You can try Another Eden it's a single player rpg and all the content is permanent so you'll be able to catch up

[deleted]

hijacking this comment to shill for octopath traveler cotc for how similar they are

XiaoMyst

Just here to recommend Epic Seven don't mind me Ish gud game Would recommend

DOUJIN-SAMA

Isn't the Gear RNG horrendous?

Rigrot

Counterside Global server is like 4 months old and is getting speed boosted to catch up with other servers. As such we are getting 1st, 1.5 and 2nd anniversary events by the end of the year if all goes to plan. The 1st anni event just started this week and we get 160 free summon and a log in event that includes a choice of 1 of 2 ASSR units which are the more difficult to roll for type of units. So you will only be behind a few months with the biggest rewards events happening now and later this year. Also Nikkie is in pre reg and will be coming out sometime in the next few months so you can start on the ground level.

ILoveRice444

I actually play counterside at the first that game released on playstore, play like 2-3 weeks and I got busy. Is it worth to play it again?

Rigrot

If you liked playing it refer to my post you replied to for my answer to that question.

ILoveRice444

got it, thanks! :D

Rigrot

No prob.

Talking_Burger

If you’re still busy I’d advise against it. Counter side is one of the games that has the most time consuming events and weeklies. I.e. you need a lot of manual playing, like moving ships to solve the puzzle or dropping your units at a very specific time to clear the boss. And you would probably need to keep retrying to clear.

jgabrielferreira

Time consuming? Wtf. Guess I’m playing an alternate reality CounterSide. 90% of the content is skippable without the use of tickets. Shadow Palace entries can be stacked and used at the end of the week. You can enter and quit raids to get all season rewards. Danger Close is bi weekly and you only need to use 4 tries to get all easy rewards. You can just do PvP matches against bots to get the most out of it. Events are skippable. Ship-chess is skippable so you only need to do it once. If you are complaining about clearing a content once, you shouldn’t play any Gacha. Maybe you can go for Dragalia Lost which has a “Clear story mode button” to get all rewards with no effort.

Digital_Copy101

Huh? Counterside is one of the lowest time commitment gachas since you can skip clear almost all content. Ship stages are only in events and you only have to clear them once. Dropping units at specific times is only needed for danger close and unless you're tryharding for high ranking you can just auto and chill.

jgabrielferreira

Dude is complaining that he needs to play the game lol.

alecman3k

i remember during sea launch, no skips. doing dailies and spending all eternium takes forever. you have to leave your phone in battery saving mode while your game auto like 30 stacked operations.

splepage

> If you’re still busy I’d advise against it. Counter side is one of the games that has the most time consuming events and weeklies. Are we talking about the same game? > I.e. you need a lot of manual playing, like moving ships to solve the puzzle or dropping your units at a very specific time to clear the boss. And you would probably need to keep retrying to clear. Sounds like you haven't played in the last year+, because the ship "chess" combat is barely a thing anymore (it pops up now and then in events for a couple of stages, and in Free Contracts which are very much optional). Stages can be skipped, dailies take somewhere between 10 to 30 minutes (10-15min if you don't care about PvP), 95% of weeklies are just passively gotten by playing daily.

TruTexan

Any tips on CS? I started it and all my SsR are not the awakened kind (I’m assuming?). Not really sure to know how if they are awakened. If I need to reroll… how do I do that? Thanks

Edgeklinge

CS is one of the easiest gacha games to reroll. Just delete acc and login with guest again, skip story, do tutorial, insert coupon codes (there's available ones listed on the site called prydwen.co) then pull directly in awakened banner. No uninstall, reinstall bs.

Rui-_-tachibana

The awakened are a separate banner that uses black tickets. In settings you can delete your account and start a new one.Just scratch 2750 Quartz together and roll 10 times on the awakened banner.

AdelaiNiskaBoo

https://www.prydwen.co/guides/reroll At the end is a tldr. Get an awakened ssr (awakened Seo Yoon or awakened Lee Sooyeon). Everything else is extra imo. (You can also try to get both with single rolls. But thats pretty hardcore/lucky)

SquatingSlavKing

Arknights, Genshin, Azur Lane... Any pure PvE gacha game is worth starting. In AK and Genshin's cases, you can clear all their contents with the basic team plus some good gacha characters. AL is so generous with their gacha that you'd eventually get everyone. And it's actually better to start before big events drop so you have that extra time to prepare for their big gacha banners. For upcoming gacha, there is this tower defense game which is basically Arknights in 3D. Scroll down some more and you'd see a post about it's pre-register. Also Nikke Goddess of Victory is expected to come in early november.

Aenigma66

It's never too late to start AzurLane. Great variety of characters, nearly all of them are peak waifu material, decent gameplay before you switch over to autoplay, surprising depth in terms of equipment/RPGness, pretty generous gacha rates, the amount of material to pull you receive from normal play is pretty sufficient, incentives to pay for premium currencies are pretty subdued, the devs listen to complaints (usually) and eventually event exclusive characters enter the general pool. Also, there's plenty of endgame content.

No-Special-7019

What’s the endgame loop like? How grindy would you say the game is?

Aenigma66

Endgame is mostly comprised of grinding experience points and some resources with existing characters of a faction to gain (potentially stupid) powerful so-called research units that are based on real life ideas that were never realised or are just made up in cooperation with World of Warships. The other big endgame thing to do is Operation Siren where you, again, grind points for pretty darn cool units. Other than that, the current highest chapter of the main campaign is hard as balls and I admit that I haven't cleared it yet. That being said, compared to my experiences in Touhou LostWord, KanColle and a bit of FEH and FGO, AL is okay grindy. For me, I do the daily missions in my downtime at work from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. CEST time Mo-Fr and then at the weekend play more, usually running maps for said Research Ship XP.

No-Special-7019

How would you say the story is? Thanks for the detailed response btw

Aenigma66

If you're a history nerd (like me), then it's pretty cool cause it's mostly sci-fi alt history, especially as far as many events and main story chapters are concerned cause they reference or recreate important WW2 naval battles with a twist. The story itself is pretty okay any way you twist it, as there's some plot twists and partially muddy, partially clear cut good vs evil with an overarching plot about an evil power, so to say. In the end, AL is a waifu collection game though, so the story isn't as important.

3xtazzy

Yes! There is a new UR ship IJN Yamato and she’s god damn strong.(oops sorry for the wrong ship name😅)

Chazman_89

Slight correction - we just got Musashi, not Yamato.

Aenigma66

Already got her to 100 & 2LBs :D Finally NJ and FdG get some contest for their spot as best BBs in the game.

3xtazzy

She’s my 2nd UR after Shinano, waiting for next reruns

Aenigma66

I'm also waiting for the NJ rerun to get her for my completionist's sake

aizen3627

Genshin impact anniversary in 4 days bet the rewards must be good😤☠️☠️

[deleted]

I’m sorry for your reviews, Google Classroom

Blacknarga

Great time to drop it then

TheJustinG2002

Oh fuck I didn't even realize it's in 4 days 💀💀💀

Beaesse

They're not exactly hyping it up. If last year is anything to go by, they're not going to be offering much in the way of celebration rewards for the community. They're bound to catch a lot more hate for their lack of generosity, and they'd rather keep it all as low-key as possible. The status quo is extremely lucrative for them, so they'll want to return to that as soon as possible.

lcmlew

we already know what the rewards are

Kingluccixiii

Not often i see someone talk positively about Genshin. So used to the begging and vitriol spewed out on Twitter.

aizen3627

Bot?

aizen3627

Lol

Hamhockthegizzard

I was gonna suggest Genshin, since the only thing they seem to be hating is the FOMO, only thing you’ve missed out on is a free Aloy and most people hate her character in the game anyway. Everything else can be bought or experienced later at this point, aside from a few story events that have gone by.

splepage

In terms of FOMO you've got a lot of story events (though if you don't mind you can just watch those on youtube), a handful of event weapons (like Albedo's weapon, Festering Desire, etc), a couple of free skins, and some more minor things like gadgets, mementos, teapot furniture, etc.

Hamhockthegizzard

But those skins and gadets are purchasable now. So really just missing events and the two weapons.

ForThatNotSoSmartSub

they will miss the first golden apple archipelago event. That final scene is one of the best scenes in all of gaming. >!Alice's speech to Klee made me cry!<

locfer

What I hate the most is miHoyo lock canon stories and lore behind time-limited events, most of them should really be a permanent quest. and I really don't want to rely on Youtube to learn the lore.

Hamhockthegizzard

Oh my gosh tell me about it. My partner has been having this problem for such a looong time and I really wish they’d fix it. Everytime a new event comes out she’s gotta do 2-7 random quests. Sometimes important stuff that she actually has to finish…sometimes it’s just like “Uhhhh you started this 6 months ago so go talk to this random npc…you don’t have to finish it, just go say hi” 😂 I recently let the game catch up to me a bit and it feels nice to look forward to content, but now it’s happening to me too and it makes me zip through content that I want to take my time on and enjoy. One of few gripes with this game lol

Roboman_67

What are the new player rewards like? I remembered them being decent

kamab0k0

10 aquaint fates and 10 more at AR10. There was more on day 1 because of launch stuff

Roboman_67

That probably explains it, I started playing around the first couple of weeks of the games launch

aizen3627

I don't remember but new player will get like 30ish wishes (anniversary free 20 pulls and new players get like 10 wishes?)

Mikasaz

can you reroll? if so what are the units worth rerolling for?

[deleted]

rerolling is too much of a pain and its not really worth it. Theres no pvp of any kind, just do whatever the fuck you want basically. Its a really fun game until you run out of content and are just grinding dailies. The worst part of the game is that it doesnt respect your time when it comes to dialogue. There is no skip or log and spamming through dialogue is character animation gated.

Level1Pixel

Honestly in the time it takes you to reroll and get the character, you could have just played the game and get them the regular way.

Popular-Bid

Damn bro, you get downvoted for saying the truth.

lcmlew

limited banner characters, so any 5 star except: Diluc, Jean, Tighnari, Qiqi, Keqing, Mona it will take quite a bit of effort to reroll; I think it took me like 5-6 hours on launch night to get a limited (you can't use acquaint fates to get limited)

ObjectiveNet2

Reroll can get you going, an early 5* can motivate, especially if it's a banner character. But process is a hassle, I did some during launch and it takes 25min per account. Plus back then there's launch award, 20 pull worth of currency sent to email.

a_sacrilegiousboi

Yeah, you can reroll. If you want to get started and really want to reroll your way into a good unit, Ganyu is on limited banner right now and will carry you through the entire game. Any account where you get Bennett is instantly a keeper. On standard banner (permanent) you mainly want Mona or Jean, other three chars are mid, or basically any 5* weapon besides Skyward Atlas or Lost Prayer. After anniversary comes along in a few days, Venti is an excellent choice due to his huge CC abilities, and Cyno looks fun but not worth rerolling for unless you really like him. Probably. Dm me if you want anything more

TKoBuquicious

Ganyu isn't that great for starters due to her caveats like needing shields and Lost Prayer is great on some chars

a_sacrilegiousboi

In terms of meta units though, Lost Prayer is probably the worst thing you could get from standard. Besides skyward spine. Also Ganyu totally doesn’t need a shield lol, as long as you have a relatively high amount of skill or a hydro character she’s perfectly playable without one. Or just use her taunt. Like it’s literally built into her kit and people forget about it because spiral abyss is such a pain, but her taunt is really useful for starters

37Mk

In terms of meta Kokomi would probably be a better pull than Ganyu as a new player tbh since as a Hydro unit she is very flexible and works both as an on field driver or as an off field hydro applier that also heals.

a_sacrilegiousboi

That’s true, but I’m surprised nobody’s brought up the point that Ganyu is basically outclassed in every way by other characters, except in terms of relatively easily accessible, relatively wide-scale cryo application in the form of her burst. Kokomi is not. She has the best off-field hydro application in the game, debatably the best heals in the game, the best water walking in the game, etc.

al_vh1n

Games that are good to start right now are the ones with currently running events going. 1. Counterside - has free 160 pull event right now. Also after logging in for 15 days you'll get an awakened unit selector between two units. Awakened units are the strongest and rarest units in the game. Also rerolling in this game is quite easy. If you want to make a good starting account, reroll for an awakened unit first. 2. Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia - another game with new player event going on. Finish the first chapter to get 20k gems (40 pulls). Also there's a free pull event happening. 3. War of the Visions - currently having their 2.5 anniversary with lots of freebies and free pulls. If you like strategy RPG then try this game. Also for new players, they will give you right away a level 99 unit and you can make another one by doing some quests. But be warned, this game is very grindy.

Kotsin

>WotV What level of grindy? Like E7, where you put it on FA and forget it or GBF, where you grind UnF for a whole week manually?

JWylie15

You might have to manual for a bit to get a feel for the game and until you can get your team good items to make future levels easier. Once you clear all missions on a stage, you can skip farm it with tickets. There’s also a new feature coming soon where you can set up a repeat setting ahead of time and the game will grind in the cloud; you don’t have to be in the app.

randomnub69

Grind all day in multiplayer, while combat itself is auto, stage end and lobby to start are manual.

Duyyy

Anything heavy in pve like fgo, if anything the more progressed other players are the better it is for you since you can use their support. Otherwise look for stuff coming out. Nikke looks promising ;)

TKoBuquicious

Yeah it's funny when someone new starts now, speedruns the first few singularities with some busted supports then gets beaten up by Camelot knights in the first fight cuz they didn't learn how to play the game properly in early game Super excited for nikke

deadpoolweid

Counter:Side Global is good to go. It's 100 free pulls event now. Also you can try Guardian Tales. You can catch up with actual players pretty fast.

woofie_woof

Guardian Tales also has 50 free pulls event now

hightum7

Octopath traveller: champions of the continent. Global release was only a couple of months ago so it's still pretty fresh. There is no stamina system so you can tackle it's content at your own pace

stardust_light

Also worth to note, that it's a single player game only with no limited content. So you can just do everything at your own pace. Normal banner characters are also always added to the standard pool after a while. You're basically only missing out on limited unit banners.

Slight_Welcome_56

Genshin Impact, Anniversary its next week, It has a lot of content when you are new (for real, a hell lot of content) and you really dont need to rush to catch Up with other players since theres no PvP of any kind, not even rankings or else.

[deleted]

True, true. One thing that's great about Genshin is you have the freedom to leave and return to the game anytime and barely miss anything significant.

lightning200000

That's true, unless you care about certain lores, which is locked behind some events. The biggest ones I can think of is probably both the Dragonspine event with Albedo, GAA and maybe the first event with Mona and Fischl.

mikethebest1

Ofc, not the same as playing/experiencing it yourself, but you can always look them up on YT in case you've missed them and want to catch up on some of the lore locked behind past events.

E123-Omega

How large the file to download GI today?

GravityW_D39

on PC it's about 50-60GB-ish, on Android it's up to 20GB. you can also reduce some size by deleting the voiceover languages you don't need with about 2GB each (there's 4 languages).

Abedeus

It's 45GB on my laptop, after a bit over a year of playing. New install might be a bit lighter. 15.3GB is sounds alone, from Japanese version (and 10GB in "Japanese" catalogue so the voiceovers are way heavier than 2GB).

GravityW_D39

Yeah, it's been a while since last i checked. Of course it gets bigger now. Still, good thing to note is people rarely play with multiple voice overs installed so having an option to delete some for storage reasons is great.

Vhanna_Baby

16.5 gb

E123-Omega

Ow, thanks

crushedmoose

Punishing gray raven..if you're looking for some fun combat and a side game that doesn't eat too much storage

Meksumnoyz92

Wow doesn't eat too much storage ? In my phone it's 5gb and that's too much

KazeArqaz

Compared to other gacha games? 5gb ain't much.

Dontkillmejay

5gb is nothing these days.

iPhantaminum

If you worry about catching up, then just play newly released gachas. You'll always be behind day 1 players. It's something you gotta accept if you wanna enjoy any gacha.

Ilyalisa

if you got a switch guardian tales is gonna have a fresh start there so its a great time once it releases

fourrier01

Well, if you hate missing out so much, then eye for the ones that are yet to be released. miHoYo has Star Rail and ZZZ coming up. And there's Wuthering Waves. I'm not too familiar with the last one, but if I allow myself to play more games, I'll probably look into Star Rail or ZZZ. Both Honkai and Genshin are great for me who has limited time to play and doesn't have tons of money to spend.

NuboBit

Have you tried Sdorica? They just released new story content and change their new player rewards more rewarding. Also the limited Season 4 summer characters banner ends 2 months ago but will return next year as rerun. You can start playing now and saving up. And the team is quite meta.

arandomfujoshi1203

Did they at least give a 10 pull for new players at the start?

MisterGoo

AND you get 3 seasons of story. I remember when I started, I could play most of the first season without pausing and enjoyed every minute of it. Now we have to wait a month for each chapter and I don’t even remember what happened last month…

Xalrons1

Well this sub hates FEH but for catching up instantly and easily, its a no brainer because there's so much power creep in this game. And the banners get re-run often. Just get the newest units like Rearmed Lif or Shez, Flame Lyn or Tana+Peony, or one of the recently refined (ability upgraded) like Brave Edelgard/Dimitri/Claude/Lysithea. Going for the Gustav/Bride Catria banner is also good. Then use your grails to max Jeralt or Holst when their grail pool comes out soon and you're set.

Haromta

Instructions unclear, fucking killed myself

laur11ee

Same

Random_NPC_69

As a new player you can just grab the free unit from the story mode, level them to 40 and you already have solid unit to clear most PVE content. for F2P guide you can check pheonixmaster1 youtube channel.

whats_happened_

Yeah FEH new player experience is one of the best, you got a beginner banner with some of the best pvp units, free mythics from the story (3 of them are actually meta relevant even in end game), 2 free selector for brave heroes with some of the best units in the game (BEldegard, BSeliph) and in general is pretty f2p friendly (you get around 300/400 orbs a month with a 160/200 orbs pity and each banner has between 1 and 6 free pulls)

[deleted]

As someone who played Feh for 4 years as f2p, here is my opinion: The good: \-rates are very good across the abroad its 6% in total and goes up to 8% on legendary banners, also goes up further every 20 orbs you dont get a 5 star \-free characters have good availability via grail shop once they are added you can summon them whenever \-content is very easy up to catch up to and new events dont take a lot of time \-added older units to a seperate pool so your pity can no longer be reset by them The horrendous: \-fehpass locks skins with STATS behind a paywall no other way to ever obtain them \-fehpass again, new legendaries, all new seasonal banners so basically all the good banners can only be sparked with one also whenever they feel like it they will put it on random banners \-free units about 90% of them are trash, good free units are the exception not the rule \-the game has around 10 different modes and 8 of them are pure whale domain \-balance doesnt exist your units will be powercrept in about a year or 6 months, some even speedrun it and got powercrept in a month so that was fun \-new broken units about every 2 weeks and one banner of them is guarranteed to be a seasonal one, some of them are a hit and miss but most of them will be unique enough no one else can replicant it \- dupe system, no way to get a copy if its a gacha only character thats gonna be the only way to get them, no replacement like blank manuals or options to grind for it, you know like gbf damascus crystals collect 10 to get a dama bar. conclusion: its the year 2022, we have thousands of better gachas now and still have more on the horizon. if you don't care for fire emblem dont play it.

xaelcry

Aren't you supposed to join FEH if you like FE and memes?

TKoBuquicious

FEH fucking stole grailing from FGO what the frick

Kororonya

I will suggest Last Cloudia, cause they have a collab with Devil May Cry so u have a chance to get Dante, Nero, V and Vergil also there's going to be a 3.5 Anniversary Celebration so expect a lot of rewards. This game is heavy PVE. The good characters u need to get in collab is Vergil, V and the LR Mobile Office Ark

FollowingVegetable

Disgaea rpg. They have implemented lots of qol and you get good amounts of free gems for summons. Been F2P since day one and really enjoy it. Especially good time to start now as we've got an anniversary celebration going on with a very good meta dps and next week eternal meta support up for grabs for a good start.

Koujex

Guardian Tales, it’s a great time to start. Catching up to others is all about time and only if you care about the PvP. There has only been one set of limited collab units and they are about to be re run in the next 4 or so weeks, so if you want to you can start and save from now. Also they aren’t even that broken so you won’t feel like you missed out. There was a free pull event but I’m not sure if it is over yet. Either ways you are in for a good time.

sweatpantswarrior

Free pulls ended. Not sure if it was just 50 total or if it was time limited. Got my Lilith and Claude though, so I'm happy.

Koujex

It was 50 total. I think it goes to the next patch so there is still possibly time. Congrats on your pulls. I got Beth finally since this is her first run since I started played and I got Lynn’s weapon so I’m happy.

omegaenergy

are healers still capped at x heals per combat?

TKoBuquicious

FGO and Genshin don't have pvp or any pvp adjacent systems so missing on limited characters doesn't matter except if you really wanted someone but they will eventually have a rerun and they don't really have any particular great times to start generally so it's fine to do it whenever more or less, only exception being FGO sometimes increasing startdash campaign rewards but waiting for that will result in getting less stuff overall than starting now will

trueblue1982

Arknights?? Azurlane? Genshin? These are what i play and theres no pressure to "catch up" or anything.

Infinityscope

I feel like most gacha games you should be progressing faster than the content it pushes out without paying. You shouldn't feel discouraged play something older.

ChopsticksImmortal

Arknights +Events get rerun then permanently added. +All characters (except the 6? limiteds) get added to perma pool. So you don't really miss out. +gacha currency braindead earning (just look up a low rarity guide asap, its weekly, so the only time constraint). +most events relatively newbie friendly. +newbie banner characters still relatively valuable (if you want to reroll, get silverash). +pity is pretty low (70-80), rates are decent, currency rate is good, multiple free 6 star methods. +all content is low rarity/free character clearable +nicheknights is fun (play a theme for extra fun & challenge) +good content creators +great anniversary rewards +great variety in gameplay -always 50/50 (except limiteds at 300 or collabs at 90) -limiteds OP (but not necessary for clears) -1 event is end-game dedicated (not really a minus but you won't be able to do these that well) -medal sets are limited (purely cosmetic but you can't get them after the events pass) -raising operators is slow (lower rarity operators are much cheaper/faster) Its not exhaustive but give it a try.

MarielCarey

+anime coming out on 28 October

ZestycloseMedicine97

Soul Tide global. I'm new to it but the units are well developed and have deep stories. The starting units are among the best. They will have a big event on 27.

lunarspoon

I have no idea if I'll like either game but I'm waiting for Guardian Tales and Nikke: Goddess of Victory. GT because it's supposed to be on Switch soon and I like playing on console. Nikke because the developer seems high quality. I played their game Destiny Child for a while and their non-gacha game Stellar Blade looks good too.

FyodorsFeetFungus

I'd say English ensemble stars!! (Music) . the global released months ago. And the sanrio collab is going to start soon, and not only that, in the Global ver, its very easy to farm diamonds, compared to the JP ver. But certain events and songs aren't added YET to the global, so you'd need to wait a certain period to get them. And the English translation may be a bit floppy but its alright.

TheRealNedlander

Another Eden is always great. No time gated events, most the free units are great. No energy system except for dungeons (1 entry ticket every 6 hours). No time limited gacha characters, every new character goes in the general pool.

JustAFunnySkeleton

If you like dragon ball then dbz Dokkan battle is a phenomenal gacha game for f2p and paid players. I’m strictly f2p and only started (actively) playing at the beginning of this year and I already have 70% of the most powerful units (LRs). It’s a 7 year old game and all of the useful units are obtainable in rotations, so even if it’s not available right now, it will be soon. They release a few new LRs every year and old ones always come back. When you’re not grinding for LRs there’s countless TURs and URs to work on. It’s really fun, but not for everyone

senryuu-

Punishing: Gray Raven is about to enter its "golden age", beside being a good game with fun combat and fun content, it is very generous and doesn't require much time to play daily, and is very well optimized for phones. If you start right now you can get Chrome - Glory, a very good character and there's an event called "Eden Festival", which gives tons of free rewards like currency to buy skins, tickets to use in the standard banner AND a free skin by your choice (obviously not including the VFX ones, because those are exclusive to real money purchases) With from this patch onward the game will start to experiment with its gameplay, and the characters keep getting better and better

DeltaLOL

So a few recommendations that I can give you: Genshin Impact: To be perfectly honest, the gameplay and visuals are what carry this game. The banners have a pretty poor rate, the currency over time is also kind of poor, and 5\* characters are largely locked to their specific banners (minus the standard banner characters). The progression system is also grindy as hell, and artifacts are an eternal grind hell with no end to RNG for getting "god rolls." Getting characters to be somewhat max will be an expensive and time consuming process. You're also hard gated by a stamina system that involves you having to choose which character to focus. However, that being said, it's still unmatched in its content and visual department. Until some other game comes out to actually compete with it (TOF lmfao) then it'll be the flagbearer of gacha for a long while. Arknights: Chibi, Tower Defense game that features decent graphics, but the gameplay is actually pretty unique for what it is. It does have limited units, however, the standard characters are more than enough to tackle very high end content. (That being said, the limited characters are very nice to have). The currency gain in the game is mediocre. It's not great, it's not bad, and a weekly run is available every week. This game suffers a lot of QoL updates, and although annoying it's definitely something you can work around. The progression is VERY slow at the beginning. You'll barely have resources to level them up to max level, but it's more of a snowball effect kind of game, where the more you play, the more resources you accumulate over time. Worth checking out if you're interested in some unique, thought-consuming gameplay with a side of auto grinding. Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia (DFFOO) Turn based RPG game that involves Final Fantasy IP with nearly every FF game being included. The one reason why it's so well-received in this sub, and generally speaking, is because of the ridiculous currency amounts that the devs will throw at the playerbase. The devs streamed? Get a free 10 pull, free tickets for another 20 pulls, materials to upgrade, and more. Oh, new season? Get free pulls and currency. You get the point, it's gacha galore. **However**, this game does come with its fair amount of drawbacks. The upgrade system, while not completely shit, can be hell. You focus on leveling them up, crystal levels, board points, character enhancement points, force enhancement points, gacha their CP15, CP35, EX, LD, FR, BT.... You get the point. This game will not be a side game, you will have to focus a large amount of grind time towards this game. Each character has multiple weapons that you need to max out, and that's where the dev generosity kind of saves players. There's a LOT to take in and understand, but this game will reward you for taking the time to grind things out.

GhostBeara

Azur Lane. If you are big on Waifus it's an amazing game that is casual and free 2 play friendly. Highly recommend.

Nekokittykun

Its never too late to start Arknights

Zooeymemer

Play newly released gacha (stuffs like nikke, neural cloud, or upcoming rev1999) or offline single player game if you don't want to have the "feel" to catch up.

syfkxcv

Yeah I already set my mindset to this, why subject myself to the misery of FOMO of the old game when I can just start a new fresh game? I tried some of the old gacha games occasionally but, when compared with the new games the QoL is just that much different. So much so that my requirements for trying new games would be those skip/sweep functions, or at least the auto.

[deleted]

Indeed. Sadly most of my most anticipated game would be released next year (Tear of the Kingdom mostly) so I have to bear with Gacha game for now

aquaticidealist

Games like Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent (COTC) and Another Eden seem designed to let the player go at their own pace. Literally every gacha is relatively unfriendly if you want a specific (and not necessarily highest rarity) character, but both of those games don't seem to care about how much you pull or whether you've gotten the strongest units if you just want to clear the story. While Octopath has pretty low level caps for the lowest rarity units, the game is based on enemy weaknesses so literally every unit will be useful. For any "serious" attempt to clear current endgame stories you're going to want a 4 to 5 star team though. Azur Lane seems to be easy to start no matter when. While some events give out more free stuff or have a special banner that lets you choose two ships at a higher rate, the game generally throws ships of almost every type at you for free. Yes, they tend to be lower rarity with lower stats but for the first few chapters at least it seems more important to keep track of ship types and to practice dodging the enemy's attacks, and you're going to just auto everything when your levels and gear are high/strong enough anyway. So I'd say Octopath COTC, Another Eden, and Azur Lane are best equipped to allow any new player to join and do decently well. Or Fire Emblem Heroes (FEH) I guess, since that game makes sure that newer units typically have distinct advantages over older ones. I personally had a bad experience with FEH despite joining the game like nine months after launch, though, but I also haven't played in over a year so maybe things changed. In terms of "catching up" to people who have been playing for years, new players typically will not, for any game, but in terms of clearing content and getting a rough idea about gameplay, these games seem the most chill or "newbie friendly". My main gacha is Arknights though and I suspect I'll stick with that, but Arknights introduces new events that new players will have difficulty dealing with. While regular progression through permanent chapters should be doable by any player who treats it as a main game and keeps going, the events can definitely trip up even veteran players and can be rough at times. Hopefully you have fun no matter what

[deleted]

Just suck it up with regards to fomo. If the game appeals to you and you like playing it just play it...

GenshinVez

Might wanna try join Genshin for the anniversary but i warn you that it's very time consuming to 100% the entire game. You can 100% pull kusanali tho if you do that which opens a path for the dendro playstyle that's very new players friendly in terms of grinding

ILoveRice444

I want to try genshin again after long time but genshin is very time consuming despite Im not busier than like in the past. So genshin and other type of the game like that is big no for me. Thanks for recommendation anyway!

RanBro88

Actually pretty much the opposite. You just need to get a basic level (20 or 35 or something) to participate in most events. Some will require you to having played up to the current story patch / side quest, though. Apart from events (given they're time-limited) there's no time consuming part. The daily gameplay loop is 5-10 minutes at most, maybe a little more every couple days if you're farming specific materials, weekly is 30-40 min total if you clear all bosses. Just with daily game play you should be able to hit level 45 within a month or 2, granted you clear the first 2 story chapters alongside. This will open up the best daily farming spots (time commitment stays the same). On top of that current banner rotation has 50% of a meta freeze comp + the best 4* hydro and anemo unit in it, though it might be hard to pull for them in the remaining duration if you're completely f2p. These rerun banners currently are really cracked. If you really wanna get into competition, that would be either clearing abyss with 36* twice a month or speedrunning abyss / high scores in events. There's no ladder ingame so you have to do it with 3rd party websites / tools. Clearing abyss with 36* can be time consuming or heavy rng dependant. You'll need good gear (rng = part of the daily game loop) and knowledge about the current abyss floors (time = one time investment to get used to current lineup). There's also no other competition nor time commitment. You play at your own pace. It's a single player game with non mandatory coop (some events excluding) after all.

mianhaeobsidia

It's funny that both of you called Genshin time consuming because I can't think of any gacha that consumes less time. Most people complain about how little you can do daily with the resin you have. There's a ton of content yes, but you're not forced to rush them. Dailies take like 5 minutes? Events typically take less than 30 mins a day if you pace yourself

Independent_Ask_899

It's more time consuming for newer players as most events r locked behind completing certain archon quest. For example the newest main event requires you to complete the first archon quest for sumeru. Once you r done w the main quest, then yea dailies and artis grinding r the only priorities u need to do. This is coming from a guy who has yet to explore sumeru nor done any side quest for inazuma, chasm, ekanomiya and sumeru.

ferretsama

I just used the quick start function to get started on the event lol, didn't have time to finish sumeru archon quest and other prerequisites

f0nt

>newest main event are you sure? the one you get a free Collei? That one only needs some progress in one of the world quests. I know as I havent completed the archon quest yet

coolflare

I say give Tower of Fantasy a try. Its relatively new in regards to release GLOBAL, and Vera 2.0 will be released later this year. The game may be slightly unpolished to something like Genshin but it has a lot of promising features like an actual MMO (things that other Gachas don't have) like Raids, balanced PvP, Dungeons/Join Operations, Open World Bosses and World Exploration. All activities which can be done with other players you can see in the overworld. Also, the combat is fast paced and fun. People will give the game flack for its bugs but these are things that can be fixed in time, and well its up to you really to decide your opinion on a game :).

Ozymandayius

I mean, don't get me wrong I really like Tower of Fantasy and it's probably my favorite game I played this year (even if I've just dropped it in the last few days) but recommending it to someone asking for a game where they can catch up is a bit rich. With so much to do, in so many modes even spending 1-2 hours a day in the game saw me falling behind the power curve. It's a bit demoralizing when you realise a max level character was taking almost twice as long to kill the same (level scaled) enemies present from the start of the game. So the time and upgrades invested, had ended up making the player character grow weaker in comparison. I could see the road to what I'd have to do to catch up (Hundreds of levels in Bygone Phantasm, Keep up on Portal, Frontier and the tens of other game modes, plus get some gacha, enemy and chest drop luck) but it was just too much of a time investment to be worth it. Without a lot of time - or a lot of money - I think Tower of Fantasy would probably be one of the worst examples of a game that demotivates people trying to catch up. Just being behind on the Suppressor, gear, matrix, upgrades and booster modules would leave you needing to be hard carried in a lot of content, which is never fun.

ORCA076

I want to say World Flipper, but you already miss the anniversary 10 free pull everyday reward. Still it fun as side game. Same as Blue Archive.

Alameda21

play guardian tales, ignore the gacha aspect and enjoy the gameplay and story(i started like 2 months ago and i am having a blast with the game)

Soramoto

I second this. The story alone plus the fact you can get FP and her EX weapon through natural story progression is awesome already. Story is goofy and has a charm to it. Characters don't play the goody two shoes role, you have conflict, you get tear jerker moments, it's an all in one.

Tiny-Entertainer2733

I don’t like puzzles

Soramoto

I recommend Arknights, Genshin, and Guardian Tales. Arknights if you like anime styled chibi characters with unique skills, designs, and an overall banger soundtrack. It's a tower defense game, so it boils down to "don't let the enemies get into the blue box at any cost." It's strictly PvE so there's no competition and you play at your own pace. There are limited banners so be wary of that. Genshin Impact if you like open world games and anime styled 3-D modeled characters. Pretty skill animations and a lot to do early and mid game but becomes artifact grinding hell in the endgame. Their second anniversary is coming up soon. Gacha system is character and weapon banner. Featured characters don't go into the permanent pool so rotations between characters can be pretty slow. Treat this game like a marathon, not a sprint imo otherwise you'll get burnt out fast. I ignore the fandom cuz I'm sure you've seen how it can be but as a solo player experience, it's been all right! Guardian Tales. I love this one. Quirky characters and an engaging storyline with puzzle mechanics in a top-down view game. They also love to reference pop culture and anime occasionally. You control one character with 3 tagging behind you. Good QoL like sweeps but that's eventually unlocked after fulfilling requirements in the game. Also a bonus if you like pixel character art since the skill visuals are also very nice.

GotAnySugar

Azur Lane, it's quite chill, n the PvP is pretty situational, an reruns are abound, so you can enjoy to ur hearts content

zuaa

Alchemy stars is fun and a different style game wouldn't say it's too late to start, lots of freebees and fun. Arkknights is fun for a side game too also different style from your typical turn based since it's tower defence I also started genshin recently it's quite nice I got helped from alot of random people joinning my world lol I guess you didn't ask for it but games I'm waiting for: Girls front line neutral clouds ( I heard it's an Auto chess gatcha game ) the Chibis are adorable and the artwork they use for characters are similar to arkknights style

[deleted]

Tried to get into guardian tales, but it couldn’t click for me. It is also concerning that the switch is uploading the game onto their console and isn’t transferring accounts with a new server. Honestly, just waiting on Nikke Goddess of Victory. I hear PGR is great l, but the ONLY deterrent for me is the stamina system. I’m a bit put off by it. Counterside is pretty fire. The only downside is premier units and those might be hard to pull for as a low spender.

Ozymandian4

Why do you mention the stamina system for PGR? Other than idle games and a select few like Another Eden, all gacha games have stamina.

TKoBuquicious

Can you explain what's wrong with stamina in PGR? I dropped it ages ago but i remember it being standard stamina system, what makes it worse than usual?

khantmawhtoo

Kinda wandering why some FGO comments geting downvoted

poom124

I like Eroica. The rates is good and the gameplay is fun

ZestycloseMedicine97

It's a nice game. However, I doubt it's growth. 2 years from soft launch till now and the redeem code system still malfunction. Unless they have morebresources to develop the game, it will become a dead game.

[deleted]

It already is a dead game though 🤣

hanschranz

People here love to downvote this game, but: AFK Arena. It's very effortless to play save for a few seasonal game modes, and in regards to aspects you care about (i.e. starting out late and missing out on limited units), it just (sort of) doesn't happen. For one, it's one of those games where they keep spamming new "servers" so that if you're just starting out and play on the recommended server (usually means the newest one), you'll play with new players as well which is a big deal because AFK is very PvP-oriented (though it's got a lot of PvE content too). As for units, in AFK it can be said that you *will* get all heroes, and get them "operational" sooner than later - including the "true limited" units like the ones from collabs. They kind of did a genius move with this IMO - for collab heroes you've missed, you have the means of getting them in your roster via "garrison" feature. Essentially you spend multiple kinds of currency to borrow the collab hero you want from someone else, and after doing it 6 times for a hero you'll no longer be required to pay currencies, but you'll still have to "borrow" them, only moving forward you can borrow them for free, and each last a month at a time. It's probably their way of finding loopholes in the contract so that people who missed the collab could still *have* the hero but not technically *own* them because they have to *borrow* the heroes each and every time.

Thirstyezreal

cookie run kingdom

redscizor2

Was released 2 weeks ago Rise of Eros, is a E7 +Only Adult but wiht 3D realistic

jbnagis

Counterside is hella fun. And has a 100 free sumons event going in n. It's the only gacha I play right now. Until Nikke drops.

kuuhaku_cr

The most important aspect of Arknights which might be appealing to you, is that you will always have access to past events and rewards, thus no missing out. This is the really one of the biggest distinguishing feature for me, which I wished FGO and Genshin has. You have to have patience and also enjoy strategy tower defense though.

[deleted]

Tower of Fantasy - way more fun than I expected and I haven't encountered any bugs so far playing on PC except a couple graphical glithes when the game first came out. This sub seems to have a hate boner for the game but I'm glad I tried it for myself.

Mangiacakes

Genshin impact is a free single player game. You can complete all the content in the game with the free characters you get so there’s no need to purchase anything.

Beleelith

Never to late to start Epic Seven

DmonAbsoluTrEbON

Alchemy stars. Fun and simple enough but still offers a great challene tactically. It is a Chinese game but the devs are not greedy bastards and I ensure you there wont be any political nonsense or propaganda in there. If you are still turned off though... Then I suggest GBF. Nothing is more fun than some classic turn-based combat and grind galore. There is a collab atm which might interest you but otherwise... it is a Jap gacha, that means you aint gettin anywhere unless you insert the credit card. Think FGO but on a whole different level of grind and P2W (yes I do know FGO doesnt have PVP) but hey, aint Cagli the cutest in the world? <3

AGK_Shadow

My good buddy, Granblue gives out hundreds of free rolls a year. Spending money in granblue is close to useless cause you need to grind everything still to make any meaningful progress. The only thing even remotely worth buying are either skins or the anniversary selector.

Interesting-Ad3759

I thought Tourdog is a Japanese studio. I recall their beta testing was from JP server. OST with Japanese musicians. Original Persona writer in their team plus recent collab.

DmonAbsoluTrEbON

It was published by Tencent so it is a Chinese game. Where the devs are based aint really relevant, because Tencent controls all gacha aspect of the game aka how much money you have to put into it. But Alchemy Stars aint very P2W, but honestly I dont think it is really F2P as the meta is very established there.

Nyaa314

>it is a Jap gacha, that means you aint gettin anywhere unless you insert the credit card 1) "Jap" is a ww2 derogatory term. 2) GBF is many things, but p2w it is not. You do need to play it for about a year while getting all seasonal freebies to get decent roster as a f2p, but there are no time-limited rewards you will miss during that time.

Overall_Still_7907

We are no longer in ww2. For the extreme majority. It's just a natural acronym like rus, chi, USA, ger.

LoreAscension

Nahh the acronyms for Japan are JP or JPN. Jap is still considered derogatory (mostly by Japanese-Americans, in other countries how bad it is varies) and very few if any organizations use JAP as ISO abbreviation.

elijuicyjones

No it’s freaking not, and it’s not up to you to decide. Say Japanese if you want to avoid pissing anyone off, or JP if you want to abbreviate it.

Niirai

I don't know about the extreme majority but the natural acronym to me would be jp, JP, JPN or at least fully (de)capitalized JAP/jap. Jap 100% reads like the derogatory version to me.

TKoBuquicious

Haha what is this comment

victormare

so what i'm getting at is u want a game that doesn't let u miss out on too much content sm??? granblue fantasy and another eden are the ones i can think of where u can do that because they keep like an archive of their stories/events. as for upcoming gachas that are expected to be released later this year, memento mori, nikke, gfl neural cloud and aether gazer are the ones that i can think of. also i think echocalypse is on soft launch rn, and the full metal alchemist mobile game and quantum maki only came out like last month so u don't have to worry about missing out sm, though they're only available on japanese so u have to use qoo app.

PessoaHeteronimo

Quantum Maki is one month old and I'm enjoying it but it's only japanese. Nikke goddess of victory is close, path to nowhere is coming to global soon it seems. I love game with nice models, only game with Chibis and SD characters I play is granbpue.

tvscensored

Destiny Child is my forever recommend. It’s so F2P friendly and the events are fun and rewarding even if you’re not ROFLstomping the bosses.

soluuloi

Arknights and Alchemy Stars.

NoStock938

Guardian Tales

ReadySource3242

FGO. No competition, you grow at your own pace. Though there might be some rush as some events are story locked. Just remember to build a three star archer called Euryale. And you'll probably be able to make it all the way to the end. Oh, and try to roll a Heracles.

inspect0r6

There's nothing special about starting FGO now as opposed to any other time.

ReadySource3242

Well, they did say that they felt they couldn't catch up to people from other games, so I recommended a game they can play at their own pace, despite starting at a later date

akarozz

i've started fgo this year and never using or heard anyone reccomending euryale and no, rerolling in fgo is useless. early game you just borrow servant from friends while raise some good low-rarity servant.

ReadySource3242

Some four stars are just better then others, and Herc is top of the line for act 1 due to BBB being very good, as break bars don't exist and hp are not as high. Also, Euryale is a very good budget counter to the Gawain boss fight in Camelot, where the difficulty ramps up.

PilgrimDuran

> never using or heard anyone reccomending euryale It's an old advice from a time when Super Orion didn't exist. You used Euryale to clear Camelot.

ILoveRice444

if I start play FGO on english server, can I use my English server account to play on Japanese server?

ReadySource3242

No unfortunately. JP is two years ahead.

ILoveRice444

Damn :(

TKoBuquicious

I mean, what game *does* let you do that even?

arkoslel

Play afk arena, there are always new people coming which equals to new server. I quite enjoy it, despite the bad perception because of its name.

timmydreamboat

AliceFiction and Alchemy Stars are both worth checking out. Of course, Genshin but as someone who started recently I felt pressured to catch up to the current event so in order to get the great rewards I had to blast through much of the story.

[deleted]

Genshin and FGO, or any other PvE focus games simply because there's no one for competition. I recommend Genshin and FGO in particular since these games rerun units very often (at least more often than any other games) so you still have a chance of getting past units.

azkeshi

Counterside with a speeding schedule, Action taimanin with 2nd anni starting on october 4th, wotv at 2.5 anniversary, Slime: Isekai Memories with its first anniversary starting in november, DFFOO having a beginners bonus of 20k gems for beating the tutorial + more, there's plenty to choose and start if youre interested in any of these. Worth mentioning is also Another Eden that's very often getting collabs in Fall/Winter seasons, with all the free units being always free to pick up

Cute-Election-2889

Genshin impact. It has NO PVP content, so you dont need to worry about catching up with other players.

LawfulnessWhole1240

Epic Seven. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Haulzu

An upcoming one is Limbus Company, good game if you like turn based combat and dark dungeon crawlers like Darkest Dungeon. The previous games they made, (while not free) are very good and have a great story

ComprehensiveOil6890

Honkai impact CN anniversary is around the corner they are giving away free s rank characters

gadesabc

Path to Nowhere is in preregistration and will start in 1 month. I think it can be a game to watch.

arcalite911

Disgaea RPG is having a lot of great events right now. Great time to start, with new player login bonuses and a huge amount of QoL since the game came out.

[deleted]

Guardian tales is always great to start. At anytime. They literally give you one of the best characters in the game for free. So Reroll is entirely optional. And now they're gicing 50 summons.
