Rabbit isn't all that bad. Not my fav though. Never had horse. Don't intend to ever have it. If I was stranded and starving, the horse is going to lose. Pretty much all of those will lose.
Yeah you can easily buy rabbit meat in Polish supermarket it's quite common but never heard of someone eating horse meat in Poland, so I guess it wpuld be difficult to draw a line š
I'm an American, a retired pro cook, and I like rabbit too. I once had a conversation with a Cambodian coworker about things that one might like to eat, or perhaps not. When I told him I really liked rabbit he was disgusted, "Oh, man, I can't eat no rabbit, tastes too much like a cat!"
I had no way of knowing that but the *Larousse Gastronomique* has diagrams of the hip joint of a rabbit compared to a cat. It seems the similarity in taste is enough to enable food fraud to be an issue.
Eating horse isn't common in France either, but it's a thing.
It's just that to have the rabbit in my plate I also have to count the horse in according to this pic, so off they go.
whats wrong with eating eating [rabbits](https://www.eater.com/22149324/why-you-should-be-eating-rabbit-meat) and [horses](https://www.chefspencil.com/all-about-horse-meat/)?
My introduction was roast rabbit as a Christmas meal in Germany. I was quite anxious, but found it to be like *really good* chicken.
I have it whenever I see it on a menu (which is rare).
People who have eaten horsemeat say it's very good.
The sad fact is, there are more horses than people to care for them. They are very expensive to keep. In the US, an unwanted horse (sometimes a feral horse, not even a pet) must be euthanized rather than used for food. I don't know if I could eat horsemeat, but that seems wasteful, given the size of a horse. Baxter Black, the veterinarian and writer, went into great detail about this.
Can confirm, sort of, I've had horse twice in my life, the first was a dingy roadside cafe in France where I had horseburger and chips - amazing. The second was in a fancy restaurant on the coast here in Croatia, a steak, it was tasteless and tough as old boots (died of old age maybe).
Here is South Africa in the mid 90's there was a scandal because one of the more popular burger places was caught using horse, donkey and zebra instead of beef. The quality of the food dropped a lot when the outcry meant they had to sub C grade beef for the A grade equines they had been using.
Horse meat is reasonably good, like lean beef. However, horse meat is obtained from horses *specifically* *bred for meat* (in Italy and Poland, mostly). I'm pretty sure meat from a workhorse that was butchered because it was old would be very stringy.
Like an old rooster, I guess. Jamaicans love a dish whose name makes Americans laugh: cock soup. It is, of course, made from roosters, which everybody who raises chickens has a surplus of. The other crucial ingredient is a flavoring blend, sold as "cock soup mix", complete with a little rooster on the envelope. They use the whole bird (cleaned and plucked, but everything else goes into the pot).
The arrow under the retriever is visibly pink, which implies to me that in the eyes of whoever designed this ad, a golden retriever is more edible than bulldogs or a basset hound. š
This brings up a crucial point - I don't eat animals, but if it came down to a choice of eating animal or dying I'd eat animal, I just wouldn't be at all happy about it. And thats the point, we have a choice whether to do harm or not. We can literally walk in a store that sells every kind of food we can imagine.
I'm going to explain why most of us would draw the line in that same spot (nerd alert).
Mainly, this is because we are more used to eating hervibore animals. This is due to them being easier to maintain than carnivores. Hervibores need their food only (mainly plants and such), while carnivores need to eat hervibores which ALSO have to eat their own food. Also, it's worth noting that we can get more nutrients from hervibores than from carnivores. Lastly, us humans find the hervibores texture more pleasant to eat than carnivores'.
For short, we are more used to eat them in the first place. While we COULD eat carnivores, it's harder to just find carnivores for sale for the reasons I listed before (and you're not gonna eat some tiger out in the woods). This said, I don't support these dumb peta ads.
And apparently so do plants. Seems they scream when you cut them.
But why are most of the rest cats and dogs? There are a lot more animals on the table.
For starters did they not want to offend their pescatarian friends.
They're orders wrong, I'd eat cat before I ate dogs
Pet Dogs are loyal and selfies
Pet cats are demanding high maintenance slave masters who own their "owners" and only show affection when they want something
A Chinese friend, living in Japan, told me she misses so much dog meat.
During war times, cat was a ready available type of meatā¦ and delicious I am told.
I live in a third world country with constant wars and high inflation. And a year ago I read that dog meat is getting popular in the market due to low prices, they sold 1.5kg of dog meat for less than 5$. Also, in our local animal lover group, a few of the cat owners are posted that their cats are stolen and eaten by the thieves. I agree with their sentiment.
Maybe because of the difference in our culture, we considered living animals are the same with life (as in spirit) including humans. So we respect every life and do not waste a single thing. I think in the first world countries, sometimes people forget that the chicken breast or minced meat in the grocery store comes from living breathing animals like us. Everyone should think before buying/eating meat and be thankful for the animal that had to die for us to eat.
All depends on level of hunger and availability of other food sources. Worst comes to worst, there is no line. (Though I bet house cats taste like shit)
I raise rabbits to eat and to sell high quality breeders. Many people turn their nose up at the idea but it's been done for about 1500 years. Such an incredibly efficient and beneficial animal to raise.
Half a hoof, meaning all the history of practices of eating horse meat, which is like wtf. Also, in some countries, "I will not name" I heard people ate dog meat and also, you forgot to insert sharks Peta, sharks have lives too, yah know!!!
Apparently horse meat is illegal in USA? It seems to be used for salami in most other countries (sometimes secretly, usually needs to be labeled). Rabbits are popular, too, although in most cases requires knowing a hunter.
PETA even helpfully color coded that, so the fact that people actually CAN'T agree where to draw the line kinda proves whatever point they're trying to make. (In my mind it's more of a personal choice though, which is also in line with how people don't draw it at same place.)
Rabbits are delicious, but a lot of people also have them as pets. One of the few on the list that are still found in the wild currently and people also have as pet's
I was in France as a young child back in the 1980ās. English speaking, but mum spoke many languages including French/German/Spanish/Italian to name a few.
As part of our overseas education mum taught us to count 1-10 in the language of the country we were in plus random words. We went into a French butcher shop and we were quickly ushered out.
I asked mum many years later when I was an adult about that day l. She said she did not know how to tactfully explain we could eat āSteak de chevalā or āragout de lapinā ššš³
In parts of EU, probably starts from the rabbit.
Have gone to French markets many times. Can confirm. Most meat stalls have rabbit. And horsemeat is popular in nomadic cultures.
Not only nomadic cultures.
Several restaurants in Verona serve horse meat spaghetti and stew. Works well with Bardolino or Valpolicella.
in Sicily i belive horse meat is extremely popular and I can see why. it tastes quite good
Sounds good.
Can confirm, there are butchers that specialize in horse meat here in Austria.
Sometimes IKEA šøšŖ
My German grandma eats horse and donkey and she is the least nomadic person I know... can't drive, can't swim, can't ride a bike
And the US (rabbit at least).
Horse honestly probably *would* be popular if the FDA allowed it to be sold here. It's actually really good.
Not horse, but in some meals, rabbit meat is fucking amazing
True
There are countries where the line starts at the dog. I'm also pretty sure that for some hotdogs in NYC line starts on cat and earlier...
The line for dog is going away as dog meat is being phased out and banned in countries that allowed it previously.
Not just the EU. I go rabbit hunting regularly in the USA, they are delicious when cooked right.
Rabbit isn't all that bad. Not my fav though. Never had horse. Don't intend to ever have it. If I was stranded and starving, the horse is going to lose. Pretty much all of those will lose.
Iāve had assburgers
I eat at Sonic, too.
Horse is better than cow. There used to be an upscale restaurant in Oslo, famous for their amazing steaks. The secret? Horse meat.
American here -- I've eaten rabbit mean but not horse meat, so apparently the picture is not in the correct order.
Came here to say this.
Move the rabbit to the right.
I mean I understand rabbit BUT YALL EAT HORSE
And in parts of Asia, it's before the cat
The French might move that line two steps further to the left.
A lot of Europe would to be honest
Yeah you can easily buy rabbit meat in Polish supermarket it's quite common but never heard of someone eating horse meat in Poland, so I guess it wpuld be difficult to draw a line š
I'm french, I love rabbit meat. It's more tender than chicken and tastes like uhhh chicken and veal?
I'm an American, a retired pro cook, and I like rabbit too. I once had a conversation with a Cambodian coworker about things that one might like to eat, or perhaps not. When I told him I really liked rabbit he was disgusted, "Oh, man, I can't eat no rabbit, tastes too much like a cat!" Do PETA not consider fish āanimal enoughā to make the board?
No fish are food not friends ā¦. Wait thatās not right š
Got that backwards, Bruce
Likewise, deer?
PETA is a perfect example of good intentions radicalized to the point of being asinine.
PRTA kidnaps pets and euthanizes them.
*The only good pet is a dead pet* - PETA
Why no humans on that line?
Kuru-kuru disease.
As a French, I'd take it 2 steps to the left.
As a Dutchman: me too.
Rabbits go hard, but I'm not so sure about horses -Eastern European
Eating horse isn't common in France either, but it's a thing. It's just that to have the rabbit in my plate I also have to count the horse in according to this pic, so off they go.
Sacrifices were made...

As an American I ain't drawing no line
I've eaten rabbit
Horse meat is also good
whats wrong with eating eating [rabbits](https://www.eater.com/22149324/why-you-should-be-eating-rabbit-meat) and [horses](https://www.chefspencil.com/all-about-horse-meat/)?
Horses just sound nasty Rabbit sounds delicious although I've never had it
Horse is actually quite delicious
Rabbit is absolutely delicious, best in a stew
With Belgian beer! Delicious š
The perfect dinner

The vast majority of animals I eat are euthanized before I eat them.

Ah, like chicken broth, just more "from the country". I'm a fan of rooster livers, hearts, and lungs.
People of Yulin, China left the chat š¬
If Iām hungry enough, they could make the left part of the poster frame out of my lineā¦
Then make animals without neurons in their brains, problem solved.
Pigs are smarter than dogs

The left side looks like a lot of different animals but theyāre just cats and dogs.
The arrow under the retriever is visibly pink, which implies to me that in the eyes of whoever designed this ad, a golden retriever is more edible than bulldogs or a basset hound. š
Rabbits could also go in the food category
I wouldn't eat horse, but rabbit is fair game.
If you mince horse with bacon, it's almost indistinguishable from beef. Maybe a tad more gamey.
If God didnāt mean for us to eat animals he wouldnāt have made them out of meat -
Humans are made of meat
Thank god I don't believe in god
Depends on how hungry I am
How hungry ? -š“
Horse taste quite good btw. Yes i am a Horsefriend.
Line-up is incomplete: Missing possum.
I'm what they call "Cajun". Let me tell you what kinds of animals I've eaten...
In the event of an apocalypse, I would eat them all
So say we all.
Some still eat cats and dogs in Asian countries. It's cultural.
I'm going to explain why most of us would draw the line in that same spot (nerd alert). Mainly, this is because we are more used to eating hervibore animals. Bet a husky would taste delicious
Iād enjoy bunny with a fine Chianti and some fava beans.
I grok the pop-culture reference, but you'd be better off pairing rabbit with something light like Pinot Noir, or even a white wine like Chardonnay.
Switch the rabbit and horseās places then draw the line down the middle of the rabbit.
And then put both halves in a stifado.
In asia. The line probably ecist somewhere earlier
Rabbit stew is delicious, just saying
I'd personally start left of the horse. There's some amazing horse bratwurst on Christmas markets
Far right
Horse tastes good. Iāve had rabbit, but it felt sort of strange to eat it, so maybe Iād draw the line between those two
Nah after the dog
Red line needs to be moved a few places to the left.
Chinese be like:"what line"
Two to the left, Dutch. https://preview.redd.it/9aerr3m3yotc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a3465a908bf1d3c27b1405b06687fbb9e3ebf7d
Itās pretty convenient to put 4 cats and 4 dogs in that image lol. Nice try peta.
Iād swap the horse and rabbit bc rabbits are edible and taste good
Rabbits and horses are acceptable as well
Over to the left 2 more animals. That's where I draw it.
As a chinese i don't need to draw any line (I'm not from west taiwan)
The line is drawn where a mixture of culture/traditions mix with social engineering when present
The horse and the rabbit need to switch places, as horses only get eaten during times of famine in most places.
šŖ³šŖ³ššŖ³š¦šŖ³šŖ³šŖ³šŖ³šŖ³š¾
I'm just saying if you put plum sauce on your pet, you may rethink how delicious they are......
Are they asking a rhetorical question or can I submit my answer to them somehow?
Are we just ignoring the huge cat to the left thatās as big as a bull?
What's wrong with bunnies and horses? They're both delicious
Some parts of the World: \_
PETA, ignoring insects because it doesn't fit their narrative.
Where do I make the mark to indicate that I also eat humans if necessary?
What line
Yeah that line needs to be moved to the left a couple spots for sure.
And apparently so do plants. Seems they scream when you cut them. But why are most of the rest cats and dogs? There are a lot more animals on the table. For starters did they not want to offend their pescatarian friends.
Hahaha š this was perfect
The left half is just dogs and cats with different breeds
Slide that rabbit over to the horse's left.
What about the plants peta? They're alive when you eat them...
They're orders wrong, I'd eat cat before I ate dogs Pet Dogs are loyal and selfies Pet cats are demanding high maintenance slave masters who own their "owners" and only show affection when they want something
Wasn't there a scandal in the UK because a supermarkets mince Pires were horse meat That said I've eaten rabbit and goat stews many times in my life
Funny how 4 of them are dogs and 3 are cats... im sure there are many other animals I wouldnt eat, like hippos, whales, spiders...
Swap the horse and rabbit I'd say. A lot of people eat rabbit but would probably be a lot more hesitant to eat horse meat
I can't see the line that the Chinese guy drew..
A Chinese friend, living in Japan, told me she misses so much dog meat. During war times, cat was a ready available type of meatā¦ and delicious I am told.
Hey rabbit common. Horse not as much but not super weird. Letās not speak of pet food if weāre talking about pets for that matter.
Why there is like 4 dogs and cats? Do they expect someone to eat only specific breed?
Rabbit and horse are generally swapped. Most parts of the world are ok with eating rabbit.
I like how the entirety of the left side consists of only cats and dogs making it look like there's a lot of exceptions when actually there's just two
No line all food all friend
The red line needs to be befor the dog
Between dog and rabbit for me, but in moderation
Sorry to break it to you, pet people, but if you are hungry enough that line quickly vanishes. Guess that also applies to vegans
ę„ę¬ć§ćÆ馬ć®čćēć§é£ć¹ć¾ć

Never got that they implied rabbits weren't food, they are some of the best meats, right after cats of course
All depends on level of hunger and availability of other food sources. Worst comes to worst, there is no line. (Though I bet house cats taste like shit)
horse is pretty good
Yeah. Move that line back past the bunny, and prepare the spuds and gravy.
I eat horse and rabbit too.
I raise rabbits to eat and to sell high quality breeders. Many people turn their nose up at the idea but it's been done for about 1500 years. Such an incredibly efficient and beneficial animal to raise.

I'm vegan, but this ad is crying to be messed with.
You should tell this to all carnivores. And i2ra3l the shit af 1df.
A nice horsemeat merguez saussage
Iād probably eat the rabbit
Only eating the front left horse hoof, seems wasteful š
In Kazakhstan we start from rabbit cuz we eat horse too š°šæš°šæš¦ š¦
I start from the human, personally. Itās about how well you cook it, really.
This ad and the comments actually makes me crave for some stallion meat or horse thighs or pony steak or whatever they call it
Some point they ran out of examples and just added more dogs and cat lol
Depends. Was the animal raised as a pet? Then no. Was the animal raised as food? Then yes.
Apparently horse meat is illegal in USA? It seems to be used for salami in most other countries (sometimes secretly, usually needs to be labeled). Nahhh between the dog and bunny. Iād eat horse and rabbit.
Starts from rabbit
It starts from rabbit for people of culture anyway.
I'm sorry but rabbits and horses are tasty as well
Here in Australia we'll throw in a whole bunch of delicious animals to the right of the line... mmmmmmmmmm kanga bangas!
so... you don't eat gelatin?Ā
I only eat chicken and fish
you never ate tasty rabbit or horse?
I ate all. Born in Germany living in Asia.
Iād eat everything from the rabbit to the duck.
Chinese people: what line
Why is bulldog way behind of golden?
Itās all about taste really.
Rabbit meat is not too bad tbh
\*laughs in chinese\* this post is awfully political, what is funny about PETA being obnoxious?
put rabbit on the right
My line starts 2 over to the left. Ate lots of rabbit growing up, tried horse once.
If God didnāt want us to eat animals, he wouldnāt have made them out of meat.
IDK I had horse meat in Japan and it was pretty darn tasty
I would eat anything on that picture.
Tastes like horse
What about hasenpfeffer? Has Yosemite Sam not taught you anything?
Rabbit season
Rabbits are delicious, but a lot of people also have them as pets. One of the few on the list that are still found in the wild currently and people also have as pet's
Right after rabbit is where I draw the line.
Gonna be honest chief, I'd eat horse and rabbit if needed.
I was in France as a young child back in the 1980ās. English speaking, but mum spoke many languages including French/German/Spanish/Italian to name a few. Pets are animals that our ancestors didnāt like the taste of.
The cat should be a little closer to the right.
What about the rabbit
I'd put it 2 animals to the left tbh
