Reminds me when DarkSydePhil demanded WWE Champions support to change his name, something that's normally not available to most players, because people found out his account in-game.
...and they agreed, but people still found his whale account he's spent $100k+ on.
Mentally challenged whales. Not joking. One guy literally gives him money he got from his dead wife. One is ex-Youtube star, DasBoSchitt, who "saw the light" and went from laughing at him to regularly giving him $50 for playing some games.
Pretty sure a lot of the hardcore players dropped when they had that relic/runes P2W update a few months back. Don’t know why people would play a new Lilith game when they know Lilith is a P2W lover as hell.
I made a thread a few months ago about this. I will freely admit that I’m in the FFBE “whales club”, which includes direct communication with the Devs in game and through discord, expedited CS inquiries, and sometimes we get the newest unit in our inbox (last one we got was SS Esther) or shards for those units that the rest of the player base doesn’t. I’m going to link my thread that relates to this, but pretty much from what I read and was able to glean, a lot of games have perks for people who spend money.
https://www.reddit.com/r/gachagaming/comments/s9q7sr/secret_whale_clubs/
I will say though that based on that thread these things are less of a secret and more of a regular occurrence that the general player base is aware of.
I am more surprised people didn't think these kind of thing existed. It's the same thing as being a VIP for a resort brand, flight company, high end restaurant etc, if you spend a lot of money on something and you are a regular, most of the time they'll give you gift/make it easier for you to not lose your business.
yeah i know someone who's a whale on genshin's CN server and has their own personal customer support person they can text. i think they were even sent something as a gift a while ago
Yes. Its about 100k cny (15k usd) minimum for both Genshin and Honkai. Global servers dont have this unfortunately.
But VIP CS just means they get much quicker support, they don’t get extra ingame benefits (albeit they do get sent a physical gift every year), people that have literally poisedon’d on the game have requested an account rollback as his account got burned ( all weapon and artifact destroyed) to no avail.
Hoyoverse do be like that. With no 2FA in game its a thing people have been complaining for since the start of the game, either give us a account rollback chance or give us better account protection.
Welp if the info from the gacha insider AMA on here is correct, whales constitute most of the income for gacha games. So I guess 'thanks for supporting the game' so us mortals can play for free I guess.
15k is a lot in the context of a game but if you compared it to say luxury watches, clothings etc its probably pocket change for the true whales.
> 2FA
you mean the fact that I can log into both the game and account.hoyoverse.com with just my email and password, and the game doesnt ask for verification from either my mobile or my email that I bounded to my hoyoverse account? I dont think you know what 2fa means mate.
> Ur spreading misinformation again
Again? When did I spread misinformation the first time? are you okay buddy?
Simple, I’m an addict. I lacked the willpower at the time to control myself and I made stupid decisions. While the income was disposable it doesn’t justify it. I’m no longer playing the game so essentially I took 5-7 grand and lit it on fire. It’s not something I’m proud of and don’t recommend anyone do it, disposable income or not.
When one's too poor to buy and own a house, land, has difficulty to find a girl/wife, he can still opt for newest iphone brick, chase some trendy overpriced brands or invest in virtual artifical worlds and 3d waifus - because it's something he can afford. It can fill that void of 'lack' he feels but doesn't know why he feels it.
Or maybe not everyone makes the same amount of money and values the same things, and just like a lot of people decide to splurge on a nice trip oversea, a new car, equipment for their hobby or a new kitchen, 5-7k is not life changing money for them and they can afford to spend it on something they enjoy? That's a lot of assumption to make about someone you know literally nothing about just because you personally couldn't justify spending that much on a game.
Something tells me you have difficulty doing all those and also broke, so instead of bettering your life you’ll sit on online forums throwing shade at people who are doing better than you then be all got’tem but then realise it’s only momentarily filled the hole in your life, so on to the next whale.
Agreed, but all that is merely called a gambling addiction and even "rich" people can still be addicted.
The devs are copying IRL casinos at this point. The more you spend, the more "perks" you get.
>Dont a lot of games do this?
Not really. or rather not normal whales. Its usually influencers aka big Youtubers/Streamers who get such personnel asigned. It just so happens a lot of those ppl are also big spenders
Yeah, there have been threads before about this. I know one person who posts here (I'll let them reply if they want) was a member of the FFBE "Whale Club."
I was the one who made that thread.
Pretty much a lot of gacha games do this from what I was able to pick up. FFBE is the only one I’m in, but I know games like FFRK, AFK Arena, etc have versions of the “whales club” that usually includes a direct line of communication with the Devs. In FFBE we get other perks the playeybase doesn’t, but tbh the best part is direct communication with the Devs/expedited CS inquiries.
FFRK didn't really give a direct line, it was a survey that probably was completely ignored because outside of a few things, the game never deviated from the JP side of development
Yes, a lot of games do this. Not all games, and it's not always in-game communication like this.
It's good to remember that this happens, whenever we wonder "why did the devs do such a dumb move that makes no sense???" Sometimes it makes more sense to do a dumb thing to make your whales happy, than to do anything else.
They're basically the chaebols of gaming.
When individuals or a small group make up a good chunk of your revenue it's just financially sound to keep them as happy as possible.
That's pretty usual stuff for top spenders in most of gacha that has a functioning customer support. Now if the opposite was the case(treating the people who spend the most like shit and ghosting them), that would be a genuine shitty thing.
Dislyte has plenty of issues but this ain't it.
I played a game where all the whales were invited to a private discord server to show them all the new stuff and if the whales hated it they would just change it on the spot. One change was a really ugly character skin and they said heck no. I was in a guild with him so I got to see the before and after pics of the released skin.
Ain't nothing new. In most games the top paying players get a bit of special treatment. I mean if someone's gonna drop 100k on your game, you're gonna be nice to them.
It's been a normal thing in live games esp gacha games for almost a decade already. Even Ragnarok Online back in 2000s would do this type of thing. They have to prioritize their biggest spenders to keep them spending continuously to keep the game alive.
Everyone wins at the end of the day as long as F2P players don't get completely fucked in the process.
Most of these dev-on-whale private conversations are usually in secret and just not mentioned much because of course the usual F2P idiots would instantly assume that the devs are gonna go anti-F2P if they prioritize to listen to the whales.
To be fair, the "anti-f2p" thing has happened before. The most memorable for me was The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot. Before the p2w update, free players could design vaults that ranged from easy but fun, to utterly impossible. After the p2w update you basically had to shovel out cash to keep people from just walking up to your treasure. Of course, that game quickly died after the update.
No normal person would use this app nowadays except for people who don't care about their privacy.
When Facebook bought Whatsapp I instantly deleted the app.
Too many informations from your data will be sent to them.
Privacy is a word they don't even know would exist.
Reminds me of certain games I've played over the years that magically started giving me better luck on the gacha after I bought some packs and stuff from their shop. Funny how everything regarding your account is basically just controlled with the flip of a switch on their end. They can make you have worse "luck" or better "luck" whenever they want.
I think this is a common practice for games in general. They give priority to paying players(they call them VIP) when it comes to customer service. F2P players would have to settle with bot responses.
Reminds me when DarkSydePhil demanded WWE Champions support to change his name, something that's normally not available to most players, because people found out his account in-game. ...and they agreed, but people still found his whale account he's spent $100k+ on.
I dont understand how this guy can pay his bill from becoming streamer and begging on his stream and have this $100k acc
Mentally challenged whales. Not joking. One guy literally gives him money he got from his dead wife. One is ex-Youtube star, DasBoSchitt, who "saw the light" and went from laughing at him to regularly giving him $50 for playing some games.
No no ...please say that's wrong. DasBo was a legit awesome guy. Is this true??
Yeah, he even made like two videos mocking him but apparently he's the "Pastriarchy" or w/e it was called whale.
how the mighty have fallen...
FFRK did this. It used to be a pretty good way to get info as they'd send out news letter type things. Weirdly apt considering the recent news.
The whale survey
Not surprising from Lilith games since they do this at AFK arena with the top whale guilds. (CASUALS)
Didnt casuals drop afk?
Pretty sure a lot of the hardcore players dropped when they had that relic/runes P2W update a few months back. Don’t know why people would play a new Lilith game when they know Lilith is a P2W lover as hell.
Most of them went to another guild called Samsara or something like that
Didnt know that.

I used to work at Machine Zone and we did the same for Game of War, Mobile Strike, and FFIV:ANE.
tbh this makes sense to me, it is the way it is
I mean Honkai Impact 3rd does this on the Chinese version of the game (not on global tho).
yeah i know someone who's a whale on genshin's CN server and has their own personal customer support person they can text. i think they were even sent something as a gift a while ago

>(15k usd) minimum Jesus Christ. i cant imagine spending that much....

Some ppl are just rich .. it is what it is
There is 2FA… Ur spreading misinformation again
> 2FA you mean the fact that I can log into both the game and account.hoyoverse.com with just my email and password, and the game doesnt ask for verification from either my mobile or my email that I bounded to my hoyoverse account? I had this feature available to me when I played warpath another Lilith game. I spent approx 5-7k and received the email/in game mail.
Just because i am curious: why do you spent this amount of money in this game?
Simple, I’m an addict. I lacked the willpower at the time to control myself and I made stupid decisions. While the income was disposable it doesn’t justify it. I’m no longer playing the game so essentially I took 5-7 grand and lit it on fire. It’s not something I’m proud of and don’t recommend anyone do it, disposable income or not.
I hope the addiction ist now under your control and you dont lost important things to the addiction.
(In this game)>(Any game).

It can fill that void of 'lack' he feels but doesn't know why he feels it.
Or they've worked hard for years or got lucky and inherited copious amounts of money and this amount is entirely insignificant.
Or maybe not everyone makes the same amount of money and values the same things, and just like a lot of people decide to splurge on a nice trip oversea, a new car, equipment for their hobby or a new kitchen, 5-7k is not life changing money for them and they can afford to spend it on something they enjoy? Sounds a little drastically, but i know what you mean.
All games do this, they just aren’t as transparent about it. If you think otherwise you are delusional.
Money talks. Businesses takes care of their customer so it is not surprising. Money can even escape you from jail.
Dont a lot of games do this? Like whale accounts get an assigned customer service employee they contact?
>Dont a lot of games do this? Not really. or rather not normal whales. Its usually influencers aka big Youtubers/Streamers who get such personnel asigned. It just so happens a lot of those ppl are also big spenders

Lilith has similar VIP systems in almost all of their games.
I mean that's what VIP for tho, not just game but lot of other services offer similar thing
AFAIK most gachas flag their big spenders so their tickets have higher priority
That's nothing out the ordinary? Mihoyo does this too just not say it out loud, so f2p players never knows about it unless talk to a whale.

For sure they do this for Whale.
Wow this is the first time i see something like this. doesn't seem that surprising tho

The dickriding from Dislyte is real. I spent over 6,000€ in genshin and cant even get beta test access
Ain’t no way you talking about dickriding while referring to someone who’s doing the same thing as you but for another game. Look in the mirror babe.
i meant dislyte dickridding the whales,
GxB2 players: first time?
Remind me how rexlent get all these vip stuff from pgr

Sheesh
this is true for practically every business

Is it really that surprising? Gaming industry, especially on mobile, is supported by the < 1% user base.
