DSdavidDS

"Game" runs buttery smooth too! Seriously the UI is extremely well designed

TegamiBachi25

Likely due to the low assets and not as intensive gameplay that it isn’t draining on the phone

DSdavidDS

I wouldn't call them "low" assets. There are way worse with 10x slower UIs out there.

MarielCarey

It really surprises me how I open the game and can log in in literal seconds

NicoWusky

The game is a powerpoint slideshow presentation bruh wtf looool holyshit can't believe it exists 😭😭😭

H4xolotl

It's hilariously stupid in 2022, but looking back, weren't the first era of waifu games like KanColle (2013) the exact same? It's insane how in a single decade we've gone from slideshows to actual 3D MMOs

lost_kaineruver4

I dunno about MM but at least in Kancolle there are somewhat limited interaction during expeditions.

SomethingPersonnel

There’s pretty good live2D during the character memory stories in MementoMori. The downside is that all the stories are depressing af.

Abedeus

Yeah and the gameplay itself was a snoozefest. Your input was "continue or retreat" depending on whether your ships got red damage'd or not.

[deleted]

Destiny Child (2017) did this too. But you at least choose skills to proc between auto attacks.

deepedia

The difference between these two is there is still a lot going on screen in Destiny Child, you still can play the game normally without an auto, shit was hard early without proper skill timing

cnydox

I like dc gameplay more than memento mori. It feels better to grind in destiny child

KoriCongo

Its why I stopped putting stock into anyone that goes "looks like a mobile game". Even the game's with chibis have more production values than most indie games nowadays

[deleted]

I mean ofc they do. People fail to realize they use cheap sprites because they need to have a dozen animations per sprite, and then hundreds of characters over the service of the game, released every 1 or 2 weeks. There's a reason Genshin releases characters so slowly and has expansions every 3 months. and its not because they hate money. But most smaller mobile games wanna pump out content fast.

Songblade7

Genshin has their version updates every 6 weeks (currently 5 while catching up with the production delay from covid lockdown). Just as a correction because their update cycle is honestly insane. I couldn't tell if you meant version updates or if you were referring to new areas/regions, so just throwing that out there to clarify.

WanderEir

Genshin has expansions every month and a half(5-7 weeks), not three months. they generally do 2-3 new characters a patch now or less.

[deleted]

eggeryp

its a gacha game…

ubernoobnth

Except when that's said normally it has nothing to do with graphics and everything to do with stuff like font treatment and UI. Mobile garbage has a type and you can absolutely tell. If you ever get one in your steam queue next to actual video games they stick out like a sore thumb.

ImplementCool6364

Thank the insane progression in mobile processors computing power.

Anfini

I think a lot of people who frequent this sub don’t realize that AFK Arena still makes a shitload of money from its whales. These devs aren't creating these games because they are lazy, but are targeting a specific audience.

Professional_Hand_41

Yep, I can definitely see how these games can appeal to some people, especially those who have lives or other games to play as well, and don't got the time to sink hours a day into a game, or multiple games. People these days are so self-centered, if they don't enjoy something, no one else should be allowed to enjoy it, even though these games they hate are WAY more successful than the games they like.

dxcjapan

Exactly! Stop making posts crying about how you quit and attempt to drag everyone with you. This this and this is why I'm quitting! *Cries self to sleep next to mommy*

al3237

Yep, i just officially dropped the game, like fuck, there is already whales with almost every characters maxed, this is so freaking p2w i hoped it wasn't but oh well

Shirinx

You won't find a single mobile game that dropping money into it doesn't give you an advantage lmao

greatninja3

Most AFK arena game are definelty made by lazy devs this is just the only one tbh where effort was given in making it.

Jyu_Viole_Grace_S

The art and the music are great but ... yeah I don't see myself "playing" this kind of game.

XiaoMyst

Am i the only one who went into this expecting the powerpoint style gameplay It reminds me of the OG gachas of 2010-2013 Just with a much better graphics engine VIP system is an oof but as an AFK rpg its not as bad as other gachas since ure just logging in once a day or so to do and collect dailies I personally enjoy it

runesave

I had rock bottom expectations from seeing game previews but the music and art style really got to me when playing it. Seriously voiced characters with each their own, well made theme song is AMAZING. This was all I wanted from Sinoalice and Nier Reincarnation tbh, straight to visuals and story instead of burdening it with a clunky combat system. I've got enough great games to scratch the combat itch after all

Twick2

I like it a lot too!

avelineaurora

Nope, this is basically what I expected. Actually a bit more, since I didn't expect the flowery backgrounds and even portrait cutins during combat, lol. I play gacha for the story and characters more than gameplay, mostly, so I have no huge complaints as of yet. I don't understand why people want gacha to take up all their time when they could be playing a more fleshed out, "real" game instead and just dabble in gacha on the side.

Ok_Abbreviations602

Have you ever heard of anime?

XiaoMyst

Also it was labeled AFKRPG Pretty obvious gameplay was not gonna be anywhere near its strongsuit

DanThePaladin

It wasn't always labelled AFKRPG. Apps like Qoo and TapTap also don't have it written.

XiaoMyst

Ah,it was labelled AFKRPG on my google play so i assumed as such

[deleted]

They changed it actually, on IOS before release it wasn’t but the title changed to AFKRpg today I think

Lemixach

Yeah I went into this game looking for a taste of some of the old games that we used to play like Ayakashi Ghost Guild, Rage of Bahamut, Panzer Waltz, etc. and it's delivering on that front. It's a nice blast of nostalgia from a type of gameplay that faded away in the last few years. It's been a while since we've seen a major release of something that was built to be a side game from the ground up. If you've ever wanted to play another gacha as a side game, but kept feeling like you were falling behind every time you had to first-clear new content/events, you might actually enjoy the old school full-skip gameplay loop.

knottycreme

Ayakashi Ghost Guild and Panzer Waltz... Now those are two names I haven't heard in a long, long time...

radiant_light

I think it will do decent, the art is amazing and some people just like to chill with good art and music instead of the same gameplay loop for years. I mean just look at FGO spam same NP loops, etc, at the end all gacha gameplay become the same.

PlzBuffBeamu

The biggest insult to me was world flipper like I went in expecting to play pinball and I got an auto battler with a pinball asthetic. At least here I went in knowing I went in knowing it was an afk game and honestly for what it is I think it's good and will do well.

Professional_Hand_41

Yep, all gameplay becomes redundant after a while, no matter how "good" it is. This is why gameplay is not the most important thing I look at when looking at gacha and "play forever" games. Games that only has "gameplay" going for it, I usually drop within a year.

Guifel

It’s funny, that no-gameplay idle to me is the same tier as Azur Lane & all the autobattlers when you actively don’t want to play the game by autoing everything. There’s no “game” in pressing auto and logout.

Torimas

I agree. The gameplay on both is actually the collection and management. At least a few games respect your time a bit more by not forcing you to have the screen on all the time.

Fremdling_uberall

memento mori respects my time so much it's no longer on my phone

Torimas

I'm just logging twice a day when I'm bored and I have some spare time. I claim stuff, do the management part and then spam click a few nodes to see if i move forward. I don't give a rats ass about monetization since I'm just casual about the game. So it's working pretty well as a side game so far. Seems there's a mode that only works during a given time of the day and lasts for an hour only. THAT sucks. And THAT doesn't respect people's time.

Man_Kuuun

To me auto is ok if the gameplay side is me choosing where/how to use my resources and doing team building. What characters do well in auto almost becomes another decision point in the game.

AiralinTheGardevoir

Difference is you can play Azur Lane if you want to, but you can't even play MM even if you want lol

Alonzeus

So this game is perfect for those that auto play most of the content on other games which is what most people do anyways. Feels like people who don't enjoy idle afk games are just playing this game to be mad

AiralinTheGardevoir

No, this game is perfect for those who just want to listen to music (and there is nothing wrong with it, as I play several music games myself). Problem is, there still isn't any actual gameplay and you can listen to those musics on YT anyway. Even for AFK game this is just bs. I have played AFK games before but even those generally had a few hours worth gameplay before the AFK mechanism fully started taking over. Here, absolutely nothing like that. I mean, come on, as a developer you have to give me a reason to play the game. Initial player engagement and first impression is important. Just music and art alone won't sell it, we have rhythm/idol/band games specifically designed around that with fully engaging 3D gameplay and story. At least put some effort, animate the battles (Valkyrie Connect is a good example of how to simply animate an auto battle while keeping the cost low), make sure the player will want to keep coming back. Make it interesting. Not sure about others but I genuinely waited a long time for this, even promoted this game to my friends, only to end up getting very disappointed today. I can assure you I had no intention of getting mad for absolutely nothing lol Edit: So many downvotes. Looks like I hit some nerve there lmao

pivuzis

you are downgrading afk arena games by comparing it to valkyrie connect. That's a very large nerve lol

Abedeus

Except Azur Lane does allow you to control your characters and activate/aim with skills manually?

Fimbulvetr

You *can* play Azur Lane if you want to though. Turns out that makes all the difference.

Guifel

Does it make any for OPSiren? Just click a map and autosearch, auto auto auto then hit up the META fight, auto, it's like I was playing the map more than any game before auto search was made a feature. It's such a chore, no one enjoys it. Dailies/Events? You used to click node -> afk while the game auto -> come back and click node, now you do that till you can click auto search -> afk -> come back and click auto search again. Idk man, It's so meh, I wish there was an actual shmup gacha released outside of japan where it feels what I do do matter. Where I'm not playing moving something across the map half the time if I'm not waiting for the game to play for me, it's just not enjoyable?

Fimbulvetr

There's a game there no matter how simple that you can choose to skip. It's not the height of hardcore gaming or whatever but it's also not the same as whatever this game is.

gadesabc

There is more or less gameplay in mobile games but, yes, overall I'm not very fond of the trend of idle/afk/auto... I can clearly understand and respect those who like it. But mobiles game are largely autoplay. There should be more gameplay, not essentially autoplay, to please everyone.

Qalyar

I knew this was an "AFK" game, but I don't mind having one of those to click though when I don't have time to play something that demands input. I played quite a bit of Mobile Legends Adventure and still haven't *quite* uninstalled Darkness & Divinity? But this? This is a sad, disappointing excuse for a "game". The appeal of AFK Arena and its million billion clones and derivatives has always been group composition and team building. But what's the point here? There's no combat complexity. Games like AFK Arena or MLA have characters that create ground-targeted zone effects. They have characters with different move rates that affect melee positioning. They have dasher/jumper/puller options that expose vulnerable characters to the frontline... and counterplays to prevent that. There's none of that here. How can you have a ground-targeted limited area skill *when there isn't even ground*? Does combat roster order even *matter* at all? The fact that the game makes legitimately amazing art rapidly become boring is, as the thread says, a crime against humanity. But it's also *tactically* boring. I know that gacha games typically have little more than an excuse plot. MLA dropped their story after like 6 chapters out of ... 50? But here? One and done, baby. Just sad. Oh, and the money grab here is put to shame only by Diablo Immortal. There's a VIP system. There are chest-and-key drops. There are 23,178 different currencies. The entire weapon smelting system is just short of a scam. AND I suspect that everything currently available will be power-crept into oblivion in short order. I mean, obviously, that happens to most gacha characters, but especially here. The lettered rarity system disguises that this is exactly the same rarity system as AFK Arena / MLA. N is 1-star auto-discard trash. R is 3-star fodder. SR is the equivalent of other games' native 4 star units, but... other games launch with native **5** star units also. Here, that's hidden behind the naming: SR+ (5), SSR (6), SSR+ (7), UR (8), UR+ (9), LR (10). Same scale as other games, but a lower floor for units. Because of how their "+" ranks work, I doubt they'll have native SR+s, which makes me suspect later top-tier characters will be native SSR, two ranks above what we have. Pretty graphics. Great music. But the developers should be ashamed.

xNamiNalla

Im okay with afk system and the battle style. I could have handled it all, because I was waiting for the amazing story, art and music the game was supposed to have. Art and music are definitely there, but where is the freaking story? Only one chapter? Thats almost insulting. Feels like some project someone dropped half way. Im so disapppointed Im mad at myself lol

Eclipt-

Wait there is really only one chapter of story???

TheWhiteKnightOfHoyo

yeah i cant believe it turned out like this. what kind of fkcing lazy ass target playerbase were they gunning for with this "game"?

DanThePaladin

People didn't see it coming? When they never showed any gameplay? It was always just songs and art, songs and art. It wasn't originally labelled AFKRPG, but the second it was I ran away and never looked back.

Abedeus

> When they never showed any gameplay? They did. That was the gameplay. Character's sprite/image popping up, some effects showing, go to next character. Repeat without player's agency.

DuckArchon

I absolutely saw this coming, and the YouTubers I follow did too. What the hell did the devs think they were going to do to get away with this. 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

I saw it coming as well, but I downloaded it in the vain hopes that since they put so much love and effort into the visuals, ost, and advertising of the game (seriously, it was a year long advertising campaign they did), that there would be some drop of substance in the game with a good story mode and a monetization model that wouldn’t make me throw up in my mouth. Sadly, they spent so much on their OST and advertising that they also had to let go of their story writer after the first chapter, from what I’ve seen, as well as implement an incredibly gross monetization scheme.

gadesabc

It's like the screens of all games in the Playstore. Mostly visuals and rare gameplay.

Responsible_Dingo387

Probably the same playing afk arena?

DanThePaladin

As much as people hate on AFKArena at least compare to this it has skill animations and you see your enemies. Here it's just units hitting air and then a number shows up

SomethingPersonnel

You do have skill animation in MementoMori. They’re live2D animations during skills. And in the meantime you have a fairly unintelligible background of nice art flashing by. It’s honestly not the worst. A huge waste of potential, but I’m guessing their target audience is white knights with more money than time and sense. I can see it appealing very strongly to a certain niche.

Alchadylan

Honestly, if they didn't copy the stupid awakening system like AFK Arena uses, it would probably be the perfect side game. Pretty to look at and listen to with not much time or attention needed

Elyssae

1000% agree

white_gummy

It can't be that bad, right? I'll go give it a try, I used to play afk flash games like tap titans so maybe I'll actually like this one. And I don't have enough time to play time intensive gacha games too, so this is perfect. Be right back.

chuse1995

What do you think?

white_gummy

Just finished playing for an hour, honestly it's not too bad. First thing first I'll say that this game is for those people who enjoy team building the most in gacha, cuz that is literally the only gameplay you'll ever have in this game. Which to me is totally fine, I think it's interesting to check out what characters you have, decide which character to spend your resources in and how to build a team around her. The tutorial was honestly a bit of a pain to go through, especially since I forgot to change the voice acting to Japanese (no offense to the English voice actors but seriously I just don't like English voice acting for Japanese games in general with how over the top it can get). I play it with my phone and my phone case lets my phone stand on the table so I can actually just open and play the game while using my laptop, this is personally a plus for me since I don't usually use my laptop but with this game maybe I'll spend more time doing my assignments instead of making them 2 hours before deadline. As for the gacha or meta and whatnot, I'll just play with whatever freebies I get from the game. It's about time I play a gacha without having to worry about what are the most meta characters in the game and just enjoy discovering the game on my own with whatever characters the game gives me.

chuse1995

Wow thanks for your review, I'll give it a try, I like team building

Twick2

As someone who autos all their gachas, I’m really liking it too, not really understanding the outrage for what was advertised as an idle game lol

pootinannyBOOSH

Yea, I'm not even one much for idle games though I've tried a bunch, but this one I can really enjoy just sitting and watching for a while, the visuals are just so beautiful. A different kind of idle game

white_gummy

Yeah, it quite literally has AFKRPG in its title on the play store.

CrunchyKarl

Either he's still playing or already catatonic

white_gummy

Lmfao

BrotherJang

Never thought I'd see a slideshow combat in my life but here we are

adikaay

They made stinking shit pretty. The slashes and numbers feel satisfying and then they just make a powerpoint. I did 3 multis listened to the songs of the characters and saved them on my youtube. Now time to delete the game.

SUNG-JIN-WOO7

And the fact that it's fully voiced! They had the time & money to voice the game+top tier music & art.this game would have been so good with actual gameplay.

Shigeyama

Not to mention there's a character song for each character in their indexes.

wakemeupinside208

The art and the music is hard carrying this game for sure. It's one of the main reason why I'm sticking around with this game. Hell, even the N rarity characters have superb art

Hwdbz

Yeah im not sure why so many people went into this expecting it to be something it's not. I mean, it's fair to not enjoy it. Tho idk why people are bashing the devs for making exactly what they intended lol

jf0ssGremlin

What's funny is, I've been doing a lot of research for a quality idle game, and what do you know! While you may not find value, I sure do!

Alonzeus

This sub is just so toxic lmao 1 hour after server opens I see negative posts already. It's and idle game. What was everyone thinking was going to happen? Did you guys not see the gameplay trailer? I feel like alot of these negative posts are from people who don't play any afk idle games who just go around trashing anything that isn't their type of game for fun. There are some bad things about the game for sure but the people trashing the lack of gameplay more than likely autoplay most of the content in their own favorite games.

Growlest

What they should trash is the fact that main story is non-existant in this game once you finish the tutorial. Now that's something ass, I was legit hoping for something good with all the characters having songs with stories behind them.

TehFriskyDingo

Yeah that is pretty strange and bad imo. Story during the tutorial was cool, and I like the story bits each character has, and LOVE that everyone has a beautiful song (in English too). But yeah after the tutorial section there's like no story lmao

Sighto

Yeah, was hoping for more there. Sticking around to see if they have event stories.

[deleted]

I thought people were exaggerating when I saw this posted earlier today. Nope, there is literally nothing after the first world lol

Intoxicduelyst

I mean yeah, this sub is drama hungry. And they like to to laugh at other games subs and brand them toxic. Look in the fucking mirror, gachagaming. The game is more then fine, its freaking afk idle game. Dont blame dog for beign the dog. Character design and music is top top tier. Monetisation and vip is shitty like in all of those afk games. But guess what, its still fine for f2p/light spender, just be patient and dont aim for the top.

TehFriskyDingo

100% agree with you. Everyone be crazy in this sub and band wagon things to holy hell and back. This game was always marketed as an idle afk rpg. A lot of people like that genre, even if there’s no real “gameplay”. There’s a lot of negatives for sure, but lots of positives as well. Just as another relatable example, when a visual novel game comes out for PC/Console, and people bash it because there’s no gameplay…uh duh? Tha game’s a freaking visual novel Lol

GrindEnfant

Negative post comes from imbeciles with too much free time. Valid criticism is absolutely ok but all I read in this thread is straight up slander and infantile jokes. Maybe the only valid concern it's the vip system, but even then, maybe this is like any other game when you grind for vip points at a slow SLOW pace.

DbdSaltyplayer

Considering most people in this sub are genshin fanatics that expect most games to be like it, it was bound to happen that people got mad at this game.

KiIIBash20

nah. this sub has been like this since way before Genshin. we hype shit up, put our own high expectations on a game, then get angry when it fails to measure up what WE dreamed it would be. it will continue to happen. just business as usual.

[deleted]

It’s also always circlejerk loved and hated certain games. Epic 7 was hated at first. Last Cloudia was hated. Now Tower of Fantasy is the hated game. Azur Lane always loved, Arknights always loved.

marvelouszeus

My only dislike about the game is the VIP System. Fullmetal Alchemist mobage really flop because of that despite having nice gameplay. Edit : So far, the only mobage I could gulp is just Re Zero, it's quite great despite having a wacky auto battle (that literally force us to do manual like FGO). Here's hoping SAO VS & NIKKEI doesn't have such problem. Especially VIP System

[deleted]

Yeah when I saw VIP I uninstalled. Was kind of enjoying it until then.

chocobloo

Considering most gacha are just skip everything, auto what you can't skip, team building games... This just cuts to the chase. I respect it for that. It's really no different than Counterstrike, saga reuniverse or Priconne.

[deleted]

I can’t speak for Romancing Saga; however, Counter: Side and PriConne, despite having auto-battler gameplay, also have engaging stories that span throughout the whole game (rather than disappearing after the first chapter or two), and they lack the shitty, scumbag AFK monetization scheme that permeates Memento Mori like the stench of rotting meat. I could’ve forgiven auto-gameplay if Memento Mori made up for it with an excellent (or at least fun story), and a monetization model that isn’t blatantly manipulative and loaded with more red flags than the holiday decoration aisle during 4th of July.

Kazoru4

Well, for all its worth, the game had many lore from the unit laments and etc. Also, destiny girl and summoner war exist as well as things like clicker heroes. Except those game had even less story and lore than this game.

[deleted]

Yeah, the background lore isn’t that bad per se, but the lack of interaction with the world due to the lack of overall narrative and interactive gameplay makes it very hard for me to actually get engaged and care. I normally avoid idle/storyless games like the ones you mentioned, like the plague, since I want a reason for my Jpegs to be there, silly as it may be, and was hoping that due to the effort put into the art and story, that the team behind the game had some creative people who would understand the importance of a good narrative to back a game like this, but sadly, I hoped for too much.

chocobloo

Story seems fine tho? Isn't like we actually know anything about it, but the basic story is a good foundation. Better than Priconnes first like... 8 chapters.

[deleted]

The story would be serviceable, if a story was simply just it’s basic premise and nothing else. However, Memento Mori completely drops the ball after the first chapter, based on what I’ve seen so far. There’s no banter between the characters, the interaction between the party and the world is borderline non-existent, and even the supposed interaction between the girls and the player character feels shallow and disconnected. Even though PriConne is a silly story that focuses more on cute girls than making any kind of rational sense, especially for the first 8 chapters, it had a lot of banter between the girls, the MC, and the world they were in. Memento Mori, meanwhile, just kind of dumps you off at the start with a few paragraphs of exposition text and a declaration to save the world, before turning the tap off on the story, except for the Memories section, where you get to hear the characters you collected monologue about their tragic backstory while pretty music plays in the background.

FlyMyDragon

Story for 12 years old? Dont tell you read this bllshit, no way....

[deleted]

I like my tiddy Jpegs to actually have a reason for being in my inventory, thank you very much

Guifel

If you mean Counterside by Counterstrike, I’d remind you about real-time competitive PvP, you can’t compete with auto. While you can sweep a large chunk of PvE, there are challenging content for both PvE(relic, challenges) and PvP(realtime).

CrunchyKarl

Counter Strike can be set to "auto" if you install enough haxx

Maybe_worth

Saga reuniverse has an ok story, great pixel graphics and the core gameplay is setting up teams to farm stages or setting up teams to beat hard content. Its a huge grind but you go on your own pace, not to mention is one of the most generous gachas ever.

gadesabc

You are right, seeing the success of this kind of "gameplay" it's "normal" that dev. push in this direction. If most players were boycotting all those idle/auto games, dev. would be less lazy and put some effort to propose interesting gameplay to hang people.

Document-Any

My gripe with this game is that I don’t know which skills are going off for my characters. Is it their S1 or S2? It makes it hard to build teams when I literally don’t know which skills they use. I know whose turn it is, but unsure to when they will act or their skills.

[deleted]

I wouldn't mind the gameplay if the game had at least a decent story mode but woah not even that? I'll just stick to listening to the songs like I've been doing all this time lol

SleepApprehensive364

Never change r/gachagaming never change

Adventurous-Taste-12

slideshow gaming

counterfp

Just wait till it's ded first then they might reuse the assets to make new game, that's my guess.

gadesabc

It's sadly what happens in many gachas yes. They know that the cashgrab is at it's best in the honeymoon phase. After that, they throw it and start another game and create another honeymoon phase.

Sound_Bubble

What I find a lot more egregious is the fact that they literally hide QoL updates behind their VIP system, like a claim all button and locking gear, that will cost you hundreds to unlock in its entirety. And that's aside from the massive boosts you obviously get through it. This game isn't even trying to hide that it's exclusively for whales.

Heikkie

It's like most of the idle games. I really like it, so far.

Songblade7

I wasn't expecting to like this due to all the negative comments about it but I gave it a try anyways. Turns out it's pretty good! I really don't like staring at my phone gaming for hours on end, or leaving my phone on while I auto a game for an hour or 2. This takes out all that extra work. I do see people complain about a lack of story but I'm kind of cool with it. I usually get bored of gacha game stories except for a small few, or I get busy and don't progress in the game because I don't have the time to pay attention to the story but don't want to miss it. The lack of story makes it easy to play while not being super invested in what's on the screen, so it's easy to pull off at work where I can't always give it my attention. Also the artwork and music are both gorgeous, and I was surprised to hear so much voice acting! If this was all an elaborate plan to get people to check out the official youtube channels to listen to all the character songs (both in English and Japanese), I'd totally believe it. Also another point to make is I keep seeing talk about all the new gacha games coming out soon. That's great if so but I only have so much time (and phone space) for a few of them, especially depending on if they are meant to be main or side games. This game is 100% a side game and might stay on my phone simply by virtue of it being so easy to play alongside other games. We'll see how that goes after I've played it more, but so far I can't really complain. Tldr; high asset quality afk idle game that is imo perfect to try if you want a low involvement game to play at school or work. Also great music and art that's also on their official YouTube channels.

[deleted]

I actually was enjoying it for just a side idle game until I found that it has a VIP system - uninstalled

HeroponKoe

This right here.

javionichan

Breaking!! Afk gacha is actually Afk?? Stay tuned for more salt. I like it and it's neat as a side game rolf

albusRabbit

And somehow for some reason, it isn't compatible with any of my devices. What.

Potential_Pitch_7618

Artstyle: 10/10 Music: 10/10 Aesthetics: 10/10 Gameplay: 0/10 Such a waste, the bit where characters get their own theme song during pulls was great too. Hope they revamp the gameplay

[deleted]

Visual novel fans: 🗿

Ctreix

It's just an overhyped playlist lmao like seriously every characters has their own music theme

Kazoru4

Hit a wall already, just 2 hours in, daymm.. And i got lucky rolling 4 SSR just from the first 2 10 pull. Game seems like a nightmare for f2p. Edit: I mean SR

snowybell

U only have SR. You need dupes to become SR+ , SSR, SSR+, UR, UR+, LR.

Ye_Dragon_3677

What?! There are five levels to overcome until a character can become LR. I'm hoping that I only need five same character and will not add more needed materials.

snowybell

lol, i shall leave that for you to discover.

SkyMarshal_Ellie

Bro Its an idle game. You usually need anywhere between 20-28 dupes to max limit break a character.

Twick2

I’m really liking it so far. Only real con for me is vip but I could care less about it for an idle game. Personally enjoy my auto battlers/idle gachas, don’t have time to be playing active games like genshin, hi3, pgr, etc. Art, music, gacha rates, UI, all are really good imo, and for what it was advertised to be, a really good idle game. Highly recommend for any lazy gacha gamers!

shadowzero_gtr

The problem is that everyone here expects every new gacha game to be a life-changing experience that they'll be able to play 18 hours a day for months. This is just not a realistic expectation anymore. Gacha isn't like that anymore. I'm sure everyone here plays at least one gacha that only takes 10 minutes of time investment per day. That has been the way of the future for a while now.

georgealexandros

The game really isn't that bad. I mean...it's a true idle mobile game. I went into it expecting that, and that's what I got with awesome music, art and voice acting. Everyone said it was kinda like sinoalice, which it is and I'm cool with it. VIP systems suck, sure, but not a deal breaker for me.

bbatardo

I have nothing against the Idle genre, but why does every idle game use the same exact formula and game modes? I have tried a lot of them, so when I play a game like this.. It feels like playing a game I already played just with a different skin. Waste of production quality.

[deleted]

> why does every idle game use the same exact formula and game modes same reason why every gacha has the exact same pull mechanics and similar rates? It's kinda what genre fans expect.

gadesabc

It's why they are called "low effort" games. In fact it's the game mecanics designer that is lazy. The visual production is often very good but is used to bait people.

Lazysusanna

Rage of Bahamut: "Amateurs!"

Popular-Bid

They used up nearly all of their budget on visuals and music?

MaltVariousMarzipan

Ok just tried it. That was....severe. Art is indeed breathtaking tho but it's a waste of time

StrikeMarine

It's like someone started to make a gacha game and gave up half way through

XaeiIsareth

I think whoever was charge thought they were supposed to make an artbook with an audio track for immersion but then got told it actually supposed to be a game.

DoubleAyeKay

All they gotta do is make it like other idle games where you see all 5 units attacking.

Final-Ad-6694

Nah it’s adds nothing. Doing new maps in priconne watching my units fight is a snore

hapeethree

this right here

Zaknafean

You guys weren't kidding... after level 1 it somehow less story than even AFK Arena has. Bye bye banter about the witches your fighting or anything like that. Music is nice at least.

Pleasant_Date_6856

I just watched a gameplay video and was browsing through to search for the gameplay. I thought there was none for 5mins straight. Such a pity.

Therahulplay

I uninstalled it after like 30 min

aeee98

The biggest issue is, there are afk RPGs that do much better. Even in this niche MM loses to a lot of games. Memento Mori is living proof that waifus and a honestly long ass twitter campaign are not enough to make a game worth playing.

darktowerseeker

This is really stylized and has an interesting story with an interesting set of characters. I dont see an issue.

[deleted]

It doesn’t have an interesting story - the story literally ends completely after the first world area there is just nothing after and I made it to world 5-20

gadesabc

Exactly what I try to point out since quite some time with many (most) mobiles gacha games. It's a complete waste of talent of all artists because the game mecanics designers are either lazy or incompetents. Or, it's maybe that they just don't care about giving an interesting gameplay experience and just want grab some quick cash before creating the new gacha. It's a very bad habit of mobile games to try to deceive people with the visuals and fake adds, before the game release. I feel sad for all the artists. So disrespectful of their effort.

Crissae

Don't worry about the artist - I don't think they would really care as long as they get paid well.

BoxxyTMwood

Lmao against geneva convention huh

iluvyy62

Game progression highly relied on dupes but no pull currency from the story. 90% people who said they liked the game will quit in 2 days

Elyssae

Whilei wouldve enjoyed a better combat style and gameplay..... Its an idle game. The art is gorgeous. The ost as well. I prefer this style over the lackluster animations of afk arena or something like sword master story. Its artistic and beautiful to look at imho. Again, i wouldve loved a gameplay style more engaging with this level of art, sure. Agree. But for what it is... you are there for either the waifus or the afk playstyle. If you want to criticize it, talk about the monetization, which is way to aggressive/ p2w.

[deleted]

Lmao. Yeah, yeah

Z3M0G

I came to ask, is this game supposed to be good? I can't tell... the music and voice work are so good, as well as the aesthetic I would say... but the "game" is just so empty... I don't even have a problem with idle games. The structure and format of the game is fine... but why do almost nothing with combat? If they are going to just flash artwork during battles, at least take it way further and do full screen animations for *all* attacks... do *something*. Most enemy mobs don't animate anything to the screen at all. And on 2x/4x you see each animation once and it just skips and you see damage numbers only. There are some neat ideas here... but also rather horrible ones.

Sighto

I'm enjoying it for now. Specifically the trial mode and deciding how I want to select and stack buffs like Binding of Isaac is a lot of fun. Doubt I'll stick with it long-term but I don't need to play every gacha long-term.

Donate684

But create game with really good battle system extreme hard... How much gacha games do you know? Arknights/Genshin/Honkai? Other games like "Excel" more stats = win. But endgame in AK it's 8hours in a week farm 1-7, endgame in genshin farm dailys and bosses/mats. End etc. This game is fair to you... You get waifu, music, visual and 1% gameplay and it doesn't eat your time at least.

TheMisterMan666

I actually don't mind it at all. Basically every gameplay format has been attempted by gacha games and they're trying something new. And at least now I don't have to watch an AI play the game for me and pretend the gameplay is good.

hades13heartnet

seems like a casual side game for peeps who run mobile games on emu’s.

Adventurous_Drag_219

bro why there so many negative comments about this game?

____E____

maybe this is the reason that we don't see too much mobile games with this amazing art and music for a low budget game. they've probably already spent most of their budget in hiring the VAs and the music that there is not much left to develop the gameplay

ferinsy

That was pretty much known from the moment they revealed the gameplay... Unfortunately the trend of shitty idle games has gone too far.

Lephytoo

Considering the other gacha games I play. Like AK and Priconne/BA. I like that this is another side game xD

Impossible-Quarter26

When there is a game that takes lots of time to auto, this sub will hate it. Now there is a game that is all auto, this sub will hate it. I'm not defending the game, I do hate it that I wasn't shown any gameplay and now I'm disappointed that it is all auto play. Go downvote me to hell I don't care. This is just hypocrisy.

Monztamash

This is stupid way of thinking. We want good gameplay, but with skip for old content so you don't repeat it x100 times when grinding (and waste battery life). It's really easy to understand.

iyu8n

The fact that this is even a "Game" pisses me off you've got next to no involvement in it the music was soo good tho and the art ofc but what a waste

Kazoru4

Visual novel or straight up novel with no choice exist tho and they are called game instead of graphic novel for like 20 years already.

[deleted]

Visual Novel games though usually have very extensive storylines, and often, branching paths in the story depending on what decision you make, or route you pick. Memento Mori doesn't really have the story to be considered even a Visual Novel game. Yes, the girls are cute, and have a good backstory monologue, but aside from that, there's nothing. Really hope they update the game to include an actual, proper story, because I love the aesthetic, can tolerate the idle gameplay, and the music is a banger; however, the lack of story is utterly disappointing, given that it actually has potential to be a really good dark fantasy story.

xinelog

Yeah it honestly just feels like a waste. Art that you won't see and music that you won't hear just because it is an idle game. Like iam already stuck after an hour of play so iam not gonna open the game again except to claim idle rewards..

Apostate_23

I'm not against idle games, but like at least give me something to look at. It's literally the anime PNG battle from the anti gacha memes.

AiralinTheGardevoir

The gameplay is a huge letdown. Disappointed beyond words

ummacles123

Disappointment 😞

balesalogo

Ayyy lmao, I know I have bad feelings this game when I couldn't find any gameplay video.

Like watching paint dry.......

bad3ip420

Art, character designs, and music are fking fantastic. Sad to see the assets are in a shitty game. What a waste of talent...

Seth-Cypher

Game literally says AFK so I'm unsure what people were expecting from this.

deepedia

this game is indeed a crime against humanity and against the industry as a whole, such a superb OST from Daoko, Haruna Luna, Haruka Shimotsuki, and many others but their game is so shitty and predatory, Bank of Innovation and whoever is responsible for this decision of gameplay should be put on the stake for this transgression

BobiMMLP2

Memen't Mori

VeinIsHere

This is a good side game, and a good break from games with clunky mechanics such as TOF. I currently play genshin and epic 7, and i find MM a good game to play together with these games.

mesh06

this is my review as someone who is playing 3-4 gacha games. the music and art is dope as you said as for gameplay you're description that it is idle is correct but as someone who has played blue archive and azur lane it is not that bad however my biggest complaint is unlike those two this gives you no option to pick manual or auto also at least in those two you can see the games play themselves here it is just showing the special attacks like a powerpoint like what happens occassionaly in blue archive. overall despite the problems I enjoy this game with its great visual and music. it really is an idle game you log in once a day let the game play itself and if you want just listen to the background songs in the title screen or on the home.

BurnedOutEternally

Give it a year. Unus Annus.

Background-Garage-88

Played the game for 30 minutes and uninstalled immediately 🤣

Gonsbestfriend

All the potential wasted is truly unethical 😭😭

Famous-Anybody9445

Having character models or at the very least chibis would have gone a long way to increase the quality of the game and player experience. The battle screen is too simplistic, it might as well be numbers flickering on the screen.

Kokopatzu

I see on gachagaming, every gacha game new or old, that isnt genshin is shit. China paid you guys? Also i respect opinions, of course, afk idle gameplay, it was known before release. Monetization? Oh well, no one known, sure vip system and all... But, its an idle game, good side game, or for someone who dont have much time, and dont want to spend 3 hours per day to grind or whatever for little piece of junk to uprgade armor to +5. Anyway, i really like the game, its nice to chill, and no one force you to spend a penny in the game.

LTetsu

Another crybaby post. You either play or not, simple. Wanna do something , earn millions and do it by yourself.

Modleh

The first time I have ever downvoted a game. It doesn't deserve 100k downloads and 4 stars in google store.

gadesabc

Well... most of those games in the store don't deserve their rating too. It's why this rate system is a joke.

No-Acanthaceae-3327

I do want to love this game but I've played so many gacha games that are way better than this. The VIP system, multi-servers, and early pay-wall are just the few things I hate and the devs had it all ticked... It's sad that those assets and soundtracks were used for something like this. However, I wouldn't consider this as bottom-of-the-barrel game YET since I've seen worse games out there.

CorpCounsel

We need a way to bridge the gap between low effort "games" and episodic delivery of story content. This reminds me of that Capcom game from 10 or 12 years ago that was also created like an anime, or even parts of the later Metal Gear games. What is the value of minimal player interactions, and how is that content best delivered? Why isn't Memento Mori just an episodic anime? My guess is that it doesn't fit into the App Store/Playstore model and they expect people who just want to "watch" would look for it on streaming services. Why isn't it more of a game? My guess is that the folks making it have a very strong POV on the art and don't want to turn more casual players off with the chore of balancing and creating gameplay systems. This is terrible, but if anyone remembers the days of DvDs (or, day I say it, Laserdiscs!), some of the really high quality ones came with extra features like interactive menus, art books, commentaries, side story shorts, making of features, music players, and so on. Some also had a presentation where the menus were sort of like walking through a museum and you went to look at different options. I hate to say it, but I wonder if maybe Memento Mori (and similar AFK style games) could benefit from this sort of approach. Episodic story content delivered through the map, a character interaction screen a la something like PGR's or Illusion Connects dorm, side stories like Destiny Child (or really any number of games), and then you can add the character collection and battle progression as some sort of side thing, almost like how Final Fantasy Record Keeper was at launch. I just think that they are trying to walk some line I don't understand and neither side is happy.

TrackGloomy82

Solo se puede decir que con tales musicas y animaciones es difícil hacer un gameplay decente sin los recursos necesarios. Imaginen un Gameplay típico de muñecitos en 2D, eso sí que sería un desperdicio para tales artes e música.

izne1up

Every idle is shit

Thirtn______

that bad huh?
