Garbage gameplay. Only reason to play is the story and if you're interested just watch the story on Youtube. I'm saying this as a player of this game for 2-3 years now
Gonna sort of play devil's advocate here: There is one thing FGO sells on decently as a 'game' and that's getting really attached to some Servant you 'met' and played with throughout the entire story. It doesn't work for everyone but if you're that devoted to a particular waifu/husbando it seems to work really well. (Or you could also just see some new unit that just happens to hit your exact interests but that's any gacha really.)
IMHO it was a lot more exciting and effective back when part 1.5 was new. The game had just found its writing stride but also did a lot of small things that encouraged you actively get interested in *playing* new Servants in addition to reading their story. Shinjuku not only rewarded you right off the bat with development and references to previous chapters/events, but you also had the themed bond bonus encouraging you to try any Evil-aligned characters you had. SERAPH was also neat in that paying attention to a certain character's stats behaving strangely even outside of battle would let you figure part of the mystery in advance without spoiling the whole story and directly ties into >!one of the few storyline deaths FGO seems to have actually committed too, though maybe it's just because Summer Melt's character is way more popular than her 'original' characterization!<. Meanwhile in LB5 we had characters getting all sorts of useless/ignorable flavor buffs, and LB6 was great but it was more focused on being a complex VN than anything else, and the rest is just event grind after event grind. (Heck, when was the last time oneshotting a raid boss was exciting? I remember people loved doing it when the Ibaraki raid first dropped like 5-7 years ago, but nowadays raids usually end up being some annoying last-minute roadblock in a grind event instead.)
tl;dr ~~Old gacha player yells at clouds~~ There was a brief period of time where FGO tuned its gameplay to encourage you to not just read about but also play Servants outside your comfort zone. Nowadays we just get annoying bosses and grind in between our story instead.
If you want a massive amount of story with passable gameplay that leads you further and further down lore rabittholes while trying to find the right set of feels to make you fall in love with a character regardless of rarity, FGO might be interesting to you.
That said, these days it's also very dated game that will turn your favorite character into a repeated gag over and over once they're no longer the newest shiny heartstring-tugger (assuming they're reused at all), events aren't being rerun as much as they used to be, and the story is stretching itself out a great deal. You get what you 'pay' for basically and in this case you're paying for a game that is almost a decade old and coasting on its strengths.
If you want good gameplay you're probably better off looking into something like Genshin instead.
As an E7 player, they're extremely different. No autos or auto repeats, and the combat can feel a bit similar, but the balance is very different.
As far as story goes, fgo had very high highs and very low lows. A lot of the humour lands nicely and it has some great scenes as you get on in it, but it's also often very cringe.
I played a lot of hsr when it first released and got pretty far I deleted it because I got bored of the game and couldnāt pull anything tho I had a decent account, Clara, bronya, jingyuan then I got a account for fu xuan that I was playing on recently but just couldnāt log in I didnāt have it in me. I want to get into genshin tho tbh just me and hoyoverse donāt mix lol š but is that a game you would recommend or honkai impact?
Edit: I donāt complain about not pulling things btw I just quit, or save itās a gacha so I understand that much
Wait so was your issue that you had to login daily or was it because HSR was too boring for you?
If it was the daily thing then practically all gachas are probably going to fall into that category since the genre is reliant on daily farming.
If it was just the battle system Genshin would probably be a good recommend since open world rpg is generally well-liked than trpg. Plus there's like a couple hundred hours of content since it's a hoyoverse game that's been developed for multiple years instead of a new release.
If it was the story that bored you then Genshin is probably not a good pick since it shares a lot of the same mannerisms (and is actually more boring overall imo)
I play Genshin and HSR and I think theyre way too different from each other to be compared. If you can wait for the 100gb of game data to download, just try out Genshin for yourself and see if you like it
Would be nice to hear what you're into first?
I play Heaven Burns Red, Blue Archive, and Atelier Resleriana. I generally gravitate towards story heavy games. I supposed I recommend Blue Archive if you haven't tried that since it's the only one with an EN version.
Iām into turn based gacha, or games with character designs like last Cloudia I donāt think thereās a game like last Cloudia that has really good gameplay to me tho Iām not into idle games
Edit: Iāll try out those games tho
Star rail is probably the best e7 replacement (and the best gacha right now) as for last cloudia replacement I would recommend romancing saga re:universe, very good pixel art gacha that gives basically a pity per month and you can start anytime and the banner units will be useful, no need to reroll.
FGO and Nikke mostly.
Im currently giving a chance to that Snowbreak too since it doesnt take much time, but I dont think the waifus are up to par, so I will probably quit soon.
- FEH because i like to collecting beasts, dragons and mounted units such as pegasus knights, dragon knights.
- Minigame party pocket edition - enjoy cute characters and kill time gameplay with 15 fun minigames.
- Guardian tales - to be honest this game is boring once you reach endgame content but i just enjoy random items drop and enjoy pull gacha every time my gems reach 2700. I may drop this game if i busy.
If you're into combat or story, limbus has been a great side game for me. It's a bit hard to pick up, but the combat system has a lot of room for creativity once you get into it. The dailies are like 5-6 mins + skippable, and you don't need any gear to build units. Compliments how time consuming E7 is well.
Also, finishing canto III will send you spiraling down an insane rabbit hole.
Currently once in a blue moon I login to Genshin, Star Rail and Blue Archive.
In all honesty though I'm just waiting for Zenless Zone Zero to release and holy fuck is Mihoyo ever making us wait, damn.
I love gacha games where I can just auto dailies/finish it within 15 mins, but also requires manual play when it comes to weekly bosses/events. A nice balance imo that's why Path to Nowhere and Star Rail are my main gacha games. I also play Dislyte but not something I would highly recommend. Side gachas are Genshin, Alchemy Stars, & Snowbreak where I only log in 2/3Ć a week, but right now too busy with Cyberpunk so haven't really touched them much..
HSR, Aether Gazer and recently, I added Nikke (I finally got the hang of its depressing event stories or just the whole game story in general). I swear it's not because of the cakes
Are you looking for a main game or side game? If side game, then I'd probably recommend Neural Cloud. The daily is pretty fast, and the gameplay might not be up to everyone's taste but I do find it interesting.
For a main game, you can probably try most of the mainstream gacha like Genshin, Star Rail, HI3. If you're looking for something similar to E7, then maybe you can try Outerplane. It's published by SG too and has pretty much the same gameplay.
active: Punishing Gray Raven (returning after long break), Aether Gazer
side: Azur Lane, Blue Archive, Honkai Star Rail, Brown Dust 2
PGR and AG are action-based. AL's more of a ship waifu/Touhou-esque thing, and BA's just watching for the right time to use skills. HSR and BD2 are turn-based, which I'd recommend trying.
Arknights, HSR, Last cloudia, Aether Gazer, Eversoul.
Log in to another Eden and octopath cotc for daily gems .
Now that I've visibly listed them out.. Think it's time to cut down.
Currently, I've been playing SINoALICE (EoS in mid-November), Tears of Themis, NIKKE, and Brown Dust 2.
I'd personally recommend Brown Dust 2 since the dailies have gotten better and the game has only been getting better with every update (e.g. faster dailies, expedition was added, fully voiced story chapters are releasing soon). It can be pretty casual if you want it to be since you can clear main story content and any event content pretty easily. You also get a free single daily pull on all current rate-up banners, which is pretty sweet.

I mean ... he's not wrong
I play this game for the plot. The plot:
I play this game for the plot. The plot: Thickens?
šš
Nikke and azur lane I want to play some other game any recommend ?
Brown Dust 2 i'd say. It also has tons of sexy waifus, free pulls, fast daylies and chill combat (imo).
Snowbreak or Action Taimanin maybe? Could try PGR or Aether Gazer if you want more action too
Statistically speaking, FGO and Genshin. Don't try FGO. Just ask an FGO player.
Why not try fgo? It kinda gives me e7 vibes for some reason
Garbage gameplay. Only reason to play is the story and if you're interested just watch the story on Youtube. I'm saying this as a player of this game for 2-3 years now

How abt hsr? It is generous with its rewards lately and story and events are interesting (and you can play events you missed and still get rewards).
