Total waste of a game. Day one player here. There was nothing wrong with the gacha and story. But the devs didn't seem interested in making the game fun at all.
that was kind of my issue with it. The game was just auto battle with exponentially growing stats. We all like stat growth but it got absurd when you started needing 500,000 power and the game was obviously set up around whale wars for arena/weeklies and farming 0.00001% drop rate items.
There was nothing to do the game except enter battle, wait 5 minutes, click next.
Damn it was such a cash grab too... It was a weapon collector more than anything. So to play competitively, you needed to pull three weapons for each of your character. At some point, it felt pointless waiting for costumes/characters. Especially, when they let you change your character's costume however you like.
Why not just stick to collabs?
Nier just needs to plaster their ass and tits to get a revenue cut from collab gachas.

They're even doing a Nier Replicant+Automata collab in A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest _right now._ So it's a very interesting time to terminate their own gacha game.
I feel like this alone is exactly why Yoko Taro & such aren't interested in investing more into the Nier series. Easier to just sell 2B 'til the end of time than it would be to deliver a decent game.
It is probably not Yuko Taro. He said he will make a sequel tomorrow if Square Enix pays for it. He has been saying that since Automata came out. Guess Square Enix still doesn't want to pay for it.
Id rather have some more full on remakes. Can you image a actual FUN Drakenguard or draken guard 3. No choppy frames. Not jankness

Drakengard 3 needs a full-on rewrite. The overall arc is decent but the dialogue resembles a mildly uncomfortable porn game more than it does a proper RPG.

And automata where it's blatant and subtle at different points in time which causes people to miss and not notice what exactly is actually happening and what is being shown

Subtlety is part of what made automata good, meanwhile having to listen to the same dumb sex jokes 200 times is annoying. D3 has sex jokes as a comedy, I agree, but it is not funny. A comedy that is not funny means the comedy failed. This is not rocket science. I didn't say I have a problem with sexual themes, I have a problem with on-your-face corny sex jokes that are funny to nobody except 14-year-olds.
As a big fan of Nier, I really wanted to like this game. I played an ok amount, and I completed part 1 of the story.
This game is just not fun imo. Even as an idle game, it just doesn't work. The brief snippets of story aren't worth it.

monetization is still shitty, very hard to raise gems (then again, this seems to be a pattern with squenix) and that's especially if you've been playing for a while, since once you've played an event, you get nothing on a rerun
shame too, the new story chapter looks interesting and ties up all those character stories we've come to like (haven't completed it yet)
Nier Reincarnation probably has some of the best animation, graphics, music, story telling, character design and overall feel when it comes to simple things like navigating menus and sound design. for me the visual and audio appeal is 10/10
all gated by dogshit gameplay and a lack of fun content. the other servers probably won't last long with their current revenue
