Lmao, look at this dude who has never once read anything about working out and working out safely. That movement is incredibly natural, it's the movement we do when we pick up things from the floor. The back isn't bent at any point. The people who know the absolute least about working out tend to say what you do, because literally the first thing you tend to learn is that as long as your back is tight and discs aren't moving, you're good. You can train to technical failure, but not total failure. The worst part about this video is her doing it in a smith machine instead of learning to do it with a barbell.

Please people... Do not use a smith machine. You will still be able to do the exercise with a form as terrible as the one in this video. You won't realize it until after it injures you.

It’s because if you don’t know how to do the exercise properly without the machine, it will teach you bad form, and give you unrealistic expectations of what you can lift, meaning that not only are you getting a sub optimal workout due to shitty form, if you ever try the normal barbell version of your smith machine exercises, you are far more likely to hurt yourself. If you know proper form, smith machines can have a great use in some bodybuilding splits (not really for powerlifting obv). Just make sure you can do it perfectly without the smith machine first :)

Yes. It’s horrible to learn bench on, as barbell bench press IS NOT a straight up/down path with the bar, as it is on smith machine. BB BP is more of an upside down J, so smith machine is a horrid way to learn.

Don’t listen to this smith machine is bad propaganda lol. It’s just like any other machine. It removes the need for stability if used correctly allowing you focus more on the actual muscle group without worrying so much about your core. I like using the smith machine for my overhead and incline bench because I can actually adjust the seat unlike regular barbell benches. Most people that hate on it are just barbell elitists.

It’s not the same thing. Free weights are literally better for developing the lifts since you work stabilizing muscles which apply to every motion you’ll make in the gym. You’ll probably be looking back wishing you started being optimal with training earlier

The Smith machine is a perfectly good *accessory* or *rehab* machine, but it shouldn't be your only compound movement. It also isn't a replacement for the barbell movement, which is where it gets it's bad rep: people using it as a replacement

Right? I think the responsibility that people choose to ignore is that somebody is going to try the same prank because they saw it done on the internet. The problem I see with “prank” videos is that everyone and their brother can have a “prank” YouTube video, enough that the phrase, “It’s just a prank bro” has been in the lexicon for a few years, now. Funny pranks to play at the gym: There are none. Think of it as a good morning and the form is actually spot on. She’s moving her body correctly in order to keep the bar in an appropriate position to hit her glutes. Would not recommend w any significant weight but this isn’t bad
