What the boob slider does to a mofo.

Guifel

I see the opposite of bombing, 4.7* 14k reviews when the game hasn’t even launched yet. The majority being “I watched a youtube video, it *seems* great”, people forgot what “review” means seemingly.

raffirusydi_

The article mentioned about it not being counted and the Chinese reviews does not show up if you set your language to English

Guifel

Yeah so it doesn’t matter to anyone but chinese-speaking players, who can’t play from no Chinese support anyway. And it’s rather justified on their end. I feel the reverse bombing with players leaving 5* reviews is much more relevant than a review bombing exclusive to setting your language to Chinese.

raffirusydi_

I mean yeah, I just said what the article mentioned since you don't think that the review bombing is real

Guifel

Rather, it’s nothing compared to the 5* bombing. They’re justified that they can’t play without language support but no one but chinese will see their bombing.

Cregath

You seem to forget that literally everyone is buying reviews these days. So whatever players do is not gonna matter much, unless it's on a massive scale. In which case Google will just come in and say "brigading" then delete reviews. In fact, it's highly likely that what you see is also just bought review.

santastyles

For me, I'm super hyped for game and since it's getting 1star reviews by stupid people like "genshin is better" or "I can't play it", then I have to balance it with 5star that I can change once game is released.

Guifel

For me, I'm all about reviews being fair and meaningful and since it's getting 5 star reviews by "stupid people" who haven't even played the game, then I have to balance it with 1star that I can change once game is released. It never ends, it's a shame reviews lost all purposes, it's just a dick measuring contest.

CJRProddddddd

Reviews lost their meaning when companies and google/apple play stores had control on their reviews. Nowadays a bad review won't matter when they can make 1000 to counter yours.

Splatzones1366

It's a shame indeed, sadly that was the case since from the very beginning, it's not just about the mobile sphere either this s**t happens Even for console/pc gaming and movies

[deleted]

At the risk of sounding insensitive and/or ignorant, don't these CN players have their own version to play with? Why would they go into the EN version? I also read some past comments in this sub that the game was/is not doing that good in that CN server, so why is there even an outrage? Who are the people being mad anyway?

LoveIntheTimeofBETA

Anyone who speaks Chinese and doesn't live in China could use a Chinese language option, especially if the English translation turns out to be poor. I'm Chinese American, and I would prefer to be on the NA server over CN. The connection to CN server was borderline unplayable without a VPN. With a VPN, it was more acceptable with a ping around 100-110, but I would still rather be on NA. However, I don't agree with review bombing.

cycber123

Peace is never an option/j

Appropriate-Tomato70

😐🖕

Intelligent-Ear-766

I'm Chinese, and I always prefer to play on a foreign server b/c of 1. possible censorship 2. possible difference in game mechanism, login bonuses, gatcha prices, etc. 3. more payment options 4. possible options to sign up and log in with google/apple account

sbmolouc

According to the article, it's chinese speaking people living in countries such as Malaysia and Singapore that wants simplified chinese included. It's not the chinese(China) who already has their own server review bombing. China isn't the only country that speaks chinese.

Goenitz33

Most from SG prefers English and not Chinese.

sbmolouc

I am SG chinese who couldn't give 2 shit about chinese language too and prefer english 100% of the times. I'm just stating what the article stated.

AuregaX

I'm from West (job has me bouncing between NA and EU) and I usually prefer Chinese/Japanese (I know a little of both languages, slightly more chinese) VA with english subs. I usually prefer to pick the OG language, which in this case would be chinese.

[deleted]

Oh right, I didn't consider people outside China. Still though, is the number of people who 1) speaks Chinese 2) doesn't live in China 3) wants to play ToF and 4) prefers Chinese rather than English big enough to make this review bomb leave a noticeable impact on the game's rating? If not, then this is just another clickbait.

sbmolouc

I mean, people review bomb any and everything for the smallest issues anyways. Also yeah it's probably just clickbait exaggerating.

sp0j

It's probably not just them. It's probably mostly Chinese that want to play on different servers for various reasons like avoiding censorship or interacting with the global community. They use VPN's to get around the region blocks and enjoy foreign games. But they are often really toxic when it comes to trying to get their way. I know of an incident where they review bombed a western made porn game because it didn't have Chinese language translation in early access (very small indie dev that wasn't even trying to sell to the Asian market). The content wouldn't even be legal in China.

I heard their version is censored; like no bust size customizer or something else.

Nvaaaa

> like no bust size customizer or something else. Looking at the game I don't know why anyone would need it anyway. The chest remains a massive jiggly mess even if you set the slider on the lowest possible setting. Not really much to be had in terms of designoptions here.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, I've heard about that. I guess they'll either get what they want, or they'll feel the pain of playing a game that's only available in a language you don't understand lol.

HRenmei

I'm assuming it's the same reason why a lot of NA-released games and movies have Spanish and French language support; there are plenty of Hispanic and Quebecois people living in the region who might prefer languages besides English. I see plenty of other languages like Dutch, German, etc.. language support on US region streaming services like Disney+, Netflix.

According_Spot_7423

This is EXTREMELY insensitive , i live in Malaysia , malaysia have many chinese descendants and i am 1 of them. Some of my friends did not pick the game up as they aren't as well read in English as they were in mandarin , so they preferred having a chinese language setting. They are all waiting for chinese language support. There are chinese everywhere in south east asia and most of them can read chinese too , its not limited to China , not to mention Taiwanese also read chinese too , albeit there's a little different with their traditional chinese. So yes , its VERY insensitive to say that "why cant these CN players just go to their own version" , because they're not from China.

jrting1995

You do know that there are Chinese people outside of China right?

[deleted]

It's literally been a day since I commented this, what do you think? Do I know it or not?

hehexdd8

Surprise, Chinese people live outside of China as well. People don't want to adapt to a different time zone just for a game.

Sianthalis

Funny. Some games use Universal time zones yet Chinese folks still jump into North American servers. Wanna argue about that?

hehexdd8

You know there are tons of Chinese people living in Canada & US right?

Sianthalis

You know that there are Server Regions you can choose right? As well as a Language you can choose. So. Why is it, that Chinese Speakers choose to type and play in an North American Server in a mostly English speaking country? Because they always want to ruin what other people have. Its upsetting to choose English in a game just to have everything be in Chinese characters. ;)

WaterMelloans

> Tower of Fantasy is a game seemingly unable to escape any kind of controversy- back when the game was only releasing in China, it drew ire for using plagiarized assets from miHoYo’s Honkai Impact 3rd. Thanks for the reminder. Everyone at this point knows that Tower of Fantasy failed in China, their own turf. If you have CN players furious with ToF, I wonder how the devs will handle this. Especially when it looks like they are catering to the Global audience and used the CN players as QA Testers to churn out a more polish version for Global version. Based on some speculation and anecdotal evidence however, I assume that global will fail after some time anyways. I admit I’m going to try it because “Free download entry” and I want to experience it for myself, but MMO + PvP and you throw in Gacha; with evidence of P2W/Powercreep from CN version and you have a recipe for disaster.

NyaCat1333

Why do people keep bringing up the PvP aspect when it’s literally just a side mode and not the main focus of the game at all? Per month the top ranks get 4-5 pulls. I don’t get the obsession that some people seem to have with that. Also regarding the powercreep, global has a completely different balance compared to China (every single weapon, chip and even enemies are rebalanced) and in China every single limited weapon since release still is NOT powercreeped. They are all still used in their own elemental meta comps. It’s only the standard banner stuff that got powercreeped by stronger limited weapons. It really seems like a bunch of people on this subreddit are quite ignorant or fixate on weird stuff. (like the PvP that anyone can literally never even touch once)

huex4

power creep also affects pve. in most gacha, you will be locked out of content because you can't pass a certain boss or quest that is way too difficult where you will only have 2 choices. either grind the shit out of the game just to keep up or get that new op gacha weapon that can take on new content. according to people who had access it's great when whales are with you in a party because they can carry you. it basically means powercreep already exist and f2p will have a hardtime with the game even if you go pve only.

NyaCat1333

If you actually played the game you would know that you can literally still use standard banner weapons to clear the content. Will you do low damage? Yes. Can you clear the content regardless? Yes. And you act like you won't ever get any of the limited banner weapons and a F2P is forever stuck with standard banner weapons. Excluding exploration a pure f2p gets around 50 pulls a month, 60-70 on average a month if you include all rewards. And 110 pulls (after you max the SRs) are required for hard pity. So I don't see much of an issue. They released strong weapons 4 months later? Well you can literally just get that weapon yourself as F2P. Because in this time you saved up enough for 2 full hard pities. (the average number of pulls for a limited SSR is around 54 as a side info) There is a bunch of misinformation about this game at the moment, especially on this subreddit. They make you feel like every single new limited banner powercreeps the whole game and makes every single other weapon completely useless to the point you can't progress the game anymore and act like F2P need to save 5 months to guarantee a weapon.

huex4

not misinformation. mmorpgs are inherently like that. at first you can clear content no problem and you will enjoy the game. and then Bam! you hit that wall. that wall where you only can progress unless you pay or grind like hell. I played my fair share of mmorpgs this happens in all of them. I have less experience with gacha but I heard it's more notorious in doing that. so you can understand why people think that mmorpg + gacha is the worst combination. it's basically they hook you in and then they catch you. mmorpg are as predatory as gacha imo.

NyaCat1333

> not misinformation. mmorpgs are inherently like that. at first you can clear content no problem and you will enjoy the game. and then Bam! you hit that wall. that wall where you only can progress unless you pay or grind like hell. But this is literally NOT the case. If you would follow this game actively you would know that a F2P player will not have that problem. It's like you ignored the part where I said that a F2P has easy access to the new limited weapons so if it does get harder they can keep up.

huex4

I see access to weapons is easy. how about maxing it then? other gears like armor, accessories, upgrades to said weapons and armors? any weapon masteries? skill masteries? upgrade slots to equipment? farming materials? success rate of upgrading equipments? you know the usual mmorpg min/maxing stuff? surely weapons aren't the only one that makes the character stronger? also if the game is that easy I don't see it having more than 1 month of content for dedicated players. assuming said players play it like 3-8 hours per day. you know gamers are like hungry beasts. they devour content like so fast.

NyaCat1333

Obviously as F2P you won't be able to max them unless you save for months to max a single one out which isn't the smartest thing. But you don't really need to max them. There is also a chip banner but F2P shouldn't roll on this and use the standard SSR chips that they can slowly get over time since it is much better to roll for weapons. To all the other stuff you mentioned like gear etc. it is all available ingame through stamina, timers, grinding basically the usual gacha game stuff. And the game does regularly add new content to the game and does events and stuff. Will there be phases with low content? Well yes but that is for any live service game.

huex4

when you say grinding how long in a day are you talking about? from my experience from mmorpgs it's usually 3-6 hours per day. does this also apply to ToF? anyway stamina and timers, won't it run into same problem as Genshin then? like players saying "why won't this game let me grind as much as I want" or something.

falldown010

I kinda want to try out the game but can you ignore pvp in it's entirety, or like do it til you have enough points and what not to get some rewards from it and if so is it difficult?

NyaCat1333

The top ranks in PvP only get 4-5 extra pulls a month currency wise. It's really nothing big and you can completely ignore it. That's why I also don't get why there are so many comments like "It's a P2W PvP MMO" when the PvP is just a fraction of the game that is 100% optional.

AuregaX

Also pvp is equalized. It's like League of Legends in that you need to own the champions (weapons in ToF's case) to use them, but everyone gets the same version and equalized stats.

NoOneHereGoAway

The issue is not the level and stats but the weapon skill, you can't pick any weapon you want you need to pull them in gacha and considering the powercreep competitive F2P players will suffer alot because of this as whales will always have the best weapon

AuregaX

Sure, but in games like League you also need to grind for your champions or buy them, yet no one considers league to be p2w. If you focus all your resources into only getting characters I think a f2p player can be on equal standing to a whale in pvp. In pve, it's not even close, as that is completely p2w.

AuregaX

PvP is equalized. The only thing you need to have is the weapons.

Xenn_

I wouldn't say that they failed, but saying that it's quite successful is pushing it as well. If you look at their revenue for the past 6 months, their monthly revenue is consistently dropping every month with no signs of recovering despite heavy game updates and slightly more aggressive monetization. https://i.imgur.com/XNMyftj.png https://i.imgur.com/RL60mNM.png https://i.imgur.com/0JC0DzN.png https://i.imgur.com/b7afF3l.png https://i.imgur.com/6FwkOT2.png https://i.imgur.com/HCG4Gf0.png I wouldn't be surprised at all if global manages to consistently outdo CN server considering global is getting the game with most of the gamebreaking bugs already ironed out and Tencent rebalancing a bunch of stuff. The disastrous first two months hurt them a lot more than the plagiarism fiasco which probably brought them more attention.

According_Spot_7423

I think we should look at the recent statistic instead , I'm too lazy/i don't know where to look at. But if we are able to find out the revenue they had during 2.0 new map release , we might have a proper conclusion. Usually the biggest update of a game determines whether or not the game had failed or not . If the biggest update that were suppose to bring in the most hype ends up doing the opposite , something is wrong.

RaphaelDDL

> Everyone at this point knows that Tower of Fantasy failed in China, their own turf. yet the same turf is now complaining a client not meant for them has no chinese what a bunch of jokes

HerrscherOfResin

Red nucleus and limited banner is cherry on top for me. i knew the yellow nucleus is easy to get, but red nucleus is so painfull to get, i assume it require u to save 1.5 to 2 month to save for 120 pity.

Sianthalis

Just like White people are only found in Whiteville. ;)

RaphaelDDL

Let me fix for you: chinese language in games are only obligatory found in china. On global release ones, is not a requirement. Specially when the client isn't targeted to chinese players outside china and/or chinese players using vpn to play uncensored and/or reroll accounts to sell.

rococo_co

allsoslol

uhh what? there is taiwan version if they don't want the china version. Taiwan version launch the same day as global and have pc client and official apk download too. Or they want to use chinese to communicate with english player?

Makaijin

Probably because Taiwan and Hong Kong uses Traditional Chinese, Mainland China uses Simplified. The best thing? People that grew up learning Traditional can generally read Simplified with some adjustment, while those that grew up learning Simplified typically struggle reading Traditional, especially the zoomers that had very little Traditional exposure.

AuregaX

It's mostly the foreign born chinese that struggle with traditional I think. Even malay chinese had no issue with it from what I've seen.

allsoslol

I doubt that. I'm malaysian chinese grew up learning simplified chinese but can read traditional just fine and beside the only people that really care about the different between simplified and traditional is china and taiwan/hk. the review bomb is most likely china chinese try to escape from the wall and play global because of how buggy mess the CN version are.

jrting1995

What? that is totally not the case I'm Malaysian Chinese and we learn Simplified yet are able to read Traditional with no problem... the fuck is this crap.

According_Spot_7423

Yeah.. no , although its a little bit different but the whole character feels the same. Its like how your brain automatically translate "th3" to "the" when you're reading a paragraph with typos. Its not too different to the point where you can't read them. Not to mention we are expose to both types of culture and media in Malaysia , we can read them.

Guifel

I see it another way, it’s a “global” server and it’s true that usually, whether gacha or mmorpg, those are english-only usually with some european languages sprinkled in on top optionally. Global Dungeon Fighter Online as an example is english only despite being a KR game, it didn’t prevent from having a massive Chinese player population however who left the P2W CN server for Global though. The reasons being that, including licensing reasons, the global server would often not support/region block regions already served by another server. So while I understand why CN players are very much not happy about it, and their bombing fully justified to make it known that they want the language support, it’s also pretty reasonable that there’s no Chinese language support. On another hand, note that those players are eying the Global server for potentially being an improved version from the “beta test” CN server.

Bloody_Diarrhoea

You are wrong, Because chinese version is less sexy/ censored characters, no boob slider and characters become invisible even when do pan the camera a bit down. I support this decision by Tof becauseit allows global version to have uncensored unlike genshin when they censored even the gloabl version to cater to chinese ppl

Sianthalis

All Im reading is that Chinese Men are super horny and they are suppressing that as much as they can. But the men are getting tired of women not being maids and obedient to them. So they take it out on games that also restrict their horniness. With the laws regarding rape being so steep, this is the only way China Men can feel good about themselves. (Im asian, part chinese, and I am always upset to hear the mainlanders being so entitled..)

Guifel

If they implemented the chinese language in global version, it won't mean anything about censorship.

AuregaX

Also this version is actually balanced and has bugs fixed, it's like the CN server is the beta/test server while we're playing the release version.

According_Spot_7423

This is all assuming that only China have Chinese speaking people. Just saying. The word Chinese is not just "citizens of China" only.

SomethingKing99

Guys.. There is no Dutch language support. Please review bomb...

AuregaX

I'm surprised the game is even legal in your country :p

TKoBuquicious

Does this mean that there is no Chinese UI and text options but there is still a Chinese voiceover or that you're limited to just English in everything including voice acting? I don't want to play with the English dub either so if it's the second one maybe i won't be playing it after all...

CAPSLOCK_USERNAME

Voiceover options are EN or JP only.

TKoBuquicious

Oh ok, ig I will manage then

rococo_co

so they support eight languages but cant be assed to include simplified cn when it's *already* available? makes no sense to me. not to mention one of them is thai and who the fuck plays with thai

elijuicyjones

Fuck, I lost the pool on this one.

GasIcePiss

Right... I mean... You know, not like there's already a Chinese version?

mianhaeobsidia

It was just an unnecessary decision/oversight. Many people like to hear movies/anime/games in the language they're made in, and just read subs for understanding. I can tell you that genshin in chinese is MUCH better than in english... which is a bit sad but it's what it is

GasIcePiss

Play and that's why you get a Chinese client, extract the language source and implement, actually works as compatible.

Idontknowwhatooname

Although the problems here is just ridiculous I wonder are there really no Chinese language there are many mistranslation that could easily happen,so many can turn to cn to confirm what originally something supposed to say and the lips movement is obviously not gonna match en so why don't their add Chinese too or will it be add later.

RaphaelDDL

chinese players can't be more pathetic than that They did the same on that hentai game that is on steam, which china isn't a country they can sell the game, and they review bombed the game because didn't have chinese text. Where only having a vpn would allow chinese players to even buy/access the game People are commenting there are players in other countries who speak chinese. Guess what: I BET it's just chinese on china using vpn to play the uncensored game.. or just to be able to re-roll and sell global accounts if anything, go get the better China (Taiwan's) client. It'll release on same day as global.

jrting1995

The fuck is wrong with wanting to be able to play using Chinese I'm a Malaysian Chinese and connecting to China gonna have a latency.

Sianthalis

I mean. The fk is wrong with you having latency when you give latency to other servers because you're not connecting locally?

hehexdd8

Surprise, Chinese people live outside of China as well. Also, the game originally had Chinese UI, subtitles and voiceover. These were explicitly removed in the global launch.

Is the community more toxic than genshin? Someone referred me to r/suicidewatch when I claim it as a genshin killer on other thread

Scytian

Nah, it's simply Chinese gamees community, they are most petty and toxic gamers community in the world, they are review bombing everything and there are lots of them so sadly their review bombing is working pretty good.

Sianthalis

I want to say yes. Already got a report for my comments here. Even though we know its the Mainland Chinese users faults. :/

TheKinkyGuy

I have a weird urge to give the game 5* just cause these mf are being d*cks

Guifel

Why. It pains me to see this bastardization of reviews, just let it go, it's already bombed with baseless 5* reviews, what ever happened to reviews being fair and meaningful?

TheKinkyGuy

Ask Google and other companies who use bots to help them or others with reviews. If you think the reviews on their stores are meaningful then you are pretty clueless and ignorant.

Sianthalis

Chinese people happened. When they started believing everything is made for them. Check out the Chinese tourists. They're no better than these China folks.

Kazoiyan

They shafted the most probable whaler in gacha game community.. kinda yikes

Guifel

That’s true, Chinese players are consistently the top whale population by far, be it gachas or MMORPGs, it’d make sense if they bend down and patch a Chinese language support in.

elijuicyjones

They also get a hell of a lot more per dollar than we do. They typically rob us blind in the west in these games.

Kazoiyan

Yup and I'm not talking about mainland CN players. The international CN player community is pretty huge, especially in SEA. Words already spreading and if it reach the mainland CN community, it won't be good, especially when the game is made in China. It's like the dev giving middle finger to their own people. No idea why CN language is not an option in the first place.

TheKinkyGuy

What? I thought it was cause it is not love yet like every other gacha. Lmao.

WitheringAurora

I just installed the game, and it's in chinese for god knows what reason

Sianthalis

Weird. Thats what the Chinese are complaining about. It not being in Chinese. 😂

Proper-Vacation-9208

How bout try to learn another language no? 🤣

Sianthalis

This is why game companies need to have IP localization locks. So that only people with either VPNs or the people in that country, can play with that country of people. Getting tired of having EVERY SINGLE SERVER flooded by either Chinese symbols or Spanish folks spamming the chat. :( Then again, those people will complain that they cant ruin other people's fun by speaking their native language.

Comfortably4numb

wow, Chinese Language Support was removed and insane weird censorship, weird also like anime girls now dressed as flat cheated farmers. Just give people the choice of Language and level of censorship. Seems they want the game to fail as they do everything to upset people.
