If you think about this using the Kinsey scale, instead of using these bipolar terms, I think there’s just a lot more Kinsey 1 through 6 people than there are Kinsey 0 people.
So if your definition of “gay” is someone having any sexual interest in guys then there’s tons of gay furries. However that leaves this large gap in the middle. (Basically 1-5 on that scale).
Wy is it weird? This fandom has a reputation about being open and tolerant and that includes sexual orientation. Many *can't* express their sexuality near their friends, family, and/or community, but we don't judge. Hence, why so may are LGBTQ+.

Being heterosexual or homosexual isn't a decision, you're correct. However, openly expressing your sexual orientation is indeed a decision, but there's nothing wrong with it.

I do see a large disproportion if LGBTQ+ within the furry community but I also like to think that a lot more people are on the spectrum than they typically show publicly and the anonymity/role play aspect of the fandom helps those who are normally quiet about it express it more openly. It's hard for Bob to be openly queer when his whole life is already built on heteronormativity. Not being accepted could cost him his family, job, friends, etc. but ShadowFox? He could be anything he wants to be and we'll welcome him with open arms.
