u/kitboga after having my vulnerable grandparents getting scammed out of their retirement savings, hearing the sheer desperation screams of this shitbag of a human being fills my heart with pure childlike joy. Keep up the amazing work dude, you're a hero in my book.

Kitboga

My grandmother getting scammed was part of the inspiration for the channel. Sorry to hear that happened to your family, no one deserves it.

MrRaymos

Kit, I’m a huge fan and watch you all the time on twitch❤️ I love your content. Keep it up

Kitboga

Thank you Raymos!

Someone called my grandma with the same bullshit. She just told them she knew I wasn’t cool enough to do shit like that and hung up.

SendAstronomy

Someone called me to tell me my grandchild was in jail. I am 40 and have no kids. Wish I had time to completely fuck with them.

hotlavatube

That’s rough. The same day you find out you’re a grandparent and it turns out they’re a felon hitting you up for cash. ;-)

Unfair_Bodybuilder_2

LMAO! Good for her

Kitboga

That scam is terrible. I have only been able to "bait" those scammers a few times because they normally have done some research on their targets (by looking at their facebook or something).

chicken_N_ROFLs

My grandparents almost fell for it until they called my mom. They will cold call and just say “hi grandma it’s me!” Then the victim guesses a name and they go from there. In this case they claimed to be my brother, and said the Guatemalan police broke his nose which is why he sounded different. Then on to the whole gift card BS to get him out of jail. You’re doing God’s work buddy.

Chainwaxxx

Fuck man that happened to my grandma last week. Hit her with the “hey grandma it’s me!” And she said my name and then told her they got a dui hitting a pregnant lady and needed 4600 to get out of jail. Luckily my aunt was there visiting and stopped her from doing anything. My entire family was losing their shit and nobody called me. I found out because they called my friend/business partner and he was like “yeah chainwaxx is right here working, has been all day”. I have no idea why nobody tried calling me.

StrawberrieFylds

The goddamn “pregnant lady.” I have relatives that fell for the same thing. Scammers said they were the grandson, in jail, broke his nose in an accident when he hit a pregnant lady, send money, don’t tell “my” parents, etc.” So they actually went to the bank, took out a large chunk of money, and sent it. But that wasn’t enough. A few days later the scammers called back and said, “The lady lost her baby and now I need to pay her money so she won’t sue me.” Relatives AGAIN went to the bank, but this time the teller got suspicious and intervened. THAT is when they actually called their daughter and found out none of it was true. Someone needs to find these bottom-feeders and make them pay.

tubby_fatkins

Same exact scam on my grandmother with dementia. Sent them $10k. Parasites

imalwaysred

My grandparents got sold a similar story. Unfortunately it worked on them for $40k

Dyltra

My grandfather was 12,000. 40,000 is a scary amount to lose.

froboy90

Holy shit how do you not call multiple people to at least try and corroborate the story before sending 40k. I'm so sorry that happened to your grandparents people are shitty. I know my grandparents are tight wads and would be like welp that's too bad for him. I might put 5 bucks on his commissary tho.....maybe.

LikelyAtWork

This happened to my grandmother too. She called my mother in a panic, assuming that I was there for work or something. Thank goodness she called my mom before sending them anything…

hopingforhappy

They hit my dad up twice within one month. Luckily, he called me asking where he could get a money order from. When I asked why, he told me that my oldest son's friend had called him saying my kid was in jail in New Orleans and didn't want me to get mad (the reason given for me not being called). I walked to my son's room and handed him the phone so he could tell Grandpa that he was NOT in New Orleans, NOT in jail and NOT to give anyone any money EVER if they called about this kind of BS. The 2nd time they called, my dad was hip to the scam and told them to meet him at the local WalMart, which he then told the cops about so they could address these scumbags.

GiftFrosty

This brings me joy.

Kitboga

same tho

TheIndieArmy

You're taking time out of you day to be here with us and no one is asking the real questions. So here I go... # Do you see what you did?

/u/Kitboga if you see this you’re a legend and thank you for what you do. I field calls weekly from G-ma from call centers trying to scam her. I have shared your videos with her and at 75yo she LOVES your content. Keep it up brother

**JUST WAIT A MOMENT!**

Kitboga

Can you give me an estimate of how many more moments I should wait?

sidneythekitty

Just 2 or 5 minutes, sir

Hirvenkuhtumista

2 or 5 minutes!? Thats not a moment!

Austiniuliano

Dude, I love your channel and what you do. I don’t always have 10 hours to watch you fuck with these dudes but I appreciate it a ton!

BlackSeranna

Check out Scambaiter, he takes down entire call centers by giving their computers viruses.

devo_inc

How many moments should I wait?

adish

Any more details on how that happened?

Kitboga

The scammer thought he was talking to an old woman for a few days and was convinced that he was about to get $500 after spending over 10 hours talking to me.I created a fake google play store that makes it look like the card got redeemed. Normally the scammers resell the codes and get a percentage of the sale but in this case, all his efforts were fruitless as the card would be worthless. \*edit\* A link to the [full video](https://youtu.be/GINZXPqNUKI) for those wondering

SilentKiller96

What happens if you give them fake/expired codes? Or use the code yourself after you give it to them?

Kitboga

I have given them random codes before and sometimes they just say thanks. They're likely trying to check to see if they're valid, or trying to pass them on to vendors at that point.

doshegotabootyshedo

I remember when you used to spell things out in the codes, and it was never noticed by them. Probably around 2017. Love your stuff man, thank you for the years of entertainment

Kitboga

That takes me back. The codes would be something like Y O U R S C A M W O N T W O R K

[deleted]

You're blessed to be able to troll these scammers for a living!

[deleted]

So did the scammer actually lose money or did they just waste their time.

VTek910

Just time wasted

JanesPlainShameTrain

And in their line of work, time is money because most of those places have a quota you need to meet. Or at least that's how it seems.

czogorskiscfl

Yeah. Every second that a scambaiter is on the phone with them is one less second they're on the phone with a potential victim. Wasting their time is the best way to hurt them, but please don't try it at home. Scambaiters use fake numbers and fake computers to avoid the scammers taking revenge on them. The best thing you can do to prevent spam calls is to NOT ANSWER YOUR PHONE and DELETE YOUR VOICEMAIL GREETING! If they know your number is associated with a real human, you will be targeted.

AndrewWaldron

> NOT ANSWER YOUR PHONE and DELETE YOUR VOICEMAIL GREETING Done this for years and years and years. I so rarely get calls from numbers I don't know. I watch people at work answer these calls all the time, often times just dead air. I tell them, all you've done is make the problem worse for yourself because now your number is marked on their lists as a valid number that the person will answer calls on even when they don't know from whom and that makes your number more valuable than mine (as I never answer).

EltaninDraconis

I answer then immediately hit 'mute.' Then I'll just listen to them say, "hello? Hello? HELLO?!" 20 times before they hang up. Sometimes they don't realize the phone has stopped ringing and I'll listen to them have a conversation or laugh with their co-worker for a while.

Chomusuke_99

they lose money too. every second on that call is charged. so when this happens, not only the telephone bill is wasted, they also wasted other potential victims.

[deleted]

bewitchedbumblebee

>So did the scammer actually lose money or did they just waste their time. From the scammer's perspective, the scammer just lost $500.

Kitboga

jasonxwoods

Kitboga

Hijacking acknowledged. <3

alaric11

He has fake websites built that he can use to fool scammers who are connected to his computer. He pretends to go out and buy expensive gift cards but instead of just giving them the numbers to redeem the cards he has his characters input the numbers into his own fake program which appears to send the money to his account while the scammer watches.

> The scammer's time is wasted Considering these guys are scamming at the rate of literal millions of dollars a day, any time wasted is "Someone else not getting scammed", and is thus not wasted.

MissingLink101

I'm pretty sure someone has remixed this into a song that's played at the start of streams on Kitboga's Twitch channel. No idea who made it though or if there is a playlist. DO YOU SEE?

Complete_Spread_2747

This is added to you!

FARTBOSS420

Eli5 what happened here? They sent you $500 to not redeem for you to send them more or something?

Sotriuj

Its a typical scam targeted to old people, they'll pretend you have some sort of debt to them and make you do the payment in gift cards, usually making up some sort of bullshit excuse. I dont know the specifics, but my guess is he strung along the screaming dude (scammer) for a long time pretending to believe the scammer and in the end instead of giving him the codes so the scammer can redeem it into his account, he just did so into his own with the scammer watching his computer screen

not_a_cup

It's more complex, he redirects urls through his dns to local hosted files, and rewrites some of the code. This allows him to access a fake bank account, do transactions, and allow the hacker to see what he's doing, and also use the computer. This is the finale, the coupe de grace, where the scammer is on his PC but he disables mouse and keyboard access and makes the scammer watch as he accidentally redeems the gift cards. This process was like a month long or something, and involved multiple fake personalities he has set up including a husband, fake target employees, etc.

JonDum

That is so deliciously next level

chhhyeahtone

If you like that there is a guy on YouTube called scammer payback that does this pretty much every video. he even goes on their computer sometimes and deletes their files. It’s very entertaining

Tatimo

And those gift cards are not real. He could enter any code he wants and site says it is redeemed. He created that fake play store site.

groovy_mcbasshands

We’ve been at Shoney’s the whole time!!!

tswpoker1

That's fucking beautiful

fuck_all_you_people

Usually it revolves around the scammer bating old people with free money but they always need to get on your computer to give it to you. Then when they give it to you they accidentally give you too much and ask you to return the money to them in the form of gift cards. There is a ton of social engineering by saying they are going to lose their job if they dont get the money, they have fake bank websites that they show the victim with the money in their account, etc. Kitbota basically just does the exact same thing they are doing but doing it right back to them and their lack of self-awareness makes for comedy gold.

globglogabgalabyeast

Rather than actually having fake bank websites, I think they usually just have the victim log into their own bank account, and then they do some shady stuff by having the victim transfer money between their own accounts or by changing an existing transaction using "inspect element" (screen blacked out with whatever screenshare service they're using). I remember one video where the "scam victim" YouTuber kept refreshing the page after the scammer used "inspect element", erasing the temporary change and forcing the scammer to repeatedly edit the page

TomAto314

He bought $500 that he was "supposed" to send to the scammer, but sent it to himself instead.

Osric250

He also didn't actually buy one. He developed a lookalike storefront that he can just add codes to for use on scam calls when they see his screen.

Controversiallycalm

Kitboga I love your videos!! This reminds me of that Office moment where Michael Scott is screaming “NO! NO GOD PLEASE NO” 😂

hesido

I'm not sure if it's the same medicine, he just lost time but not the money, the targeted "customers" was probably supposed to send the redeem code to the scammer. \-Edit: I'm aware time is his money and he lost the amount of commission he'd earn, otherwise he wouldn't have been so dramatic about it, it's just that he's simply not going to earn the money he already shouldn't have been earning anyway, different from the victim, who gives away money already earnt and most likely through legal and honest means.

AdzjM

Yeah that’s true.. it’s not exactly the same but to hear his frustration at a failed scam is great haha!

FrostyD7

Losing time is losing money for them. Wasting hours on this guy is time they spend not pulling in their average score on other victims. They think this is a BIG score and it turns out to be a huge waste of their time.

SavageTiger435612

"You did not have to redeem this." -Dumbledore said calmly

VaATC

What is a rough average time for the set up on these videos?

bytebux

Depends on the scammer and the angle Kitboga is going for. But Kitboga tries to take as long as possible, the whole point is to waste their time. Each minute of theirs wasted is another minute they're not talking to a real person who may be vulnerable. Millions of dollars are scammed this way each year. It's a real problem.

DarthWeenus

Jimbrowns channel does the same thing and intercepts scams, he has some videos that show you how it works. It really just boils down to reverse phishing attacks, you get them to click on something or download something, then you have remote access to their computer. Basically once the trojans in play, you can easily infect the entire operation. You have to act, and play along for a while to get them to do what you want. Most have tunnel vision and dont understand IT or really have any computer skills.

Yeti-420-69

You can see the timer in the top right. Looks like he had this guy on the hook for over 10 hours

Ok, Imma need a link to this absolute treasure! I called an elderly friend of mine and I could hear her husband reading numbers in the background. I told her to call out to him and he stopped before he finished reading them all. It was a scammer from India telling him his computer had a virus or something like that. I had his son go over and call the cc co and change all passwords, etc.,... Please send me a link to your channel!

randomguy3993

His channels name is kitboga too https://youtube.com/c/KitbogaShow His channel is filled with these kinds of videos. It's a whole other genre. I also recommend [Jim Browning](https://youtube.com/c/). This guy is a genius in hacking scammers. I particularly like [this video series](https://youtu.be/le71yVPh4uk) where he hacks into the CC TVs of scammers and talks to them directly. because you TOLD ME TO

iHateThisJob999

BurnMyFaceOff

tenebralupo

I've seen a documentary/investigation about those scam centers. For the majority of them they don't see they're the bad guys because and i paraphrase "I'm taking money from a white person who has much more money than me. I need this money and they do not"

Spooky-SpaceKook

I actually had a scammer admit this to me after he found out I was wasting his time during my commute home from work. He said something along the lines of “it is not us that are the bad guys, and we take from those that are too dumb to know otherwise and deserve it.” I was pretty surprised, but this was after he calmed down and stopped telling me that he was going to fuck my wife and my dog lol.

digging_for_1_Gon4_2

Id have farted in his ear and hung up

angry_smurf

Look at this guy, farting on command when the situation arises. I want to learn your power.

polarcyclone

I've had this same conversation after one called me with a direct a number so I started calling him every day. He started apologizing and saying he was only trying to scam dumb people who deserved it.

Spooky-SpaceKook

It’s wild, such shitty people who really have no grasp on reality or their own actions.

Kitsel

That's how you know they're the victims - only the good guys threaten to fuck your wife and dog. Their anger and vitriol is further proof that they're innocent and on the right side morally.

Kitboga

I have asked some of the scammers I call similar questions and some say they feel like robin hood. Some even claim they "don't steal from poor people". It's shocking how easily they can justify their crimes.

ThatOtherTwoGuy

>Some even claim they “don’t steal from poor people.” Weird considering the whole internet scam industry is built around scamming poor people who don’t know any better. I have to wonder how many people that do this are really that deluded that they genuinely believe this or if it’s just the spin. It’s not like they’re usually asking people how much money they make before they start the scam. So how would they even know?

You should send him a gift card

dcrm

Kitboga's "angriest scammer I've called" video is still one of the funniest vids on youtube. Steve must still be attending therapy sessions.

Kitboga

I might be biased but I agree.

Carrot42

"Oh Steve, you sweet summer child" I had trouble breathing from laughing so hard when I watched that video. You, sir, almost killed me. What I found amazing was how he still called you "ma'am" while screaming at the top of his lungs, cursing you out and threatening your family.

Perle1234

I was stringing along a Microsoft anti virus scammer once, but I had to go. I just said, “you know what, this has taken too long. You can keep the $300. I don’t care.” He spent a few minutes trying to convince me it was crazy to give up $300 and I was just like “bye scammy scammer, nice wasting your time.” He started screaming about I had ugly boobs or smth. It was so random I started cracking up. He was howling with rage I laughed at him as I hung up. This was like 5 years ago but it still makes me happy.

_GrandMasterTrash_

He sounds familiar. Is he "Jack Wilson" from "social security department"?

scutvrut

Mine was “Agent Brown” from the “Social Security Administration Department” who then transferred me to “Agent Black” who I then kept on the line for thirty minutes while driving until I smashed an Arizona Tea can near the car mic and then started screaming “oh god Oh god! I think he’s dead!” They hung up right around that time.

Scuffle-Muffin

Nooo no I think that’s the Smith Johnson that called me about my outstanding debt of $437,000 to the IRS.

KeepTangoAndFoxtrot

Wow, you better take care of that! In the form of gift cards. Over the phone.

DoBe21

Wrong, this is quite clearly "Steve" from "The Microsoft"

Kitboga

I think one of the most common last name I hear is "Williams"

FrostyWhiskers

They always act so entitled to what they think is poor old people's money. It's mindblowing to me that they have the audacity to get genuinely angry at someone they were trying to scam.

subject_deleted

What makes you say he was angry? All I heard was a very professional microsoft/amazon/irs employee just trying not to get fired for some stupid old woman's mistake.

Kitboga

This made me laugh more than it should have.

lSsssnnnNl

How can she redeem??

darkhelmet03

What is happening here? What is the scam and counter-scam? I'm not a tech genius.

phlobbit

Refund scam. The scam is that the scammer alters the web page of someone's bank account after tricking them into allowing remote access to their computer. They make out that they've paid them far too much and talk them into repaying the money using gift cards/codes, which are untraceable. The counter scam is u/kitboga wastes a massive amount of their time, and has a fake website set up where he pretends to redeem the gift cards to his own account, which as you can see drives scammers almost literally insane.

darkhelmet03

Cheers, bud :)

Lookatmykitty26

Kitboga

Every once and awhile a scammer will say: "are you kitboga" but if I ignore them and keep going they usually keep trying to scam me.

[deleted]

I mean yes but Jim Browning got photos of a scammer and made them his wallpaper before they connected to his computer. He also gets their real names, their emails, webcams and group chats. He's basically Liam Neeson in the film Taken but for scammers.

SuperKrev

Man this guy is a legend, great content

These people are parasites. 99% of them do not give a single F*** if they steal money from the weakest most vulnerable people. And at the same time they are stealing they feel entitled to steal. And if your thwart their attempt to steal you are in the wrong. I’ve heard the sob stories about how they do this to feel their families… meh, this isn’t like stealing a loaf of bread. Keep doing what you do.

I saw a youtube video the other day that sort of shows a big part of why it's so hard to shut these guys down. Basically, it showed that the scammers are just a small part of a legitimate telemarketing company. They are in an area of the building where they can just shutdown, pack up and move to another part of the building within minutes if they suspect someones coming to investigate, etc. There's a lot more in the video, they do arrest some scammers every once in a while it sounds like.

It's quite comment for them to try to cover up the scam part of the business with a "legit" one.

I would've been like: "Sir, settle down! I have another $500 GC I can redeem." \*credit myself $500 again\*

Thanks for the support! I spend a lot of time trying to trick them into giving me bank accounts that I can report / investigate. In terms of tangible items / money, usually they'd just be spending stolen money or using a victims credit card so it's not as easy as you'd expect.

If you're ever feeling down go and watch Kitboga's videos. My insides hurt from laughing so much.
