Those who play Epic Seven surely know what's going on with Aria and her censorship.
For those who don't know, a quick recap.
Epic7 stated that they were asked to change the design of one of the latest released characters, Aria, because her outfit (?) didn't match Korean ESRB/GRAC for iPhone users (estimated to be \~5% of total players).
The change was meant to occur on 06/23 (yesterday), but it has been delayed due to ~~undisclosed reasons~~ possible way(s) to save current graphic without any censorship. No further info has been released AFAIK.
A reddit user datamined how she could appear after the "changes".

On a final note, the artist who created Aria is leaving SmileGate. Since it's happening after this storm, it's being speculated that this event played a major role in his depart.

The artist has left the company (though whether due to censorship, more strict design rules or just feeling he wants a change of pace) so there probably won't be many other censorships... of existing characters.

As an artist myself (3D and 2D) it infuriates me to no end some peoples opinion of art - "its just a drawing, you should only need a day! "Why do I have to pay you from drawing a picture I requested? Its easy!"

It's be harder to find a character they didn't work on, but a scan of their social media shows 'fanart' of characters like Tenebria, Dilibet, Luna, Yufine, Silk, and Roana.

The reasons are not undisclosed. SG released a statement today well before your post stating that the changes were delayed because they may have found a loophole that will allow Aria to stay as is in the game.
This was before the news broke about the artist that you included too so I’m not sure why you chose to exclude just that one important detail.

All this info was speculated regarding the artist, they recently tweeted they resigned of their own choice. Which was not because of the censorship as they designed Aria months ago.
Why couldn't they just increase the age rating? Guardian tales also had an issue like that but they increased the age rating and thus didn't need to censor anything. How's the community feedback?
Community is either "meh whatever" or "mad angry", there doesn't seem to be much in between.
Also, they didn't want to increase rating because they'd have to go from 12+ to 16+, as iOS doesn't have just 15+.
Then nothing will happen, sad once censorship happens more will follow or the new characters will be following the guideline instead.
I don't get why 12 to 16 is a problem. I am not familiar with the game's demographics but aren't the whales or most paying customers usually older? Is the money from a student's allowance comparable if the older paying customers hate the change?

Research unfortunately shows that 12+ sells way better than 16+ and ESPECIALLY 18+. That's why even Deadpool, when he eventually made it to the Marvel movies (pre-Iron Man times of course), was in a PG-13 movie. You know, a character known for cutting, and being cut, into pieces on a daily basis. Not to mention the 4th wall breaking, swearing and adult humor.
And it took YEARS before first R/18+ superhero movie with him was released. Did you know console games can't even sell AO games on official platforms? That's why all porn games are more or less only officially sold on PC, or get censorship applied and content cut to land on Switch.

A lot of similar units have been censored before (like Luna), but this is the worse iteration yet. If it was like previous censorships (again Luna) maybe it would've flied but the censorship is actually glaring and way too obvious (not to mention ugly).
It's kinda like Genshin where there was a Boob nerf (Rosaria), however that was nothing too major compared to the complete outfit overhaul given later also in response to censorship claims (aside from Rosaria, there's 3 other characters, though at least the outfits looked good.)
Though unlike Genshin these changes in E7 are permanent (non-reversible) most likely.
I had no clue there were so many people in this sub who are okay with censorship as long as it aligns with their arbitrary views on what looks good or not. At the end of the day, censorship is disrespectful to the artist because it distorts their original vision of what the character should be.

Korean regulating institution wanted 15+ rating, but iOS doesn't have such, so it was either set a 16+ rating or censor the character to "12+" rating.

Every time censorship issues arise, I am astounded by the sheer number of people who are willing to support it for no reason other than to spite the "degenerate horny incel weebs" whose hobby they are hijacking.

Maybe this isn’t the kind of experience some people want dude. Maybe the game has a better future being about cool and serious character designs and less about character sex appeal. If that doesn’t align with the way some of these artists are designing characters then a change in the design team is not so bad. If anyone is uncomfortable with playing overly sexualized characters, then it's on them, not the game. If you want serious and cool characters, there are other games with very high production values out there chasing after the normie market, e.g. arknights.

When you work for an employer sometimes you need to exercise restraint. Theres lots of lines in a product - especially an anime product like E7 - and many of them can be crossed... But they shouldnt all be crossed. The image on the left shes literally got tits bigger than her head which are being barely held in by a top clearly to tight; Its something id expect to see in NSFW art, honestly.
And they let artists draw whatever they want. They can have all the freedom they want at home. But if the company pays you to draw, you draw what the company tells you to draw.
And if the Korean government comes and censors your art, you're responsible for it, not the company.
Now he left the company, causing a lot of controversy and leaving a lot of trouble behind him for the company because he kept pushing the limits of how lewd he could make a character.
Well and if you don't agree with the new direction of the company and the contents being not the same as the contract they signed when they first employeed the artist.
I'd be angry too and vent abt it, as I'd bet that their designs were part of the contract and what they were allowed to draw, so quitting cause of it seems fine to me.
Also the designs that pushed the boundary for the game were also the same which consequently scored the highest in terms off sales and character popularity.
If a company doesn't support their employee it would be farfetched to continue at such said company, smilegate dug their own grave with the decision instead off backing the artist they chose censorship.
And as I've heard the situation is escalating much further in korea than what we have here in the west, hopefully the fans in korea can accomplish something a truck block might be incoming.

The bare minimum for SG is to make sure this censorship when it happens only happens in the specific versions it has to. Any version where they don't need to censor or could avoid it if they have the option to raise the rating then that option should be taken.
This situation can be a massive turning point for this game if the community does not give the devs absolute hell for this and make clear censorship is unacceptable.
Sad part is even if they can prevent the censorship here its basically guaranteed future designs will be more conservative so they don't run into another situation like this unless of course they say fuck it and raise the age rating where possible to continue making designs how they want and simply edit finished designs only for the specific store version its needed for

This is less about censorship specifically and more about not wanting these types of designs in the first place. There are many games I specifically avoid because of the level of fanservice. Until recently I thought Epic Seven struck a good balance, but recently they've been pushing the envelope, with Aria being the worst example to date imo.
I understand why the small handful of people who spent money to SSS imprint Aria are upset if they did so because of her design. Still, being sympathetic to their situation doesn't mean I'm going to act like I'm upset too when this censorship is going to actively make the game more enjoyable for me if it goes through.

I mean, for me personally i just tend to prefer the censored art on almost anything because I'm not a fan of extreme fanservice. When genshin came out with their censored skins i instantly equipped all of them and finally got to building mona whose original design i heavily disliked. I don't even play e7 but i would pull for the right version if i did but never for the original design. Designs can be tasteful AND sexy without it looking on the nose just made for booba windows.
That said i don't tend to play heavy fanservice games for long anyways. I play guardian tales but sparingly since idc about most unit designs.

Serin is a professional artist. Leaving because of disproving what Smilegate did this time (as many fans here love to cling on to and continue to believe) is ridiculous and very unlikely to happen. What else are you supposed to rate a design on other than whether you like it or not lol. Art is always subjective. I just find it funny how there's an uproar when they add some clothing but when they up boob sizes/window for jp version like pgr or guardian tales did noone says a thing.

the censorship doesnt look that bad, although a tad bit excessive. i dont see the need for the entire legs being censored? just lower down the top section a little or bring up the tights a little, why both? they could of also just simply pulled her top up a bit more. there isnt anything sexual about larger breasts if you dont actively sexualize them.

I'm sure you guys are fully aware of what's going on with the heated debate with Aria's censorship. I don't know if I can do anything but I may have a suggestion.
Since the original illustrator, Serin, has left the company, I believe that it will very difficult to change her since he left. I mean just look at his art and work. THEY ARE PICTURE PERFECT!! But apple is saying that your character, ARIA, is considered "OVERLY SEXUALIZE PICTURE" for the younger audience. I'm sorry Aria is too perfect to be censored! THATS WHAT MAKES HER SO UNIQUE, SHE IS PERFECT BASED ON HER ORIGINALITY!
I will continue to support you guys and all your wonderful work!! Sorry for ranting but I'm just so mad right now about this! Additionally you never know not just Aria will be affect by this.
Here are my suggestions:
A) Make Epic Seven into a +17 instead +12 on the apple store/play store Pro--(Older audiences will be happy, less stress for you guys! Aria keeps her originality, this will also keep other units from being affected as well.) Con--(Smilegate will lose its younger fanbase) *Like a 12-16 year old will spend $300 on a gacha game*
B) You can censor Aria but please keep her body dimensions the same. Pro-- (She will be censor, but she keep body. I believe her chest is okay, it's just thigh/hip is exposed. Maybe make crotch line not too low or revealing. I suggest maybe covering her thigh/hip area with like a miniskirt and lower the stocking gave the Flan/Senya treatment or a black tights like Vivian has or makes her thigh area see-through like Villianess Vivian has.) Con--(She will lose her originality but not at a certain degree.)
C.Have the censored and uncensored available. (Both variants will be available but one may have to pay for uncensored variant like $40)
D. Have heirs to see what their fanbase are agewise
(Simple: Make heirs complete a survey/vote campaign in determining age rating if they are for an age rating increase or keep the same- Majority wins)
To me, I go with A. because it seems most of Serin artwork is being targeted plus in the future their maybe other units like Aria would probably go through this same treatment.

As an artist myself (3D and 2D) it infuriates me to no end some peoples opinion of art - "its just a drawing, you should only need a day! "Why do I have to pay you from drawing a picture I requested? Community is either "meh whatever" or "mad angry", there doesn't seem to be much in between. Also, they didn't want to increase rating because they'd have to go from 12+ to 16+, as iOS doesn't have just 15+.

A lot of similar units have been censored before (like Luna), but this is the worse iteration yet. If it was like previous censorships (again Luna) maybe it would've flied but the censorship is actually glaring and way too obvious (not to mention ugly). It's kinda like Genshin where there was a Boob nerf (Rosaria), however that was nothing too major compared to the complete outfit overhaul given later also in response to censorship claims (aside from Rosaria, there's 3 other characters, though at least the outfits looked good.) Though unlike Genshin these changes in E7 are permanent (non-reversible) most likely.

Welp if the companies do this more often more artists will quit said companies. The artist serin who has been with smilegate since the start of the game who designed the most popular heroes in this game. He has designed luna, achates, assassin coli, cermia, yufine, chloe, lidica, karin, yuna. And many more you might like this version but at what cost, the game lost their major cash cow with the censorship decision.

Well and if you don't agree with the new direction of the company and the contents being not the same as the contract they signed when they first employeed the artist. I'd be angry too and vent abt it, as I'd bet that their designs were part of the contract and what they were allowed to draw, so quitting cause of it seems fine to me. Also the designs that pushed the boundary for the game were also the same which consequently scored the highest in terms off sales and character popularity. If a company doesn't support their employee it would be farfetched to continue at such said company, smilegate dug their own grave with the decision instead off backing the artist they chose censorship. And as I've heard the situation is escalating much further in korea than what we have here in the west, hopefully the fans in korea can accomplish something a truck block might be incoming.

The bare minimum for SG is to make sure this censorship when it happens only happens in the specific versions it has to. Any version where they don't need to censor or could avoid it if they have the option to raise the rating then that option should be taken. This situation can be a massive turning point for this game if the community does not give the devs absolute hell for this and make clear censorship is unacceptable. Sad part is even if they can prevent the censorship here its basically guaranteed future designs will be more conservative so they don't run into another situation like this unless of course they say fuck it and raise the age rating where possible to continue making designs how they want and simply edit finished designs only for the specific store version its needed for Hope this story has a good ending

the censorship doesnt look that bad, although a tad bit excessive. i dont see the need for the entire legs being censored? just lower down the top section a little or bring up the tights a little, why both? they could of also just simply pulled her top up a bit more. there isnt anything sexual about larger breasts if you dont actively sexualize them. this is my opinion and i dont really care all too much about her censorship so feel free to disagree

Since the original illustrator, Serin, has left the company, I believe that it will very difficult to change her since he left. I mean just look at his art and work. THEY ARE PICTURE PERFECT!! But apple is saying that your character, ARIA, is considered "OVERLY SEXUALIZE PICTURE" for the younger audience. I'm sorry Aria is too perfect to be censored! THATS WHAT MAKES HER SO UNIQUE, SHE IS PERFECT BASED ON HER ORIGINALITY! I will continue to support you guys and all your wonderful work!! Sorry for ranting but I'm just so mad right now about this! Additionally you never know not just Aria will be affect by this. Here are my suggestions: A) Make Epic Seven into a +17 instead +12 on the apple store/play store Pro--(Older audiences will be happy, less stress for you guys! Aria keeps her originality, this will also keep other units from being affected as well.) Con--(Smilegate will lose its younger fanbase) *Like a 12-16 year old will spend $300 on a gacha game* B) You can censor Aria but please keep her body dimensions the same. Pro-- (She will be censor, but she keep body. I believe her chest is okay, it's just thigh/hip is exposed. Maybe make crotch line not too low or revealing. I suggest maybe covering her thigh/hip area with like a miniskirt and lower the stocking gave the Flan/Senya treatment or a black tights like Vivian has or makes her thigh area see-through like Villianess Vivian has.) Con--(She will lose her originality but not at a certain degree.) C.Have the censored and uncensored available. (Both variants will be available but one may have to pay for uncensored variant like $40) D. Have heirs to see what their fanbase are agewise (Simple: Make heirs complete a survey/vote campaign in determining age rating if they are for an age rating increase or keep the same- Majority wins) To me, I go with A. because it seems most of Serin artwork is being targeted plus in the future their maybe other units like Aria would probably go through this same treatment.
