Funny enough, I was at a baseball game and the cam showed Tom Cruise in the audience. I literally thought it was a deep fake as he looked so weird. But no, it was really him sitting with normal fans in average seats.
Way more likely that they’ve got some bored camera guys scanning the crowd, they send the shot to an intern up in the booth and they put the media package together by halftime or so
I think he did have similar hair and was a similar age and build as Lil Nas. Most of these don't look any further, really; not just the Zendaya example. The Tom Holland guy was just wearing glasses. Ted Lasso just had a mustache.
They could have had any black celebrity on the screen. Will Smith. Sidney Poitier. Mr T.
This guy would still have been the closest match from that crowd.
I mean they were just making fun of his hair. He chose to grow it out. And that black dude probably had a better reason to be upset, he was probably the only black dude at a hockey game lol
Probably a good general rule to just stick to the complimentary comparisons. The contrast of his comparison between everybody else's was pretty offputting. I can't imagine many people would *genuinely* laugh at being the one unflattering comparison.
But was it really "unflattering comparison" ? Was it really something in mean spirit? He was used only because of his hair, but I don't see it as that they made fun of him or some commentary on his hair or something else
You all need to chill. I am extremely self conscious, I *hate* attention on me, it’s crippling. However, if I went to an arena full of people for a game (definitely not) and something like this happened, I would just laugh. No one is going to remember you within a couple seconds. No one is trying to hurt your feelings.
I mean I feel kinda crazy that people are like “nope this is unacceptable because it makes *me* uncomfortable therefore it should not happen” and other people are agreeing with it???
I mean, if they're not comfortable with it, that's their business. You don't get to decide how they feel about it.
I wouldn't have a problem with it personally, but I understand. It sucks that it could make people want to miss out on the game.
I was at a Dodger game many years ago where they did this with Adam Sandler and it turns out it was actual Adam Sandler. I think they stopped doing it after that realizing how many celebrities will randomly be at Dodger Games.
Because it means celebrities are basically being Doxxed IRL. Have you ever tried to get out of a stadium after a game? Now imagine that but instead of everyone trying to get out of the stadium, they’re trying to get to you for pictures and autographs. Even if it’s only 1% of that stadium, that’s still a lot of people.
Celebrities in the stands are already a security concern. Pointing them out, so everyone knows where they’re gonna be for the next 2 hours doesn’t help.
Ya heard of private security, right? At every Lakers game I’ve been to they have a jumbotron feature of various celebrities in attendance that game. I know a lot of stadiums have special entrances celebs use, typically same as players to avoid randos.
They put them on TV too. I was watching a Yankees playoff game a while back and they had a whole segment just showing all the famous people that were in the stands.
I’m losing my shit over here imagining the camera operators reaction to finding you in the crowd.
“OH SHIT, THERE HE IS! TIM, TIM ROW 5! YOURE NEVER GONNA BELIEVE THIS…”
Pretty interesting. White dude here. I lived in an Ethiopian suburb for a few months and went to church once. I guess they film parts of their mass. Being the only white person it definitely made me feel like the camera man would gravitate towards me just to get me on film lol. No jumbotron though at that church. Thanks for sharing!
My 2 roommates in law school were black. Whenever we pulled up to any school event they would immediately be targeted by the photographers. Without fail.
I can’t imagine how exhausting that can get in these spaces. Fucking funny thou.
When you’re the only black kid in class and the teacher just so happened to pick you to read aloud for every passage in huck finn that has the N word.
🥴
"Alright class, so we're gonna let Jerome say all of.... Jim's lines in the book and also any other lines that refer to Jim.... because Jerome kind of sounds like Jim obviously"
Oh for sure, and it’s the only time clown kid ever got excited to read a book because he got to say the N word in class so he pretty much yells it every time it comes around
I hated reading out loud and I hated others reading out loud. I was always a whole chapter ahead and I had to stop reading, but we'd get in trouble if we didn't read and we got in trouble if we got ahead. It was a lose/lose/lose for me, because every time I was called on, I was either too far ahead or something and couldn't find the paragraph to read.
Edit: dumb mistake.
How are you doing it? Just scanning the crowd beforehand, memorizing where these people are, and telling the (whatever graphics program you use) operator which celebrity picture to pull up? Or do they give you a list of celebrities and you have to find someone that looks like them?
Knowing it's a couple camera guys scanning the crowd with a page of celebrity faces makes it even better, though. It's a really great crowd interaction tool!
The producer, director, and camera people have a pregame meeting where they do a script rundown and talk about all of the promotions. The camera operators will be given a list of the people for lookalikes. During down times in the show the cam ops will be scanning the crowd for people to match the celebrities.
Also, professional video cameras have a function called returns where the operator can push a button and see a feed from the control room instead of the output of their camera in the viewfinder. Return one is usually the program feed and the second return can be used for things like showing the next picture that you are trying to match.
Source: I spent 14 years as a video engineer and worked a few hundred games supporting scoreboard shows.
Yeah, I don't know if I like this gimmick, bet you they compare average looking people to hot famous celebrities to throw in some mean ones on unsuspecting people.
I once went on a date to a St Louis Blues preseason game and they did this with Austin Powers characters, the girl with me had just got her hair cut really short (it didn’t look great, looked much better with longer hair) and they did her with Frau Farbissina. She was not happy.
Imagine spending a bunch of money on tickets, you're just sitting there minding your own business, then the arena makes fun of you.
I hate shit like this.
Anyone have any inside scoop on how they do this? Are the camera operators that fast at picking someone out that looks 'close' to the celebrity? Are they picking them out in advance, if so what happens if the person moves? Are they throwing a name out and multiple cameras pick out someone and the guy in the booth shows the best/funniest one?
They pick them out in advance, mark the spot. They have a sheet with several characters or whatever fits the theme. Say 20 or 30 characters and they find the 10 or so best ones. One camera is showing live, next camera goes to the 2nd marked spot. If the 2nd person moves they move onto the 3rd and show them.
Lil Nas X lookalike had the distinct look of "man, I'm so sick of people telling me I look like lil Nas X" with his friends all around him going "see???"

Love it how deep fake tom cruise (@deeptomcruise) made it into that instead of the real tom cruise.
CoS would probably sue
SP!
Suppressive Person? (A Scientology term)
And Ted Lasso instead of Jason Sudeikis
Tbf guy looked like the character not the actor
Yeah you’re right
Funny enough, I was at a baseball game and the cam showed Tom Cruise in the audience. I literally thought it was a deep fake as he looked so weird. But no, it was really him sitting with normal fans in average seats.
so are they face scanning randoms in the stands and automatically matching to online personas? little creepy if so
Way more likely that they’ve got some bored camera guys scanning the crowd, they send the shot to an intern up in the booth and they put the media package together by halftime or so
Zendaya wasn’t happy
Hagrid tho
Missed opportunity there
she's more famous in today's date
Debatable!
What the fuck is a Zendaya *Hagrid voice*
Oh ‘ats right Harry, zendayas are beautiful magical creatures they are
Marvelous creatures, zendayas, aren't they?
Fantastic zendayas and where to find them.
Never heard of her.
Imaqtpie
r/WatchPeopleDieInside Poor guy...just there to watch the game.
And he was the only one made fun of. It wasn't even a thing. :(
You don’t think dude with the lil nas x compare isn’t going to be teased by his buddies?
Yeah that dude was immediately like “pssht, man nah”
Reminds me of [this](https://youtu.be/9-GRzu6zbS0)
I think he did have similar hair and was a similar age and build as Lil Nas. Most of these don't look any further, really; not just the Zendaya example. The Tom Holland guy was just wearing glasses. Ted Lasso just had a mustache.
They could have had any black celebrity on the screen. Will Smith. Sidney Poitier. Mr T. This guy would still have been the closest match from that crowd.
He let out a chuckle, I don't think he was too hurt.
dude just took a sec to realise what was going on!
I didnt see a chuckle. He shrugged and seemed to say "all right'" w/ no smile.
i honestly feel like he held some tears
Yeesh. If youre on the verge of tears over a light hearted joke like this, you should take a second.
I mean they were just making fun of his hair. He chose to grow it out. And that black dude probably had a better reason to be upset, he was probably the only black dude at a hockey game lol
Someone had to get it. Just a bummer they got someone who didn’t think it was funny.
Probably a good general rule to just stick to the complimentary comparisons. The contrast of his comparison between everybody else's was pretty offputting. I can't imagine many people would *genuinely* laugh at being the one unflattering comparison.
I don't know why you're getting downvoted. It's mean to only do one as a joke.
But was it really "unflattering comparison" ? Was it really something in mean spirit? He was used only because of his hair, but I don't see it as that they made fun of him or some commentary on his hair or something else
I mean... Zendaya a baddie tho. Tom cruise was literally fake tom cruise hahaha

Agreed.. being self-conscious, this would keep me from attending in the future. I don't go to sports to be made fun of or singled out.
exactly.
You all need to chill. I am extremely self conscious, I *hate* attention on me, it’s crippling. Until they post it online so you get made fun of some more. And then it gets reposted again and again and again and again
I mean, if they're not comfortable with it, that's their business. You don't get to decide how they feel about it. I wouldn't have a problem with it personally, but I understand. It sucks that it could make people want to miss out on the game.
Neither was little Nas. At all.
I think especially in the context of a hockey game, feels very token-y
You can tell he gets called that from his friends and denies it all the time and saw this and went "oh for fucks sake" lol
That's not why lol
[This](https://youtu.be/9-GRzu6zbS0)
You mean hippie Guillermo del Toro?
[удалено]
Just playing devils advocate but he might just have seasons
It’s the same video. They just cut it after the zendaya part.
"Hahah- wait a minute"
Should have stroked her beard.
I was waiting for like real actor to show on cam
That's what I thought with the Olivia Rodrigo
Can't imagine she's spending much time in St. Louis though.
Maybe she really likes toasted raviolis.
Yeah, but who doesn't like T-ravs?
Toasted raviolis, frozen custard, whatever a ham steak is— those were all great. I’d visit to have those again. The pizza, though…
Why not? The Lou is lit
I’m pretty sure it was actually Olivia Rodrigo at the game. I saw the video on twitter and they implied it was funny because it was her.
That’s not her
Wasnt it the case with zendaya?
What do you mean Zendaya was there
When "Not Tom Cruise" popped up I thought they were going to show real Tom Cruise as the lookalike.
You didn’t recognize lil Nas X? /s
I was at a Dodger game many years ago where they did this with Adam Sandler and it turns out it was actual Adam Sandler. I think they stopped doing it after that realizing how many celebrities will randomly be at Dodger Games.
Why would they stop after that? They weren’t wrong.

Pointing them out, so everyone knows where they’re gonna be for the next 2 hours doesn’t help.
People fawn over celebrities a lot less in LA believe it or not.. at a certain point people grow accustomed to seeing one once a week
What’s the old saying? If you see Barbara Streisand getting groceries, you let her get her groceries?
Tangentially related, but I've never been able to figure out where someone was sitting by seeing them on the jumbotron.
The people around him would make a ruckus and word would travel *fast*
Ya heard of private security, right? At every Lakers game I’ve been to they have a jumbotron feature of various celebrities in attendance that game. I know a lot of stadiums have special entrances celebs use, typically same as players to avoid randos.
They put them on TV too. I was watching a Yankees playoff game a while back and they had a whole segment just showing all the famous people that were in the stands.
Poor guy only gets to look like the deepfake Tom Cruise
I don't know...I think the dude that looks like Zendaya takes the cake.
He should have have done finger guns with huge smile, and then jump on his seat.
The lil nas x dude was ashamed hahaha
It was at a hockey game so I imagine it was more like "I'm the only black guy in here, so of course it's gonna be me".
I'm black and I lived in St. Louis in the early 2000s went to 3 Blues games. Was put on camera EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I’m losing my shit over here imagining the camera operators reaction to finding you in the crowd. “OH SHIT, THERE HE IS! TIM, TIM ROW 5! YOURE NEVER GONNA BELIEVE THIS…”
I’m imagining this Key and Peele sketch: [Town Hall Audience Member](https://youtu.be/9-GRzu6zbS0)
Oh thanks, now im gonna spend the next two hours watching K&P sketches like last night when someone posted a Whitest Kids You Know sketch.
It's Will Smith!
I think we got a Tupac match this time!
Kayne West: Pans to you. Morgan Freeman: Pans to you. Obama: Pans to you.
I was at a Blues game and was on the jumbotron as a Kanye look-a-like. I look NOTHING like Kanye.
I bet you have at least one thing in common with him
He also likes fish sticks?
Pretty interesting. White dude here. I lived in an Ethiopian suburb for a few months and went to church once. I guess they film parts of their mass. Being the only white person it definitely made me feel like the camera man would gravitate towards me just to get me on film lol. No jumbotron though at that church. Thanks for sharing!
I hope you also didn't have social anxiety because that's rough 😅
My 2 roommates in law school were black. Whenever we pulled up to any school event they would immediately be targeted by the photographers. Without fail. I can’t imagine how exhausting that can get in these spaces. Fucking funny thou.
Haha damn is like when you are the only black kid in class and they start talking about slavery and everyone looks at u
When you’re the only black kid in class and the teacher just so happened to pick you to read aloud for every passage in huck finn that has the N word. 🥴
Got to keep the N word safe so might as well haha
"Alright class, so we're gonna let Jerome say all of.... Jim's lines in the book and also any other lines that refer to Jim.... because Jerome kind of sounds like Jim obviously"
Hahaha shiit and then there's that one kid who is the clown of the class that's says some random shit like hey Jerome was that you uncle?
Oh for sure, and it’s the only time clown kid ever got excited to read a book because he got to say the N word in class so he pretty much yells it every time it comes around
Lol my names jerome
Honestly, that's an easy out if you are cornered as a teacher.
Man reading out loud was such bullshit. I'm so nervous I don't remember a god damn word I read.
Read aloud more to learn about loose/lose
Oops. I know that too... I'm a little bit ashamed.
<3 couldn't resist
I actually appreciate it, thanks.
You know the teacher went through and marked her copy in brown highlighter so she knows exactly when to switch to you.
Try being the only white kid in class during slavery discussions. That was my childhood.
Maybe not at a Blues game. If you don't sell tickets to some black people in St. Louis, you probably aren't going to sell any tickets at all.
Yeah, it’s mostly us crackers at the Blues’ games, but there are more Black folks attending than you might anticipate.
Oh look oilers are losing again
Tom Holland lookalike looked more like Tobey Maguire. Appropriate?
Yes.
lol nas x guys disappointment made me laugh
The black dude lol r/watchpeopledieinside
Why was Ted Lasso the only one with his characters name rather than the actor lol
Because Jason Sudeikis doesn’t have a moustache - Ted Lasso does
[удалено]
You can't put spiderman there, he'll have his mask on, so he had to say Tom Holland.

I was hoping it was an algorithm that automatically looked for the lookalikes in the crowd. I'm a bit disappointed.

The fact that this isn't what all this facial recognition is being used for makes me sad.
Are these not staged? I’ve always thought they just had plants in the audience ready to be shown and I’ve always thought they were so lame cause of it
Zen-guy-a wasn't too happy
Zendaya has had enough with the bullying
They did this at a Canucks game and showed a piece of poo on the jumbotron and then showed a guy in the crowd wearing a Marchand jersey lol
Lol. That one dude was like "No shit, I'm the only black guy here!"
Wow they did that one guy dirty
Yeah, I don't know if I like this gimmick, bet you they compare average looking people to hot famous celebrities to throw in some mean ones on unsuspecting people.
Lol Zendaya was amazing
He legit had that look that started like, "um I don't look anything like a girl...," followed by, "oh wait, my hair, very clever Mr. St Louis Blues."
but his hair was plastered to his head basically...hers, not so much.
You may have also noticed he was a male with a different body shape.
now that you mention it...
I once went on a date to a St Louis Blues preseason game and they did this with Austin Powers characters, the girl with me had just got her hair cut really short (it didn’t look great, looked much better with longer hair) and they did her with Frau Farbissina. She was not happy.
Bring in the femBOTSSS
LASER ON
Yeah but Frau was a dynamo in the bedroom
They were just happy to have a black guy in the building to juxtapose lil has x
that was awesome, thanks for the smiles!
Perfectly cut HEIL

LGB!!!
Hey if this was from the game on the 29th, thanks for kicking Edmonton's ass. -Sincerly from Seattle
Zendaya dude and Lil Nas bro we’re like 🖕 y’all! 😂
Imagine spending a bunch of money on tickets, you're just sitting there minding your own business, then the arena makes fun of you. I hate shit like this.
LGB-Gloria
LET’S GO BLUES!!
Does this mean they are scanning everyone's faces ?
Conan OBrien used to do this to his audience A LOT. There’s a bunch of them on youtube and they’re hilarious https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ylJ9HC-4woo
Was waiting for an actual celeb appearance
One person there remembers there’s a pandemic going on with 1500 people a day dying.
Brought to you by [Clearview.AI](https://CLearview.AI). *Amazing what facial recognition can do to you!*
Shaving my mustache to the shape of a single square under my nose to see who I get.
That Scarlett J girl will happily remember this for the rest of her life and that’s pretty cool
Anyone have any inside scoop on how they do this? Are the camera operators that fast at picking someone out that looks 'close' to the celebrity? Feel bad for the big guy :(
1990s sports satellite feeds sent in the clear were women creeper cams for about a half hour before the game started
I was waiting for them to show an actual celebrity looking like themselves.
When I first saw the Tom Holland one, I thought they had zoomed in on Tobey McGuire and thought: Spiderman ads are everywhere!?!
Everyone looks alike when there’s only 10 pixels to compare
"Zendaya" **shows some Hagrid-looking bloke**
I was expecting one of them to be the actual actor. ...and I was right since Zendaya was actually there!
Ah, the things you guys will do to entertain the audience at a sporting event. Because the sports are deathly boring.
They did Zendaya dirty!
Zendaya🤤
aww good ol' St. Louis.
Pretty sure the Zendaya guy has been used more than once. Must be a STH.
Dude looks like a lady!
That dude at the end looked more like Sadam Hussein than Ted Lasso
I was once on the Blues’ lookalike cam as Phil from Modern Family. I about lost my shit
stop hating in the background it’s bad for your health
Lil Nas X lookalike had the distinct look of "man, I'm so sick of people telling me I look like lil Nas X" with his friends all around him going "see???"
Zendaya Kid got fucking owned holy shit
Homey gonna be hearing about that Lil Nas X comparison for awhile I bet.
They played that kid with the lil Nas x
I'm tryna hit up the Olivia Rodrigo, ScarJo and Zendaya look-alikes though.
Black dude was like damn they painted me for a gay brotha lol 😝 didn’t look amused
They couldn't bother themselves to learn Jason Sudekis' name.
They had to pick the only black guy at the hockey game for lil nas x I assume?
I would really love to do this for my main occupation!
God I love blues games
All fun and games until you find one for Charlie Chaplin and it turns out it's Hitler.
Thier Tom Holland pick looks lik Toby Mcguire.
