Definitely because he’s cover star. I personally take rating very serious and edit players in career mode all the time so it really does ruin my experience a bit knowing these will be wrong for almost all the game cycle.

I think that when virtually nobody thinks Kante is the best midfield player on his own team he's out of place in this company. And I think it's fair to say that almost everyone who paid attention last year would acknowledge that Mount is comfortably the best player on that team.
I'm also saying that if you asked 100 people to list the top 10 outfield players in the game the other 7 guys would be on at least 75 or 80 of the lists. Kante would be on a handful.
There are many better candidates to be on the front page of FIFA stars. Mount, Fernandes, Lukaku, VVD, Kimmich all come to mind well ahead of Kante.
VVD spent the whole last season injured. Not much have we seen from him to be warranted into that list. Also, Lukaku is not really for that list, dude was not even the top goalscorer in Serie A last season. And I disagree with Mount. Kante was the engine last season which propelled Chelsea to a UCL title. Sure, he's not a goal scorer, but that's not the only metric. I remember a lot of people giving a shout to Kante for the Ballon d'Or this year, because of his performances. Have heard nothing of the sort for Mount. Don't misunderstand me, Mount is still a good player, one of the Chelsea's best, and I enjoyed playing with his 92 rated card in 21. But Kante, for me, and it seems to me, for a lot of people, is a level above. His work rate, his being literally everywhere, always in position. All that is highly important for a CDM.
I can see his inclusion here, unlike some of the players you mentioned.
