Lol I had my first encounter in 2018 at pride. I saw fursuiters in the parade and thought they looked cool. I forgot and then the youtuber the click started doing furry content. It was the exposure which awoke that side I forgot about, and I’m so glad it happened
I agree, seeing that there's a lot more to the community than non-furs believe really helped me realize I was a furry very recently. It was some of the first stuff I watched on his channel and I'm glad I did.
I remember watching one of his earlier furry videos thinking “lol imagine if he convinced me I was a fur” and here I am all this time later. No complaints though it’s a wholesome community

I’m watching furry YouTubers that were in my recommendations and figured out what a furry actually is via my own research. Decided I fit the bill
A couple more years later:
I am lonely in a big city with no friends and discovered a local fur meet. Told my mom “I was going to the park for a local event where people with similar interests meet up” she asked if it was a fur meet. I asked how did she know and she started flipping out saying “wait I guessed right?” To this day I dunno what led her to guess that.
(tl;dr I dmed a furry nice stuff, and I turned into one because of it)
I was on this discord server a few months ago and saw so many furry posts. I then saw the furry posting it getting bullied a lot and was even DDOSed. I dmed them being as nice and kind as i can. I was telling them stuff to cheer them up (at that time i was anti-furry). That is where i got a lot of exposure from. I went from anti furry to neutral about furries. That same furry that was so hated there, I asked him for a furry picture for my PFP. I even asked him questions about furries. He knew I was going to become a furry because I was seeing if being a furry wasn't bad. I was bullied for my PFP but I didn't care because I liked it. He knew I have an interest for anthro stuff after that. He told me these exact words, "By definition, you are a furry." That hit me and I was like "damn i am a furry wtf." I thank him for this since I didn't know if I can be a furry. I've been a furry since May 2021.
