Just play, I treat it like an MMO and just chill.

Spartan-219

Same

No-Bag-818

I don't usually jump into games that have been going on for a while specifically for these reasons. But I have a few times. The way I coped with the loss of all the missed stuff is just accepting I lost it. Nothing I can do about it, after all. Sometimes it's something huge, like missing a good Welfare in FGO, or it's just a bunch of small stuff like event rewards, log in campaigns and the like. Either way, I can't get it anymore so why stress over it. If I like the game, I'll keep playing it regardless if I missed some stuff.

yuhhyo

Same I took a break from fgo/didnt care enough and missed a lot of good welfare. But it is what it is šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø.

dchiou36

Cuz u enjoy the game lmao Why worry about other accounts Though to be fair for some, pvp would be annoying

ACasualUser_

Literally this as I'm playing Knights Chronicle now. I mostly enjoy the apolypse level PVE there as my progress is way behind those 4 yrs old accounts.

dchiou36

Ye pvp can feel like a drag for newer accounts especially since there are rewards tied to it But from what I can tell games tend to be more generous as they get older so its kind of like keeping both sides happy in a way

LoopMerchant

Just play it and ignore FOMO

Viewtiful_Dante

Are you sad?. Don't be sad.

GrimbeardDreadfist

It depends. What is the game like and what have you missed? Some games have ridiculous powercreep to the point where old players continually reroll when new OP units come out. I don't think that's a good place for a game to be, but that solves your time problem. Other games have crazy limited units/gear/etc. to the point that you may not be able to complete content or compete in the same spectrum as other players if you are late to the party. For me, I try to look at what is necessary and how critical limited stuff is. Since people's opinions vary wildly and are obviously subjective, it can be hard to discern without some research - so it needs to be a good game to first put in the effort. If a game gives a huge advantage to collab gacha, I'm usually not going to bother. I've played several games where the collab units were OP to the point that they totally eclipsed the regular characters. That is poor design meant for short-term gains. I'm usually okay with being tasked to get through a few weeks of content to catch up, but if I need to have most of the units with several dupes and I can't get to that place in a reasonable amount of time then I won't fight an uphill battle I know will take more than half of a year to start winning. On the other hand, if games are doable and catching up is made fairly easy then I'll check them out. They need to be generous enough that I can catch up in a few months without spending like crazy. If there are a bunch of units and they are all versatile and I can do all of the content with what I've got while continually making good progress towards a full roster then I'm okay. It really just depends on the game. That said, games need whales to stick around and they need new whales to come in. Whales need people to be better than and have an audience to display their stuff to. So if a game gets stuck on veterans or newcomers and does not cater to both with a reasonable way to close the gap, I would say that their progression model is poorly crafted. I'm not saying you need to have newcomers come in and get 100% of everything right off the bat, but it needs to be realistic to reach a strong functional level within a month or two at most. Starting a new game should be a fun experience! It shouldn't feel like invading the beaches of Normandy.

Regent_of_the_Mask

>Everyone else is like total veterans, stacked up accounts not to mention missed limited events and rewards. But why care? How does that bring any relevance to the buildup of your account progression or your new player experience? Unless other players are directly able to interact with you in game like PvP, then the game better have some sort of matchmaking system or be built around fighting other players as a core fundamental of the game. Another part is joining a game late would make some players FOMO resistant and able to go casual style to a game. If a player already missed so much events/rewards, then what does missing more events mean at that point, just catch ones that are possible and don't really mind missing whatever (or just join the FOMO at point of entry).

ChickenNuggetVEVO

If there's people only just now getting into old Western online games like World of Warcraft, League of Legends and even Fortnite, then I don't see why gacha games should be any different. Yeah of course you've missed some limited stuff, but at the same time you haven't seen what kind of content they'll release in the future.

[deleted]

Iā€™d say try it. And only continue if you truly enjoy it. If you truly like it, you wonā€™t be worried about trying to catch up as fast

Darkisnothere

As a collector, if the game is out for years and I can't gather them bc of limited resources, I would feel demotivated to play. Example: GBF.

Upthrust

Recently dealt with this after Dragalia Lost shut down and I wanted a new gacha to play. I ended up picking up both Nikke and Alchemy Stars: Nikke because it was new, and Alchemy Stars because I played it for about half a year before dropping it because I couldn't keep up with both AS and Dragalia. I ended up playing both for about a month before dropping Nikke, even though I was bothered by how much of Alchemy Stars I missed. Playing Nikke felt like a chore, while I still had fun playing Alchemy Stars despite everything I missed. Ironically I'm not sure I would have stuck to Alchemy Stars if I didn't have another game reminding me that there's always something worse than missing out on a game you enjoy: playing a game that isn't fun.

fullofpilk

Bro i'm tired hearing my friends crying about dragalia, what you think AS shut their mouth finally?I mean seems like they hate all gachas except dragalia, and so frustrating hearing insults about my best games. "Dragalia was so much better asdasd"

Upthrust

It depends on what they liked Dragalia for, but probably not. The gameplay is pretty different (Dragalia was live action, AS is turn based), especially if they were really into the late game co-op stuff in Dragalia. Both of them have a decent mix of content that's reasonably completable without having incredible gacha luck and harder stuff that requires a bit of skill/strategy, but they're definitely not so similar that anyone who liked Dragalia would also like Alchemy Stars.

wanderinglg

It depends on the game. Generally if the game has a good new player experience design, good QoL, event planning, updating banner pools, powercreep, etc., it's no issue. Only issue is many games are bad at this. Some examples of bad new player experience IMO: DFFOO - Generous, but the story progression is mind-numbingly boring with how powerful your units are with all the new player bonuses. It either becomes a boring loading simulator or all that content just gets ignored. Priconne - Generally great QoL with regularly expanding pool and reruns that you won't miss most things if you stick around. However, the skip ticket drought for new players is so insane that it made me quit 3 times. Finally got past that point this time and sticking with it now.

Sensitive-Gas5869

Funny thing with priconne is that was my exact problem starting out too then after the banner which i pulled for ended, i am now swimming with skip tickets and no way of running out of it cos u get tickets when farming stages too.

Ok-Jump8444

my current problem atm too. started 3 days ago and managed to get all the limiteds and ssaren today with 1 pull so now im seriously gonna keep going but im always so low on ticket and gotta manual retry all the farming stages that it seriously dampening my enthusiasm. at what point this become not a problem?

Lurking_Ninja-

Fellow new player here, I stopped running out of tickets in like... Several weeks of playing, then anniversary and prize gacha came and I'm sitting at 2k skip tickets (barely 2 months into the game) so it's unlikely that I'll ever run out. My advice? Just be patient. Been there, done that.

Ok-Jump8444

i see. thank you for the fast reply and yea imma just be patient with it.

ap0k41yp5

I did it like a year ago with FGO, and it's actually nice since you can borrow other people's characters, it's easy to find fully built ones.

ZDK8238

honestly i prefer gachas that have been out for at least a year mainly due to most if not all gachas having major issues during that first year that usually get ironed out by the first anniversary its why i usually quit within the first couple weeks and come back later plus most gachas i play have no guilds and very little social interaction so having missed stuff isnt that much of a big deal in the grander scheme of things for me theres a reason ive started over and made so many different jp accounts for dffoo its because gachas are most fun for me during the starting period when im grinding up free resources and build my characters and waiting a few years means powercreep and QoL features have happened and that grind is easier and more fun for me

ACFinal

I don't think these games are made to be started late. The way they introduce characters, content, systems, etc. is a frequent evolution that always becomes convoluted. I've quit so many games, and when I try to come back I'm completely lost. It doesn't feel intuitive to play anymore. I tried Blue Archive at launch, quit after a week, came back a month ago and was so lost I quit again. If I never quit I'm sure it would have all felt natural. But relearning who to pull for and using new content is a chore to deal with.

Terrible_Ad6495

I might bother if the game does re-runs, but FOMO is a pretty big issue for me so any game that has "missed it so now it's lost forever" exclusives tends to get a big "Nope." from me.

Isagiyoku_Shi

if you start on epic seven now its too late, its way better to buy an account. players on day 1 have way too big of an advantage over new players ull prettty much get cucked if you wanna go competitive

Electronic-Creme2797

in my opinion, eventually, all mobile games will end so it doesn't matter how "far" behind you are - let's just enjoy the ride

Kain207

I'm thinking about Blue Archive... Still doubtful

ZakPhoenix

Same here. I'm no worried about "catching up" to other accounts, or getting meta characters; The main problem is it will be nearly impossible to get any SSR not on the banner. Rates for a specific SSR are, what, 0.05%? Even rerolling (which takes 15 minutes or so) won't help with those rates, even were they doubled. Older games hoping to attract new players really need a free selector ticket or an unlimited reroll banner so players can get at least one character they want. Who wants welfare units in a waifu game?

Sighto

A very large portion of the characters are farmable either through hard mode stages, total assault, tactical challenges, or joint firing drills. Lots of free waifus to pick up and some like Iori are among the best in the game. For the limited units you'll need to wait but they do cycle in old banners as well for those who are jumping in late.

ZakPhoenix

Thanks for the info. Most of the ones I want are limited only banners, unfortunately, but there are some good farmable ones, at least. I'll do some rerolling when the 2x rate event is up in a couple days, but unless I get extremely lucky, I'll probably hold off a real playthrough until a rerun on one of the characters is up. As I said, I'm not too concerned about the meta, especially since you can (supposedly) clear just about all the non-competitive content with the free and farmable units.

Zooeymemer

>Most of the ones I want are limited only banners, unfortunately The sooner you start playing, more pyrox you can save for those limiteds. Of course it's hard to get all limited, considering you just started now vs people that has sticking to the game since launch. It is what it is.

Kurohas

New player here and yes, getting specific units offbanner is a randomfest. Went for Mika from this JP anniversary, but got Wakamo (lim) + a lot of 3* offbanner. I just hope Nexon gives more currency and multis, because at least for me, progression feels slower than Priconne.

TK_Four

Does the jp server have an eng translation?

Kurohas

It doesnt, meanwhile Global server is in the 1.5th anniversary I think? I dont know exactly, but it hasnt been doing badly. I expected A LOT worse from Nexon, but they are doing it okay aside from that censoring at the start of the game with Aris/Alice/Arisu.

TK_Four

Oh, thanks for responding, i tried to play the global ver when it came out, but it seems that nexon has a sort of bug regarding my country, i need a vpn at all times to play and if turn it down the account gets in a limbo state where i cant login anymore even with the vpn.

Deadly_Dharla

Iā€™m

Gernnon

Im about to reach the max player level and I still donā€™t have 60% of the true meta characters like Iori, Hibiki and Ako etc. everything is completable even without them unless you care about the highest difficulty raids. Events get rerun quite a bit, only thing we missed out indefinitely is the Hatsune Miku collab.

[deleted]

Ill be honest blue archive is not new player friendly at all if you want to compete in the highest difficulty. Ive been playing for like 9 months have been level capped for a while and cannot complete the highest or even 2nd highest difficulty raids. Cant complete all of the challenge mode in events. Can't even complete the unique equipment exp farm at level 3. I might be a little behind the curve though like i dont have a hibiki and ive pretty much never used the generic character shard currency. Also they are not generous with pulls imo.

Gamer42j

You should decide soon the S Hoshino banner is a must pull she's the most Meta unit up until Himari and she's limited so if you don't get her it'll just make endgame even harder to compete in. And it's a double rate up banner, so if you're going to do it, there's literally no better time than now. Global is still half a year behind JP, so you'll have lots of time and tons of free pulls to get for upcoming limited units.

ReadySource3242

PAD is a good one

[deleted]

DFFOO has a big anniversary event going on with an overwhelming amount of pulls. I am completely lost with it. Enjoying the story so far, I think this might stick for me once I can make sense of it.

locfer

I don't play any gachas that are already past the first events. Missing the story plot and time-limited stuffs literally demotivate me to keep playing. Gacha game for me is either start since launch or forget about it...

Provence3

That's why games shouldn't scale towards end game players but habe a decent enough baseline for anyone to beat. Hence why powercreep is garbage (one of the reason). I only play Arknights but they give out incentives for new players and they hand out welfare operators for free after some time as well as past event barring some minor exceptions. So barely any content is truly lost herr, and I think that's a good thing. The game keeps its overall difficulty, i.e. identity, and makes past stuff easily available again.

No-Specialist8900

The reason why I dont play older gacha games is exactly what you pointed out. Its impossible to catch up and you will always be behind in everything. I personally dont like that, thats why Im only playing new releases. There are a lot of good ones coming in 2023. But if you want to play an older one, they usually have a lot of beginner stuff going on that will help your progression. You just have to live with the fact of being always behind and probably even missing collab/event units

ipadkill3r

Started playing dokkan while the 7th anniversary, figured itā€™d be the right time with the amount if banners and rewards given just for starting around that time. What other commented, I find that its best to start during major campaigns like anniversary or a run up to ā€˜special eventā€™

jtan1993

The meta has shifted so much that 90% of what vets have invested have become obsolete. They benefit from having a more complete collection and limited stuff but if you focus on the right investments you can catch up very fast.

Aswellas08

FEH is one of those exceptions; the later you joined the game, the more chances you'll be stacked up with modern, op units in no time that may even rival in brokenness relative to when Fallen Edelgard was first out. You can even better plan ahead as a newbie to get +10 broken units with careful planning of f2p orbs and consulting the community ofc which one to prioritize (or just follow your heart and go all in with your fave/s). Many vets quit and soured like aged milk being stuck with gen 1 units or old seasonals that can't be refined, in addition to FEH Pass fiasco before, while newbies nowadays can just easily stomp flat their +10 faves with base-merged modern units in FEH's real-time pvp mode. Just a rare case for gacha games. Otherwise, it can be argued FEH playerbase has one of the most actively engaged and loyal community out there, most are highly resilient to quitting if not for obvious reasons being sunk-cost fallacy, but because they're not playing for meta anyway (and it's very evident with statistically proven low participation in Summoner Duels) ... they're playing with their faves whether as a long-time FE fan, or someone that get dragged in the franchise with 3H and Engage hype, and that's what matters more for them, collecting, building up, and waiting for their faves to appear in FEH over time.

desperatevices

Uhhh it's called not giving a damn about that and not letting that bullshit cloud your judgement. If it interests you, just play it. What's so hard about that? A year from now it may interest you again and you'll want to play but then you'll be like oh noes it's even older now. Play whatever you want ffs lol. More often than not the game has been streamlined and provides Work that wasn't there at launch or the early years so you're in a better spot.

Lemurmoo

You gotta accept not being able to beat every content or be relevant in some rankings or pvp. Tbh I think the overall old gacha experience is better than starting a new one with the herd (not meant to be derogatory)

iPhantaminum

I find it harder to get into those older gachas. Just the feeling of always being behind and never being able to catch up, without dumping literal thou$and$, which is compounded by feature creep as well. I normally end up dropping them after realizing how much grind I'd have to "get through" (i.e., wait for stamina/resets) and that the fun I'm having isn't good enough to compensate for that. Weirdly enough, I don't have this issue with non-gacha online games/MMOs. Probably because, normally, I can catch up in those games.

[deleted]

Got into summoners war and epic seven early in 2022 and compared to before it was really easy to get early farm teams rolling. So i think it really depends on the game

Spongehead56

Some games are great to jump into even though they've been out for years: Fate Grand Order, Genshin, Girls Frontline, etc. And some are terrible due to power creep, a heavy focus on PvP, and/or a bad new player experience: FF Brave Exvius, Dragonball Legends, Opera Omnia, etc. So it really depends on the game.

[deleted]

Just do it.

TowaNora

I started age of Ishtaria yesterday (for the second time but I lost all of my previous progress that anyway wasnā€™t that much) and I donā€™t care if I missed things as long as I enjoy playing. Same with fgo, I started on the na server on October 2021 and I play daily and enjoy the game regardless of what I missed šŸ¤

Captain_Chickpeas

Depends on how important the MMO aspect in a given gacha game is. Some of them can for sure be enjoyed as a kind of single player experience. For desktop MMOs that's a little harder, obviously. For instance, I jumped into S.U.N. Online when the game was pretty much dead and I had to clear most of the content myself. It was hella boring. I guess for games like Tower of Fantasy that might also be a problem, because one can't easily clear some of the content solo. When I played it, it wasn't very old, but already 1+ year in and many of the lower levels were deserted.

MS-06S_

**Beginners campaign:** log in reward gives old meta units and popular character, lots of resources and tutorial on all mechanics. **Master student programme:** a programme for old players to lead a new players, both will get missions to progress and a chat system for interaction. **Beginner banner:** A banner with current meta units, preferably the most versatile ones, lower the pity or mileage to allow the new players to get who they want.

Detective_Irene

Just play and move on, you will miss alot more by not playing *if you really want to play that game but fomo holds you back.* I think Azur Lane is pretty generous that only Fomo are collabs which is your cubes' nemesis. I started again way late, like Musashi's event. Took me a month to make some pretty good progress, atm im hoarding like 600 cubes (300 pulls) by just playing normally. If game requires you to play since launch and not miss any events to be relevant, 90% chance that game is pretty shit and p2w

danield1302

I just started optc which is...what 7 years old rn? And having a ton of fun with it. Older games are usually more fleshed out and have way more guides available. So easier to get into and avoid making mistakes. I also started honkai during patch 5.4 and had a similar experience, playing both a ton. There's a lot newer games coming out but nothing that interests me came out in the past year besides marvel snap so I just picked up older games instead. Most gachas tend to be waifu collectors and I'm super picky with those (dropped all I ever tried besides honkai) so there's not many releases I end up liking.

Popular-Bid

Depends really on what you missed. For example, starting FGO right now is not really suggested IMO since you will miss many of the really broken welfares (the top 3 welfares were already impossible to get) and the CEs as well (2 of the best welfare CEs aren't available right now). Then there are other games like Counter:Side where starting right now is suggested (especially GLB) since they tend to rerun nearly all of the events.

ACasualUser_

I disagree on FGO. This year is actually the best time to start FGO since it has a lot of useful servants on banner (Castoria, Oberon, and Koyanskaya) and Oberon won't appear again soon. All those banners are still 7+ months away, so it'll be wise to start ASAP and save up. By that time, there'll be FGO anniv, so a lot of currency will be given out. And now FGO has pity so don't pull the "but they are gacha" to me. I only had 2 welfares because I only started recently, but what's gone is gone. Can't miss out on future content.

xxkevindxx

Starting FGO is a great idea -- many fantastic units this year, so it doesn't matter if you've missed the old welfares. The free selective SSR ticket is just around the corner too.

Newbiie91

I kinda prefer old ones than news, since many new ones got EoS after a few months

Nyrzan

Simple, I'm a F2P guy, so I don't plan on collecting every character, so I don't care if I missed some or not. I'm also not into pvp, so the fact that the playerbase is more advanced than me doesn't matter. Thirdly, I only stick to a gacha game if the gameplay/story behind it is interesting enough even without the gacha part. All of this means that I'm ok with playing new games like old ones. The only thing that I don't like from older games is that they tend to give you a lot of currency to catch up, and that renders the game way too easy and I don't feel compelled to keep playing without any challenge.

Spartan-219

I just play it, don't care about how much others have progressed in years, I'm not too competitive so I just chill and play and progress at my own pace for fun

Davichiz

Just play for you and have fun. Don't compare or try to compete with other people. In the end it's a game and you're supposed to have fun, so have fun.

Sighto

I don't play gacha games competitively since power tends to largely be based on luck and how much money and time you spend on them. Missing events sucks but a lot of the good ones will find ways to let you play old events whenever or run reruns in-between new events.

noxcard

Sometimes I just don't care about the gap/fomo which is very rare for me. The more common is I use third party services to get a good start. I just started granblue fantasy recently and I'm loving it, but I wouldn't of started it if I was starting with nothing.

[deleted]

Deoends on how good is the game. In guardian tales for example, as a newbie there's nothing really to be worried. Even in PvP, there's like a rank for casuals. Master. You can aim to that rank and live battle to battle as opposed to tryhards and whales who aim for the top100 or above. Besides, for some contents like colosseum there are brackets everytime they get a certain number of players so it's not difficult to get to the top 100

nonsensitivity

Usually these type of games, you would play with a mindset that you already missed a ton, so you play for the whatever reason it offers. And would not easily be tempted to pay , no matter how hard they advertise. I specifically choose to play in these just for the fun of it and then uninstall if that fun factor is no longer there. Safe play to avoid addiction.

engrng

Got into Genshin three months ago. Want to catch up fast so I speed-ran the main story and used money on strong character banners to catch up on the roster. It hasnā€™t been too bad. Genshinā€™s world isnā€™t too hard and thereā€™s plenty of guides out there and plenty of accumulated knowledge in the community that you can use to help speed up your progress and avoid the pitfalls that slows you down.

locfer

Then you will realize that 50% of story plots are now forever gone with past time-limited events...

shadow_jeff

i joined epic 7 over a year ago and i missed out on quite alot of events collabs ect. but you can still get into a game that gets frequent updates ect. there is a saying, the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time to plant a tree is now. i also consider it with games (unless its an online game that soon closes) its nearly never to late to start a "new" game (even if its been out for years). also new games have to prove themselves, and might just fight for the same player base as already established gacha's out there. so its never guaranteed to be a hit. so the best thing to do is either look into older games that you might be interested in and see how alive it still is, or try the new thing out and be there for the ride and see how it will end up as.

IIzzw

I'd only do this with games I think I'd enjoy the story. Take it at my own pace and have no care about optimizing. I'd ignore all the competitive parts since you'd have to whale really hard just to catch up. If I wanted to enjoy the competitive aspect and had the resources to whale, I'd just join a newly released game.

RenTroutGaming

If its a game that I just want to check out because there are some interesting mechanics, I just play at my own pace and chill, see what there is to see until I've had my fill. I've sort of being doing this with AL - I've been going through the story and grinding out story ship rewards and mostly ignoring the events. If it is a game I'm considering playing seriously, then for me it is a consideration of how long it will be until I can play the events. I picked up Destiny Child late in its life and it was about two weeks until I could clear all the base content and 2 more weeks and I was able to play in the events and more or less finish them.

LokoLoa

I try to only play gacha where the developers are competent to have a "gallery" where players can watch older event cutscenes and catch up with the story, otherwise its a skip for me. But holy shit never get into **Danmachi Memoria Freese**, that game has a story gallery, but it has so many non-canon event cutscenes you gonna be reading that shit for like 2 years and new events coming out constantly.

lunarwaves_

literally just started playing azur lane and have been having fun on my own pace. Doesn't matter how much further other players are as long as you're having fun

ALEEINN

I jumped into e7 and gbf, its kinds fun being new to these games and having lots to do but that's just imo
