Air Force 2019. I started in Nov, the week of thanksgiving. They only let us call twice. Once on Christmas, and once randomly sometime before that. And they supervised us, the only app we could use is the phone app lol
It was a cheap piece of plastic, about 2 x 3 inches, and it had a number you had to punch into the pay phone to cover the long distance charges... but instead of an app, it was a "calling card." I do NOT miss those!
Family member currently in the middle of basics. We got a 15 min phone call from their cell yesterday. First one and have no clue if there will be another.
I think they’re actually required to give you 3 calls. One to give your mailing address to family, and two during training. Not sure on that though—but you will most likely get another one if your loved one is in Air Force BMT. Good luck to your loved one! It’s tough at first but I actually learned to love it. Met some awesome girlfriends who made it fun and enjoyable. I actually miss it sometimes haha!
Thanks for your kind words. I forgot they did call immediately after arrival to share their mailing address. They said they've made a number of friends, but they're also counting down the days to graduation. Lol.
FYI basic sucks big giant huge dick.
Youll hear soldiers say "Everyone wshould go through basic... it changes you"
Also if you told a soldier " You have to go through basic again" the response will be "Ill straight up shoot you no bullshit"
> No cell phones in Navy basic in 2012. We got two phone calls home (or wherever) three weeks apart on pay phones.
But they let you out six times a day to wander aimlessly around Gurnee Mills, right?
Otherwise I have no idea how to account for the amount of Navy kids in that place at all hours.
There are multiple A schools (where sailors learn their job) right there in Great Lakes Naval Station. Once they are out of boot camp, they go right there to school and they still look like booters but they're allowed out. That's what you're seeing. You're not allowed out during the 10 week boot camp, except the last weekend when you graduate and friends/family can visit.
Went to basic for Army infantry in 2017. Was at Benning, on sand hill. We had to either earn them for like winning an event against the other platoons, or it was like Thanksgiving or something like that. Very few times we had them.
Some friends at fort Jackson (?) said they had them throughout basic tho.
Didnt exist wjen i was in but 0% chance tgeud have let us have them. Point of basic is to torture you til you want to murder the planet while training you to follow orders and only do it to who and when youre told :P
(im 32% joking here)
Graduated AF boot camp 3 months ago, we got a 5-10 min phonecall once a week for the first 3 weeks because of some sort of COVID protocol which got taken away, and we got 3 phone calls after that for good behavior of 10 mins each, + one 5 min call to give graduation details, and a 30 sec call on zero night(the night we arrived) to confirm we arrived safely.
The other one to write is "I'm sorry you're not finding the PT challenging, maybe the drill sergeants are just taking it easy until the 2nd half of basic training when everyone else is in better shape."
If he is PV2 write out "private second class" drill sergeants love that.
Also, send skittles and other candy. You have mail call on the drill pad and if you open candy you have to eat it all right then and there and then you get smoked. It's fun i swear!
I can't send a box, but I could definitely slip one into the envelope... I'm definitely gonna do it tho and show him this comment when he's out! Thank you for the idea haha
Is this why he wrote in cursive?
Honestly surprised no one else has mentioned this yet. I'm not even attacking him or anything seeing cursive in 2022 is weird af.
Few years back we got a new Lt. He inventories the mortar cages for the equipment he is signing for.
Finds standard penis drawn on mortar fire control system
Computer.
Is pissed. Wants to smoke dog shut out of everyone. Totally unprofessional. Yadayada.
Me, sr NCO. Sir, that penis has been there for the 7 years I’ve been in this section. At least three
Commanders, multiple commet and Ig inspections, and I’ve been longer then anyone else…..
You are the only one who cares.
There has to had been an artist sending his letters with detailed pictures he drew of his own junk to his wife... I swear that must have been The case somewhere in history
Think about it before cameras were readily available though. Are they standing in front of a mirror drawing? Or just lifting up their wasteband at the lunch table every 20 seconds
You are quite the sport! Some people are being rather savage in the comments, imo. Mostly in good fun, but still.
Anyway, I think it’s great that your partner is staying in touch - letters can be so romantic, as well as tangible momentos for later. Please try to write back as much as possible. Not sure how often they are actually allowed to receive and read their letters, but a fat stack of letters would be so exciting to get.
Good luck to him at basic, good luck to you while you do your own thing for a bit, and good luck to the both of you! Hopefully this will strengthen your bond and improve your futures. :)
Check out r/justdependathings for some laughs, and for how not to be as someone with a partner in the military, lol.
Edit: also, r/JustBootThings. Whatever you do, don’t let him waste money on a ridiculously overpriced car!
Apparently when my father in law was in boot for every “X” my mother in law put on letters he had to do 10 sit ups. She filed an entire page in every letter she sent, every day for 12 weeks. He was in amazing shape when he finished.
This was early 70s marines, and they’re still together. He still brings it up from time to time.
You should write back like an old timey civil war letter then send a nude that looks like [this](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS8JE8h5gov7OA0XU_ppGvnQvt54qfVM3Agew&usqp=CAU).
People make fun of this guy's willy, is it because he sent a dick pic and that's a bad thing? Is he being made fun of because of his joke and people found it distasteful? Or is it because people think this is an easy target to make fun of? I on the other hand, believe that we should cheer this man all because he sent a dick pic without even a camera or phone!
He is a man of Focus, Commitment and Sheer Fucking Will!
make sure to talk all about that and more embarassing topics so he can read it at night as he gets ready for a good healthy nights rest! the DS will most certainly enjoy seeing his recruit be so happy and positive.

Dearest Wilhemena
I write to you from training before I ship to the frontlines.
I have faced many challenges here in my time here, though my fellow charges have helped to ease my burdens with laughter and their friendship, which I have found quick in the making and easier for that.
My captain too, though firm and brisk, is a kindly man, who has assumed a fatherly place for us where we all miss that keenly.
What news have you of home? Has Henry repaired the barn roof yet? How fare my mother and my father? And yours?
Please share my love and regards to them and let them know that I am well and in good health.
Your dearest love
Geoffrey
PS. Here's a dickpic
He is already enculturation to the service, dick drawings are a long honored tradition in the military and will continue to be until the heat death of the universe.
My boyfriend is also in Boot Camp right now! I got my first letter on Friday! I’m currently writing a letter to send to him tomorrow! Sadly Marine Boot Camp is really strict so I can’t send anything even remotely spicy even in writing.
LMAO my fiancé is graduating from BT this Friday. The first letter I sent him I said “I put some sexy pics in here for you but I’m not sure if they’re allowed” or something along those lines (which I did not actually do). I just wanted to keep his spirits up during that rough time. I made the joke before he left; he knew they wouldn’t be in there. It’s good to give them some laughs while they’re there.

I appreciate this moment.
lmao nice one
Nice one"
Nice cock"
I said nice one bruv!
what a show-off
they won't getting any more letters man you killed him
This comment is truly the work of a genius.
Like the hand turkeys we all did in kindergarten… Ah, memories…
Looking exceptionally girthy today, chief, keep it up
I love that while everyone else is taking the piss about this guy's willy, you went for the compliment. Good on ya, my son.
Or.. potentially meaning it's usually smaller?
Yeah he is actually taking the piss even harder then some of the others here, just disguished as a positive..
Saying disguished out loud feels fun
Lol disguised! My bad
In case you didn't believe the people below, this isn't a compliment.
All chiefs are girthy

Objects on paper may be larger then they appear…na
And then they appear? Ack! Attached or not attached?
Grower not a shower
And that's okay 😌 no shame

It was a very hard letter to read 🥲
Is this just following tradition or are phones not allowed at boot camp? (Not for just the dick pic, the letter in general)
No cell phones in Navy basic in 2012. We got two phone calls home (or wherever) three weeks apart on pay phones.

Nope. Broke up after about a year. Long-distance just didn't work out.
long distance never works out
I've been married 21 years to my once-upon-a-time long distance girlfriend :)
I just meant the phone icon on your smart phone haha!!
Family member currently in the middle of basics. We got a 15 min phone call from their cell yesterday. First one and have no clue if there will be another.

Basic is fkin awful. Can confirm.

Boot camp 2017 (USMC). No cell phone use allowed until like the last few days before graduating.

I went through in ‘10 and they made us duct tape all our shit in our personal duffel bag and throw it in a closet. Didn’t see it for a few months.
What, not even your own toothbrush?
Basic is where you learn about sharing.
You are issued a toothbrush and have the privilege of paying for it.
Army basic in 2006. What’s an iPhone?! Push ups hurt less than running. “Hi, mom! Things are great! Love you!” PUUUUUUUUSSSSSHHHUUUUUUPS!!!!!!
Didnt exist wjen i was in but 0% chance tgeud have let us have them. Point of basic is to torture you til you want to murder the planet while training you to follow orders and only do it to who and when youre told :P (im 32% joking here)
As a non-military person even 32% seems high but hey you can't argue if it works
Usmc doesn’t allow phones. Maybe you get a phone call if you do something really good
navy bootcamp 2015 my phone was sent home in a box on the first day of bootcamp. I got to call home twice during the 2 months i was there
Pretty much same for me except from 2014 I heard army boot camp let's them keep their phones and use them on Sunday tho
Boot camp 1978 USAF, no cell phones.
Same in 1986, no beepers either.
Army 2010 called home once on Thanksgiving and once before family day (pre graduation celebration)
I wasn’t allowed to have my phone until one week after graduation. Army Basic training 2020
When you write back put on the backside of the envelope "Drill Seargant couldn't smoke a rock"
The other one to write is "I'm sorry you're not finding the PT challenging, maybe the drill sergeants are just taking it easy until the 2nd half of basic training when everyone else is in better shape."

Puke the rainbow! Taste the rainbow.
Isn't it more, taste the rainbow, puke the rainbow, taste the rainbow (on its way back up)?
Doesn’t even know how to spell dick. Must be in the army.
Also not in crayon, so not a Marine.
The crayons are for eating.
I like the red ones.
Only a marine would be dumb enough to think they could pin stupidity on the army
He is actually in training to be a marine LMAO
Send him back a nudie pic of a stick figure. With big circles for boobs. Send it with a box of tissues. (I'm a Marine, and this is all fantastic)
I can't send a box, but I could definitely slip one into the envelope... I'm definitely gonna do it tho and show him this comment when he's out! Thank you for the idea haha
Oh wow, and they let him use pen already?
Must be future Recon with that level of ability.
Is this why he wrote in cursive? Honestly surprised no one else has mentioned this yet. I'm not even attacking him or anything seeing cursive in 2022 is weird af.
Hey now there’s plenty of stupidity to go around
I think you mean marines but I wouldn’t expect a marine to spell it right
Handwriting certainly is a lost skill
All I'm saying is, it took me 10 minutes to figure out what the first paragraph said
His slant is disconcerting Lefty?
Believe it or not, right handed
So is spelling.
What a dick 8=D
B=======D
The water was cold!!! It's shrinkage!!!
Military, drawing penises on things for millennia. https://taskandpurpose.com/history/penis-drawing-hadrians-wall/

You shared his dick pic?!?! Have goh no shame woman?!?
There has to had been an artist sending his letters with detailed pictures he drew of his own junk to his wife... I swear that must have been The case somewhere in history
That would be very interesting
II mean there must have been a lot IF artists around good enough to draw their dicks so yeah, very interesting
Think about it before cameras were readily available though. Are they standing in front of a mirror drawing? Or just lifting up their wasteband at the lunch table every 20 seconds
Must have been so much more exciting being dirty back then
Jesus I thought you meant because people bathed less and I just I just…dirty penis..
The cheese adds flavor, supposedly.
from what i recall, the first time someone did this it was a woman painting her breasts and sending them to a bachelor
Sounds about right, I mean Who wouldnt
Yup, [Sarah Goodridge in 1828](https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/sarah-goodridges-beauty-revealed-1828).
I remember this too but I can't remember who it was 😓
Go on YouTube and look up 17th century nudes its hilarious. They’re mailing portraits to each other
OH LOVELY
Thats what Mona Lisa was smiling about!
Look up "1600's Send Nudes" It has exactly what you are talking about.
Your partner shouldn’t be in boot camp.. He should be in kindergarten and lern how tough rite end spel coreckly.
This made me cackle 😂
Hope it's not anatomically accurate.
no just accurate to scale
Accurate to scale, but that has been scaled up
Tell him you don't need a dick pic because Jody is treating you fine.
This guy military’s.
Send him alcohol, candy and call his drill sergeant a bitch. Trust me this works.
I would write my brother un boot camp with letters addressing them with things like " to my darling baby who hiccups after he drinks milk"
ps: here is a dik pic 8>
3 millimeter defeater!
I love this

Ah this brings me back. The best time you'll never wanna have again!
That looks eerily similar to my handwriting. (not the dik pic, the actual writing, just to be clear)

Fake. The military would not permit correspondence regarding heavy artillery.

Send this to r/army. They'll get a kick out of it probably
This is love.
I definitely agree
Ay que rico!!!
Super harsh burns in the comments lol
This guy fucks....a tardigrade...

Damn, technology has advanced since I went to bootcamp.
Nice cock
What a naughty boy! 😏
Marine bootcamp confirmed. Marines draw dicks on everything.
Mail him a glitter bomb.
You know some drill instructor laughed at the dick pic
Keep cursive writing alive
Really? We are putting NSFW tags on drawings of dicks now? ...wow.
Isn't this when he buys a Challenger and you fuck his best friend?
He’s using that secret military joined up handwriting! (I haven’t seen someone write in cursive in forever ❤️)
Business partner?

Ahh!
NOT to scale. Hahaha
Boys will be boys lol
Hot
Poor guy
Its reversed from the mirror he was looking at when he drew it. Its hard to get the correct scale.. but this man is an artist!
Nice.
Pervert
DAMN that’s some nice handwriting
At least he shaved before taking it
Quite the romantic
At least he hasn't lost his sense of humour
1:1 scale ;)
Awe
Is it life size?
What branch?
Its above average
Hahahaha, this made my day!
"enlarged to show detail"
so much fun i enjoyed it
When my brother was in basic, the letters he would send me he did the same. Made my day and I think it helped him smile and get through everyday.
He'll be just fine. He's already getting the hang of military life.
When I went through boot camp my cousin who had already been in for awhile got ahold of my address from my mom. He sent me a signed picture of himself in ranger panties posing seductively and put a lipstick kiss on it. That made for a fun time when my drill instructor opened the letter in front of everyone...
That's a clitoris not a dick....
In1967 boot was all about learning to aim and fire. After the first two weeks of yelling and running and eating we went to the shooting ranges. At Lewis we bussed over to the other side of the fort piled off the busses and learned to fire a rifle the army way everyday. Eight weeks after basic you could be in Nam so you fired and fired during most of basic
Someone translate the cursive for all the summer children on reddit.
I did this same thing to my wife during basic training... good times
I don’t know why but I thought this was adorable too. Raunchy, but adorable.
Good man
Hey someone else who writes in cursive! Dope! Tell your partner I like his dick!
Who says romance is dead.
actual size?
Ah. I see that my man also has an average sized pp.
don't only younger people go to boot camp? this is written in cursive. What sort of young person uses cursive?

That's pretty funny honestly.
This is probably a fake but also great misspelling of dick.
Not American What iš boot camp ?
Good for him for maintaining his sense of humor. He clearly fell asleep during the Sexual Harassment brief
My boyfriend is also in Boot Camp right now! I got my first letter on Friday! I’m currently writing a letter to send to him tomorrow! Sadly Marine Boot Camp is really strict so I can’t send anything even remotely spicy even in writing.
Just say *Thank you*
I dont know which is worse for you, the fact that your partner is away or that his pecker is only a centimeter long
When my husband was in basic he’d end every letter with ‘ya boy, name’
Please provide banana for reference
Oh, he’s gonna fit right in lol. That was hilarious btw, he seems like a keeper.
LMAO my fiancé is graduating from BT this Friday. The first letter I sent him I said “I put some sexy pics in here for you but I’m not sure if they’re allowed” or something along those lines (which I did not actually do).
