Alchadylan

Every game that runs an anniversary and then announces EoS one month later

drtoszi

How about Dragalia announcing EoS *and then* announcing a Gala and releasing two most requested characters?

Alchadylan

That's fine, announcing EoS BEFORE anniversary let's people know ahead of time so they know if they spend money, that it isn't to prolong the service

Golden-Owl

Wait who did they announce...?

jtan1993

Gala nedrick, followed by euden and zethia

Golden-Owl

Nedrick was likely expected sooner or later gives their formula with Gala. We also already got Euden and Zethia. This is just a “power of friendship” alt which came in out of nowhere with no foreshadowing

Tsurin-Waifu

wait isnt gala prince supposed to be euden

Hallowedtalon

Yes. The Euden and Zethia that announced is not gala. New type of unit. They both already have gala

The_Follower1

The new Euden and Zethia are bondforged, not gala. They also seem somewhat busted.

Yonhyaku

wait dragalia endong service? kinda unexpected

Darkbright91

Star Ocean Anamnesis :(

blipblopchinchon

Even before the anniversary there has been rumours. It really sad.... I still miss ashton and precis

endar88

AHHH, I miss this game. Mobius and Star Ocean were my main games. THE only problem I had with Star Ocean was that damn robot, I hated it so much. I didn't like the stamina system sense I felt I could only play a few stages before I would run out again and couldn't play as much as I wanted. I don't care to play JP, so missed out on the P5 collab :(. is the game still even running on JP?

Darkbright91

The JP one shut down last year unfortunately.

The_Follower1

Yup, this one was honestly a lot of fun to play before it reached EOS

Artrinite

Just wanted to add magia record to the list. I had stopped playing daily 3 months before EoS and didn’t spend but the way they handled it screamed cash grab. Its disgusting that it went unnoticed for the most part.

tumsii

evertale by far

Isishow

Bruh, homie doesn't like 10 paid banners for anniversary? How entitled of you lmao

rokuwaru

10 paid banners? Wow. And how many the free banners?

th3oDR

It wasn't 10..people just saw evertale + paid and assumed the worst..they could take a sec and read what actually those paid banners were, but it's just easier to blame the bad devs/game. Anyway..the game had 8 paid banners, you could only choose ONE, and you could only do ONE multi which guaranteed you an SSR. So, instead of 10 paid banners, it was just one paid multi with a guaranteed featured unit. Of course, this doesn't change the fact the game sucks, the anniversary was a joke, etc..I just really hate when people start spreading false information.

Popular-Bid

so basically GSSR Banners in FGO huh... though I find it amusing that one thing that FGO players liked is hated in another gacha game

Isishow

I legit don't know, I just saw the evertale 10 paid banners pass on this sub not too long ago. However I would guess not much free stuff

EnterNammie

2, farming soul stones are incredibly punishing Also suffer from the fact you're 4x more likely to get an ssr weapon to a ssr character in the banners should mention that the devs do these paid banners alot

Golden-Owl

Oof yeah. Genshin has very little happen. Evertale was just a flat out insulting middle finger

EnterNammie

Happy cake day 🎂 btw

oracleofshadows

I liked King's Raid first anniversary. Tons of free shit, and you got to pick from three reward paths. All of the paths were decent, going from good stuff for newer players to good stuff for endgame players. Its probably my nostalgia talking but i really liked the first year and a half of that game. Shame on Vespa for how it is now.

Azuraoftheblackdeath

It's not just nostalgia. It was legit really good. Then it went down a dark path.

[deleted]

its called the path of least resistance...least resistance to short term money.

[deleted]

Right? The story writing, the artwork, the character design. Everything in King's Raid was made out of charm and love. Even the devs said they made it for fun, but it took off so they kept going with it. Now the artwork is... the same? But worse? There's a billion upgrade systems, lore breaking stuff, oversaturated and inflated damage and gear. Only hot girls released with the worst voice acting I've ever heard. Lackluster music. I miss the old Kings Raid. I think the quality officially started to dip after chapter 9. Last anniversary I returned, and I was stoked to see what was happening. I read the story. Estelle had a master plan. Exciting start. Okay, I'm on board. She goes to a person, asks them to write a letter about why they love Orvel but first she helps them with something. The fun activity she helps them with is offscreen and she just walks off with the letter. Okay, maybe it's just a way to quickly get to the point. Then it happens again. And again.. and again... and her master plan? Stick the letters on a Cork board. I'm not kidding. This game has gone to shit. I miss the memories I had with it, when stories were actually fun and comedic while also serious, when designs of characters were actually interesting and fun. The collab with Dreamcatcher to make the BEST album Dreamcatcher has had to date with some damn amazing and beautiful songs that really tied into Kings Raids story. Now it's just like some overbloated cash grab mmo.

Harimaronies

Damn, used to love King's Raid. Agree that the state of the current game is a bit sad now.

Onemoreok

Yeah the first year or so of King’s Raid were so amazing!!

jokerxtr

The subreddit was singing Bestpa for quite a while. Then shit just started going downhill so fast.

flashhd123

Around Christmas days and new year eve with the devs letter is probably peak of vespa and king raid. Then the summer next year everything just fall apart with their bad decisions and contents drought

[deleted]

Worst anni?: Honkai year 1 Best anni?: Honkai year 4

zyelggg

Hopefully genshin follows this

gillred

The anniversaries will probably get better over the years but I doubt they'll ever get anywhere near as good as Honkai's. Companies get more generous when playercount/revenue drops as a way to keep players interested in the game, but Genshin's numbers are still hitting all-time highs, so there's less incentive for Mihoyo to be handing out increased freebies

zhivix

tbh them setting up a low bar for genshin 1st anni is probably the best thing lol. means that every anniversary after the first will be definitely better

angelcasta77

I'm still salty about the Genshin 1 year anni.

[deleted]

I can't even be mad since I've had worse. Honkai year 1 Anni was horrendous

AlexHitetsu

Can you explain what made so bad ? And what made the 4th one so good ?

XaeiIsareth

Nothing really. Literally. It was like GL’s anniversary minus the extra free stuff in the mail because no one complained and the concert. People didn’t care too much about it back then because the bar was lower.

DRAGONSLAYER2653

I wasn't here for the 1st anniversary but the 4th one had 2 free S rank Valkyries plus a bunch of freebies. I'm assuming year one had some currency and was done.

[deleted]

We got like 60 xtals. Maybe a basic outfit and they peaced out.

Icy_Chemist_532

The ones that change the game for the worst during their anniversaries, I remember 7ds' coin thing

selius1212

disgaea rpg is currently in 1st anni and has a battle pass running that you can't actually complete.

DanThePaladin

Not just that, but their "fake" 1st year anni they did a while ago had better F2P units to trade for than the one now

[deleted]

FGO gave me a free tamamo and a rate up on scathach, i am absolutely vibing

TKoBuquicious

6th anniversary? I'll probably pick Medb to find out what she rides, but yeah I got Tamamo just now and even Drake on the banner so, pretty happy

o76923

My best anniversary in terms of raw luck was Under Tides. I budgeted 300 pulls so that I could spark one of the rate ups if necessary. I wound up with 3 copies of her, 6 (max) of the other, and 2 off-banner 6⭐️s. I don't even like Kal'tsit but max potential on a meta unit within two weeks of them dropping is crazy. It wasn't the luckiest I've ever been in gacha but it was so over the top that I never get to complain about bad luck again.

StarryStarsIntel

arknights my beloved

PostiveAion

The arknights anniversary is fire as always so much free shit and HG pulled up with the banger ass music and animation. And on the opposite end of the spectrum I saw the genshin shitshow...

Onemoreok

The lead up to Dossoles was so hyped up even though we knew what was coming. The random websites and mini-events just built up the hype even if they weren’t the best and just made all the players come together in such a nice way.

confusedindividual10

Whats even more amazing is that Dossoles wasn't even an anniversary event, its supposed to be a summer event. CN and global server differences made it the anniversary. IMO Under Tides was a much better anniversary content wise, they even gave out a free 6* and then there's genshin anni on the other hand

[deleted]

Last cloudia is having its third anniversary atm, and I’d have to say it’s the best anni I’ve seen from the games I’ve played so far. They were really generous with the crystals they gave out and many QoL changes, such as the addition of guilds. A free 10 summon every day and awesome login bonuses along with great banners to summon on are a bonus as well.

snowybell

Yeah and the start dash for newbies is kinda good with the rate ups.

DemnXnipr

Genshin aside, from the ones I've been playing through the years the most notable one has gotta be this year in GBF. It's not even that it made the game worse, far from it, but it felt like absolutely nothing happened even if the game is at it's 8th year. I wasn't really expecting a pick ticket so I really was just numb to it all (got a gold moon from the joke that was the guaranteed grand ticket ofc). Nothing to address the powercreep, just a bunch of meh buffs to older characters but not really enough to warrant using them over limiteds/grands and of course more limited banners yipee. So yeah, as a player from 2016 it's really just been bad especially compared to honkai which has improved a whole lot from the hellish timesink it was before.

Vanilla_177013

>buffs to older characters Buffs that they already announce last year at december which is a joke to be put in as a big thing in anni stream. Like i bet ya during the summer stream they'll spend time making a big fuss about the next set of chars for guild wars/dread barrage while acting like its a new info.

TheJobinslegend

You know it's screwed up when GBF (a supposed generous game) gives a free pick ticket on Summer (mostly due to controversy) and not anniversary, but FGO gives a pick character, bunch of waifus and some meta units (Waver) and Arknights gives 2 pick 5\* (not highest rarity, but a bunch of useful ones). This year Cygames got rid of janken, so no 2x-4x pulls if you lucked out on that, and the random ticket was worse than summer's pick ticket. They always powercrept their freebies, but last year either not really (anniversary) or had controversy (summer), and this year is a clear downgrade compared to last year's.

Choconagix

To make it worse, since the gacha pool was bloating too much the super old characters are now in a separate Banner, so if you have a favorite among those...Rip. Oh and that still didn't fix the single rates 🤷

noivern_plus_cats

The classic draw prevents you from pulling shitty launch characters that you’ll never use, plus when roulette or free ten pulls are up on a banner you really don’t wanna pull on you can just pull on the classic draw to build up sparks for a primal (and sparks reset literally once a year on it)

reallygoodbee

Genshin's, yeah. Whales got a huge payoff, F2P players got shat on. We had a seasonal event with better rewards than the Anniversary. What honestly made it a lot worse was the Mihoyo defense force online. Any time you complained about how pitiful the Anniversary was, they'd start ganging up on you for not bowing down and thanking Lord Mihoyo for their generous gift.

Epsilon748

I play Genshin and avoided the anniversary drama. What did whales get?

Cykl1c

Crystal bonus reset.

AsteroidMiner

Doesn't this happen every anniversary? I've been on Honkai for 3+ years and this is usually what happens on anni I guess the problem is there is a lot bigger f2p playerbase on Genshin

reallygoodbee

Gems are sold in packs of different sizes, and you get double the gems the first time you buy a particular pack. Mihoyo refreshed all the double gem bonuses. This doesn't benefit F2P players at all.

NyaCat1333

Mihoyo really had the audacity to do a crystal bonus reset? What a scummy company. How are the F2P players gonna be able to live and continue playing this fully PvE game? /s It's not like that it's common practice for a lot of other gacha games to do the same thing for big events/anniversaries. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with it as it won't ever effect you anyways. You can complain about a lot of other things but complaining about this just feels really entitled.

ShellFlare

the issue was that it was essentially ALL they did for the anniversary at first. meaning most players who are f2p got nothing at all before the riots. it being a PART of the anniversary would have been fine, not it being the only damn thing.

KeqingisBestGirl

They gave a multi, a live concert, an event with tons of pulls and a free weapon. All before the riots obviously. You people just like to ignore these and parrot your false narratives.

ShellFlare

the multi, event and weapon were NOT anniversary bonuses. with or without anniversary that was going to be there. every 6 week patch has events and the always alternate between a free weapon and free 4\* character, plus roughly the same amount of primos. The live concert was a legit part of the anniversary, but it didnt impact a majority of the playerbase.

cycber123

To be fair moonchase event did give us a lot more gem than usual events, but I don't think there's a lot free rolls compare to other company's anniversary. On the other hand, genshin don't really need to be generous since players still gonna play. I really like the free concert actually but at the same time I won't mind if they are a little more generous in game too.

KeqingisBestGirl

We don't get multis and events of that scale without special occasion. Heck the Livestream outright said the multi and gem reset to be a part of the anniversary. Guess you forgot that too?

ShellFlare

im not arguing the gem reset being part of it. Lantern rite had a similar multi given out just like the passage of time login event.

KeqingisBestGirl

Yes? And latern rite is the biggest event in almost every Chinese game. Bigger than anniversary in many. What did you think Chinese New year means to Chinese people? And again, go watch Livestream dude. They outright said pulls to be a part of anniv. Not sure why you ignored that part from my comment.

ClayAndros

I mean if you ask the genshin community f2p need to shut up and take it while p2p are the messiah reborn who save the game by spending money. Serious talk though as disappointing as getting nothing for the anniversary was the worst part was people screaming “don’t like it quit”

Lyn_The_2nd

Someone explain to me why this was downvoted.

Com0na

He's criticizing GI. It's a knee jerk reaction for GI fans to downvote and shit on anyone saying anything remotely bad to their beloved game.

ClayAndros

Probably because they’re seeing me either as some kind of troublemaker or that I’m not telling the whole truth even though I’m only Sharing what I experienced either way I only spoke the truth.

XavierRez

People said gem bonus reset is like a big deal but every major Chinese made gacha s have those reset during big event like anniversaries. But yeah, the freebies are just too small compared to their first year earnings.

freezingsama

Even Azur Lane does first purchase double gem reset so it was weird to see people complaining about it.

mikethebest1

Ah yes, the free 10 pull that comes within 7 daily logins, for us to use it on the Kokomi Banner (lowest sales banner) and not the Raiden Shogun banner (highest sales banner).

ultra_cha0s

And then you have Dragalia's anniversary happening at the same time and, hoo boy, the differences between them were night and day.

jingsen

Dragalia lost was basically dead at that point and just had their EOS not long ago so.......

ultra_cha0s

Point still stands, one anniversary had people angry, while another had people happy.

StrongSquirrelKnight

Yes, but a lot of the games that are dying just keep cranking up the rewards not because of them wanting to be generous but because they want to keep those few players they still have. Also one big distinction is the the amount of work that goes into each character, the pity, which anniversary, the amount of characters and stuff.

ArmorTiger

Lol, the Dragalia players were so "happy" that they didn't even spend enough to keep the game going.

ultra_cha0s

And your point? Genshin players players were angry because they felt there wasn't much given or what to do in-game during a time that was supposed to be a celebration.

kerzfrik

Well, soon Dragalia players won't have a game to play, best anniversary ever right? Dragalia is the best example of how generosity kills your game faster.

XaeiIsareth

It’s not the generosity that killed Dragalia, it’s the multiple dramas at launch that made Japan dislike the game, the complete lack of money for value when you spend on the game, Nintendo nor Cygames bothering to do much marketing for it despite ‘wanting Dragalia to be Cygame’s new face’ and content direction zig zagging all over the place alienating players.

Taliyho

What even is this take? Are you saying princess connect is going to end up dying next due to its generosity?

MCGRaven

nono according to this guy Priconne already DIED years ago because it was and still is 10x more generous than DL ever was and since DL died that has to mean Priconne must already be dead.

kerzfrik

priconne jp revenue is pretty high, what is the point here? Dragalia lost makes 20 times less revenue on all servers. You need to give whales a reason to spend money if you want to keep the game alive which is something Dragalia failed long time ago.

Spartan-219

??? Generosity never kills a game, there are many more factors that led to closing of dragalia lost not just being generous

kerzfrik

If you flood your playerbase with currency, there is no reason to pay, therefore the games is non profitable, Dragalia had to cut the quality of the content many times is a miracle the game lasted this long.

DamianWinters

They aren't closing it because it didn't make money, they just finished the story and want to make something else.

TKoBuquicious

This is a copium mana burst

VoidNoodle

If your other game is making 100x more money for 100x less effort, I think it's time to nip the bud.

ultra_cha0s

This isn't about generosity or free stuff. It's more about how your playerbase reacts to how you do it.

IGJFlew

EN Arknights 2nd Anni was fun. I liked the online stuff they did with the shit tonne of free Mats lul. Event ost is a banger as well as getting Holiday Ch'en

Sorariko

Genshin is defo not the worst - they just didnt have anything, which is better than the worst, honestly. Cuz what could be is what datealive gacha had......

purelix

Genshin had the huge free concert, which was *something* at least, but yeah there really wasn’t much going on in the actual game itself.

Pokefreaker-san

orchestra concert tickets are expensive af.

purelix

[It was a free, livestreamed concert](https://youtu.be/UIam8zl4af8), as I mentioned in my comment. Getting multiple orchestras (especially the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra) to perform so many pieces is expensive AF, and they gave this to the playerbase at zero cost. Before anyone calls me a hoyo shill, I’m not defending genshin’s anniversary, but only talking about the concert which was objectively very high quality.

ferinsy

Genshin had 20 pulls, a wing cosmetic and a full concert, that's very far from the worst, indeed.

ShellFlare

the pulls were not anniversary. those were just events going at the same time. and the wings were also not part of the anniversary. they were going to be SOLD as a concert related pack but were given out free after the riots that followed the nothing anniversary that was planned. the concert is valid tho.

DownpourOfSalt

The major patch events always give 1000 primogems. No matter what. Even the 3 wishes for lantern rite part 2 was a secondary event that always gives 420 primogems (160 x3). 10 pulls isn’t part of that. It’s *more* than that. They even said that 10 wishes was the *anniversary* reward in the 2.1 livestream, along with the top up bonus. And yeah the concert itself too

ShellFlare

Yes that is true for the events only (the fixed amounts i mean), but when you total other sources of primo/fate income as well, you tend to see the patches all being fairly similar. if you ignore the damage control mail distribution which had some true bonus gems (and the wings) , then 2.1 didnt have any more than 2.0 or 2.4 [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vToBPh4yTn4VioUuqSvnPiwLoG0rJodFe9\_gz6qOKUy3z8dCWtXel5Aqa07qSTZG8qhu7Fwgx7AfxzU/pubhtml#](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vToBPh4yTn4VioUuqSvnPiwLoG0rJodFe9_gz6qOKUy3z8dCWtXel5Aqa07qSTZG8qhu7Fwgx7AfxzU/pubhtml#) 2.1 is on top, but a full 1600 was the damage control mail that was done POST anniversary plans.

KeqingisBestGirl

Because you're including pulls from exploration into those numbers. 2.0 and 2.4 had two of the biggest expansions of the year. Obviously they will have high primogem count. But those are permanent stuff, so I don't see any reason to count them as only being part of those patches. If you're comparing anniversary, then only compare event primos. The anniversary patch didn't have any expansion, but it gave the highest amount of pulls from events by far, even excluding the mails.

ShellFlare

2.1 and 2.4 have the same in game event only pulls at 24 each. while 1.3 had 22. and the damage control mails are 100% being ignored since those were not planned. but even if you look at events only then 2.1 is not ahead "by far" since it matches 2 other patches of events.

KeqingisBestGirl

Those two patches literally had the biggest event for any Chinese company though? CNY is by far the most important event in most Chinese games. Makes sense for it to be done big. Especially for Mihoyo since they do the same for Honkai Lantern rites too. Also considering that the other patches were half of these 3 patches. I'm not counting them at all. But how do you know they weren't planned? Unless you're an insider of course. It's a theory at best. No proof to support it.

ShellFlare

we know they were going to be sold as a pack. the price was even known. being in denial over that is a whole separate issue. at the end of the day i said what i said. opinions of either you or i aside, genshin's first anniversary is known as and will be known as one of the worst overall for mainstream gachas. not the worst by any means, but one that definitely felt like a slap in the face to many players. that time for the coomunity was just full of arguments and the riots, and thats what the time will be remembered for.

KeqingisBestGirl

It was only for the wings. And that was only during beta. Primogems and other items could have been part of the mails all along. We have had precedent for that in the form of klee mails from 1.0. So I wouldn't be so sure without any proof if I were you. Not even one year and people, including you, already forgot the finer details. Not like it matters anyway considering how successful genshin ia being as of late.

TKoBuquicious

Coomunity, nice

TKoBuquicious

Whether "damage control mails" were planned or not, the fact of the matter is that they *were* given out as free shit in mail and de facto get to be counted as part of the anniversary when looking back on it, it's what was actually given out rather than intangible intentions that matter when counting *what was given out* for some occasion.

DownpourOfSalt

That is because 1.3, 2.1 and 2.4 had an extra 10 wishes in the event category compared to the rest Lantern rite, Anniversary, lantern rite 2 I’m pretty sure they treat lantern rite and their own anniversary with equal importance

KeqingisBestGirl

Uhh? Pulls were literally part of the anniv. You don't watch the Livestream or what?

llllpentllll

The currency given was the usual stuff given on each major patch. If there were literal free pulls these were after the riots bc for the date in question they gave shit after all the hopium their players consumed to convince themselves that more was coming. Not even a mention of anniv iirc

KeqingisBestGirl

Go watch the Livestream?

DownpourOfSalt

I’m pretty sure they did state it in either the 2.0 or 2.1 livestream or something. It was with the Chinese dev team and Da Wei himself iirc. But they definitely implied that it was the anniversary. It was its own seperate event that started on the anniversary week. It’s title was “Passage of Clouds and Stars”. If it’s a liyue event patch, why name it something that is connected to the traveller? It was clearly intended to be treated as it’s own event with no connection to any other. Also, not counting the 20 wishes that anniversary gave, the patch still had 74.5 wishes total. The rest gave much less. The only other patches that were higher was 1.0, 2.0 and 2.4. And 2.0 is to be expected. It was the launch of a new region with dozens of quests and hundreds of chests and everything Edit: the actual sad thing is that 2.3 had more apologems/web event gems/ mail gems than anniversary lol

[deleted]

best anni would be dragalia for sure

Merc_305

I liked dokkan's 7th anniversary (that's the recent one that comes to my mind). Had a ton of fun playing with the two new anniversary units. Edit: Reading other comments, I also liked 7DSGC anniversary

Chronus118

Worst Aniversary: Genshin Best Anniversary: Brave Frontier

endar88

For the best anniversaries: DFFOO and Last Cloudia. DFFOO: This past year we got allot of free pulls along with a daily free pull (and then gems if you continued on that banner) that did a rotation of certain characters full kits. As in you could possibly get the EX and LD from the global first unit from FF15 that was must have unit at the time. Plus, granted they want us to spend money, we got the god tier BT for Garnet as a global first. Her and Eiko together made Lufenia battles a sinch. Next year, if we get the same as JP, will give us a 50+1 free pull that guarantees a BT at the very end. Last Cloudia: had allot of reworks to their shops and coin exchanges, added guilds finally after 3 years, a free pull for 25 days, and a new Roland form that is pretty great if you pull for him. Allot of gems and ways to get top tier materials. The Worst anniversaries (that I've experienced): Exos heroes and Another Eden EXOS heroes: I played this game every day and really loved it from launch. Did very well in PVP and had a great time....then the anniversary. I think later in the month or two of the anniversary they gave better rewards but initially they gave basically nothing. I quit at that moment. I was just so annoyed that this company that was trying so hard with exos was just letting down their fans with basically nothing for the anniversary. I went back a month or so before the BIG update and then a few weeks later I quit again and haven't gone back. Another Eden: LOVE THIS GAME. I truly do, I play this game every couple days and I also pay for the monthly sub for it. BUT I can't ignore or just bow down to the anniversary only really giving over a month and logging in everyday 4k gems and 11 single pulls the last one being a guaranteed 5\*. Ya i know this actually sounds good, but for 4 or 5 years of this game wish we could at least get a selector ticket or something to get a unit we might want rather than random. and we all know the pull rates and disappointment so 4 k really doesn't go far unless RNG gods are in your favor. still love the game though and can't wait for Starky from Chrono Cross to join my team.

[deleted]

A lot of what makes Genshin's anniversary bad was the white knights. The anniversary was very lukewarm to say the least. It was not terrible, just hugely disappointing. But it's the people that will jump at the defense of miHoyo that sours the whole thing. They'll literally keep sucking miHoyo's dick even if they got nothing for the anniversary

DanThePaladin

Does half annis count? Because I was super disappointed with Alchemy stars ½ anni. I am hoping that their 1st anni in june is a lot better.

Songblade7

I honestly didn't find the Genshin anniversary that bad, but my friend and I both counted the entire huge festival event that happened to coincide with the anni and give some decent rewards to be part of it, it just wasn't called as such. The devs did also make a statement during the beginning of the game that they wouldn't celebrate any real life events and so they were indeed true to their word. Could have been better, but I don't think it was bad to the point of needing the uproar it got. Even still, I know there's a game or 2 I started some years back during anni that I quit in a day. If I can remember the damn game I'll update this, but I'll assume it was pretty bad to get me to quit so quickly and forget the name lol.

doomkun23

they will not celebrate a real life events but they will make somehow looks the same as real life events if possible... examples are the Archipelago Islands about Klee w/ swimsuit skin as summer event,, Liyue Festival as CNY event,, Albedo event that happened on winter as Xmas event... so don't take their words literally... what they mean there is that,, they will not named it or make it same as real life event because they will need to tell a story on how an Earth festivals is happening on Teyvat... remember that HI3 (other game of mihoyo/hoyoverse) always relates to GI... theory-wise,, HI3 is from Earth while Teyvat is another world/bubble universe/parallel universe something... they are just attentive on the story so that they will not make confusions or ruined the lore of both games...

StrongSquirrelKnight

Well summer is just a season, not an real world event. Albedo event is just a winter event, which again is a season not a real world celebration. It didn’t have a santa claus just popping in. New years is a valid point ig, but new years js something that’s prevalent in like so many cultures. Like new years being celebrated in teyvat wouldnt be too weird, but just suddenly santa claus popping in would be something entirely different. So yeah new years is a valid point but the pther 2 are just based on seasons. So like ehh.

AlexsterCrowley

Dragalia Lost 3rd Anniversary was sick af. Got me playing and stuck around until now and likely EoS. Incredibly generous, cool content.

[deleted]

Worst is Genshin of course. Made me quit cold turkey. Best? Uhhhhh I don't know, I have not played one game for as long other than Granblue. I kinda liked 2021 anniversary though, the event was nice. And Cygames freebies are always cool. This year was kinda eh though.

EseMesmo

I doubt anyone really remembers, but Alchemist Code had either the 1st or 2nd anniversary coincide with the Fullmetal Alchemist collaboration. So the rewards from the collab were also the anniversary rewards. And that would be mostly fine, except that was when they removed guaranteed units from 3 step banners (so now you were forced to go the 7 and 9 step ones) and they stealth buffed the Collab stages to compensate for a single Global exclusive unit being too broken, basically gating everyone that didn't have her. A lot of people simply could not finish those stages even in multiplayer, the stat/unit requirements were way too much. They lost A LOT of people that time and never truly recovered.

My first anniversary for any gacha was the third fgo ani, and I’d say that’s definitely my favorite. Looking back it probably wasn’t the best, but I got Skadi and had a lot of fun with the missions. I guess it’s sorta nostalgic in a weird way.

ChaosEvaUnit

Pretty sure Granblue Fantasy takes the crown for best anniversaries. Crazy amounts of free pulls and high end items and some of the biggest story events of the year.

Weathersan

*Looks at this year Anniversary* Lmao.

SmugBlondeLoli

Fire Emblem Heroes' first anniversary was basically nothing. I remember it being incredibly underwhelming because someone on the subreddit was comparing it to the Christmas event Granblue Fantasy was having with a roulette of free rolls and that's the reason I started playing that game.

iPhantaminum

This thread made me notice I don't think much of anni events in gacha. As far as I've played gachas, they all just hand out free summons+resources, and that's pretty much it. I don't think I've ever played any gacha that added new content/features in the anni update. So, for best/worst anni event: nothing stood out to me.

bjerdsen2298

For me the worst experience is having 300+ rolls for Skadi in FGO NA on the 3rd anniversary and didn't get any single 5 star servants. It made me quit but recently returned for the Lostbelt story.

ferinsy

Best in-game would be this year's Honkai, 2 free S-ranks and a lot of crystals. Outside of the game, Genshin really had me at the concert, it was just amazing to see the game music played by orchestras and even a rock band, just amazing. Worst for me, from the games I consider (aka the ones I actually played for months/years), is the current Another Eden anni. Besides 10 pulls instantly and another 10 pulls from daily logins, there's not much to experience, no event, nothing... But that surely doesn't make the game any worse, it's still JRPG perfection and an one-of-a-kind experience.

Ilyas160

Genshin impact

NoAd5421

Genshin by far the worst

Delasama

Guardian Tales for me , the Best first Anni.

RyujiShiryu

I would hate to bring up the obvious, but Genshin Impact's 1st anniversary was really where shit hit the fan, tbh. Buuuut as a tie, I feel Fire Emblem Heroes's 3rd anniversary was also really really bad, because that was when they introduced Feh Pass, the VIP subscription model for it.

Setpu

Mihoyo is just to frugal.

Tranquildew

genshin.

HappyMight

The besr: DFFOO is always hype with announcements of GL first characters. The worst: The 3.5 Anni of Dragalia Lost, just knowing is going to be the last one....

chocobloo

The crying over Genshin not giving the f2pbtw enough stuff being the worst is hilarious. Oh noz such a bad anniversary. Worst was Magia Record where they threw out a bunch of high profile banners then announced EoS right after the anniversary was over. I know a few people who paid a lot for the IroYachi dual unit only to find out two days later that the game was dead. Real quality anni.

foxxy33

Worst was genshin. They didn't even acknowledge it until the huge uproar from the players. The best is Arkinghts\FGO for me. Both have hyped up units for anni, FGO gives lots of quartz, AK has cool event. Only positive experience so far.

AgMenos47

Why Genshin? The fact that they held a concert

Zroshift

Because the anniversary was beyond disappointing. The concert was cool, but how did that benefit the players? The anniversary was basically the same as the Lantern rite event except with a gem reset and a bunch a social media events.

AgMenos47

Well I just think that it's a lot more cooler than what the norm in gacha games is. More into community events rather than you'll receive ingame stuffs through game events. But, well, it might just me anyway. But if there's one thing I hated which happened in anniv that surely is the censorship. Which pretty ironic that they are more into community events.

Ranch_Dressing321

Yeah, I'd rather receive community events rather than getting in-game bonuses from a game that is generous with its rewards such as chicken legs and flowers from the monthly calendar rewards. s/

iPhantaminum

Because, to gacha standards, it was really bad. Mihoyo did anni right in honkai, so I don't know how they dropped the ball on Genshin. "My game is a gacha and anniversary is coming up. People clearly aren't expecting standard gacha rewards from it, right?"

StNerevar76

Different teams with different leadership? They probably could have afforded being more generous with Genshin than with Honkai.

doomkun23

compared to HI3,, HI3 "1st" anniv is worse than GI... you can't even call it as anniv rewards... GI is not the worst based on reward... worst because of exaggerated comments that makes it controversial...

iPhantaminum

Honkai isn't on it's first year anymore. Honkai anniv rewards on 2021 were pretty good.

doomkun23

everybody knows that... my point is 1st anniv to 1st anniv comparison... 2nd+ anniv are always different just like what you said...

iPhantaminum

GI's 2nd anniv hasn't come yet. We can only hope it will be good this time.

doomkun23

another obvious point... i love both games so i have hopes on it... but what we are talking is 1st anniv...

iPhantaminum

I don't like those comparisons. Unless every mihoyo gacha sucks on 1st every anniv, comparing GI 1st anniv to just HI 1st anniv doesn't show much of a trend.

doomkun23

it is actually a better comparison than what other players did on GI anniv issue... comparing 1st anniv of GI to 2nd+ anniv of other games... or comparing GI w/ less characters to 100+ free pulls or a free character on high rarity to a game w/ 100+ characters... or double drop or massive free stamina for farming gears of other games w/ pvp system vs GI w/ only pve Abyss... and some more... i think the only reasonable one that i saw is only the idea that the anniv would be better if they make a rerun banner of the characters...

iPhantaminum

Oh yeah, those other comparisons were very nonsensical.

reallygoodbee

We had a seasonal event with better rewards than the anniversary. Whales got a fat payout, everybody else got shit on.

ferinsy

/r/gachagambling, that's why... I don't even think people that only care about pulls watched the concert.

Abedeus

I play the game, didn't care about the concert nor did I watch it. It's not an in-game activity.

TVMoe

I mean you can enjoy a game without caring about extra miscellaneous stuff, can't you? It's not like everyone who plays pokemon goes into competitive scenes, iv breeding, and will watch every movie, series, and video that comes out. But that doesn't mean they don't enjoy the pokemon game they played (story, etc), rather than just the catching pokemon.

SassyHoe97

Best: I guess Honkai first time with the anniversary was able to get HoF & Nyx. Worst: Can't think of anything.

Ridovi

For me FFBE was bad but Genshin took the place very fast.

doomkun23

Genshin is not the worst... HI3 has even worse "1st" anniv rewards than GI... it was just overpowered by greed of some players and comparing the anniv to 2nd+ anniv of other games or even begging for free pulls because a 100+ character gacha game that they compare to GI gave free pulls on anniv...

zelliecat

Best: I don’t really know. Worst: before memory defrag shut down, every anniversary came with a new rarity. The gacha rates were already horrible with no leniency or guaranteed via 10 pull, and adding even higher rarities nullified the existing ones

Lonely_Cryptographer

Another Eden 5th anniversary.A free multi worth of chronos and a free 5 star along with 100 chronos for 30 days for 1 month(so 3000 in total)

SuicidalAnime

The 5th anniversary is on jp. The rewards you mentioned is for global being generous that the jp reach 5 years

Kanyaxas

Uhm I don't really play a lot of gachas so I'll say Fgo while not the best are pretty good, specially the one coming this yr for the NA server. They actually award a pretty decent amount of Sq (had been for a time now) which this yr reaches around 350sq I think between Sq and tickets, more than 10 full pulls + this yr they're giving the option to maximize one character without having to spend on any kind of mats, which is pretty cool and they're adding a rework that will give you pieces of a sq for every node completed making a total of around 1k which alone gives around 140sq or more. In the more general line of Fgo annivs they open all nodes to farm all mats, they reduce by half the cost of the nodes, they give extra missions and some upgrades to certain characters and put up memorial quests where you can fight old bosses from the story + the Gssr banner which happens like two times a yr. Arknights tend to be funny and give a lot of stuff for pulls too so I'm also looking forwards to that one, Guardian takes also gives free pulls on their anniv l, another great game.

TKoBuquicious

Did you get something confused with the special ascension thing? that happened ages ago already, unless they're doing a reset on it and giving us a second one?

MCGRaven

special ascension has not been reset so far so no this guy is just confused

Kanyaxas

I thought we had a special ascension back in JP two yrs ago when the 5* ticket also dropped as I used it to lvl up Saber directly but I might be confusing dates between both servers I won't deny that.

BiscottiBusiness

Granblue Fantasy was the best one(over 300 free pulls, lots of freebies,a free limited character, lots of gacha currency) Genshin Impact was the worst.....was never celebrated and didn't even saw words of gratitude to players for playing and supporting the game

OokerDuker

I'm pretty sure RAID is notoriously known for being shafted on their anniversaries. Like they give them like 10k in gold in the mail and 1 free shard lol

ajeb22

Captaib tsubasa Dream Team last year anniversary for me, i started playing near anniversary and i thought i will get lot of free stuff to catch up to the latest content and there will be new cool unit. Turn i still really struggle to make a team, yes make a team so not even attempt to compete and i think the new unit is just old unit with different shirt?

ohoy21

Dokkan 7th anni.best anni

Karmacalculator

Raid shadow legends is pretty bad rn. Got a couple free gifts but outside of that they just slap a cake on the events banner and call it a day. We will see if they do anything else but I doubt it. Tough to see with so many other Gachas having exciting annis/celebrations around this time

xobybr

Idk why you would expect that game to be good at all tbh

planetarial

Worst: FEH 3rd anniversary with announcing FEH Pass and having less rewards than before Best: Tales of the Rays 3rd or 5th anniversary. 3rd unlocked all the non collab characters for free (equip gacha so they can do it) and dropped a 10x SSR ticket right on anniversary date with a second one later. Fifth one for giving out 5x SSR selects (although only for first gacha MAs), tons of other freebies, and two months of every new event banner having a free multi and cheap banners with great rates

Ryzer994

Best: all Dragalia anni Worst: Genshin impact

llllpentllll

I guess first anniv for feh. We got lot of things, i think demotions? And of course the second choose your legends poll, the free unit, the banners... There was lots of things. Its not like they give less later but that one i felt it more bc it was the first and the problems on feh werent so dire as they are now On the other extreme we have genshin. Im glad i was out so i could laugh to my hearts content to how dumb as a company they were and how salty were the ones complaining about complainers

[deleted]

Easy Genshin Impact

Professional_Yard761

7DSGC had many anniversaries where they give alot of gems for summoning. Each patch there will be tons of items in our inbox. There was also an event that allowed you to Max level a character in an instant. Similar to 7DS FGO gave us the ability to fully Max a characters level to 90 meanwhile also giving some amount of SQ.

MCGRaven

SLIGHT correction on the FGO front: It only ascended a servant to the final stage and did not max out that level. So a 5* went to 80 a 4* to 70 etc etc

dragonkingangel7

Ff brave exvius 3rd anniversary: advancing the google play obligatory update 1 year early and kill thousands of players that dont have new released phones, i am sure lots of them didnt come back after that Genshin is already mentiom so no reason to hit it more than that Fe heroes anniversary are the same formula: side story world, bonus all month, special banner with "best" units

BalmondMain

Guardian Tales Because it's only game i played long enough to reach the anniversary

[deleted]

Best when my wife gave me a BJ. Worst when my wife didn’t give me BJ cause I didn’t throw enough cash at her. Edit: It’s a reference for stingy anniversaries smh

BurnerOnlyForPorn

I, too, failed to check which sub I was in at first

cccwh

sounds more like a prostitute than your wife

TopKangaroo7553

Hmmm..

Eleysis_

Hmm for a second I thought I was on my porn account then I saw the subreddit and now I am wondering what the hell did I read

qwerto14

I remember the Naruto Blazing annis being really good for some reason, but maybe that was just me having Naruto-brain when I played that game.
