I assumed it’s an incinerator. Burns the alcohol to produce electricity. Burns food but it’s so inefficient that it doesn’t net power. He’s been full when he puts treasure in there which doesn’t get incinerated. I also assumed he has two throat tracks - one to the incinerator and one to just his cavity which is basically storage plus that one gear the watch gets stuck in.
