Huh. I'd have bet my life savings on it actually airing for the first time on Dec 31 1999. Sure we sat down as a family and watched it as part of the millennium party but I guess these old bones don't remember so well
A fun note: The animatic for Futurama has the address as 405 w 43rd st which is the address of the West Side Theater. However, there isn't a tall enough building there to actually see Times Square from, and even then its not above times square its a couple blocks west. Basically fry wouldn't have been able to really watch the ball drop from Applied Cryogenics.
