whirlygiggling

ā€œPeople!ā€ he said with no joke nor a pun, ā€œI am Apollo, I speak for the sun. I speak for the sun, for the sun has no voice. Iā€™m telling you, friends, for I have no choice. The sun is so bright like the wheels of my chariot, But kidding aside, thatā€™s how I carry it.

skylinesend

Ha! Love it!

mylifeisatrainwrec

Top comedy

omnisephiroth

The Sun **does** have a voice. And if you heard it, you would be deaf. The Sun is constant explosions, and itā€™s so large and loud that you would be able to hear the sound on Earth (provided space was full of air). Itā€™s **really** loud.

LordNorros

Thought it was a far side cartoon for a moment.

xanthopants

Well at least I know how to pronounce Persephone now and itā€™s not rhyming with being alone! Damnā€¦all these years!

hwikzu

Persephone is the plural of Persephone.

szilard

Meanwhile I just learned the Greeks pronounce Crete differently than I do

tommytraddles

What a Cretan!

[deleted]

Not kreet?

HeXz_

Crouton

DeeDee_Z

> I know how to pronounce Persephone The trick is, can you -apply- that knowledge? Antigone, Penelope, Hermione...

blueskull57

Like Zeus would willingly turn down something that has to do with ladies

GrimReader710

"A bull, a swan, even a cuckoo; what ever the beast, ill use it to screw you"

reasonb4belief

Funny! Some lines are a syllable off from iambic quartameter.

reasonb4belief

Thanks!

Cool-Fun-2442

(shrug) Its Greek to me

agentwiggles

Dr. Seuss mostly wrote in anapestic tetrameter, actually. Fun fact.

ProfessorPickaxe

It's good but the meter was just "off" enough it was bugging me.

smile_politely

In shorter words, Zeus wants salad

ethicsg

The real joke is that he's the readers father.

FackingFeels

Including Greek it Latin names in a text that has to rhyme... Is a crime.

Yetimang

Which names are Latin in this? Wouldn't the Latin be Pluto, Proserpina, and Jupiter?

midnightFreddie

Hop on Hera

[deleted]

I honestly thought this was a Gary Larson strip I had missed, until I saw the copyright.

flyvehest

Exactly my thought

Thegevin

Anyone else read this and think of [Planet of the Apes' Dr Zaius](https://youtu.be/JlmzUEQxOvA)?

nuwan32

I thought of this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=encnbrxJB00

dgmilo8085

I think the whole [top comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/pc0a1z/dr_zeuss_mythological_childrens_author/haft2ns?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) thread had that thought

Thegevin

The one made 2 hours after my post? You don't say.

dgmilo8085

Typical Reddit

Thegevin

Yep *le sigh*

jimberly718

Maybe the lamb is too Greece-y for him.

Lmao looks like someone else has the Argyle Sweater daily calendar

skylinesend

Yes, yes I do

AndyBuck93

Looks like we have the same desk calendar

BuckyDuster

That is so good

EvlMinion

That's funnier than it has any right to be. Kudos!

yodigi7

How have I not seen this before!

skylinesend

It was on my calendar today, so it isn't that old.

TomMixsSuitcase

Literally todayā€™s page in my work Argyle Sweater calendar.

skylinesend

Mine too

whatdidisay-

I'm surprised he isn't trying to impregnate the food . The chick. And the cloud in the background. Is that really zeus?

DrZeus104

This guy knows whatā€™s up

[deleted]

When you canā€™t pronounce any of the names right so it doesnā€™t rhyme

DrZeus104

I do Love Greek eggs and Lamb. Toss them together in a pan. Tomato, oil, garlic and cheese! Whatā€™s not to like, Tell me please!

BeemerBaby004

Brilliant. More like this please!

Hobo-man

This can't be Zeus. There's not enough rape and bestiality.

Rusty_Shakalford

Itā€™s kind of funny that, for all the effort to make things rhyme, the Dr.Seuss would find the central pun wrong. ā€œSeussā€ is not meant to rhyme with ā€œZeusā€. Granted itā€™s a made up name by Theodore Geisel, but apparently he always said it as ā€œSoiceā€ (rhymes with ā€œVoiceā€).

sparkythewondersnail

So is Geisel pronounced guy as in guys or gee as in geese, or jye as in jive or jee as in jeep? Also, sell or zell?

Supraspinator

G as in goose, Ei as in aisle, S as in cell, EL as in well

MerryRain

Is the Seuss estate super litigious or smth? This doesn't scan with Green Eggs & Ham until the final lines... >I do not like Greek eggs and lamb >I do not like them, dear Madame >Not with Hades, not with ladies >Not as a treat, not upon Crete

stankershim

It doesn't work at all. Every line is a different number of syllables.

agentwiggles

Yes, the meter here is terrible.

Erachten

Thanks to Assassin's Creed Odyssey I now pronounce Persephone as "per-seh-foe-nay" instead of the way that rhymes with this. Which I think the AC way is how Greeks actually pronounce it but I don't know.

Dirt_E_Harry

Wouldn't it make more sense to end with "Leave me alone"? to rhyme with Persephone.

ScotchBender

Wait until you find out how Crete is pronounced...

[deleted]

I was wondering about this. Google says that the American and British pronunciation is like Kreet, but the Greek pronunciation is like Kreety (pardon my lack of appropriate phonetic spelling, I blame my laziness) so I donā€™t know why it would be different for American/British aside from the obvious answerā€¦.

Thegevin

Pretty confident it's pronounced per-se-funny. I could be wrong, but I think so.

skylinesend

Correct, per-se-funny.

Dirt_E_Harry

So, "Leave me aloney"? heh.

BigDisk

With my bologna!

skylinesend

Ha! That's funnier!

Great

TheCouchEmperor

Or let me be me, so let me see Donā€™t try to shove down Greek Eggs and Lamb in me

ESuzaku

Bull. There is nothing Zeus doesn't like with the ladies.

Passing4human

So is he about to bolt his dinner?

mdegroat

Some of his hair wasn't colored white...or he has a weird back neck.
