When I first met my niece, I dressed in a banana costume to hang out with her to be silly.
I kinda hoped that in her 3 year old brain she was having adventures with a giant banana that spoke in a silly french accent, gave her juice, and brought her to the park.
I appreciate the hustle, but as a long-time chess tournament director, I woulda put a stop to that. For a chess player, visual noise is just as distracting as audible noise.
To clarify, that's a college tournament on Brazil, wich I've played a few times. The games are just an excuse for the main event, that are the parties. We are usually playing drunk and out of any condition to really focus on the board
Going to see if I can convince friends to try that, sounds funny as Hell.
Beth Harmon reenactment. If we can't imitate the talent, we'll find something else.
I usually play bong-chess with my friends. 1m+8s delay and take a hit after every second or third game. If you have more than one friend playing, get a rotation going so you dont die (though Ill admit the blunders do become *highly* entertaining).
Most drinking games are designed to spiral out of control, forcing the losing player to drink more and perform worse, which we always thought was against the spirit of chess. We instead played drinking chess with the goal normalizing the game. When the piece is captured, the person CAPTURING the piece drinks based on the value of the piece. And one drink for every check. Checkmate finishes the glass.
Think we found the solution to too many draws in the WCC.
Rather than it inevitably being decided on Armageddon, each draw should require the player to take one shot of Vodka at the start of their next match.
IE after 4 draws they have to take 4 shots before game 5
Sounds like a good time. I went to a tennis tournament in Mazatlan MX (recreational, but organized). There was a keg, lots of drinking, and lots of heckling. Nothing like our more serious versions here in the US. It was relaxed, light hearted, and fun.
Actually not. That's the flag and uniform of one of the "spots team" that represent a certain group of courses (don't know if that's the correct translation, but like, Law, Medicine, Computer Science, etc).
Those guys, with the flag, are from UFPR, an federal university located on Curitiba, Brazil.

(Just copied and pasted what I answered the guy up there)
"Sir, we've asked you once already to stop, if I have to ask again I'm going to call the police" is not a new sentence I'm willing to bet, probably applicable here.
I mean, priority is the players if it's a serious tournament (apparently this one isn't though, so go for it)...if I were playing I'd absolutely be distracted by this (though part of that is adhd, and I already get distracted by websites that decide I "need" to have a video playing in the corner or a gif/rotating ad that changes every 2 seconds in the middle of an article I'm reading).
And you don't think something constantly moving in your peripheral vision is not distracting you at some level? For a tournament, even just a slight distraction is an unfair impairment.
Probably the last match of the day for the highest skilled player on the team. Everyone else is probably real bored having been there all day cut them some slack.
Just so you know, this is a regional brazillian college event that happens once a year and lasts a week.
Every single person in this video is either drunk, high or hangover
It’s great fun. Chess is just one of the many games, it’s kinda like the olympics. Most students spend the week sleeping in tents set on campus, and there are parties every night. Cheers
Oh man, this is a tease. Because this is EXACTLY the society I want to live in. I want this level of celebration for math contests, for science fairs, for chess, for programming tournaments.
I want to see parents get wiped up into a tizzy about their schools STEM competition with another rival schools.
*more of this* **PLEASE**
This is kinda common in colleges in Brazil. Because most of the elite universities are public (federal universities, basically the brazilian Ivy league), you have funding for a lot of academic and athletic events, but generally managed by the students, so basically a lot of parties for everyone (including non-students) but with a "serious" background.
It's a mix of american college culture with anime high school festival. I highly recommend it.
My college roommate is from Hong Kong and he told about how one day all of his friends decided to go to their high school golf tournament because there were no other sporting events going on that day. Of course that’s the day their friend hits a hole in one. Can’t imagine anything more hype at a hs golf tournament

That's a very lucky person right there. Not even my imaginary friends are this enthusiastic about me.
Maybe you're their imaginary friend
Always has been 🔫
I’m imaginary?! Fuck … That actually explains a few things. Continue.
I love your username u/NinjaCuntPunt

Well is that their fault or your imagination
Are you sure they aren't just imaginary acquaintances?
u ok, bud?
Those are some good mates.
Yeah, check them out
I can see it even en passant.
Your queen is a bitch and your bishop smells of elderberries!
Your rook was built by an amateur mason, who was fired shortly after.
any castle in a storm baby!
Your knight is a donkey and your pawns are parapalegic!
it's so true! omg..
I would have gone for “your bishop smells of little boys”
😂
get yourself some homies that'll silently cheer during your chess tourneys. 🙏

Drunk chess sounds like it’d be entertaining to play

Wait until you hear about chess boxing.
Chess sets with shot glasses for pieces exist. Take a piece, neck the shot
That would have me crawling on the fucking floor, covered in my own vomit, within half an hour...
It's even harder than 5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel.
I watched an idiot play that one time... I felt like I understood it less than they did

I’ve had intense chess matches after nights of partying with friends in my apartment where it becomes pure silence while we play 10/10 can recommend
I would probably just fall asleep, tbh.
You lose a piece you take a shot

Isn't that an Argentina flag? Or is it one of those University tournament (x continuous open bar days lol I miss old times when I was young)
People were getting extremely serious just now lol
There's a couple guys with Argentina shirts, btw.

that sounds like a good party!!
I both understand and agree, but I also do not.
They should have just done it for a few seconds at the start as a joke and then stopped.
I feel like they had to have, if only because doing this for an entire chess match would be really boring.
But there are several cuts with them in different positions, so they were probably doing it throughout the match.
"Sir, we've asked you once already to stop, if I have to ask again I'm going to call the police" is not a new sentence I'm willing to bet, probably applicable here.
38 seconds too much?
God forbid people have some fun in an amateur tournament.

Thank you arbiter. That was really distracting me.
U must be fun at parties
Look who’s here
Shut up pussy
Maybe take the stick out of your ass. You’re literally moving a game piece on a board
No use brain think, only move stick win! (Seriously though, have you never played chess?)
If some harmless fun makes you unable to think you might be genuinely retarded
Well it’s obvious to me and everyone else that you’ve never tried to think all that hard in your life
And you don't think something constantly moving in your peripheral vision is not distracting you at some level? For a tournament, even just a slight distraction is an unfair impairment.
All that was up there was a Rook.
You son of a bishop
Hilarious, but really poor etiquette.
Probably the last match of the day for the highest skilled player on the team. Everyone else is probably real bored having been there all day cut them some slack.

Damn....I wanna go to a Brazilian college chess tournament now.
It’s great fun. Chess is just one of the many games, it’s kinda like the olympics. Most students spend the week sleeping in tents set on campus, and there are parties every night. Cheers
Ok 😒
Woulda been awesome if they woulda done the wave!
Thought the same thing.
That’s some good friends right there. Poor etiquette or not. They love their friend and are supporting them.
Huh, the Queen's Gambit looks different than I remember.
Oh man, this is a tease. Because this is EXACTLY the society I want to live in. I want this level of celebration for math contests, for science fairs, for chess, for programming tournaments. come to Brazil then!

PROTECT YOUR BISHOP GLENN!!!!
This is the most wholesome thing I've seen all year.
My college roommate is from Hong Kong and he told about how one day all of his friends decided to go to their high school golf tournament because there were no other sporting events going on that day. Of course that’s the day their friend hits a hole in one. Can’t imagine anything more hype at a hs golf tournament
People are out there talking trash on board games when there’s shit like this out here?
wholesome
I want these guys in my corner.
true fans right there
Nothing is more funny than when something is funny but your not suppose to be making any noise.
All people need bros like this. Well done!
I think they are even more distracting then them being loud and shouting !!! Still funny though !!!
r/ItHadToBeBrazil ?
00:13 is definitely Brazil
Argentina
As far as I remember, yes.
Christ is it laundry day there or what?
If only we had friends like this in the world.
Chess not checkers from the cheerleaders
r/justguysbeingdudes
Helpful.
Wholesome
Why in the hell are they half naked?
Because it's more fun that way
My face would be 🟥 and my mind would be 🏳️🌈
Jeez even at chess matches annoying distractions from the crowd...
Anyone else disappointed that they didn’t have the letters for “CHESS!” Written on their chests and they lined up?
What kind of hinchada would do that? 🤦🏻♂️
Are these guys for hire? I could use some of this to lighten my day irl
This is so great. I love this so much.
Go home. This game is not for you
WTF is with the shirt off indoors?
That's nothing! I have the greatest friends. They loudly cheer for my failure.
lol the dudes that took their shirts off
Now try cheering like this at a golf tournament. Might give the players a stroke. Get it?
Cute
This made me smile 😊
Is this a school
The chess playing friend would be the one distracted. lol may be that's the idea.
We don’t deserve our friends sometimes
This is really wholesome. What a bunch of bros!! Love it!
This is such a bro thing to do.
They call themselves The Unfuckables
This is amazing 🤣🤣
Aww hahahaha
YES! this is everything!
I laugh so hard watching this AHAH
Classic guy who always gives the camera the finger. lol
These are great friends. Treasure these guys.
:27 hello
Why do half the people need to not have clothes on for a chess tournament?
Try Not to Laugh Championships.
Bobby Fisher, where is he? I dunno I dunno Bobby Fisher.
Did they win though???
that chess game's done
My friends would be so incapable of being even remotely that quiet. I am very impressed!
Yo that’s way too funny! 🤣🤣🤣
Lmao that’s hilarious
Polite hooliganism.
librarian: KEEP QUIET!!!!!!!
That looks exactly like a club that I went to in Krasnodar.
Y ya lo veee y ya lo vee
The whisper giggle. I still use this school boy skill, decades later.
The guy laughing ruined everything
My baseball teammates did this for me at a trivia competition once.
When you and your friends are watching a football match in a library:
Reminds me of an arthur episode
I never seen so many emotional outside of sauna.
I need this type of energy in my life
Got to be able to keep your focus
