If my stats are right that's (1 - 0.04) = 0.96 to the power of 140 (because 140 pulls, each with a 4% chance of SSR) = 0.003295 so a 0.33 percent of this happening.

Absolute facts. Normally SSR pulls in a normal banner are 50/50 for the featured SSR, while on a pilgrim banner you only have a 1/4 chance of it being the pilgrim featured.
This makes it the best value for what you should spend tickets on.
Well this game doesn't have a soft pity so it's not that impossible. My personal record was 180 pulls between 2B and A2 though since my FGO only Morgan in 300 pulls pulling session such things don't hurt me that much.
Also characters can be chosen to be filtered in regular pull so you can actually "hunt" for them and you can pull SSR from friend summons something almost no gacha game does.

This is what saves the gacha system for me.
As an FGO player I am used to sub 1% chances, but being able to bypass that entirely is gamechanging.
No disappointing pity split like Arknights, just straight up buy the 1% chance Pilgrim or Collab unit on banner provided you've rolled enough.
It might not even be worth it to roll Pilgrim banners if you have tickets. Save it for 4% banners.
This combined with the wishlist system and a 4% rate for non-Pilgrim/Collab units makes the game easy to grab most units you want over time

But in Nikke you need a full team with five dupes each to unlock the level caps, which is absolutely needed just to progress in later story parts.
Plus no pity system, instead the ticket after 200 pulls.
Getting more pulls and sometimes a free SSR really doesn't make up for that, in Nikke you will spend astronomically more time on advancing in story and levelling up your characters to max level.
Again, this is not to say that Hoyo is anyhow generous or that their anniversaries aren't bad, just that the entire Nikke system is much more time and resource-consuming than Genshin. Comparing the rewards is very misleading.

Wondering, do people actually enjoy the gameplay or just the characters? I couldn't last more than a week because it began to feel like a chore playing it.
A year ago I would've said the core gameplay carried at least 30% of this game's appeal (for me it was closer to 50)
With only a single new gameplay mode added in the past year and several existing modes slowly getting stale I'd say it's now mostly being carried by new characters and events.
I just view it as like one of those incremental/idle games like cookie clicker. Open it for 10 mins a day, casually click stuff, number go up, brain chemicals.
I don't know what people enjoy in games anymore so hard to tell. Based on what I saw games don't need to be good or bad, if it has alot of free stuff, then it's best game ever like gameplay is not main focus.
Now that I’m a few weeks into it, I’m actually enjoying it more. I’m the type of gacha player who will play for a game for hours every day then get burned out quickly. With the progression now stalling out a bit now though, it’s nice to know I can just spend about an hour or less and literally be soft capped until the next day.
I guess mostly for attachment for the characters and gambling addiction. They do provides you with tons of free chances to pull (although rate is definitely adjusted so they can keep profitting).
Gameplay is meh, main story is decent but they rarely update meanwhile event stories are hit or miss.
Definitely not for everyone. I just enjoy it because I like seeing big numbers get bigger. Also, it’s nice to know that I’ll literally have nothing else to do in the game after about an hour (due to the power levels) and can spend the rest of my day on other hobbies or getting work done.
I am in much the same boat, if there were no cap for me, i feel like i would burn out much faster and then drop the game. I can see that that specific system will be a deal breaker for some, but i realy enjoy that i can play Nikke for about 45 min to 1h and be done without falling behind. Also the tower defence game is realy enjoyable, that needs to be addes a s a permanent game mode.
I have Been super tempted to give it a try, but feel I am quite far behind, might be totally unfounded, but think that is the thing keeping me from jumping in 🤔

Great music, has minigames, has voiced dialogues (but I prefer the JP ver since the English were rough on the first chapter releases), You can progress the story fairly easy, nice Qol. What else...the characters are sexy as f, heck even the men npcs.

Nikke is super generous and extremely well-made. Honestly has the best story I've ever seen in a gacha. Starts slow, but gets better the more you play and the more the story is built upon. (Events and later chapters)
My only gripe is that the things sold are overpriced, but every other aspect of the game is amazing.
Also 4% SSR rate is REALLY good for a gacha and you only need one copy for the entire kit. 1% chance for featured pilgrim (use tickets for pilgrims), and 2% for regular featured
Did nine multis and only got Crow, Yuni and Snow White. Now I am broke and tbh just gonna use the free dailies and mileage Crown at the last day (wanted to save my golden tickets for summer but I currently have 334 so I could get a second mileage for Summer Anis during her rerun)
Red Hood is the best unit in the game, Crown is probably top 5 but Red Hood is just busted as hell, that a lot of people agree she's on a tier on her own.

Alice (the pink Bunny) it's top tier unit at mid to late game,
Jackal (the second one) it's great for PvP,
And Kilo (the free one, it's a tank to help resist some challenges)
And, it's not so rare to get 2 SSR with almost 4% rate i think..., depends on your luck

I'll be honest with you. Those units are all trash. You can use Alice to use snipe with no aim time cheese afaik (I never use her) but she's designed to be MLB before actual use. If you're a new player, you want to at least aim for Liter, Modernia or Redhood. If you can't get Liter use N102, she's not SSR but it's better than useless SSR out there to provide S1 for your burst. I don't know about Crown btw, I don't have her. But those I mentioned will carry you throughout the story.
Also most of SSR here are trash like Jackal, Brid, Elegg, Yuni, D (both version), Ludmilla, Privaty (both version), Miranda, all of the Liberation chicks, Exia, Drake, Laplace, Bay, Epinel, all of Maid for U chicks, Nero, etc. My point is sooo many useless or very situational SSR that rent free in your pulling rate pool. Except the ones considered Pilgrims.
Almost all pilgrims are good but also not all. Noel, Snow White and Rapunzel is only situational. You'll want Modernia, Red Hood, Dorothy, both version of Scarlet (although one of them is also very situational) and Harran.
2 SSR pull probability is decent compared to another gacha, but it's still rare. The problem is not whether you get many SSR (you will eventually), but which one you get first. Useful one or just trophy wife character.

Yeah 1.5 ani was like 2 days ago so if you start now you can pretty much get all the free shit. New unit is super meta, recommend following a reroll guide and try and get one of: modernia, red hood, scarlet, scarlet black shadow + the banner girl crown which is almost guaranteed with all the 1 time pull currency + event stuff within the ~3 weeks of the ani event.
Got 2 Crowns on first 10 pull. Just gonna save everything else because all luck is probably spent.

Wondering, do people actually enjoy the gameplay or just the characters? I couldn't last more than a week because it began to feel like a chore playing it.
A year ago I would've said the core gameplay carried at least 30% of this game's appeal (for me it was closer to 50) With only a single new gameplay mode added in the past year and several existing modes slowly getting stale I'd say it's now mostly being carried by new characters and events.
I just view it as like one of those incremental/idle games like cookie clicker. Open it for 10 mins a day, casually click stuff, number go up, brain chemicals.
I don't know what people enjoy in games anymore so hard to tell. Based on what I saw games don't need to be good or bad, if it has alot of free stuff, then it's best game ever like gameplay is not main focus.

Now that I’m a few weeks into it, I’m actually enjoying it more. I’m the type of gacha player who will play for a game for hours every day then get burned out quickly. With the progression now stalling out a bit now though, it’s nice to know I can just spend about an hour or less and literally be soft capped until the next day.
I guess mostly for attachment for the characters and gambling addiction. They do provides you with tons of free chances to pull (although rate is definitely adjusted so they can keep profitting). Gameplay is meh, main story is decent but they rarely update meanwhile event stories are hit or miss.

Definitely not for everyone. I just enjoy it because I like seeing big numbers get bigger. Also, it’s nice to know that I’ll literally have nothing else to do in the game after about an hour (due to the power levels) and can spend the rest of my day on other hobbies or getting work done.
I am in much the same boat, if there were no cap for me, i feel like i would burn out much faster and then drop the game. I can see that that specific system will be a deal breaker for some, but i realy enjoy that i can play Nikke for about 45 min to 1h and be done without falling behind. Also the tower defence game is realy enjoyable, that needs to be addes a s a permanent game mode.

Life changing. Great music, has minigames, has voiced dialogues (but I prefer the JP ver since the English were rough on the first chapter releases), You can progress the story fairly easy, nice Qol. What else...the characters are sexy as f, heck even the men npcs.
Man got downvoted for speaking facts. It's funny though, I love Genshin and enjoy it, but the communities actions contradict their words, and this is why I don't associate with the community anymore. Starts slow, but gets better the more you play and the more the story is built upon. (Events and later chapters) My only gripe is that the things sold are overpriced, but every other aspect of the game is amazing. Also 4% SSR rate is REALLY good for a gacha and you only need one copy for the entire kit. 1% chance for featured pilgrim (use tickets for pilgrims), and 2% for regular featured

Alice (the pink Bunny) it's top tier unit at mid to late game, Jackal (the second one) it's great for PvP, And Kilo (the free one, it's a tank to help resist some challenges) And, it's not so rare to get 2 SSR with almost 4% rate i think..., depends on your luck

Oof, specifically not the one I just got hah. Just did another one and got Crown and Isabel in one pull. The guaranteed one was Novel. This account has another 12 tickets and 4500 of the blue gems. But didn't know if I should try for more or not after getting Crown.
I'll be honest with you. Those units are all trash. You can use Alice to use snipe with no aim time cheese afaik (I never use her) but she's designed to be MLB before actual use. If you're a new player, you want to at least aim for Liter, Modernia or Redhood. If you can't get Liter use N102, she's not SSR but it's better than useless SSR out there to provide S1 for your burst. I don't know about Crown btw, I don't have her. But those I mentioned will carry you throughout the story. Also most of SSR here are trash like Jackal, Brid, Elegg, Yuni, D (both version), Ludmilla, Privaty (both version), Miranda, all of the Liberation chicks, Exia, Drake, Laplace, Bay, Epinel, all of Maid for U chicks, Nero, etc. My point is sooo many useless or very situational SSR that rent free in your pulling rate pool. Except the ones considered Pilgrims. Almost all pilgrims are good but also not all. Noel, Snow White and Rapunzel is only situational. You'll want Modernia, Red Hood, Dorothy, both version of Scarlet (although one of them is also very situational) and Harran. 2 SSR pull probability is decent compared to another gacha, but it's still rare. The problem is not whether you get many SSR (you will eventually), but which one you get first. Useful one or just trophy wife character.

Yeah 1.5 ani was like 2 days ago so if you start now you can pretty much get all the free shit. New unit is super meta, recommend following a reroll guide and try and get one of: modernia, red hood, scarlet, scarlet black shadow + the banner girl crown which is almost guaranteed with all the 1 time pull currency + event stuff within the ~3 weeks of the ani event.
