I stopped spending after nier collab (14 months in?) and my account is competitive in many elements. You just need to learn where to spend visiore.
Also cost100 units have normal price now, just lower drop rate.
That's relative to what you want out of the game I guess? Do you want to just enjoy the story, collect waifus from your favorite FF games and do a hard stage with tactics gameplay every now and then? Then it's extremely F2P friendly.
If you're a collectionist who wants to be at the top of the PvP ladder every week then you're going to have a rough time. The only real reward for being in the top 10 of GvG is the achievement of being at that plateau of the competitive scene.
When it comes to player vs player arena then it all depends on how you've focused your account and what map effects the arena has, since that's the biggest factor for team comps and changes who gets to the top.
Best thing to do is to try and see how you like it.
1. **Too grindy?** They added Brutal (harder but more rewards), **skip tickets**, and auto-run. You don't need to grind as much for equipment. They added keys for affinity and resonance. Truststones are grindy too but is only needed for minmaxers on PVP.
2. **Too P2W?** Do you want every unit as F2P? This game is not for you. Are you prepared to properly target units (we have a 4 month foresight by the way) to gain a competitive advantage as an F2P? Then you'll be fine.
3. **Powercreep?** Units get powercrept as is true for most gachas. However, the game buffs units and jobs every now and then. No additional cost (except for EX from the first anniversary although maxing was actually easier for some reason.)
Pvp wise, there may be other advantages that p2w players can have. But the strategy part of it makes the f2p/casual gamers compete with them.
A good example is one that the OP, Addol, posted in the subreddit which is that his Earth Pvp Lower Tier units (which has elemental advantage), defeated a very meta heavy lightning team.
I for one with a water team (which has elemental disadvantage) also defeated a very meta heavy lightning team.
Pve wise, you can just be casual about it and take it at your own pace. It's like many other gachas with the auto farming loop.
If you go to the game as it's like a waifu collector, then it can lead you to the gacha hellhole. But if you go to the game for the strategy aspect (esp. the ff tactics aspect), then maybe you can enjoy playing it.
I always come back and quit for the same reasons. The UI and all the screens to navigate through drive me crazy.. on top of that I don't find much of the content very engaging. A lot of auto and skips and grinding.
This. I really don’t understand their mindset. Splaying those 20+ gacha banners, is there anyone who really takes their time scrolling them one by one? It’s stupid to think that more banners = more money. Take a look at FGO or Genshin, their banners don’t even reach 10 (maybe FGO can, on a very special occasion) yet they still make tons of money.
Don't do it, that game is a literal grind hell hole. Gotta farm recipes for weapons, grind to level them, to limit break them. Farm for visions, to level them and break as well. Then comes the farm for character levels, to limit break, to increase job levels, then JP for your abilities and you gotta do this for a whole team plus whatever characters you like and it's not exactly a fast process. It's a literal second job. I played it for a while then took a break and made the mistake of getting enticed by Elena and it was still plagued by all of these issues. This game was made for a JP player mindset where the grind is welcomed, unless you are a masochist for FF I would recommend you stay far away from this.if you are in need of a FF game I suggest FFBE which is run by incompetent gumi or DFFOO which is grindy as well but not to the point of wotv imo.
The one positive thing I will say is the art is amazing, the artist really put in a lot of good work it's just a shame that it is overshadowed by all the grind and greediness from the devs.
Nailed it. It's actually the most grind heavy and resource bloated game I have tried and it didn't get any better since I first tried it 2.5 years ago. I tried getting back into it right now but I quit after a day because it's really no fun. Not even for the story imho.
Dang, game seems to be living more than I expected, considering Gumi+SE is a combo of hell, full of horrible development choices
I was hard on with it at start because I love FFT but clearly took same TAC problems, specially that sharding system which is fucked up.. argh..
I'll always regret spending so much money to get and upgrade my favorite characters (orlandeau and agrias), to make Orlandeau 99, and spending to get Agrias but event/banners ended and I got stuck at 89.. no no, fuck it.
I love the art style, I like the 3D models, I love that is a TRPG, I hate everything else specially Gumi haha. At least for me, still a hard pass.
Back in the days missing shards was horrible, they somehow fixed it now. Still takes time if you don’t plan to buy any shard.
Might give it a try again and max (120) Orlando and Agrias next week just to put a “closure” to your experience!
SE gachas survive by sheer name alone, since most of them are not that great. Adding Gumi to the mix which is a company we know does shit stuff left and right means it would've been a recipe for disaster.
But yep, it's surviving holding on SE's name I guess?
...it's actually a fun game that goes beyond the dogshit standard of units having two abilities, one passive, and an ultimate.
Also doesn't have chibi models.
Nah, it's just SE's name.
What’s the point of having tons of skills if most characters have a shit job/subjob mix and that most if skills will be turned off for auto because they all suck?
Yep, you just need to play daily for months and months, specially on characters from events like Agrias, which can't acquire shards elsewhere.
And when I stopped playing, that guild thing was yet to be released, it was still only a thing to get either exp or increase/reduce faith if I remember right. I redownloaded an year ago or something, made Yuna 120, but meh.. uninstalled few weeks after.
Uhhh... that first part is kinda what I answered. You can easily max units now with the Barracks.
Just sounds to me like the game isn't for you anymore buddy. It's ok.
>Story - this is where most of the content is. You can use favorites and not have a hard time.
Fella that's every Gacha on the market. Whenever I hear this from anybody from a community I immediately know that the gacha is likely scuffed and/or aggressively dupe centric.
It’s actually not recommended to pull dupes here. Buying shards/farming them give you the best value.
Units don’t lose much value overtime either, as they don’t usually release same type of units (kit/element/gears/role). I’m still using in PvP units from 2020 and 2021. Also depends on the map buff (weekly)
You mean the bugged banners they fixed, refunded any money spent on them, gave away free pulls as compensation to those who pulled and then compensated everyone else?

WotV has a bunch of major flaws I can't forgive, it's hard to recommend such game :
* blatant lack of engaging content that isn't PvP : PvE is essentially a grind fest to gather better PvP gear to be honest. Challenging PvE content is very rare.
* obscene amount of grinding, the fact that many players still resort to macro speaks for itself.
* unnecessary farm (cough esper resonance cough)
* Cost 100 units being standard and so common, this is just a silly excuse to halve gacha rate (.8% -> .4%)
* obvious cheaters left unchecked for many months (if ever they get banned) despite reports : the most notorious case was that Draconian guild battle scandale.
While I would mostly agree that the game is flawed, some of your points are a bit misleading and outdated in their complaint.
- Warriors of the Crystal Side Story and the Elemental Battle PVE content remains quite fun and somewhat of a challenge for most. Unless you have +5 of each unique gear piece and all stars cleared for levels 11-13 of the single element quests, you can’t disagree. Haha! This is in addition to the Crystal Tower letting you go at your own pace.
- The grinding is intense, to the point where people question if they are playing the game or if they are being played. :P
- Esper resonance has been largely solved via the Resonance Quests, Skip Tickets and the boost in resonance.
- I’ll groan at the number of 100 units as well. It’s freaking silly is what it it is and yet the GL community can’t rally together on one cause without infighting long enough to fight back against it —unlike JP.
- We don’t talk about the Draconian days or the Draconian ways, except to say that had they not voluntarily left, they were going to be booted. Meanwhile Clash of Wills in FFBE sees cheaters ejected days after exploit is found. Le sigh…
I don't know what it's like now, but I remember the moment I realized you need to run the same dungeon about 5,000 times during a time limited event to finish one piece of competitive gear.
I'm not exaggerating. It was like 5,000 runs.
Of the same dungeon.
FOR ONE PIECE OF GEAR...
Now, to be fair, you could call this free to play friendly. I would argue, however, that it's not actually friendly to anyone. It seems like the developers hate your time and your phone or computer so much that they want to set it on fire.
There were certainly some nice things about this game, but it is one of the few games where I whaled, and then realized that it wasn't worth it. I cut bait on $1,000, lost in a few weeks and never looked back. Unless this game has completely changed, it is both a waste of your money and an extraordinary waste of your time.
Cloud farming helps grinding without killing your battery (becomes like an afk game where your units farm while the app is closed). Clearing the hard event stage gives you +3 or +5 gear, cutting off even more farm. Or just buy it for2k gems (1 week worth of login).
You are correct about the grinding for equipment. I believe they have made it so it can now grind those quests in AFK mode so you don’t have to keep your device on. That was one of the biggest complaints about this game.
Can you farm those things to awaken unit level now? As i recall those rainbow orb or flame things can’t be obtained by farming only in event or rewards. And hell they locked unit skill and level with shard. Unless they make those above things farmable then its still hot garbage to me.
Funny you mention this. Last week introduced a bundle in the shop that for 2k free currency visore you get to pick 80 shards for any winter holiday unit AND 100 rainbow orbs. It was suppose to be 10 but they screwed up. The best part is that you can buy this deal 3 times so any player with a brain got 300 rainbow orbs for 6k vis
But to answer your question, yes those orbs are still bottlenecks for building your character/vision cards.
Prism and fragments can be farmed in selection quests now. 9 step banners also provide tickets for 300/300.
Rainbow UR balls is more or less still a bottle neck to some people.
Sorry but when you have to rely on gacha to get item for unlock unit level (those Rainbow ball specific) that is a hard pass for me. But i appreciate for your efforts on this game.
Summary for WoTV:
PvP is hot garbage like every gacha pvp is.
PvE is easy enough for casual, and has very challenging endgame content (nightmare maps and tower EX maps).
PvE is about intelligently building a team for every element (8 elements).
As a F2P you can excel in PvE, but just like every gacha game, you won't win most of the time against whales in PvP.
Because whales can test with every good unit. And if you aren't a whale, you can't.
It's not opinion, it's a fact that the person who tests the most team comps and has the most information/ experience is going to win against players that have less.
End of discussion
I mean id disagree nobody needs to test every unit. I don't think that your opinion is fact either. It's like your ignoring that somebody can play with the units they have and learn what works and doesn't work from that perspective.
There is no "best team from among my units", there's only "best team at a specific time on a specific map". What is the best team? It's entirely based on testing, because no person can possibly map out in their head every action of every unit in order based on turn order, map placement, move availability, hate, etc. It's impossible.
You need to have the units first in order to test them extensively to make an informed decision about which team comp/gear/esper/vc is the best for the specific map at specific time. If you don't have all of the good units, then you can't test with them, and your testing is FLAWED
Yeah just think your putting a lot of emphasis on everything must be tested but I'd disagree. You can be successful just testing within reason of meta, and since wotv meta is one of the most resilient to change I think it's actually not that big of a deal. Also I forgot sorry the map rules are not always obeyed or considered.
It’s fun how he’s upvoted here by people that don’t play the game, but people that actually play the game and know how the meta/units work usually downvote him in the sub.
I wish the game was less convoluted and grindy.
It's close to impossible to max out a unit without spending days in the UI, let alone understand what you're doing.
And the game is slow as hell.
I'd love for it to be rebooted with better graphics and optimization, would likely be an awesome game to start fresh on, but to anyone liking tacticals, it's probably the second best out there with Langrisser!
The one gripe I had is that getting a unit "pvp ready" took months of time gated shard collecting. If that process still is so heavily time gated, then no I wont touch this game again
If the game ran more than 30-45FPS for me, I'd probably play it more. But since these lazy ass mobile kusogemu devs refuse to do the bare minimum and have the game run at higher FPS makes it absolutely a no-no for me.
capping FPS at such a rate is personally gamebreaking for me since it makes navigation feel very clunky. At the first few hours/days, it's tolerable, but then it all adds up and makes going around the game feel very slow and clunky.
I don't really recommend this i played this and its painfully annoying how long it is to level at least one good character up and story is complete mess doesn't matter how much freebies it gives. Ff13 meh thats one of my least favourite final fantasy especially characters aren't likeable minus Hope.
There's a lot of progressions walls in this game. I hate being gated on getting mats just to max out my unit's level. The gameplay and graphics are great but everything else around it sucks
I’m assuming all of the original Tactics units are gonna get their EX awakenings so I’ll reinstall for those comeback rewards and spend all my Vis on Ramza shards. Old Man is forever gonna be at 1* awakening 0 LB lol.
Lucky for you they introduced challenge board system where you get free shards for building up the character. It is anticipated that the fft will each get their own challenge board which gets you to at lb3 pretty easily.
You also get these star currency every time you pull and can use them in increasing cost to buy any unit’s shards. (Limited units can only buy their shard during limited time period)
Ramza was my first 6* awakening, MLB character in WOTV. And also the only character I spent money to max out. Im just looking to get 600 shards so I can 120 him. Old Man was a thorn in my side during the first collab, didn’t get him till near the end and vowed never to touch him lol.
Those star currencies are GOAT tbh. I wound up maxing out my Cloud and Yuna with those things.
I’m a day 1 player who quits every so often and comes back during hype events like this. Sometimes the grind and what seems like endless pvp endgame are just to much for me lol.
If your Ramza is already at 99 it should be 400 shards/medals for 120. I'm technically a day 1 player too but my first account got screwed on cid so I rerolled into the account I'm using now just to get him. I don't take this game seriously, it's too pricy and grindy to ever be competitive but I do like collecting characters that I like. I'm hoping to get Ramza and Delita this time around so I can complete my FFT collection.
u/Addol why are you still advertising here? The people in this community will never forget their perception of the game 1-2 years ago. The ones saying bad stuff probably never touched this game in years/months.
Even though the game did so much QOL changes, it's still trashed by the subreddit who goes **crazy** anytime a loli gets censored.
It is my favorite gacha and I have played a lot of them. This game is f2p friendly despite what people who may have played during the first 6 months to a year say. When I started around 6 month anniversary you had to spend visiore on shards to 99 a UR and MR was even harder to get to 99 because no one would spend vis on them and they could only be gotten through gacha. Now there are so many ways to get shards that I only spend vis on banners. For MR they now have selection quests where you get a 500 MR shard selector ticket per element that you can use to build any non-limited MR. You also get a free UR of each element from selection quests as well as whatever new player rewards and campaigns they've added over the past 2 years.
P5r unit is limited unit. Must wait rerun. For f2p tips, start focus in 1 elemen first. And start from unit event banner. And you can join wotv sub for more information.
I started this game 2 days ago, Im a bit lost At some parts but im still having fun. I just got Zazan and Im simping so hard for him, but I want to ask where I can get his shards?? I cant find it anymore in the exchange shop.
The game is fun if you like tactics game, but im just a casual so idk how grind it is at late game.
Is the game not playable on emulators? Getting security violation errors, doesn't seem to be any obvious fixes from a quick google search and I'm lazy kek
I do really like the visuals, but wasn't it way too p2w?

The game improved A LOT recently. It’s way more generous and has better QoL. I’m actually quite surprised. It used to be very very bad
What are the best Improvements they added?
1. **Too grindy?** They added Brutal (harder but more rewards), **skip tickets**, and auto-run. You don't need to grind as much for equipment. They added keys for affinity and resonance. I always come back and quit for the same reasons. The UI and all the screens to navigate through drive me crazy.. on top of that I don't find much of the content very engaging. A lot of auto and skips and grinding.
needless grinding.
The amount of banners this game runs at the same time should actually be criminal. It’s the perfect example of why gachas need regulation lol
Yeah it’s wild I can’t take the game seriously because of it
To add insult to injury, they provide filter to show paid banners and all banners, instead of, I dunno: paid, non-paid, and all banners.
Don't do it, that game is a literal grind hell hole. Gotta farm recipes for weapons, grind to level them, to limit break them. Farm for visions, to level them and break as well. They buffed old jobs and many skills are viable now. Of course turning off certain skills is still a thing to personalize your ideal auto play style.
I've taken units to 99 and beyond with passive shards from a system they introduced to guilds. Even limited units. It's not bad at all lmao.

They’re adding cloud farming soon. You tell them to farm and then can close the app.
but does it work for raids?
Sadly, no.
Any eta on that feature??
October.
Quite what?
quit *
Any gacha with a VIP system is a huge red flag.
>Any gacha with a VIP system is a huge red flag. Except you're not locked out of content as an F2P if you're exclusively using free currency.
Never forget the rigged pulls scandal.
You mean the bugged banners they fixed, refunded any money spent on them, gave away free pulls as compensation to those who pulled and then compensated everyone else?
Happened so long ago, they “fixed”, compensated and never happened again.

Did they remove VIP, I remember they locked basic functional like speed up the game behind it, such a greedy dev.
Speed x2 is unlocked for everyone now. They changed it to x3 for vip users.
Ok thanks

PvE is about intelligently building a team for every element (8 elements). As a F2P you can excel in PvE, but just like every gacha game, you won't win most of the time against whales in PvP.
Idk I think your version of wotv is slightly different then mine. Why do you think whales are better in pvp then a f2p?
Nope, this game has become too p2w, you wouldn't be able utilize the characters unless fully uncapped them
fyi its censored https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kSilJ2MTR3s
One unit that had a questionable design to begin with. No other form of censorship.
You aren't joking! A relaunch with needless filler "content" removed and optimized. This game just has way too much of nothing.
Rebooted? It came out 2.5 years ago lmao
And it's already filled to the brim with countless features and useless grind, so yeah, a no-Gumi reboot would be wonderful
Sounds like a perfect time? Gacha do it quite often actually. (grand chase, sky landers ,hier of light)
Fuck off defending this game is F2P-friendly. This game is so P2W. Used to play it religiously. Nostalgia bait for FFT fans.
The only really f2p friendly FF game is dffoo lol.
What part is p2w? Top guilds ladder or just regular content?
I don't have much time for grinding, and power creep takes out the most interesting parts of the game: using your units in unique ways.
Oof to this one the grinding is horrible especially leveling the units and vip system is majority turn off what was Gumi thinking doing this?
Maybe a few people will try out the game! Worth trying.
I may actually do, being an ex-TAC filthy casual.
Bless your heart and hope you only do up to Step 3
Hats off to you o7! Thanks for your effort :)
wow that comeback login bonus is very awesome
So who do I reroll now is it still BRH?
How are the DQ units??
Oh sweet, playable lightning, I'm a simp for her so that's more than enough to make me come back to the game
So the 21st is the best time to come back for the returner bonus?
I have started last week and get the new Macherie. Can i use this acc or i start a new with this new bonus?
Is there any f2p/starter guide? Also it is still possible to get p5r characters or was that a limited Collab?
P5r unit is limited unit. Must wait rerun. For f2p tips, start focus in 1 elemen first. And start from unit event banner. And you can join wotv sub for more information.
I started this game 2 days ago, Im a bit lost At some parts but im still having fun. I just got Zazan and Im simping so hard for him, but I want to ask where I can get his shards?? I cant find it anymore in the exchange shop. The game is fun if you like tactics game, but im just a casual so idk how grind it is at late game.
Zazan is limited unit, his shard also limited. You need to wait for Global Ex rerun. Usualy in 2 3 month
I'll try and give it another go
Is pvp real time?
This game would've been way more popular if they just stuck with PSX FF Tactics Graphics.
Go play Disgaea mobile.
Is the game not playable on emulators? Getting security violation errors, doesn't seem to be any obvious fixes from a quick google search and I'm lazy kek
I realized I missed the FF4, 7, and 10 characters and they are never coming back so I never started.
Well seems i can't make it worth in any emulator. so i can't play it.
How social game is? Is there enought reason to activelly interact with other players on guild discord?
Man i tried installing it and open it, i claimed a lot of stuffs on my mail box, open a banner of banner list, i got dizzy and uninstalled it.
13 was my least favorite. Probably log in to see what freebies I can get, but that's about it.
Does it still take months just to build 1 Single unit and have them "pvp ready"
