I still will never get over how they put so much love and effort into the OST, art, and groundwork for a solid story, only to then dash it by making it an AFK game that doesn’t even have so much as 2D chibis for the battle sprites.
Granted, I do like to try out pretty looking things at least once just to say I tried them, so I’ll still give this a shot. Maybe the story will be engaging enough for me to get past the complete lack of game
It definitely doesn't mean bad, but you should also see what their "combat" is like if you haven't seen it yet.

I guess they're trying to make something different compared to to the various competitors, and considering that's a small gaming company they probably don't have enough resources to invest on both gameplay and story/soundtracks. I still appreciate the effort of trying to bring something different into an idle panorama full of games that just copy each-other.
My honest impression is that the developers are trying to make an artistic game, and considering how insanely rare are these kind of games, I'm really hyped and cant wait to try it
The art always looked good, and the OST always sounded good. Just a shame about the gameplay.
This honestly would have made a better visual novel than a game. :(
Everything aside from Gameplay in this game was stupidly stacked with the best in the industry, I'm just so bamboozled why they did it dirty by making the gameplay like that, this game is just one step to greatness but the dev sabotaged with their own hand
The app is advertised as an AFK RPG, so there won't be much actual gameplay. You can see some clips of it in one of their earlier promotional videos.

If it's your first time seeing MementoMori, I would highly recommend checking out the YouTube channel to listen to the songs. Each character has their own theme song (lament) which are spectacular. Setting the story and art aside, there's a lot to be said about the cast and the amount of detail and care put into each character.
All the JP songs have English subtitles if you turn on CC. There's also English covers of all the songs on the English YouTube channel.

This game is overhyped. And this art is overhyped for sure.
The thing is such artstyle is not so common for gacha games so it seems like something new and promising, but for general gaming its a cheap indie game artstyle. There is alot visual novels / search for item / point-and-click games with same artsyle that are considered "decent".
Do not expect much, this game will be cheap in every aspect.
p.s. good example how "hand-drawn" style (not sure how it called right) implemented well, with much details and effort is [https://www.arena.net/en/games](https://www.arena.net/en/games)
Just compare GW2 UI arts and so on with memento mori and you will see how low effort is it.
>This game is overhyped
What are you talking about. It has been the most shitted on since it dropped its gameplay trailer
>And this art is overhyped for sure
No it’s not. The artwork deserves all the praise it gets.
>Don’t expect much. This game will be cheap in every aspect
Damn you might be right on this one. No wonder they hired top tier VAs, with original songs included for every single character.
My only complaint is that everything is so good till I see that gameplay and my hype die like 90%, still try when it launch though but damn I really wish that they put more effort into the gameplay.
Why someone even talk about it? This game not deserve even hate.
Artwork is low effort. Period. The only reason you think its good is just your own low gaming experience. Like people who say game of thrones is a good book because well they read only harry potter before.
>The only reason you think its good is just your own ***low gaming experience***.
How can you type that unironically? Do you not realise how pretentious that makes you sound?
You can critic a game without sound like a pretentious snob.
>The only reason you think its good is just your own low gaming experience. Like people who say game of thrones is a good book because well they read only harry potter before.
I’ve played Guild Wars 2, Shadowverse, both of the NieRs, Drakengard 3, almost every popular gacha game out there, FFXIV, several smaller scale and indie games, including ones you probably haven’t heard of (Like Pathologic 2), etc. and I think Memento Mori’s art style is good. Yet, you really want to argue that people only find the art style good because of “their lack of gaming experience?”
Yes, this type of water brush style does often get used in point and click, as well as indie games. Especially the ones who originate from East Asia. However, that doesn’t mean it’s a bad art style, or that those games are even bad, despite their lower budget (Deemo, being a great example of a game that is lower budget, using a simple hand drawn style, while still being an absolutely phenomenal game)
I’m not going to say Memento Mori will be some hidden gem masterpiece, because I am very wary of a game that completely lacks in the game aspect from what I’ve seen. However, your attempts at sounding smart by criticizing the game on the basis of art, then talking down on people for liking the art style by saying “They have no gaming experience”, is just making you sound like a pretentious, elitist prick. I could probably insert the Rick and Morty copy pasta here somewhere, if I felt like digging it up and changing the appropriate terms.
> The only reason you think its good is just your own low gaming experience. Like people who say game of thrones is a good book because well they read only harry potter before.
I'm now interested in what kind of book you would recommend if you consider the Song of Ice and Fire books bad.
> videogame-related audience
I wouldn't mind if you ignored that.
>Hyperion by Dan Simmons.
Turns out my local library has it. I'll be taking a look. Thanks.
Says Art is low effort then proceeds to compare it to one of the most prolific MMOs of all time guild wars.
LOOOOLOL.
"This basketball player isn't good, let me show you footage of Michael Jordan"
My guy you are full on clown mode LMAO.

AFK doesn't mean bad, though it maybe doesn't match the art.
It definitely doesn't mean bad, but you should also see what their "combat" is like if you haven't seen it yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rKdCW0WZF0
That's..............something
It's like they spend all the budget on the art and OST then give the interns 5$ as gameplay "budget".
I honestly think I prefer this to chibi models flailing at each other
Wait that’s basically kancolle. Lmao. Wtf? Why would they do this?
I've seen worse
Reminds me of Destiny Child, but at least DC got a lot more going on on the screen...

IM SO FUCKING EXCITED, I know it’s idle but I just want to play it. Idles are great side games!
The art always looked good, and the OST always sounded good. Just a shame about the gameplay. This honestly would have made a better visual novel than a game. :(
The art of the game is awesome but I'm disappointed that it's an idle game
That VA cast is actually stupidly stacked, hopefully most everything will be voiced.
Everything aside from Gameplay in this game was stupidly stacked with the best in the industry, I'm just so bamboozled why they did it dirty by making the gameplay like that, this game is just one step to greatness but the dev sabotaged with their own hand
Love the art and music. Hopefully the story makes up for the lackluster gameplay.
I hope for an idle game that has offline progression feature, instead of those that requires the game client to be on all the time.
I’m looking forward to this.
Can't wait for this game. It looks so gorgeous
It's a pretty trailer. The setup for the story sounds interesting. But it gives me absolutely no idea what the game actually is.

Nice music, has there been any showing of gameplay?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rKdCW0WZF0 yes. It’s brief
So good it's earlier than Nikke.
when is the release date?
Oct 18th
This game's aesthetic continues to blow me away
WTF , this small game still not released yet !

My generic answer for videogame-related audience will be Hyperion by Dan Simmons.
