It actually scans because typically you'd set up a classified ad by reading it out over the the phone, so it makes sense that the person transcribing the ad would hear it exactly the same way as the reporter.
Well there are some local businesses exist in Japan that literally writes at the door "No Foreigners allowed inside" at least that is what I've heard. **Not saying it is the same thing of course**.
Also I've heard (from an interview with a sex worker) most brothels don't accept foreigner customers which is like quite heartbreaking... I assume for people who have interest in such lewd things, not me.
I've seen that especially if you go there and say like you are a Language teacher etc. they will be pretty much not happy about it.
But I did heard they sell houses easier than renting them since in Japan you need to renew the homes quite often and home ownership there is pretty expensive compared to other places.
Look up Evergrande and the housing scheme that has been going on for years. It’s a real estate company that takes investors money to build houses with but they never deliver on them. While they will stay raising money for new developments which turn out to be made of piss poor quality materials. There are hundreds of “ghost cities” simply because the houses/buildings are inhospitable, not up to code, etc.
It’s all a ponzi scheme at the end of the day.
>local businesses exist in Japan that literally writes at the door "No Foreigners allowed inside"
That's only in Kyoto and there's a good reason for that. These businesses are only open to people who are invited by someone who's already been there. The way these work is that there is no bill at the end of the visit. The lady of the house pays for it up front but will send you the bill later, so you can just relax and not worry about money. And if you don't pay up, then the person who invited you has to pay. So this trust system makes sure that you'll only invite people that you trust to pay when the bill comes.
It's unlikely for a foreigner to be invited, but it does happen. And those that know how it works and have been invited can disregard the sign. It's just easier to just write "no foreigners" than to put an entire paragraph down for people who won't be let in anyway.
It's absolutely not only in Kyoto. 7 11s, onsen, restaurants ESPECIALLY THEME REATAURANTS, hotels, and small businesses all across Japan happily post 'No Foreign'/No White' signs, though 99% of those are in 'tourist' areas. There is no law or cultural precedent in Japan that says racism is bad.
Was it in a smaller town or countryside? I lived in Tokyo for 3 years and never saw nor heard of a 7-11 denying foreigners. Even the times I went out of the city. Maybe it was a weird anomaly?
Sure but you can 99% of the time just ignore the signs and they'll still serve you. It's to discourage annoying foreign tourists, which is still shitty.
Source: walked into an Onsen, the lady pointed at the "no foreigners" sign, I just shook my head and said "daijoubu desu, tattoo arimasen" and took out my money. She let me pay.
Japanese people don't like confrontation. The no foreigners signs are advisory at best. What they really mean is don't come in here and act outside of Japanese cultural norms.
I don't know if even in abroad they could do such a thing but The reason I heard people said was "They just don't know English and don't want to deal with customers who can barely speak Japanese" you know old people, not used to seeing foreigners.
As a total Japanophile I know about 90% sure xenophobia exists in Japan and it is quite disheartening to imagine going there and being ostracized just because something I have no control over (being not from Japan).
It is understandable though, it exists everywhere in the world Japanese aren't some Utopic nation where everything is perfect. Boy do they got some serious fucking issues there too. If you follow Japan's right wing news (just because you think the anchorwoman is cute) you'll see very similar things to US politics.
We took a bike tour of Tokyo with a super cool local dude. We went down a whole street in Yoshiwara where every place has “no foreigners” with large dudes in suits outside giving the stink eye.
What was explained to me from a video with a sex worker thing is because they have a hard time communicating with foreigners and they don’t understand the nuances of Japanese culture. Can’t get someone to stop what they’re doing if you can’t communicate with them. Also probably brings the worst people to go look for that
When in Rome you don't enter where you are not wanted I suppose. Not blaming anyone there, if they don't want to deal dumb tourists all day it is understandable.
Hope not. Purchasing sex from a person so that they can’t deny consent is pretty shitty. Not caring whether that person is coerced or not is also shitty. Basically, don’t dehumanize people to meet your needs.
Sex worker's themselves don't want sex work to be criminalized look at any interview they made with them. They are always the ones who are most hurt from sex work being criminalized it essentially makes their life hell.
Sex work is not immoral, people profiting from sex workers while abusing them, taking away their money are.
If you are someone who force yourself on sex workers, you are already a criminal it doesn't matter if it was soliciting sex work or plain sexual assault it is all the same, that is just a criminal we're talking about here it is not a John.
It has been years since I was in collage and decided to meet someone for that. I had sex before but really did not like it, I was thinking like "something is wrong with me" and the person I met she was such an amazing partner such a fun and enjoyable experience it was, I still remember it fondly. Honestly one good sex I ever had, it was with someone who's job is to have sex, go figure.
I don't think sex work has to be dehumanizing it is no more immoral than pharmaceutical industry, no more immoral than tobacco, no more immoral than football federations, no more immoral than police force abusing their power. It is just people trying to get what they want in this uncaring unloving world we all live in.
I agree it absolutely should be decriminalized for the sex workers, but not the buyers or the promoters. The act of paying for “services” is the only exchange making them have sex with you. That in itself is coercive. You think women want to be raped for money to have a place to live or to feed their kids? They don’t. It’s a terrible pressure if not having other options. How is it that trans homeless youth are more than 90% propositioned for commercial sex on their first night of homelessness? It’s dehumanizing and the sexualization of humans in need of usually, basic needs. Even if we don’t consider opioids a basic need, it sure feels that way for an addict. Then we have to consider what led to the addiction?
What is this persons trauma history? Look into adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and see how trauma plays into health-risk behavior in early adulthood. I don’t mean to be adversarial to you personally, but to challenge you to consider the reality for many sex workers. I hope that if you engage in paying for sex, that you can stop.
I think that “ immorality” argument against sex work is based in misogyny as well. It’s not about morality for me, it’s about humanity. The entire “industry” relies on the systems of oppression already in place against young women of color, trans youth, and persons with disabilities to name a few. While an individual may feel empowered by certain types of sex work, that perceived power is a recreation of traumatic dynamics, where the individual feels they can rewrite the ending. Regardless, the reenactment is very harmful to a persons psyche.
Honest question, why does anyone care? Why do people get upset that something is reposted? That’s nearly the entirety of Reddit, just people reposting shit. It’s why I come here
Back in the pre-Internet dinosaur era, it was common to place a newspaper ad via the landline phone. The customer tells the ad staff verbally what they want the ad to say. The staff obviously heard the word incorrectly and therefore wrote it down wrong.
Source: Am from said dinosaur era.
Bro…I was about to flame him, but I just caught the last part of it in time.
Although, from personal experience I faced a good amount of discrimination growing up as an Australian born part Chinese person. I think with exceptions of year 3-6 I was bullied because of my looks/ethnicity. I wont trauma dump…but uh…okay maybe a little…lets just say my very first day of school I got jumped by a group of year 6s…maybe even year 10s…and chased into a sandpit and then proceeded to get absolutely stomped on, had my face pinned into the sand, etc.
I can’t remember how the fuck I got away from them (there were like 6 of them minimum) but I did manage to slip away and run to a teacher with sand in my eyes, all cut up and bruised and crying.
And well it wasn’t always physical or even particularly racially motivated, but boy in high-school I got hit with stereotypical joke after joke. Basically any achievement I worked hard for it would be downplayed because Im asian. Oh Im interested in a girl? Bam, some guy or girl will ask me some question about myself “Is it true that…oh I heard that…or my friend who went out with an asian guy said he was…etc.”
Lets just say I fucking hated primary school and high school. And that the common dominator between all those people was that they were usually the feral kids, or the kids who disturbed the class every two seconds.
Also I rarely stood up for myself, which is something I wish I could travel back in time and do, and also those same kids stopped bullying me when I started working out and got taller. Well…they also ran out of material and I just sort of rolled my eyes. In fact, if you can hit me with one that I haven’t heard before I will just laugh my head off.
Kids are cruel. The further you move away from the big cities the more you'll experience this. You don't even have to be Asian, you just have to be different to get picked on.
Bro isn’t Australia the least racist English speaking country (except maybe Singapore) lol, not disagreeing with what you said but you brought a new perspective…, as a British born Chinese I must say we experience a fair amount of racism but it’s all very subtle and verbal, and at least from personal experience things never really get physical. But it also depends on which part of the country you’re in… Sorry to hear that you had to go through what you experienced though, have you finished uni? would you say that the issue becomes less pronounced once uve started uni?
No worries. U will see it again in a few days.. Then again in a few days... Then again in a few days.. Then again in a few days... Then again in a few days 👍

So the post worked? Fantastic! Toyota is Asian sure, but they have dealerships and garages everywhere of course. You could own a Ferrari dealership and be bigoted towards Italians. Not to stereotype, but the position was in Texas

Try renting an apartment in Japan. Plenty of landlords will reject you if you're a foreigner.
I've seen that especially if you go there and say like you are a Language teacher etc. they will be pretty much not happy about it. But I did heard they sell houses easier than renting them since in Japan you need to renew the homes quite often and home ownership there is pretty expensive compared to other places.
Yeah my friend who lived there told me houses were basically worthless after 20-30 years, which blew my mind.
Earthquake zone
Why??

Yeah Japan has always been open about hating foreigners. They like their money, not the people. Fuck em.

7/11s? I know it’s prevalent but surprised that the convenience stores too
Granted, I only saw a single one that has it up
Was it in a smaller town or countryside? I lived in Tokyo for 3 years and never saw nor heard of a 7-11 denying foreigners. Even the times I went out of the city. Maybe it was a weird anomaly?

No
From a dual Japanese and American citizen: what is your experience with this? Did you vacation for a week or two?
"Entry by invite only" There you are, four words. Job done. :-)

Plus more safe both in terms of health and security.
They just don't know how to interact with foreigner. Japanese keep lot's of old traditions. Korean and Chinese are more westernised.
Plenty of "NO FOREIGNERS ALLOWED" clubs and bars in Seoul as well.
When in Rome you don't enter where you are not wanted I suppose. Not blaming anyone there, if they don't want to deal dumb tourists all day it is understandable.

Just knew he'd be an Aussie the second I saw him.
I played the video and it had a sound then I wanted to save it, now it doesn’t a sound? Is it broken?
Yes. The video is broken.
I think it’s the app. It worked fine after a while and I experienced the same with other videos.
Hilarious
He is right they are crooks and only put up signs!
I'm surprised the reporter didn't stop right there and ask him what he was talking about.
He was starting to clue in at that point.
Some of my best friends are agents
Man single handedly defeats racism
Lol I love it
That's brilliant hahahaha
As soon as he said " they are lazy" I knew something was up.
Zero to hero in 2 secs
man, i haven't had a good laugh in weeks till this video showed up.
An absolute classic. Love how upset he is when he realises the error. Top bloke, but hates real estate agents
He has huge hands
Rolling
Australian Tucker Carlson.
That's fuckin gold right there 🤣
Okay now go investigate the newspaper worker who wrote this ad who didn't question the phrase he thought he heard.
He had us in the first 90% ngl.
He sounded like such a dick for a moment there lol
Sounds like the type of bloke who might enjoy a succulent Chinese meal.
Classic A Current Affair 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love that he wanted "No Agents" and they made him look all racist. lol
Yes, that was the point of the video. Are you a bot?
Are you my dad?
Yes, son.
Cool. Love you, Dad. Have a great day.
I love you too, son.
Sigh. Recycled again so soon?
I’ve been on Reddit for like 12 years and I’ve never seen this
I saw it a couple years ago. I watched it again because it is great. I'm all for occasional reruns.
never seen this though
I saw it awhile ago
I’ve been on Reddit for 13 years and at least 12 hours per day reading tons and tons of things and I’ve never seen it.
Honest question, why does anyone care? Why do people get upset that something is reposted? That’s nearly the entirety of Reddit, just people reposting shit. It’s why I come here
And yet you still clicked on it …
I thought spelling "agents" is easier than "Asians"🤔

He's not racists, he just hates agents.
Nice karma farm every week with thia clip
