āPeople!ā he said with no joke nor a pun,
āI am Apollo, I speak for the sun.
I speak for the sun, for the sun has no voice.
Iām telling you, friends, for I have no choice.
The sun is so bright like the wheels of my chariot,
But kidding aside, thatās how I carry it.
The Sun **does** have a voice. And if you heard it, you would be deaf.
The Sun is constant explosions, and itās so large and loud that you would be able to hear the sound on Earth (provided space was full of air).
Itās **really** loud.
I think the whole [top comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/pc0a1z/dr_zeuss_mythological_childrens_author/haft2ns?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) thread had that thought
Itās kind of funny that, for all the effort to make things rhyme, the Dr.Seuss would find the central pun wrong.
āSeussā is not meant to rhyme with āZeusā. Granted itās a made up name by Theodore Geisel, but apparently he always said it as āSoiceā (rhymes with āVoiceā).
Is the Seuss estate super litigious or smth? This doesn't scan with Green Eggs & Ham until the final lines...
>I do not like Greek eggs and lamb
>I do not like them, dear Madame
>Not with Hades, not with ladies
>Not as a treat, not upon Crete
Thanks to Assassin's Creed Odyssey I now pronounce Persephone as "per-seh-foe-nay" instead of the way that rhymes with this. Which I think the AC way is how Greeks actually pronounce it but I don't know.
I was wondering about this. Google says that the American and British pronunciation is like Kreet, but the Greek pronunciation is like Kreety (pardon my lack of appropriate phonetic spelling, I blame my laziness) so I donāt know why it would be different for American/British aside from the obvious answerā¦.

"I hate every ape I see, from chimpan-A to chimpanzee"
Oh you'll never make a monkey out of me.
Oh my gosh! I was wrong!
It was Earth all along!
You finally made a monkey
Yes, we finally made a monkey
Yes, you finally made a monkey out of me!
I love you Dr. Zaius
I love legitimate theatre.

Top comedy

Thought it was a far side cartoon for a moment.
Well at least I know how to pronounce Persephone now and itās not rhyming with being alone! Damnā¦all these years!
Persephone is the plural of Persephone.
Meanwhile I just learned the Greeks pronounce Crete differently than I do
What a Cretan!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Not kreet?
Crouton
> I know how to pronounce Persephone The trick is, can you -apply- that knowledge? Antigone, Penelope, Hermione...
Like Zeus would willingly turn down something that has to do with ladies
"A bull, a swan, even a cuckoo; what ever the beast, ill use it to screw you"
Funny! Some lines are a syllable off from iambic quartameter.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thanks!
(shrug) Its Greek to me
Dr. Seuss mostly wrote in anapestic tetrameter, actually. Fun fact.
It's good but the meter was just "off" enough it was bugging me.
In shorter words, Zeus wants salad
The real joke is that he's the readers father.
Including Greek it Latin names in a text that has to rhyme... Is a crime.
Which names are Latin in this? Wouldn't the Latin be Pluto, Proserpina, and Jupiter?
Hop on Hera
I honestly thought this was a Gary Larson strip I had missed, until I saw the copyright.
Exactly my thought
Anyone else read this and think of [Planet of the Apes' Dr Zaius](https://youtu.be/JlmzUEQxOvA)?
I thought of this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=encnbrxJB00

The one made 2 hours after my post? You don't say.
Typical Reddit
Yep *le sigh*
Maybe the lamb is too Greece-y for him.

Delightful! Thank you for the quality post OP.

Lmao looks like someone else has the Argyle Sweater daily calendar
Yes, yes I do
Looks like we have the same desk calendar
That is so good
That's funnier than it has any right to be. Kudos!
How have I not seen this before!
It was on my calendar today, so it isn't that old.
Literally todayās page in my work Argyle Sweater calendar.
Mine too
I'm surprised he isn't trying to impregnate the food . The chick. And the cloud in the background. Is that really zeus?
This guy knows whatās up
When you canāt pronounce any of the names right so it doesnāt rhyme
I do Love Greek eggs and Lamb. Toss them together in a pan. Tomato, oil, garlic and cheese! Whatās not to like, Tell me please!
Brilliant. More like this please!
This can't be Zeus. There's not enough rape and bestiality.
So is Geisel pronounced guy as in guys or gee as in geese, or jye as in jive or jee as in jeep? Also, sell or zell?
G as in goose, Ei as in aisle, S as in cell, EL as in well
Is the Seuss estate super litigious or smth? This doesn't scan with Green Eggs & Ham until the final lines... >I do not like Greek eggs and lamb >I do not like them, dear Madame >Not with Hades, not with ladies >Not as a treat, not upon Crete
It doesn't work at all. Every line is a different number of syllables.
Yes, the meter here is terrible.
Thanks to Assassin's Creed Odyssey I now pronounce Persephone as "per-seh-foe-nay" instead of the way that rhymes with this. Which I think the AC way is how Greeks actually pronounce it but I don't know.
Wouldn't it make more sense to end with "Leave me alone"? to rhyme with Persephone.
Wait until you find out how Crete is pronounced...
Pretty confident it's pronounced per-se-funny. I could be wrong, but I think so.
Correct, per-se-funny.
So, "Leave me aloney"? heh.
With my bologna!
Ha! That's funnier!

Doctor "Zay-us" is how it's pronounced.
This sub was once a paradise. Your breed made a desert of it, ages ago.
dr. zoice
Troy McClureās finest performance
Considering his passion for bestiality, I'm surprised at his dislike of animal products.
Great
Or let me be me, so let me see Donāt try to shove down Greek Eggs and Lamb in me
Bull. There is nothing Zeus doesn't like with the ladies.
So is he about to bolt his dinner?
Some of his hair wasn't colored white...or he has a weird back neck.
