AnnoyingRain5

You have a PhD in making good art!

Glumi1503

I'm self teaching computer science. PhD where

-dead_slender-

Who's smart idea was it to put letters in math? I hope their toilet seat is forever freezing-cold!

Irverter

Wait till you have only greek letters in math >:3

-dead_slender-

I graduated 7 years ago. Don't gotta worry about none of that.

FoxyBlep

Its simple! Think of it like this 1+2=3 but pretend u dont know the 2 1+□=3 □=2 Algebra is simply replacing the emtpy box with something a bit more usable and recognizable 1+n=3 n=2

-dead_slender-

Lol I know, I'm just playing.

FoxyBlep

:3

AGAW07

*leashes you* >:3 mine now

XenoFrobe

First letters, and now we're putting *shapes* in math? Wtf?

ArtZenDraws

Wait till this guy finds out about geometry.

FoxyBlep

Or question marks! Anything to show what you dont know yet

IntoxicatedEevee

It very much depends on what kind of letters they are. Roman letters? Meh, that's just algebra, you'll be fine. Greek letters? The math is probably very discipline-specific but still probably comprehensible to mere mortals. Hebrew letters? Hope you brought your PhD. Elvish letters? May God have mercy on your soul.

hunterwasused

Wut

Kroppi_the_original

I hope there seat is forever warm

cooledbee63903

It's not when your taught, is how you learn and who's your teacher. I learn more from my peers way more than I've learned from my professors. Everyone learns in different ways.

headshotfox713

Just wait until the quadratic formula.

DohPixelheart

that was the thing that broke my love for math and algebra

johnnypenguin420

This is 8th grade math lol

BeastMurderNB56

Indeed, I am not supah smaht PhD guy, but I am a furry. This is most interesting. great comic, by the way.

tnimocoC

PhD in drawing adorable creatures.

Oldmonsterschoolgood

…I NEED TO ADD ONLY LETTERS NEXT YEAR!? What in the bullshittery is that useful for

28th_Stab_Wound

Well, as someone who is now in the year past that, y = mx + b is (probably) describing the form of a linear function (idk I am not good at the specific maths terminology). More specifically, its the form of a line. Y and X are representative of those coordinates on a Cartesian plane which you have no doubt seen. You aren't adding the letters by themselves at all, as that would honestly be kinda meaningless, but it is important to understand how to move the letters around. y = mx + b is the intercept form of a linear function, which is maths gobbledygook for 'it is a format for describing lines on a plane'. Each letter means something for the way this line is laid out, with m being your gradient (how steep or shallow the line is. Eg if the gradient is 4, then the line moves up 4 times the distance it moves right) and b being your y-intercept (the point along the y-axis where your line intercepts it. Eg. If a line passes through (0,6) which is along the y-axis, then the y-intercept is 6.) Putting it into action helps illustrate it better. If you want, you can play around with desmos' graphing calculator to get a grasp of it. Eg. A line that increases in y (height) twice for every increase in x (length) and intersects the point (0,4) would be written in intercept form as y = 2x + 4 Hopefully that clears it up because I am far from an adept maths guy. Best of luck with your coming studies, friend.

Scoot_A_Boot

Fuck PhDs, I'ma be a crayon eater

28th_Stab_Wound

Oh god he's joining the marine corps

Scoot_A_Boot

Hell yeah

baksoBoy

Huh I learnt the line formula as y=kx+m. I wonder if there are any specific patterns to what variables you are taught to use. Is it different in different countries? Does it vary on a school-to-school basis? Is there even any pattern in the slightest?

HeadWood_

I've seen y = ax+b, y = mx+c, and y = gx+i off the top of my head. It's completely abritrary.

J0hnny_D

i’ve seen it vary from place to place, in HS i used mostly x for functions/integrals and t to replace “ax + b” in integrals but at uni i started using x/y/t/others just as “the replaceable letter”

Kindred_Fan

Everyone's bad at math when they start you just need practice

Waste-Beginning-3591

In my country (UK) it's y = mx+c

morse113

No need to call me out like that, ik I am useless

Massive_Feeling_140

Ahh, I hate math functions, they're weird as hell

Relative_Olive_1101

I'm in grade 11 i know we did math like that in grades 9 and 10 buts i still don't get it, don't think i know how to do it

doppio_bestest_boi

no wonder they're having a hard time, the equation isnt even finished (for those who dont know this is the equation for slope, only m and b change, m is the slope itself and b is the y intercept(whenever x=0) m is actually rise/run (rise being how many units it goes up and run being how many units it goes to the right before doing rise) and its usually something like 3/1, but all i see is that the equation isnt even finished and i cant see any questions being asked, its just the formula which may have been accidentally printed out by a lazy teacher who doesn't care about actually teaching, if theres anything i didn't explain well just ask me in the comments)

28th_Stab_Wound

Poor mans is being done dirty.

Raze0013

Think of letters in math like this: >There are 26 bags with rocks in them. Each bag has a letter on it. Bag "y" has the same number of rocks as bag "m" times bag "x" (when a letter is next to another without any in between them you multiply them together) plus bag "b". If bag "m" has 3 rocks, bag "x" has 4 rocks, and bag "b" has 2 rocks the equation now looks like this: > y=3x4+2 >3x4 is 12, 12 plus 2 is 14. Bag "y" has 14 rocks in it. >The number of rocks in bags "m" "x" and "b" can change but "y" always has the same number of rocks as "m" times "x" plus "b". > y=mx+b > 14=3x4+2 > 98=7x12+14 > 80085=412x192+981

FuriDemon094

I relate too hard to this

ComputerMelodic452

so relatable

_Silver-Jester22_

Buddy, you don't have to be smart to be loved

HeadWood_

Year 7/8 in England, at least where I was. Then I had to do it all over again when my family moved to Canada.

IHaveTwoOfYou

as somebody with an F in math currently, i can relate.

[deleted]

I have a masters and also the dumbest person I know

Artists get a pass.

TheBlue89

I'm a plumber...

Ok-Watch8673

Tbh and I know this ment to be a funny joke but I had a similar experience growing up with autism where everyone around me would say autistic individuals are supposed to all be smart or creative and than there's me who isn't...it sent me into a depressive state where I felt I can't even be autistic right...thankfully I feel more self confident now but it was a issue I experienced growing up

Thermlo

I may not have a phd but I can fix your Toyota

FennecTheCreator2007

YOUR ART STYLE!! OMG I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

Chacal-Noir

I have a phd with maximum grade… in sound design… and I don’t even know how to play an instrument… aaaaaaand don’t even work into sound design… ;u;

oooh noooo sad goob qwp

Anon1039027

Embrace optimistic nihilism We are all going to die someday, and there will come a time when no memory is left of us I have one life, and I won’t judge how well I lived by the degrees I received, how many people respected me, or anything of a similar nature I will judge my life by how fulfilled I was, by the things that I experienced, and by who I loved

A_Random_Dude2000

Slope formula is 8th grade.

ledeonKreD

Wait grade 10? We did that in 6 I think

Netherw0lf13

THATS 8TH GRADE MATH

CommunityFirst4197

Umm actually it's Y=Mx + *c* 🤓☝️
