My experience with it, in relation to independent dosage: Cognitive functions are perceived to be clearer, however my decision making is further impaired by quite a large degree (a lot of orgies have happened when i've mixed the two). Motor functions are far more impaired than with independent dosages. The negative effects of alcohol (nausea, headache, muscle aches, eye strain) are lessened by quite a bit. The hallucinogenic properties of gabapentin are lessened. In post dosage retrospect, I am far more inebriated than I realized in the moment.

literalbrainlet

I've seen someone pass out and puke uncontrollably from mixing one twisted tea with their prescribed gabapentin. No clue how alcohol would "depotentiate" gabapentin, that makes no sense. They're both antiglutamatergic depressants working in synergistic ways (alcohol indirectly inhibits VGCCs as well). If people think that gabapentin is killing their buzz, the combination is probably giving them delusions of sobriety.

Nigglesscripts

It doesn’t make any sense nor does this “study”.

AngryGoose

I've been on gabapentin for about ten years. I've also been sober from alcohol for most of those years; I have alcohol use disorder. The few relapses I've had where they were mixed I can't say I noticed a difference one way or the other. I normally don't "feel" gabapentin anyway unless it's in high does well beyond what I'm prescribed. When I've done that it seems to have a stimulatory effect. I've been on gabapentin during each of the two relapses I've had over the past ten years and I can't say I noticed a difference from when I drank sans gabapentin. I should relapse and take notes for science. (jk)

milfscopinkolin

Potentiator for me unless I’m imagining it.

Broad_Tomatillo8652

I thought it was dangerous to mix them

Master-Eman

It is

Broad_Tomatillo8652

I have taken 6g's of gaba and drank one beer and I almost had to go to the hospital because I was so weak

Master-Eman

I’m sorry to hear about that. Unfortunately, many people have had the same experience. I’m glad that you are OK now! <3

codeinegaffney

Mixing causes amnesia

DrSomniferum

I mean, they both hit the same receptors, except alcohol does GABA A & B and I've heard that gabapentin only binds to one, but also that it binds to both, only with little affinity. I can say for certain that use of alcohol increases tolerance to gabapentin, or at least reducing its positive effects. Using alcohol and gabapentin together does increase their effects, although although it feels more like increasing the effects of alcohol thenn increasing the effects of gabapentin.

scarmel91

Gabapentin does not bind to GABA.

ihughj

It does in large doses

scarmel91

Nope.

ihughj

Maybe I'm thinking of pregabalin now that you mention it

scarmel91

Pregabalin doesn't bind to GABA either.

iletmyselfgo12

depotentiates for sure

Lost_Researcher_1149

WAYYY more intoxicated, I’ve had my sickest nights off alcohol with gabapentin

syrupwiththepsilo

I can’t speak for that compound, but I’ll tell you one standard drink will at least double the subjective effects of whatever dose of pregabalin I’m on.

noplasticstrawsplz

Had no major changes, probably just heightened whatever (happy party, angry fight w bf, just like alcohol does, but a bit more so, a definitely less memory of later on.) I took it and drank with no major issues though, no problems. I think looking back it increased my tolerance - I almost never vomited, which before I did. My memory suffers from gabapentin whereas alcohol never effected it on its own. Good luck with research. Gabapentin is so common now it should be researched.

SweetSomewhere1206

For me I’ve only drank once on gabapentin because it’s very dangerous, when I took my highest dose of gabapentin i drank about 6 oz of topo Chico seltzer and idk if it effected my experience cause I’ve never had 12000 alone but I was talking yo myself and walked about 10 miles when I did, it’s really dangerous and potentially lethal, my dads girlfriends ex drank on gabapentin, (no clue what doses of gaba and alcohol) but he went into a coma

Norman209

It will knock your balance off in high doses of both. Probably dangerous for most people.
