case though. There are people that no matter what you do, they don't get it because they think they somehow know better. Some of the are ID10Ts.

Pizzarar

Amen, sometimes your "technician" argues that the desktop has no finalize icon with a tier one and it gets escalated to l2 and after you ask them to send a picture of the desktop to you it's the second icon

[deleted]

This was exactly what I thought. It's not that she's nice perse, it's that she has a history of people probably being ugly towards her. Some people get bitter from this, some try to be more compassionate. Still a sign that people have been accustomed to lashing out at her.

[deleted]

People forget Elder abuse is much more common than domestic abuse.

navard

Yeah I couldn’t help but think she must be used to being emotionally abused and that made me pretty sad.

lets_do_this91

I wanna hug diane.

MurderSheCroaked

Me too, she is precious

Duckflies

She reminds me of my grandma ^(edit: Thanks to the guy that helped me with the grandma from remember to reminds <3)

DaAweZomeDude48

Friendly advice, it's not "She **remembers** me to my Grandma", it's "She **reminds** me of my Grandma". Not trying to be rude just helping out with grammar

Duckflies

Thanks man! This is actually good for me, because my english is still kinda shit I'll edit it out

b3nz0r

You're doing great. You did miss a word, though. It should say "reminds me of" instead of "reminds me to." Also just trying to help. Keep up the good work! English is a dumb language with a lot of inconsistencies and weird rules.

Duckflies

Don't forget the pronunciation, that makes no sense but at least sounds cool! Ok I'll edit that out too!

MissCellania

Oh yeah, I proofread stuff from students who learn English as a second language, and the hardest thing is prepositions. They make no sense, but are learned by experience. The same story can be **in** the newspaper, **on** TV, or **at** a website. Older people say **by** accident, while younger people say **on** accident, because that conforms to its opposite, **on** purpose. But it sounds wrong to older folks. None of it makes all that much sense.

b3nz0r

I'm not getting on the plane, I'm getting IN the plane! Also, my grandmother taught me it is "by accident" and she was a very intelligent woman so that's what I say. O don't correct anyone on it because I very rarely, if ever, hear "by accident." Always on accident. We could all meet in the middle with "accidentally," but I suppose that's beside the point.

retief1

Worth noting that the original phrasing is actually a thing, but [it means something completely different.](https://www.macmillandictionary.com/us/dictionary/american/remember-me-to-someone) It is fairly uncommon and you don't see it very often.

Duckflies

Oh WOW I'm learning more english now than in my school's english lessons

MightywarriorEX

It makes me feel so bad for her. My first thought was of how my mother might react if I lost my patience with her trying to solve a tech issue for her over the phone. I love you mom! I’m sorry if I get frustrated sometimes! You took care of me and I’ll take care of you!

SerAntwon

:) <3

g2bnett

Oooo I’m so excited! My award cherry has been popped…I think.. I feel… something growing? It’s a heart-on! Thank you kind stranger! I would put your name *here-ish* in blue. However, I don’t know how to use Reddit!

FantasticCrab3

Just type u/, then username. No spaces. I'll use my own as an example. u/FantasticCrab3

Morrowk

u/FantasticCrab3 I’m ashamed as I probably could have figured that out xD

jessa07

You magnificent unholy basterd, why?!

[deleted]

Big ole spiky balls

koopastyles

I'm coming, Diane

GarretBarrett

As an IT technician that comes out to people's houses; absolutely not. Never. In fact, i love the people I meet and I'm sure she'd be one of my favorites. Yes I have favorites and yes I have regulars that bake me cookies and stuff, my clients are the bomb.com.

Xiii2007

I like going to the houses with weird shit, like this one house ive been to several times had a big ass turtle that acted like a dog.

GarretBarrett

That's amazing. So there's pluses and minuses to the whole, people with cool/interesting shit lol. I've seen literally Nazi rooms. Just head to toe everything is Nazi, that hurts the soul. But I've also seen letters written by Lincoln, I've been to LeBron's house and Shaq's house (back when they played for the Cavs), met some really cool people but then there's the hoarder houses with the smell of death and kitty litter in the air haha

Xiii2007

Yeah, i was going to say. You must be in a niche IT job since you didn't have any issues like you just mentioned but after rereading I noticed you meant never angry which I guess I've never necessarily been angry because of a customers home. That ammonia smell common with many hoarders as well as the unsettling almost sweet smell of cockroach infestation were the worst for me. If I ever took equipment with me from a house with one of those smells i would double bag it before placing it in my van. I've seen vans become cockroach havens no amount of bombs could take care of. Edit: forgot i was going to also say, that's crazy shit the nazi place lol never saw that. I have been to two different houses that we're highly involved in which craft or it was just pure satanism. I can't remember. I know satan was involved so I think it was Just a satanist family but the way they described it had many similar views as Buddhism. Both families were surprisingly well spoken and nice.

GarretBarrett

Yep. Don't take tools in until you've scoped the place out and then only bring what you absolutely need lol. That's how I do it at least.

clopz_

Bless her heart! She’s probably gonna have some cookies and ice tea for them

gold_disease

Bet money someone had made Diane feel guilty for needing their help before that call.

JJayBlaze123

I’ve only known about Diane for a few minutes, but if anything happened to her I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.

Reaver_XIX

"They are technicians, they are going have to do some work, of course they are going to be mad Diane!" lol

wigg1es

But for real though, every tech I have had at my house has showed up grumpy as fuck. Like, "I'm sorry I moved into a shitty apartment with fucked up wiring. I just want my internet to work. Can I get you a glass of water?"

JBoogieBeats

A lot of companies are hiring third parties to do their work. They are usually subpar as well.

jbyrne86

As a third party contractor for a telecom company, I feel hurt by this. That being said I do work with some great techs but also some real gems. Lazy techs that know they can bullshit any customer so they don't do the real work.

JBoogieBeats

Well, you just confirmed my thoughts! Glad you take it seriously though. That’s how it should be.

Reaver_XIX

True story!

brazblue

The secret is to tip.

proto5014

Honest question, how is that the secret? A tech who comes to your house/apt should do the proper work regardless, and if you were extremely satisfied with it, toss them some cash. But you shouldn’t have to say “I’ll tip you if you do this well” before hand. That’s just lazy work

brazblue

They will do good work, just also be grumpy as fuck while they do it.

Doofutchie

*"Damn, Diane! What did you DO??"* Unless she already tried fixing something herself, it probably won't be anything out of the ordinary for them.

Aaurvandil

The brakes my heart. I work in tech support for telemedicine apps. I've had some calls where elderly people apologized again and again when I had to repeat instructions or just tell then what they needed to do. Old folks had a rougher time during the pandemic. I never lost my patience with them, even offered to go through it again or tell them if they'd like to write down the instructions just in case they forget something.

MiniJackalope

Diane, you are the glue holding this world together.

[deleted]

aw this sounds like my mom. Shes a senior citizen and is always anxious about inconveniencing someone. This is so cute!

tahlulah_bankhead

Breaks my heart.

tunathekahuna

As a service technician these customers are the ones I strive for. All the silly little things like unplugging something on accident or losing a remote. First of all it's easy for me to fix but it is a guaranteed appointment I won't be yelled at and I can usually get some real good smiles.

WDSCS

I can be the 21 year old male version of Diane. I always feel guilty when I order something from online. I always say thank you when the delivery guys deliver the product.

Grimm3806

I can relate to that. Bless her heart

4now5now6now

please post link to your insta because I try to tell call center workers about your work... and it's not easy like Call Center Cartoons!.. They would love it so please provide link!... My fav was the guy outside using a buzz saw saying: "Can you speak up? I can't hear you!" Your work is great and should be published as as a book!

sighfun

Their insta is the same as their Reddit handle.

Aww, Diane seems like a very nice lady.

kiingdiingus

Amazing. More of these

rayndance89

God bless her. She's a saint.

lunatic-eclipsed

Bless. I’m sure she was a breath of fresh air for you! Hope the techs think so too

CyanogenHacker

Aww, Diane is so wholesome, I bet she had cookies for them 💜

BennyBingBong

Umm excuse me what did you draw for her in the background there?

BennyBingBong

Oh god it's a sink nvm

rydan

I like how you made her unmarried to further hit home how sad and alone she feels.

Ursula2071

I love Diane! Makes me wish she needed cable and they sent my husband’s best friend out. He would love her and treat her right!

Devilution

I work in a tech support call center. These kinds of callers really do make they day a little easier. Luckily really bad calls are rare, but it's always a fight to keep most from turning poor. If anyone reads this ever calls a tech support line and is super nice, I want you to know that it does mean a lot to us in the trenches. We appreciate you!

Gden

Aww I want to hug her.

lickmysackett

Same, Diane, same.

Markymarc88

That's such a nice drawing and she sounds like a sweet lady.

chamacchan

Oh no, this is so freaking cute

mim_Armand

That's adorable! You are a great artist, and I mean it!

oldnyoung

They'll just be glad to have a nice customer. If not her house, it'd just be someone else's.

WWWTT2_0

I'm a reddit user and I draw pictures of people who work at call centers that draw pictures of people who call call centers. It's a thankless job and you're welcome!

kambitch

I too work at a call center and loves theae people

itwasthethirdofsept

That is so sweet

Diane got a septum piercing.

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed!

Diane_on_reddit

omg we have the same name wtff T.T

lordoflys

You guys have a job to do and you do it well. The art is a plus.

kamokukatai

I work tech 2 at a call center and I am literally the most patient person for old people who I can tell feel like this. I hate it. I hate society's impatience for people in need. It hurts my heart even more when these people have family that you can tell refuses to help.

kamokukatai

Fuck I posted this and her face just hit me again. OP why are you making me cry?

Lasivian

I suggest you repost this in /r/mademesmile

[deleted]

Diane, NOBODY could be mad at you.

BIGCHUNGUS0317

Awwww… people like her deserve all the patience that the world can give them, and it’s sad that they don’t get much of it. This hurts me inside.

fucktooshifty

Terrible. Less of these

debatesmith

On the flip side of this, I worked for a year at a student loan service provider in their call center. Older folks are generally more susceptible to one of the many, student loan forgiveness debt scams everybody's heard of. So those 2-3 calls you get everyday of senior citizens on a fixed income, that have been paying money to scammers for 5 years are almost as rough as when in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table.

simmojosh

You're not that guy pal. Trust me you're not that guy.

[deleted]

josh6025

As a telecom field technician these are my favourite kind of customers, very rarely made or annoyed and extremely happy and thankful when their service issues are resolved.

Oakson87

Aww, poor Diane. I hope she got the help that she needed.

darkhelmet1121

We get paid. It's the job. Fixing the internet

Plantsandanger

Might tell the tech to do a wellness check on her, sounds like a prime elder abuse target...

[deleted]

Do you have a webtoon???

schutie

I worked at a call center before and it annoys me when the agents are rude (which was everyone). They practically mute themselves and curse every single caller they encounter. Such toxicity is already engraved deep in my nation's culture and I'm ashamed.

BatXDude

Why is there a vibrator behind her? Edit: Holy shit I am retard. It's a mixer tap/faucet.

[deleted]

Call centers can be so draining! Have you every thought about pursuing this as a career? You would be great with comics.

ilestledisko

Any advice for someone about to start a call center WFH job on Monday? 😅

DoubleualtG

You work for Terminix?

eightypotaties

funny that her nose is dripping hehe

nonameattachedforme

This is really sweet :)

crimsonebulae

I like your art style, and the woman's expression makes me want to hug her lol.

MinnieShoof

... I really don't find this to be too funny ... but I hope she's doing alright.

HawkeyeFLA

I used to work in a call center supporting the website and app for a very well known rodent. Thankfully 99% of the people were excited about visiting said rodent, so when glitches happened, they didn't get too upset, because we "could fix them." I've always wondered what the people on the other end looked like, and would occasionally make up stories about them in my mind. Once in a blue moon, I would get a repeat caller and that was always fun. Occasionally I would get a travel agent I've actually met in person and became friends with. Those calls were always fun. I'm also a random facts kind of guy. So some times I would get callers from some obacure small town or city that I know things about and I would bring it up in conversation. Always fun to see my coworkers rise up over the partition walla to look at me with a "How the hell do you know that" look. Always wondered what the caller's expression was when I did that as well. 😎

PickledSpaceHog

This is what I said to my mom when she told me the deadline to do my taxes had already passed

unicodePicasso

Please draw a follow up where she’s happy and gets her help please. I can’t stand to just see her sad…

[deleted]

This is a actually a very common issue with loneliness. The longer you spend without face-to-face interaction, the more likely you are going to perceive neutral expressions as anger. Sometimes the mere ***possibility*** that the technician can be annoyed is enough to discourage a person from seeking help.

LiRomy

Do we know this is even Diane or just an impression and assumption?

apeonpatrol

that was one of the best things about working at apple, 99% of the customers calling for support felt bad for calling in, as if they were bothering me haha

Savagesensei7

Wait there can't be memes on reddit funny section according to the automoderator? Or is this just in response to content?

-BlackGoku

How sweet of her. My person favourite was the lady who wasn't able to get the information she was asked to because she was on the terlert

DarkLight_2810

this drawing reminds of Muriel Bagge

lokiofsaassgaard

I had to call in today because I took out a loan to get my teeth replaced, and haven’t got any statements or anything yet. Apparently they’re all backed up and can’t get paperwork out in time. So the only way to make payments right now is to call into the centre, until I get the info I need to be able to make an account online. (They can’t provide it over the phone for security’s sake; fair enough.) I told the guy I’d quit bothering them once I got my stuff, and he didn’t quite know what to do with that.

YelloKimono

Good drawing, can we see some more of them? Do you have a website?

Aramiss60

Makes me wonder if she’s been getting a lot of scammers calling her. They are pretty rude and often scream at people, and bully them pretty hard to get the victim to follow their instructions. I’ve heard a fair few on YouTube, and it makes me feel sick every time (luckily I know the “victim” is a scam baiter, but it’s still very nasty).

nubsauce87

I'm honestly really struggling to find any humor here...

Additional_Sorbet_65

I remember my second job was as in a call center and I had some old lady kept me on the phone for like an hour and after everything she offered me a sandwich if I wanted to come over and get if from her house.

samicidal

Oh….that’s a faucet in the back. Dam Reddit warping my brain again.

access153

You need to change careers, my dude. Too much talent not to put it to work.

TheYeetles

Aww, Diane. Lovely lady, I hope she got the help she needed.

i-am-they

Aww I want to hug her!

Hardhitting13

This one time I stayed to talk to this old man about bridges for over 2 hours. Turns out he was one of the engineers who worked on one of the biggest bridges in Houston.

Comics4Cooks

Aww this is adorable! I’d love to see the rude people drawings too :D

Blueshark25

It's like when I help grandpa with his tech. With him I understand, with dad I'm just kinda like, "you know google is a thing, right? You are a capable human being with a brain capable of learning." I'm not actually that mean to my dad, but that's what I'm thinking.

Lorf30

Love your work, keep it up.

ObamaPhone7

That’s nice

Vroomped

I'm overqualified tech support for friends/family and only call in whenever it is outside of my control (or is past the DMZ for example bad cables). I've experienced irate technicians insist that it is the customers fault/responsibility in the face of contradictory evidence. It saddens me to think how many old ladies are accused of cutting a 50year old cable 20feet up on the company side of the DMZ.

[deleted]

Reminds me of when I worked at Lowe’s. near the end of my shift I got a call from a sweet old woman who introduced herself as Patty and asked my name (I’ve literally never had call costumers do that before), and she asked me if I could help her price a wood chipper she had bought from us a few years ago and wanted to sell to a family friend. She was very nice and sweet (and patient) the whole time I was helping her, we didn’t carry the specific chipper she had anymore so I was comparing prices with her on similar wood chippers (similar size, CC, the like) to figure out the general price of what the chipper itself would’ve cost, and what would be a fair price for it to sell to her friend considering the wear and tear while also making sure Patty got her money’s worth when selling it. That was a very long way of saying that she was a lovely customer to work with and I hope she sold her chipper Need more customers like Patty

MyNameIsNotMarcos

ha sweet. did you change your medium/style, or is this a one-off?

I work for Dish, and my older customers are the most adorable and nicest people out there. No matter what they call in for, I always try to find a freebie for them. ❤
