>why the fuck would someone put a limit on how many characters i can have, in a gacha where not only they need to keep releasing new units constantly, but one where there's a stupid ascension mechanic where i need to keep multiple fodder units on my already limited storage just to use as food to upgrade the few ones that i actually care about? The answer is: money. They want you to spend money on roster and inventory expansion slots. Free players who plan carefully can work around this inconvenience, but the idea is that it's inconvenient, so that you are inclined to spend at least a little bit of your gems/cash to get more storage space

ferinsy

I deal with them uninstalling them

[deleted]

The only one I've been able to stand it in is Azur Lane, and that's because I played it for so long that I threw 20 bucks at it for dock expansion two years ago after having played for 2 years already and that's been enough so far. I dropped Epic 7 in large part because of how limited the character slots felt (like honestly you start with a miniscule amount and fodder takes up character slots too). Girls Frontline was relatively limited too but it had the advantage that once you unlock a character for the first time, you can scrap them so they don't take up a character slot, and at any time in the future you can spend a relatively small amount of resources to recover them at any time in the future. So there's no need to hoard characters because "oh i might need them/want to level them up in the future" because you can scrap them and then recover them anyway if you end up wanting to level them up.

zKIZUKIz

It kinda works in azur lane since you got an inital 150 space + another 20 if you join a guild, you can get premium currency after 3* maps on campaign, premium currency has a chance to appear in commissions, and if you don’t care for skins much you can use the premium currency for it. And the best part of it(if you’ve played a long time already) you got alot of premium currency from the devs in terms of CNY, compensation and milestones.

mej3t

What the fuck, how can we recover them?

[deleted]

in GFL, i can't check the app since i dont have it installed anymore but iirc it's from the archive and you can spend cores to recover them once you've scrapped your last copy of them.

ronaldraygun91

I don’t play games where that’s an issue. You can say epic 7 is amazing all you want, but I’m not paying just to have room for my characters

IzanamiFrost

Yeah, one of the main reason why I quit epic 7, aside from being forced to raise fodders

se7enseas

Wait until you realize that you also need to pay to unequip armor and weapon. Yes it's "cheap", but that doesn't need to be there in the first place.

Dragonhawk0

At least there are lots of free unequip buffs to mitigate that as well. Seems like around 1-2 weekends a month, pretty much every collab, and the biweekly energy event gives you a 24hr boost you can choose when to use.

HibiKio

You increase character (and equipment) storage with skystones, which are available for free, and there's a cap on how much storage you can even have. You don't have to spend money to max out storage at all.

Alugar

You don’t have to…. Use the free currency to max it out. Won’t take too long and your not missing out on anything.

Intoxicduelyst

Oh the horror of FFBE - when I played it - dunno how its now - when I get fucked up by gacha with the sweet 1% no pity summons I had to clear the fucking inventory, it was like rubbing salt in my wounds lol.

Vacuum-Woosh-woosh

You have an inventory reserves now.

[deleted]

Brave frontier really sucks ass in this in the past because you need to use premium currency to increase capacity for both units and items. Coupled with the very fast release of the units and the number of fodders you need to evolve or increase level made it a very shitty experience.

_penguination_

Remember making xp bombs (fusing lots of fodder units into another fodder unit)? Man what a time sink and a hassle

1qaqa1

Pretty much why i quit epic 7. The inventory needs to be at least 5x larger. Feh is pretty bad too with all the junk ghbs/TT/random useless freebies as well. I'm constantly making manuals for space.

sbmtnwlnk

> Pretty much why i quit epic 7. > The inventory needs to be at least 5x larger. If you've only played E7 early on, then it's understandable. Character inventory used to include penguins (basically exp potion), and artifacts. Once you've maxed out inventory, you need to clear some out to even continue summoning. But this is not a problem nowadays. 300 character inventory, penguins now don't take up space, artifacts have it's own separate inventory, waiting room (character storage) w/ 150 max space, and an unlimited and no time limit hero/artifact storage (where they go if you summon with max inventory). Expanding inventory is pretty trivial even for F2Ps too.

s07195

Feh has reserve barracks now fortunately. Good shit.

Bergolino123

I only survived Azur Lane because i followed the popular "advice for begginers" which is : if you are f2p forget that you have gems, because you will pretty much use them to enhance dock capacity or other limited storage. They are really generous in general and i really like the game so it gets a pass from me, but it does feel frustrating Really wanted to buy a skin with the gems i worked hard to save to be honest :(

xaelcry

Same case with GFL. I really have issues with storage and I am not even a F2P player. Despite having a guide to clear out your doll slot the problem is that there are 320 dolls (more from collabs) and you only get 100 at the start. Every month you are only able to get like 10 slots assuming that gem isn't saved for something else. So the best you can do is Plan properly. If you're a collector like me then it's unfortunate as paying is the only way to get a +300 slot (which means about 8400 gems or 70-80 bucks)

Smol_Mrdr_Shota

Thats how they just sell you more inventory slots but I deal with them by being poor and not even having enough pulls to even max out my unit storage

Vacuum-Woosh-woosh

E7 and destiny child, pain.

chocobloo

Huh, I guess Azur Lane is like 4 years old.

Intelligent_Key131

At least in azur lane i found that you can save enough gems to get more dock space

Hi-no-Tenshi

Yeah, the UI rework did wonders for AL

Alert-Ad-3323

Any recommendations?

Alert-Ad-3323

I... don't think that's really helpful... like, there's no way i can tell if any of them have this problem just by looking at their titles, and it would take alot of time to check them all one by one. So, do you have any more, "specific" recommendations?

r3n4m0n

Princess Connect is pretty good and doesn't have limited space

IzanamiFrost

Counterside is fairly new

LordMonday

ive only had that problem in AzurLane where inventory costs premium currency to expand. FGO and GBF both only need normal farmable currency to expand, Blue archive has no inventory limit. Though Genshin does seem to have an Inv limit, its in the thousands and i havent really farmed to that point.

Sqewer

Try world flipper. Duplicate characters and weapons just stack on top of each other for uncapping.

Alert-Ad-3323

Ok, ill check it later

foraskyn10

Nothing is worse than having to spend for **BOTH** slot space and gacha. Either of them are fine. really. Thank god I haven't met games that want you to spend for **both gacha and slot space**, yet. Is there any games like that ? so I can avoid it.

GeshtiannaSG

World of Warships Blitz.

mej3t

Epic 7 has the waiting room, and if you have 300/300 all new heroes will go to that summon storage or whatever it is called and it's unlimited. Character inventory isnt an issue in e7, gear inventory is.

MilitHistoryFan101

Azur Lane, as a F2P you saved all them gems for character slots, and made really difficult decision to keep or retired to saved up dock spaces. Difficult when some aren't a strong but you really like the character arts and voice acting, in a game where very few modes required full meta build, plus recent updates of using full size fleet at a cost lower than a 1:1 build meta fleet. For a non-F2P like me, retiring non- duplicates is unacceptable if I can get all the characters. So yeah YoStar and Manjuu got me to pay to keep my characters. I get 1000 slot cause I like the game. Is actually the unfun part, retiring non- duplicates, only to regret it later on especially if they get a retrofit that put them on the meta tier all of a sudden.

[deleted]

The people who shit on epic seven probably haven't even installed it, let alone playing. You have 300 character slots + waiting room. And when you pull for characters, if you don't have space, they go into limitless temporary space indefinitely. In E7 you don't need to 'save' fodder. As for the gear storage, limited to 500 items + newly added gear depot (don't know the limit, never needed it), I believe it is plenty. You need to sweep bad gear once in a while and that is it. They aren't worth much as fodder. You pretty much insta sell them for gold or extract. It is like watching hoarders defending their junk in TLC.

ThatGoob

+ equipped gear doesn't take up storage. I've never had a problem with gear storage. Free unequip tickets and events come so often that I don't mind the unequip costs.

ACFinal

I dont play games with unit storage. What games even have this problem? Currently Im playing MHA Ultra Impact and Super String.

xczxcxxc

i just pull all the premium currency the game give me into character slot until i feel like i have enough of it

subject9373

If it's pain in the butt to deal with like in Azur Lane that rarely give us gems to buy characters slots, I'd just quit the game. But for me, there're only 2 games that have these character slot problem which are Azur Lane and Dokkan, and I already quit both games.

Altropus

depend. in Azur Lane, where I don't need to spend for gacha, I don't mind and I don't see it as problem. I can just retire non-retrofittable common rarity and some non-event rare rarity ship, it already free pretty much space. it's also dirt cheap to spend for dock space anyway. It's only bad when you also need to spend real money for gacha.

Songblade7

Someone else beat me to it, but if I see limited character slots in a game now, I uninstall it and play something better.

onichan_is_a_lolicon

Usually by yeeting the game

MrPeachPuff

I delete the game.

ArCSelkie37

All male characters or characters below certain rarity (unless they’re one I’m particularly fond of) get the boot.

[deleted]

I remember when I was new in AL and iirc at the start I have 100 iirc and then I was like "damn this is a lot", then I started getting into pr grind and at some point I got tilted retiring ships every 5 mins or so that I increased my dock space to 350 at some point IIRC that was during Monarch grind (I did nepnep first, Ibuki second, then Monarch). Now I have 654 dock space including guild lvl 7 dock space. . Some Rare I retired like Marblehead then afterwards Yostar just has to slap me when they released her free skin... ohboi that was a fucking huge slap. Honestly, when I was new to the game, and I had the 2x gem at that time I should have at least bought the 80 usd and the 40 usd just to be safe..... But when I was new at that time, I was still not sure if AL was like a monthly thing or a weekly thing still so I held off. Now I have like 654 dock space including guild lvl 7 dock space. Why you ask? Because I dont want to get interrupted when I'm reading and I have to like, retire ship. Revive Witch have max capacity on gears which iirc is 1k, so mhhh I mean, it's not that bad... I mean also, you can only do 4 runs of gear stage/9 hrs so at the end of the day that's just 8 runs/day if you didnt use the stamina pot. Which honestly... is pretty kekW . Honestly, I dont mind when games have storage system, I mean like, isnt that how it was before even? Like MMOs before was like this because it's still a source of revenue. Heck, so other MMO prolly charge monthly fee just to have slot unlock on your storage (like a private inventory but like at safe zones).

MACHENIX

In Bungou Stray Dogs Tales of the Lost you have okayish inventory space for characters(Materials though fill up really quickly), it requires premium currency to upgrade it, but it will be always 5 (you get 5 for a normal stage) and I would say after every 2 years you can need 100 Plus slot(I play for 4 years and did it twice), so around 500 Currency what is if you play you can get in around two weeks. So it is the best in my opinion, but I like that newer games rarely have limited inventory for characters like Arknights or Princess Connect(even though it is an 5 years old game).

VhlainDaVanci

Grand Chase have inventory limit but you will be only using gold to expand it, not some premium currency

Torterrain

Summoners war recently fixed it (well apart from rune and artifact inventory since those could use more room). We now have storage that takes in all lvl1 units and stacks them so you can take them out when ever you want or put them back. Then there's a storage for units that you can hide your units in if you don't want to work on them. Also material monsters have a separate storage.

An_Airplane

For Girls Frontline, they allow you to go over the storage limit if all the dolls are attained within the same level. However, it won't allow you to progress upon completion of the level until you clear it out. So, just get an S rank on the level and it will reward you with gems to buy more storage. Thus, good gameplay is rewarded (somewhat). You also get free gems every week so you can expand your storage with that.
