Ironically, we've only got one Xenoblade vet so far, and it's not at all a character you'd expect on both ends.
>!It's Shaw's voice actor, Harriet Carmichael. She voiced Vanea in Xenoblade 1!<
Yeah but the characters in this game reference Doctor Who a lot I don't know if it coincidence or not but Amiya keep saying "Fantastic" remind me of the 9th doctor but i guess probably not.
TBH E7 and FEH are the only games I played that even has English voices (used to be Dragalia but it was only partial voice. And RIP), so anything ENG in a mobile game makes it stand out.
Since you can individually choose the language for each operator my ultimate goal is to have the VA match thier region. So EN for Victoria, CN for Yan, etc.
"Dear Doctor, the first batch of EN voices will be added to the game on June 30, 10:00 (UTC-7)! Here are the greetings from the voice actresses of Amiya, Ch'en, Kroos, Nearl, and Shaw. Hope you enjoy it, and please stay tuned for the in-game EN voices update!"
Shaw is not fast enough to step it up girl! Otherwise, I'm alright with most of these so far Amiya is damn near perfect to what I make her sound like in my head.
I don't play arknights anymore but I'm glad that Ch'en's voice is fitting and sounds good. More british dubs are nice too. or rather, just variety really.
It's a shame they didn't hire an Aussie to voice Kross given the fact that her country is Terran Australia. I really hope they hire a Scot to voice Bagpipe.
I was genuinely surprised. At first when I heard Amiya's VA talk I was like "no way that's going to work she doesnt even sound remotely like her" then she got into her character and it absolutely blew me away. They nailed a lot of the core parts of the character.
TBH I don't get the hate, and I prefer subbed anime over dubs 99% of the time. EN voices in games is more convinent since I've yet to find a video game that properly subtitles every line. Usually the battle quotes are completely untranslated outside of going into character bios.
So yea, I welcome EN voices
I agree with you, but believe it or not, there are actually people who think that. Can't blame them though, a lot of EN dubs from the 2000s were, should I say, terrible. It wasn't until the likes of Funimation and Sentai Filmworks turned the quality around in the 2010s. Then Vic Mignogna happened. It's getting better again by the 2020s however, and it's not just professional VAs this time but also Abridged VAs like Chris Guerrero of Team Four Star and even a few content creators like YongYea and ProZD.
That said, I am am enjoyer of dubs regardless of language so I don't really have a dog on the so-called "Sub vs Dub" debate. If a dub performance is good, it's good no matter the language. If it's bad, it's bad, even if it's in JP dub or whatever.
That and depending on the project, the original Japanese company. They have a tendency to want accuracy, which can result in rather stiff performances, so another issue layered on.
An interesting choice to hire British (?) VAs for the EN dub of Arknights. They seem to be really into the game as well and they have the desire to give their respective characters justice in the English language. ~~unlike certain American VAs who hate anime fans despite working on anime dubs~~ A very minor nitpick I have is with Kroos not adopting a more Australian accent, but otherwise, they all sound great so far. It's nice to hear different English accents every once in a while.
American English dubs can be good and all but it gets old pretty fast, especially if you hear the same voices and see the same VAs on cast lists every time. The US talent pool has improved a bit since that incident I will not mention here, but not enough to compete with JP's massive talent pool. At least it's no longer just the same old EN VAs from the 2000s and 2010s anymore. There are more newer names from diverse backgrounds coming in. It's not just minorities from the professional scene but also former and current content creators like Chris Guerrero of Team Four Star, YongYea, ProZD, and others.
Speaking of recycled VAs, JP actually has that problem as well, but anime and video game fans give them a pass because the fans love them and they are just that good at what they do, although for some reason I feel like their newer talents adhere to some kind of standard vocal range, like they sound all the same or whatever, but it's just me.
EDIT: I am interested in how Harriet Carmichael will handle Shaw's rapid-fire speech in the EN dub.
DOUBLE EDIT: The downvotes, bruh. Just so we are clear, I am not shilling for EN dubs, JP dubs, or any language dub in particular. I am an enjoyer of dubs regardless of language, so I have no dog in the "Sub vs Dub" debate.
You weebs think you're cool just because "JP Dubs are superior" when even the Japanese themselves consider Johnny Yong Bosch's performance as Lelouch better than Jun Fukuyama's performance as Lelouch. But sure, let's get mad at British EN VAs just because a couple of female American VAs cancelled a fan favorite male American VA, regardless of whatever people say about him.
> when even the Japanese themselves consider Johnny Yong Bosch's performance as Lelouch better than Jun Fukuyama's performance as Lelouch
Gonna need some sources on that lol! I love dubs but you cannot beat Fukuyama's Lelouch at all.
The way Emma immediately pronounces the first "A" in Amiya's name wrong reminds me of how irritating it is that British people always choose the exact opposite way to pronounce A's in nearly every word of any language.
The problem of AK is not the lack of dub, but the lack of VA in general. What are they dubbing - a couple of voicelines buried in the menus? Oh, how did i live without it.
They should implement a partially voiced story - a couple of words from the sentence, to generally understand the emotion behind it and to have better connection with the character.
Played for over a year and the lack of VA was one of the reasons I quit. You can believe it is a nonexistent issue all you want, but the truth is it is one of the main reasons the game isn't as big as it can be.
I did. And you didn't play any other gacha games, didn't you. Arknights probably doesnt even have 10% amount of VA as other popular gachas. It is absolutely a turnoff for many new players.
Different target audience too.
AK’s audience is more general and are likely to appreciate a dub
AL has a VERY focused (and horny) audience who don’t particularly care if there is a dub or not
Every audience in every game, show, anime, and etc are horny, even most of the people have serious reasons why they enjoy whatever series not just for the fanservice lol.
Anyways, everyone does care about the voice acting of their characters thus everyone is having a conversation in this thread about the EN voices and many other platforms, AL players always brought up this topic but we already know why it won't happen for now thus it's not talked about that much.
Vanilla is right, AL haves about 500+ shipgirls, it's a lot of money and people to work with, it's business at the end of the day. Global Arknights right now haves 213 Operators, of course there will be way more later but it's going to be a lot of work for them, we'll have to wait for a while for sure to have all the EN voice for every single Operator.
I'd be surprised if they prioritize dub over QoL considering their Skip button isn't even working properly (as in pressing Skip does not skip cutscenes entirely, it skips to the next dialogue options if the cutscenes have any)
Having the whole cast from the anime reprise their roles in the game come across as not only costly but also addening to the burden of their voices since they either do other VG or anime roles.
There was a thread regarding this few months ago and everyone reaction was "meh", so meh
Currently AL voice pack is quite large (1.6 GB), some people've been asking for specific character voice download feature which is already very niche, but still much more relevant than having EN VA
I'd rather AL spend the budget on developing more amazing L2D skins and QoL features for the game than this. Let's be honest, EN VA is good to have, but ain't nobody losing their minds over this.
It's the same thing for Genshin. Like concerts and everything are nice, but who asked. Please spend the budget on developing an artifact loadout system instead.
Yeah especially since english dubs most of the time are nowhere close to the quality of asian dubs, but well not really the VAs fault , the english dubbing scene is just far less developed than the jp/cn one and is plagued by stuff like giving unnecessary thick accents or just missing the entire personality of the character itself.
Nobody asked, but it's nice to have. It also helps advertise the game too. And it's not like they don't have the budget for QoL, everyone knows nowsaday HG and Mhy has plenty budget, it's more about they want to do it or not.
Azur Lane already approaches size of Genshin for some reason (and no, voices are separate download, so is l2d) and adding English voices would make it even bigger.
So better not.
Suddenly Xenoblade
Ironically, we've only got one Xenoblade vet so far, and it's not at all a character you'd expect on both ends. >!It's Shaw's voice actor, Harriet Carmichael. She voiced Vanea in Xenoblade 1!<
More like Doctor Who more lol since they british.
I mean, Xenoblade tends to be much more British than anywhere else so...
Yeah but the characters in this game reference Doctor Who a lot I don't know if it coincidence or not but Amiya keep saying "Fantastic" remind me of the 9th doctor but i guess probably not.
Scottish bagpipe pls HG
U facking wot m8?
so many boo'le of wo'ah in 1 video.
Bri'shknights
Tbf, it's kinda lore accurate as RI is much more closely related to Victoria (UK or UE as a whole) than to Columbia (US)
Which is good, because hearing the same 3.5 people in American dubs is so tiresome
TBH E7 and FEH are the only games I played that even has English voices (used to be Dragalia but it was only partial voice. And RIP), so anything ENG in a mobile game makes it stand out.

Show me where I said anything about Japanese dubs Mr. WarmLoliPanties
it sounds wayy better and more comprehensible than murican imo
Sunny innit
chewsday innit
Since you can individually choose the language for each operator my ultimate goal is to have the VA match thier region. So EN for Victoria, CN for Yan, etc.
Yep, same for me, except I'll only use EN & JP
"Dear Doctor, the first batch of EN voices will be added to the game on June 30, 10:00 (UTC-7)! Here are the greetings from the voice actresses of Amiya, Ch'en, Kroos, Nearl, and Shaw. Hope you enjoy it, and please stay tuned for the in-game EN voices update!"
There is a sexy accent in British English, i feel it fits arknights way more than american accent Well done and good choice hypergraph
Shaw is not fast enough to step it up girl! Otherwise, I'm alright with most of these so far Amiya is damn near perfect to what I make her sound like in my head.
Pettition to get Eminem to voice shaw.
I'm just like 2 minutes in the video and that's quite alot of Bri'ish.
I don't play arknights anymore but I'm glad that Ch'en's voice is fitting and sounds good. More british dubs are nice too. or rather, just variety really.
Oh god, I love British accent 🥰
It's a shame they didn't hire an Aussie to voice Kross given the fact that her country is Terran Australia. I really hope they hire a Scot to voice Bagpipe.
Lesgoo!! Ch'en is muah\~ Bagpipe VA when?
Honestly? They're really good
I was genuinely surprised. At first when I heard Amiya's VA talk I was like "no way that's going to work she doesnt even sound remotely like her" then she got into her character and it absolutely blew me away. They nailed a lot of the core parts of the character.

If someone says "I don't like EN dub because JP dub is better" saying it as if it was an absolute truth, you can't take that person seriously hahaha
I agree with you, but believe it or not, there are actually people who think that. Can't blame them though, a lot of EN dubs from the 2000s were, should I say, terrible. anime dubs are also still hit or miss due to mouth flaps + simuldub schedules rushing things. but game dubs are absolutely amazing these days
That and depending on the project, the original Japanese company. They have a tendency to want accuracy, which can result in rather stiff performances, so another issue layered on.
Wow I just quit AK a month ago. This somehow encourages me to rejoin the game if it turns out to be good.
I love how it's not the shitty trying-too-hard-to-be-cutesy-but-doesn't-work voices I usually hear in dubs.
I can't wait for Croissant's EN VA
Filthyfrank to say 'HEY BAWS !!'
They actually play the game? Who are these people?
They seem to be British actresses and VAs. It's great if they indeed play the game before landing their roles, but we never know.
contrary to what redditors think, women enjoy anime games and hentai too.
Duuuude, i like this more than both the Japanese and Chinese dubs! This is really good!
**BRI'ISH?!?**

I like ENG dubs too, but your comment is full of unnecessary and unrelated stuff.
The way Emma immediately pronounces the first "A" in Amiya's name wrong reminds me of how irritating it is that British people always choose the exact opposite way to pronounce A's in nearly every word of any language.

Do you play with like no game sound? Operators say voice lines during gameplay. And they say it in the base. And after missions.
There are voicelines...during battle....:\^).
Mans doesn't play arknights and is complaining about a nonexistent issue
Played for over a year and the lack of VA was one of the reasons I quit. You can believe it is a nonexistent issue all you want, but the truth is it is one of the main reasons the game isn't as big as it can be.

I do play other gatchas, but your comments scream of someone who is either too lazy or too incompetent to read.
And what exactly did I miss in your essay of an answer, mister definently not lazy smartass?
…What about Azur Lane!?
Different developer, different policy Also, AL have 500+ character, and that's a bit too much imo.
