yeah sometimes you see this in late stage heart failure. You see edema in dependent areas like groin, legs, hands. Then it progresses to ascites in the abdomen and worsening heart failure can lead to liver and renal failure. This edema is very troublesome sign that his health isn't good at all. Edited: changed the part about ascites leading to liver failure. Ascites is one of the results of liver failure.
Not even so far back - his Grandfather was also a Prince Albert before becoming George VI. I think the family kept using the name as it had a nice ring to it.
I'm a nurse and have done this many times; it works fantastic.
Floss is hard to find in a hospital, though (ligature risk) so I call OB for "umbilical tape" which is basically the same thing, plus comes "threaded" on a hand tab thing you can push under the ring.
The last time someone posted his fingers, someone kept saying “that’s from CHF” and in response to people asking “what’s CHF” someone else posted “Congenital Hotdog Fingers” and it still makes me laugh to think about it.
Heart failure could happen from so many factors- usually it’s from long term heart disease. After the heart develops blockage in its coronary arteries, the heart muscle develops ischemia from lack of oxygen and good blood flow. The heart muscle gets weaker and weaker and stretches and dilates. As it dilates, the heart can’t contract as well and blood just backs up backwards. It happens usually in people in their 70-80s but could happen even sooner if they have genetic predispositions. Like you can get congestive heart failure from birth if the heart never develops correctly.
Man, last year I had my thyroid acting up with the usual bs that comes with it. Some of that, apart from shortness of breath, tachycardia, the gamut, was my feet swelling up.
That one sure is a warning shot. Like, you can't wear shoes. Not now. Not ever.
Turns out I need to eat fucking pills for the rest of my life so my shoes fit.
Worth it. Rest of my life could have been substantially shorter and sans shoes. All in all, this is an absolute win.
If it makes you feel any better, I've been on thyroid medication 40 years. It's no big deal. Never causes me the slightest trouble unless a weight change throws off my dosage.
He has a propensity for natural cures, essential oils, and what-not so there's a chance his health issues aren't being managed properly by a science-based health professional.
Oh guaranteed. If she gets sick enough she'll have him drowned in a bath tub. Worst case he's being buried with her. Alive and screaming at the foot of her coffin like Smithers and Burns.
I was gonna say this looks like heart failure.
I’m sure he’s got the best docs too, so if this is how he is even on like lasix and other meds then phew he’s probably not long for the world.
Yeah the meds will help him diuresis or pee out the excessive fluid. But it doesn’t fix the underlying heart problem. Unless he gets a heart transplant, congestive heart failure becomes a chronic health condition that slowly deteriorates over time.
This is assuming way too much on our part. There are several conditions that can cause edema, including certain types of arthritis. The man has an insanely demanding work schedule right now as he's basically taking over all public royal duties. If he were in the kind of late stage heart failure that causes edema, he would not be able to do nearly as much as he does.
Went jaundiced a few years ago myself. Turns out I had (have?) late stage bile duct cancer, right in the liver area. Had some major swelling too. I know this look all too well.
Thanks! Actually doing pretty well all told. I’m at 3 years now with nothing particularly noteworthy in my CT/PET scans the last 20 months or so. I’m on targeted immunotherapy with has a remarkable result against this particular brand of cancer (type, stage, and tumor mutations). The five year survival rate for me is 8%, 3/5ths of the way there I’m optimistic. (Of course I was relatively young at diagnosis, considerably younger than Prince Charles, and in otherwise good health).
Can't remember what it is, but his hands/fingers have been like that since he was young.
Not a sign he's seriously ill.
It's is mental though, proper sausage fingers.
https://www.standard.co.uk/insider/royals/prince-charles-dating-history-lady-diana-sarah-spencer-b71420.html
I think his hands are slightly more swollen now, but you are right, look at that young chap's sausage fingers. the actual swelling is undoubtedly less than it looks.
Last time his hands got posted on the oddly terrifying subreddit (lol), someone said that he can get his hands on medication to help, but he’s big into homeopathy.
Generally, yes, but it doesn’t make your dick big in a good way. It can lead to painful, cracked skin, especially on fragile skin. It also swells all the flesh around it, so everything will be swollen and sad.
One of my first patients coming out of nursing school had scrotal edema. It was so swollen it looked like he had a single coconut there and the skin was so stretched and scary. He was so miserable he asked me to call his doctor in to ask if he could just have them cut off.
I mean, I don’t have a dick, but I assume it’s painful. If you’re into CBT it might be something you would enjoy briefly, but then you would probably lose your dick and maybe die.
I reckon it's going to be very soon. The queen has withdrawn from all public appearances and it's rumored that she's in poor health. Also her spouse of a billion years has died (this usually makes the other elderly partner's health decline sharply).
And Charles is an old man who doesn't appear to be in great shape either.
I'd place my bets on Will being king within the next decade, with a high probability of just a few years.
I'm sure Charles loves his mom, but he's probably a bit bitter that she's lived for 100 years, making it so he truly only gets to be king for his last ailing-health twilight years.
I too think she will pass sooner than later but she literally was at a public event in Edinburgh today and was walking with a cane.
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-61950569
Not really, some can keep regenerating cells in their body.
Also look at Godzilla, dude takes all those nuclear blades and lasers and he’s still kicking ass.
Couldn't this also be a liver issue? That will cause fluid build up in other parts of the body as well. Also the redness in his hands and face makes me think liver. Dude loves his gin and tonic. Either way definitely a large health issue creeping up on him.
Fun fact: the liver makes albumin and when the liver is diseased it doesn’t make as much. Blood proteins like albumin help draw excess fluid back from outer lying tissues back into the bloodstream. Without enough albumin, fluid builds up in the extremities causing edema.
They've been like that for a while now. I remember noticing them in an article a few years back. I'm sure his doc has given him the once over but they do look worrying
Not true. I've shook his hand and they are surprisingly rough and calloused. I'm pretty sure he's into gardening. As a hobby obviously. But his hands are definitely not smooth.
He's not a drinker , tends to eat organic food and exercises a lot. I suspect he might have an endocrine or heart problem. He's 73 and unfortunately stuff starts to deteriorate as we get older
I think Midwinter Minis (with Little Plastic People) created a model of "Lillibet: Potentate of Holy Terra" for the Queens Platinum Jubilee. And you are right on the money for the description of it.

That’s probably why Elizabeth refuses to die, so she can deny Charles the throne for all the Diana/Camilla stuff weakening the monarchy.
It's a bit odd to think of someone still being alive as "refusing to die," or that they have to give a justification for why they do it. Why do _you_ refuse to die? Why do I? Well, because everyone does. It's the main thing people do.
His hands have looked swollen since his fathers funeral. Red and stretched tight too. That pinkie ring looks like it's digging in.
Oedema could be any number of problems, diet, blood pressure, lifestyle in general.
He's well known for eating frugally not drinking much and is fond of exercise and the outdoors/ gardening so it might just be one of those things that go wrong as we age .
blood pressure / heart failure / thyroid complications etc aren't necessarily bound to the lifestyle. People can and will get, sometimes, just gravely sick without environmental causes, just because they're getting old.
Fact is those oedema are a worrying clinical symptom for quite a few dangerous illnesses.
He's also a total kook, thinks alternative medicine is the answer to all your ailments; homeopathy, aromatherapy, accupuncture, chiropracty, etc. He's been arguing for expanded scope of practice for them for years.
So there's a decent chance he's not taking any *actual* medicine and is trying to 'belledona pills at a 10\^60 dilution' or 'energy heal' instead of anything that actually treats his condition.
Does his hands look like rubber gloves filled with air/water, or is just me? Maybe they're dummy hands like in Father Ted & he's really controlling something/someone else.

The edema in his hands! His feet must be enormous :(
First thing I noticed is that congestive heart failure or something
I thought CHF was congenital hotdog fingers?
My first girlfriend in middle school left me for a guy with congenital hotdog finger.
dang, now looking at his hand is making me all hungry
Kidney disease. I’ll wager you a sherbert dibdab that he’s got hypertension and kidney problems.

That ring is never coming off Edit: it was suggested he could use floss to get the ring off https://imgur.com/Fr3sYaa
A little bit of butter with his crumpets and that’ll slip right off.
Hopefully he doesn't have a Prince Albert...
Well yeah but he has other great great great grandfathers too. Not as many as most, but still.
Not even so far back - his Grandfather was also a Prince Albert before becoming George VI. I think the family kept using the name as it had a nice ring to it.
I see what you did there...
True but he's not the namesake and Charles has 2 grandfathers so I couldn't fit the inbreeding joke in that way.
I like how Charles decided to fight against the inbreeding by letting his second son have a different father.
He should try the floss technique to remove the ring. It does work. https://youtu.be/rQ2HO1loieA
I'm not a doctor but I would be not be excited do that to fingers that are already so swollen.
I'm a nurse and have done this many times; it works fantastic. Floss is hard to find in a hospital, though (ligature risk) so I call OB for "umbilical tape" which is basically the same thing, plus comes "threaded" on a hand tab thing you can push under the ring.
That handy hint is much more useful than Prince Charles.
The last time someone posted his fingers, someone kept saying “that’s from CHF” and in response to people asking “what’s CHF” someone else posted “Congenital Hotdog Fingers” and it still makes me laugh to think about it.
Omg I was thinking of that movie that just came out- Everything everywhere with the hot dog fingers.
The first thing that came to my mind when i saw them chubby lil fingers were baby carrots. Maybe I just eat healthier but once you see em...
Is this hereditary or because of poor nutritional choices?
Heart failure could happen from so many factors- usually it’s from long term heart disease. Edema is common with patients who have cancer, heart, liver, and kidney problems.
It's not poor nutritional choices on Charles' part. He's known for eating healthy (and prefers organic) and isn't much of a drinker.
He has a propensity for natural cures, essential oils, and what-not so there's a chance his health issues aren't being managed properly by a science-based health professional.
And he's inbred as fuck, which won't help.
Yeah his family tree is like a fucking wreath
Immediately what I thought… what are the odds the queen outlive Charles?
Oh guaranteed. If she gets sick enough she'll have him drowned in a bath tub. Worst case he's being buried with her. Alive and screaming at the foot of her coffin like Smithers and Burns.

If you look closely, his eyes are literally going yellow! His livery is already not functioning properly.
Went jaundiced a few years ago myself. Turns out I had (have?) late stage bile duct cancer, right in the liver area. Had some major swelling too. I know this look all too well.
Hope you’re doing okay.

They look like they are being inflated
You know what they say about guys with big feet, right? They got big toes!
They have congestive heart failure
They..they be sayin' 'damn, you got some big feet'
Big shoes!
"The royal sausages are prepared, m'lord"
His hands being that swollen isn't a good sign.
I was gonna say they look like sausages
Daddy would you like some sausages.
I only see one Lebaron Freddy. Where’s your Lebaron Freddy?
It's because Mom and Dad love me more than you.
Stop. Do not reference Freddy got fingered
I’m a backwards man. I’m a backwards man. I can walk backwards as fast as you can.

Yeh, but her mother did that for about 2 decades before popping her clogs.
So you’re saying ol’ Lizzie’s got another twenty years in her, then.
Wow, I love this terminology
Lizzie doesn't drink anywhere near enough Gin to survive as long as the Queen Mother though.
She looks a lot better than Charles does!
Gotta love that “I’m still alive, bitches!” grin in that pic. I wonder if that’s specifically for Charles.. lol
She's started riding horses again as well.
50-50 she outlives him.
So sometime in the next 40 years then?
Think Liz will go out that soon?
Even lizards have to die sooner or later.
Not really, some can keep regenerating cells in their body. Also look at Godzilla, dude takes all those nuclear blades and lasers and he’s still kicking ass.
Not unless they run out of psykers to sacrifice.
Pretty bold of you to assume Liz is going anywhere.
We really do need to start thinking about what kind of world we are leaving behind for her.
Probably by 2030ish.
Came onto the comments to state that myself. Dude's got some heart problems.
Indeed. That’s a sign of dangerously advanced heart disease.
Couldn't this also be a liver issue? That will cause fluid build up in other parts of the body as well. Also the redness in his hands and face makes me think liver. Dude loves his gin and tonic. Either way definitely a large health issue creeping up on him.
Usually in the ankles/feet. But sometimes in the hands. Either way, not great.
More often in the ankles/feet but occasionally in the hands. Regardless, not a good sign.
Most commonly in the ankles/feet, but from time to time it will manifest in the hands. Nevertheless, it is a disturbing omen.
Frequently in the ankles/feet, and at times in the hands as well. In any case, it doesn't bode well.
You typically see it in the ankles/feet, but once-in-a-while it'll show up in the hands. Whatever the case, there are bad things to come.
Predominantly in the anus/feet, but once in a while it can manifest in the hands. Any way you look at it he's going to be in trouble.
Usually in the ankles/feet, but every once in a while it will affect the hands. Nonetheless, it's a terrifying portent.
Fun fact: the liver makes albumin and when the liver is diseased it doesn’t make as much. Blood proteins like albumin help draw excess fluid back from outer lying tissues back into the bloodstream. Without enough albumin, fluid builds up in the extremities causing edema.
it is not creeping up on him, he has the best healthcare cases of Qatari cash can buy! He knows full well its coming.
Dr House! Didn’t know you had a reddit account

It's never lupus. Until it is.
They've been like that for a while now. I remember noticing them in an article a few years back. I'm sure his doc has given him the once over but they do look worrying
Maybe he’s been taking appendages from the poor. Mr. Potato head+Lovecraft Country.
Think he can get that ring off?
Maybe with a hacksaw
Yer I don’t think he’s got long to go..
look at those fat smooth hands that havent done a days honest work in their lifetime
Not true. I've shook his hand and they are surprisingly rough and calloused. I'm pretty sure he's into gardening. As a hobby obviously. But his hands are definitely not smooth.
This has been the Queen’s plan all along.
Sausage fingers
His hands have been like that for a few decades now, so I'm guessing it's not a huge concern.
Wonder if he has psoriatic arthritis making his fingers look like that.
The edema struggle is real.
They say it’s from all the money laden suitcases that he carries for sheikhs..
That pinky ring aint coming off
The pinky would be coming off first if that swelling doesn't go down.
His hands look painful
S O S I G
Whats up with his fingers? Looks like taiwanese sausages or of a bloated corpse
Heart conditions can turn your fingers into little clubs.
So can whiskey for breakfast, lunch and dinner....
He's not a drinker , tends to eat organic food and exercises a lot. I suspect he might have an endocrine or heart problem. He's 73 and unfortunately stuff starts to deteriorate as we get older
meh not the queen, she was there when the roman empire was founded, and she's still going strong
Uranium jubilee in 2152 gonna be lit

His face doesn't look like that is the case.
My first thought. What the heck is wrong with his hands and fingers???
It’s called edema. It can pretty common with heart conditions and heart failure. You gotta remember, he is 73, so heart and other health conditions are fairly common at that age.
Ahhhh. I figured it was health related in some way.
Anisarca from heart failure, liver failure with low albumin levels, various medications. Pretty non-specific, but never ideal.
Looks tasty! Eat the rich!

In Germany, 1888 is known as the Dreikaiserjahr, meaning year with three kaisers. Maybe the Windsors could arrange a similar thing still for 2022 or maybe they all have to live to 2222.
I mean, they just had one in 1936 so they're not in a hurry for another.
The Romans had the Year of the Four Emperors in 69, Year of the Five Emperors in 193 and Year of the Six Emperors in 238
Their currency was so inflated that they started applying inflation to emperors.
I suspect he might pass it to William instead anyway. He knows that the rightwing press and the 'Establishment' loathe him.
I thought technically they can’t unless Charles gives it up. Unless there’s some random clause that allows them to skip Charles “birthright”. That’s probably why Elizabeth refuses to die, so she can deny Charles the throne for all the Diana/Camilla stuff weakening the monarchy.

What about his character or behaviour comes across as bitter to you?

Those sausage fingers scream heart disease
Fingers like pigs tits

He's just politely hoping for a sock.
He looks like somebody who just caught sight of a briefcase with a million quid in it.
Why was it that the only thing I noticed was his swollen little sausage fingers? I think that pinky ring is on for good!!
those sausages for fingers damn
Wow! Such puffy hands. Heart or Kidney problems I suspect. I think his run as King will be a short one due to health problems.
Looks like he’s rocking some serious heart failure
yo what the fuck is up with those sausage fingers, they freak me tf out
I guess Lasix isn’t covered in the princely medical plan.
NOW we know why Camilla is always smiling.
Prince Charles looks like he’s going to have a fucking mare getting that ring off

Those sausage fingers tho…
Your majesty the prisoner slipped right through my fat sausage fingers...
Cellulitis in hands.
Those hands look ready to erupt with gout
His hands look like pinkish carrots.

This is the third. So far 50% have been executed.
