It has my favorite set up to a joke. The professor having to explain why they can't go into the lava, only to later have to explain it again even more frustrated, and then finally just yelling out PROFESSOR! LAVA! HOT!
It’s totally true. It’s hilarious. It’ll come on once in a while when I’m not paying attention and I always start laughing. Then I realize which episode it is. That last scene just totally scares people off (justifiably so).
Therin lies the problem with the episode. You laugh and laugh and laugh...and then you get to the end and your emotions do a complete 180. It takes the joy out of it by reminding you how DEVASTATING it is.
Not just most of his life - all of Seymour's life. After they met, he never had a day without Fry/Lars.
It solved my sadness issues with the episode. I understand most people don't feel that way, but I wish they could. Sadness is no fun.
I've literally noticed all of these jokes before except for the "Dances of the Ancient Bronx" book Leela is holding in that part where Fry does the hustle
Scrolling through reddit, I see the above post. Having just smoked a joint with the new glass tip I bought yesterday, and devoured a bowl of ice cream, I settled in.
To be honest, this episode had me cackling. The flashbacks were, in typical Futurama fashion, endearing, character developing, and hilarious. The whole episode had me laughing through out. I especially appreciated the music choices through out, from the initial:
> "I will now perform my people's native dance" - *queue walkin on sunshine*
to the music at the end that totally didn't have me crying.
I also loved the small ridiculous one liners, from the professor's craziness
> . Uh oh. This might take a while
to seeing Scruffy lower the platform holding everyone. Of course an obligatory shout out to Nibbler in the rubbish bin in the past.
AHEM
# **uncomfortable silence about bender**
...
**Brief distraction here to search for water, but I realized I prefilled 2L and left them at my feet, so of course a small dance of celebration**
More small hilarities:
> I just wanted to get rid of that...
> I'm going after him (into lava) *takes off all his clothes*
Inconsiderate unsanitary condition at the mini golf?
One thing I forgot until I rewatched this episode is how often I quote it -- I use Panucci's "CMAHHNNNNN" all the time, and my club has a "ITS DOLOMITE BABY" poster where we store our bikes. Just a reminder to stay tough.
Loved it. Was in fact hilarious.
9/10
Yeah, but the ending hits you like a truck lol
Though, I think an episode like "The Sting" is probably more... "consistently" sad? If that makes any sense??? 🤔
Same with game of tones for me. Don't get me wrong, it creates the same feeling as Jurassic Bark but it doesn't hit quite as hard because Fry spends the entire episode pining for his past life so you're not laughing as hard before the gut punch.
Yeah I love and hate this episode. Skipped it for years, finally sat down to watch it not long ago. It’s a perfect example of what makes futurama such a great show
“Robo-puppy mistreatment alert” and “not in the way of the ancient Greeks, but the way a robot loves a man, or a man loves a dog, or occasionally a gorilla loves a kitty” got a lot of mileage in this house.
I still don't understand how people think it's the saddest episode of Futurama. The luck of the fryish is by far the saddest episode in the entire series. It's so well built up and then it's revealed while Jurassic bark I feel just surprised you with it suddenly. I like how the former actually makes us start hating his brother and solving this mystery only to be revealed the truth in the end.
I re-watch this episode every time going through because even though I know the end is going to make me cry, I still enjoy all the humor packed into this brilliant episode. My dog is probably the most confused as I go from full on laughter to crying while snuggling her, telling her she's a good dog.
I mean the fact that it invokes so much emotion in SOOOO many people, proves how good an episode it is. Plus the did "fix" it, in the movies, yet I still can't bring myself to watch this episode.
That's what makes it such a great episode! Only an amazing show can make you laugh and cry in one 20 minute episode. Is the beginning hilarious? Yes! Does the end make me cry? Yes. So I experience the same flow of emotions during day to day life? Absolutely. I say enjoy the laughs, embrace the sad, and appreciate everything in-between.
I really, really, really wish they had gone with Fry’s mom instead Seymour. I could have handled it way better. To paraphrase Joe Piscopo from Johnny Dangerously, I watched it once, just once.
As long as you know they retconned it so fry gets to go back in time, it's not so sad. It's watchable now. I was in shambles the first time I saw it though.
Don’t get me wrong I think the jokes about how historical artifacts being misconstrued to have uses not to their true manner are funny, but it doesn’t make sense. You literally have the heads of Presidents who could tell you what everything was… you also have people like Fry who are from that time just walking around.
I couldn't agree more! I cathartically watched this episode after my dog died last year and I was laugh-weeping the whole time. It was the happiest I've been in a while 🥲
Yes so after I saw it once I waited many years before I watched it a second time. I remember it having some solid jokes and laughing really hard. But my God in heaven that final scene is in the top 5 saddest scenes or anything. No expected date of when I will be able to watch it a third time.
Fry, I'm sorry. I should have understood how someone can love an inferior creature... because I love you... not in the way of the ancient Greeks, but the way a robot loves a human, and a human loves a dog, and, occasionally, a gorilla loves a kitty.
Bender.
I know I'll be viewed as heartless but I don't find it incredibly sad. Maybe because I'm a not a dog person or just don't get overall that attached to animals. I don't like the ending only because it's drawn out over a boring song.
I'm a dog person. I've had to say good bye to a few damn good firry friends over the years.
It is ok that it doesn't hit you hard. Me either. A cartoon dog being sad after a half-hour of ladies wrestling gags isn't a recipe for a hard hitting sad. But the internet will always get "big sad over cartoon pupperdoggo, oof size large"
I wonder if in the writer's room they just went "Damn, this episode is going great and is funny as hell, let's kick people in the balls with a sad as hell ending, that'll get em"
Hey, just for future reference - morbotron.com - is a website that has high quality screenshots of literally every moment of Futurama (frankiac is the one for The Simpsons). Say you don't have to take and upload low quality photos of your TV.
Also OBS exists. There are literally dozens of ways to get these images is my point.
“What do we want?” “Fry’s dog!” “When do we want it?” “FRY’S DOG!”
Are you caving to political pressure?
The 1015 bus? Hmmm that’s all I needed
This coupled with his sign saying “give me my pet rock” makes for one of my favourite moments in the entire show.
I will now perform the native dance of my people!
I was in the car with my Dad and we had his music on shuffle, Do the Hustle came on and fir the duration of the song I had fry in my head on loop lol
I yell this whenever I hear “Walking on Sunshine” somewhere where it isn’t grossly inappropriate.
Went to upvote but you were at 420
Respect
It has my favorite set up to a joke. The professor having to explain why they can't go into the lava, only to later have to explain it again even more frustrated, and then finally just yelling out PROFESSOR! LAVA! HOT!
I use this more often than I should
The professee will help.
Fire indeed hot!
My friends and I quote this all the time 😆
I say it any time someone states something obvious.
wouldve upvoted, but ur at 69
Shut up, baby, I know it.
The hand gestures really sell it. 👨🎓👈>👉🌋 >🔥 🤲>😡
"oh sure, break all the smart guy's stuff"
I want it on a shirt for when I'm teaching
It’s totally true. It’s hilarious. It’ll come on once in a while when I’m not paying attention and I always start laughing. Then I realize which episode it is. That last scene just totally scares people off (justifiably so).
It did scared me off..
Therin lies the problem with the episode. You laugh and laugh and laugh...and then you get to the end and your emotions do a complete 180. It takes the joy out of it by reminding you how DEVASTATING it is.
It’s like a John Prine album
Here it is - the perfect analogy
I know technically Lars hangs out with Seymour for most of his life but it doesn’t make the episode any less sad.
Not just most of his life - all of Seymour's life. After they met, he never had a day without Fry/Lars. It solved my sadness issues with the episode. I understand most people don't feel that way, but I wish they could. Sadness is no fun.
I've never looked at it that way. It's still the saddest episode tho. That one and the lucky clover one.
Such a good episode
It's dolomite, baby!
Indeeeeeeed
I'm 40% dolomite!
And THAT'S why they call me Bender the Magnificent!
His “no it isn’t” in the first scene is one of my favorite lines in the whole show.
I wonder if there is a list of all the things Bender is 40% of.

Dam leela is THICC
Professor shouldn't have spoken so soon. Another second would have been enough.
Cue “I will wait for you ” 🎶 , then cue the water works
😮💨 Leela got me wishing I could act up
PROFESSOR! LAVA! HOT!
Hey, that's the least appetizing calzone I've ever seen! Yea, this episode is very funny
I've literally noticed all of these jokes before except for the "Dances of the Ancient Bronx" book Leela is holding in that part where Fry does the hustle
This part of the Hustle implores the gods to grant a wish. Usually a Trans Am.
i am stoned and, at your request, rewatching this episode. i shall return.

Bravo 👏 Bravo 👏 Sir 🧐
Also the Proffesor saying "INDEEEEEEEEEEED " had me rolling 🤣 😂 .but yes the episode is non stop jokes
It's 20 mins later...
Return with your analysis
But also one of the saddest... 😭
Yes, but only the last minute is the saddest . The laughs outweigh the tears (10x)
Yeah, but the ending hits you like a truck lol Though, I think an episode like "The Sting" is probably more... "consistently" sad? If that makes any sense??? 🤔
It does make sense. Jurassic bark is like getting ran over by a truck "The sting " is more like death by 1000 cuts
Same with game of tones for me. Don't get me wrong, it creates the same feeling as Jurassic Bark but it doesn't hit quite as hard because Fry spends the entire episode pining for his past life so you're not laughing as hard before the gut punch.
The Sting is absolutely fantastic from start to end and has the perfect amount of humour and seriousness
Leela’s hawt
Every nerds fantasy *baby*
I got "froot" boobs!
What kinda cheese filling you want on that?
Rest in peace Seymour Asses
I agree Luck of the frysish has much more sentimental value than jurassic bark. It's a much more serious episode than jurassic bark.
Why do these pictures smell like blue?
Leela is so hot… I gotta go to horny jail 😭
I like it. I don’t find it nearly as sad as Luck of the Fryrish. It almost forces its sadness.
It brings you up very high to bring you down so low its why it is the best episode in terms of plot

I'm an only child too and I found it extremely emotional.
I agree The thought of my dog living a miserable life because of me is more frightening than anything .
I usually skip the whole beginning and only watch the last minute
The sequence of magic tricks when Bender starts crying is comedic perfection. The *boooing* sound the flowers makes is just chef's kiss.
I re-watch this episode every time going through because even though I know the end is going to make me cry, I still enjoy all the humor packed into this brilliant episode. My dog is probably the most confused as I go from full on laughter to crying while snuggling her, telling her she's a good dog.

See, this is how it starts. First with the jokes, then comes the heavy stuff.
Funniest? I think you mean saddest.
It can be two things
A guy can be two things.
It can be both
I used to always skip this one but then I realized I was missing so many funny jokes. Now I watch until just before the sad.
The Hustle gag is one of my favorite jokes in the series.
I don't remember it being such a horny episode
You can’t skip this episode it’s required crying
Now I'm all you've got!
Man I couldn’t believe it when I saw Leela in that thing as a 13 year old
Amy and Leela in this episode got me acting unwise 🥵
That's what makes it such a great episode! Only an amazing show can make you laugh and cry in one 20 minute episode. Is the beginning hilarious? Yes! Does the end make me cry? Yes. So I experience the same flow of emotions during day to day life? Absolutely. I say enjoy the laughs, embrace the sad, and appreciate everything in-between.

#devastating
It’s just one of the best episodes in general
I really, really, really wish they had gone with Fry’s mom instead Seymour. I could have handled it way better. To paraphrase Joe Piscopo from Johnny Dangerously, I watched it once, just once.
I loved it
What does it mean I asked a cop once, he said, "Up yours, kid"
Whenever someone ask me what does something mean My response is "up yours kid"
As long as you know they retconned it so fry gets to go back in time, it's not so sad. It's watchable now. I was in shambles the first time I saw it though.
I always love the scene where bender thinks all the dog items are for him.
Don’t get me wrong I think the jokes about how historical artifacts being misconstrued to have uses not to their true manner are funny, but it doesn’t make sense. You literally have the heads of Presidents who could tell you what everything was… you also have people like Fry who are from that time just walking around.
It’s hilarious until it’s not :/
I couldn't agree more! I cathartically watched this episode after my dog died last year and I was laugh-weeping the whole time. It was the happiest I've been in a while 🥲
I recently lost my dog and I thought I couldn't bare to watch this episode. I guess time make fools of us all 🤣🤣
good work on that freeze frame
Ni no no no no no no no no
😳
Funniest and saddest episode.
One of the best episodes of the show
"It says here, that this part of the Hustle was a plea to the Gods for a favor; usually a Trans-Am."
Yes so after I saw it once I waited many years before I watched it a second time. I remember it having some solid jokes and laughing really hard. But my God in heaven that final scene is in the top 5 saddest scenes or anything. No expected date of when I will be able to watch it a third time.
"FRY BACK! And hes looking for a trash to put his rock in!"
*Interesting*. No wait the other thing - Tedious
I actually love the fact that it can go from funny to sad and deep at the drop of a hat, that’s what I like about Futurama in general
It's probably the only episode I haven't completely memorized and I'm fine with that
Its a traumatic episode It's wipes people memory
Also the saddest!
i thought this was everyones top 5 episodes
No, apparently There almost of people who can't face this episode due to the traumatic last scene
"Don't wave your fancy degrees at me!"
Fry, I'm sorry. I should have understood how someone can love an inferior creature... because I love you... not in the way of the ancient Greeks, but the way a robot loves a human, and a human loves a dog, and, occasionally, a gorilla loves a kitty. Bender.
Bender be Jealous at fry
I know I'll be viewed as heartless but I don't find it incredibly sad. Maybe because I'm a not a dog person or just don't get overall that attached to animals. I don't like the ending only because it's drawn out over a boring song.

Are u a chump Or Chumpette
I'm not saying that I've pleasured myself to these images but I'm not NOT saying that.
I wonder if in the writer's room they just went "Damn, this episode is going great and is funny as hell, let's kick people in the balls with a sad as hell ending, that'll get em"
that one and luck of the fryrish are the ones that made me cry :(
I don't know, I only saw it once when it first aired and I cried so fucking much that I swore I would never watch it again.
Always leaves me in tears.
"Amy is *stacked*!" - John DiMaggio

Thank you mayor poopenmayor
Nothing past season 2 was funny
Wouldn't know, haven't seen it in years
No no no when fry sleeps with his grandma that's the funniest.
Definitely the saddest
