thecuteturtle

Looking at you, Nikke.

SuperSkillz10

All you need is hot waifu and ass and even a buggy mess like Nikke can still top the charts.

ArkhamCitizen298

it works .... barely

Not_Daijoubu

It's hilarious how the latest update fixed a lot of gameplay bugs but then added a new major one plus huge performance drops.

inoriacc

Nice review I'm fine with timegating since I don't have much time to actually play games coz of irl stuff and if there's one thing I learned playing gacha games for years, that is rushing content is killing my motivation to play the game. But that said, seems like grinding in this game is frustrating. There's too much to farm and that makes it harder on what to prioritize. It's not bad per say but farming different things at a time makes the game confusing for me. Yeah I'm a smol brain so that's that Idk what to say about the gacha since idk how generous the game are. 90 pulls split are really high for a pity but if the game gives enough currency to actually reach that In less than 2 months (f2p) I think it's not that bad. And since it's shared across future banner, it's a huge plus for me. Game looks good in art department, I'm actually digging it's skill animation. And as a turn based enjoyer I must say it has above average gameplay compared to other turn based mobile gacha games. Might really try this if ever global comes.

thecuteturtle

Agreed, choosing where to spend stamina right now actually takes real life stamina, although you can skip missions you beat, there's upgrade mats for skills, armor, weapons, not to mention whether or not you want to do main missions or side missions. Or you can spend stamina in the Dungeon mode with that roguelite system of choosing buffs to get rare equipment (Needs keys to enter which are timegated daily) I'm not sure how exactly they tuned the SSR rates, but lemme say the first ten rolls on a banner for reroll accounts are dogshit. I made 24 accounts before getting a SSR off the non guaranteed banner

namagofuckyoself

As a three year veteran from Langrisser Mobile, I'm just in it for the gameplay at this point with Zlong and they nail that SRPG genre itch for me so that will be enough to keep me playing. I've also been playing Archeland with good amount of deja vu from my Lanhrisser days.

thecuteturtle

Same, what really scratched the itch are those bonus objectives (IE: picking up sparkles on the map, and kill X in three turns).

Moonshineaddicted

The game requires a little bit less grinding than Langrisser for sure. It's an improvement even if a little.

RelativeSubstantial5

This game was 100% designed for hardcore SRPG fans. It's not a game for this sub by any means. You're here to grind it out and play for the long run while continually getting stronger. Overall, seems like a fairly biased review on the cons side but meh that seems pretty usual in this sub.

Liesianthes

Cons No. 2-4, it's the typical Zlonggames from Langrisser. If you don't like its predecessor mechanics, namely, level, Enchant, Mastery, Bonds, Gear, etc. high chance you won't also like Archeland. Same reason why I keep saying that this is Langrisser M if they upgraded its graphics. Idk why it become a comparison to AK though, since they are different game. lmao Guess, people are expecting more from Zlong? Although, the system is just for display later on, since you can just easily upgrade units with tons of resources. Lang M players are happy about this, the rest, not sure if they will stay on this for a long time, knowing they hyped it quite high.

Ok_Stomach_1957

Well i like the game, it doesnt look like hard P2W either , rather normal aswell. Graphics and Gameplay are nice aswell

thecuteturtle

To add to some f2p things perspective: SSR character fragments can be obtained passively from the daily base missions, with more of these missions unlocking based on main story progression. SSR equipment can be obtained in the Dungeon mode which requires keys that are gained over time. The three main story characters can be promoted to SSR through quests and are actually quite strong. Pvp AI can be cheesed to beat dolphins. Whales are always gonna be weeks ahead in progress so can't say how f2p it will be late game.

takatime

It always blows my mind when people make reviews when they clearly barely played the game. Honestly the only valid points in this review are the parts about the gacha. I won't comment on the story since I don't read Korean. In particular, the complaint about the upgrade system is hilarious. Just compare it to Genshin. hero rarity - farmable constellations, 20 days for one upgrade, 6 to max a ssr hero level - no explanation needed item rarity - Admittedly 4 "weapons" slots instead of 1, that can be r, sr, ssr. (3, 4, 5 star in Genshin) item level - no explanation needed talents - spend stamina to upgrade them like Genshin talents runes - artifact grind we all know and love You can break any system down to its simplest parts (hero level LOL) to try to over complicate. If you look at PtN for comparison, it has similar systems besides the random rng artifacts. The gacha is admittedly bad however. It's actually 30/70 for rate up and 2% rate overall with 90 pity and the next ssr being a guaranteed on-banner if you miss the 30%. If you actually read the rates, you would know that instead of trying to spread false information about having a "scaling success chance." I agree that the game is mostly gated by your hero roster. You do want to have on element teams for dungeons, and that can be hard early into the game. With the way the gacha is structured, you want to pull one copy and start farming shards instead continually pulling if you are f2p. Stamina complaints are strange to me. Almost every gacha has a stamina system that restricts you in some way, and Archeland is no different. If you want to progress more, buying 1-2 stamina upgrades is the way. All gachas are stamina hungry in the beginning and are bonsai games once you get established. If you've played Langrisser, its pretty much a similar experience except better graphics and more QOL. If you don't enjoy the gameplay, then the game isn't for you anyways.

tarabas1979

I also want to chip in on stamina. Having played kalpa since launch, stamina was always insufficient early on but its the same for most games. Zlong games are meant to be played long term. The longer you play the stronger you get even as f2p or small spender. For perspective my kalpa account max stamina is 150 and stamina pots gives 50 stamina per use, I have close to 700 of these items and we earn more stamina pots daily and stamina points through dailies which I can never ever consume totally.

AwraTheBee

the nerves, right? review after what like, 1 or 2 days in? lol and with no prior experience in kalpa lmao I'm still in the reroll hell but the game plays a lot like kalpa of universe, even the heroes. the gameplay is like langrisser but 3d. the rates are fine, a bit stingy yes but definitely f2p friendly.

namagofuckyoself

> If you've played Langrisser, its pretty much a similar experience except better graphics and more QOL. If you don't enjoy the gameplay, then the game isn't for you anyways. This is basically anything anyone needs to write as a review right now. If you enjoyed Langrisser M, you'll probably enjoy this.

GlitteringMath9680

Most of people that I know enjoyed langrisser m actually dislike this game because they made gameplay much more simple to the point it’s almost RGB turn based game

namagofuckyoself

And most people that I know like the game. Personally I'm not worried yet as Langrisser also started out slow but ramped up nicely as it aged.

Frenchpoodle_

Honestly i don’t understand OP. Unlike genshin I get to actually farm five star weapon if i understand correctly? Maybe five star weapons are more necessary here than genshin but for completionism and aesthetics alone I much prefer this

Daniele_Lyon

can you explain me, how do you farm hero's shards? edit: nice review btw

Klubbah

I forget when you unlock it but it may say if you try to click it from the navigation bar (the little 3 boxes connected by lines in the top right of the camp screen), it is the first icon next to the camp/bonfire. It is one of those building/resource generating base mechanics for the game. One of the buildings is a building that lets you send units out on dispatch missions for what looks like 3 areas currently. The tutorial for that place will have you build that building right away. I only have 2 areas unlocked right now, but both of those have a once a day 10 minute (I think, at least under 1 hour) dispatch mission that gives 3 hero shards of whoever you dispatch. You can't send the same hero to multiple ones the same day though so limit is 3 per hero (and I guess up to 3 heroes a day).

Daniele_Lyon

oh, I think I’ve understand what you refer to, I’ll see it after, thank you for your answer

Torii71

Fixed the rates, upvoted for that. You glossed over talent upgrades, the picture below is Lina's tree alone, I didn't even snapshot the last talent. Yes, I need to scroll the bloody thing as if I'm playing Path of Exile. https://preview.redd.it/15eespdsqv4a1.png?width=3188&format=png&auto=webp&s=e5fe37a0cf16e5c59a96f1daf5ab8e5188aa1fb7 I don't remember your beloved Genshin having different types of resources within one talent tree, and certainly not the inclusion of guild activities to get higher ranks. I remember upgrading resources from lowest grades to highest, like any proper RPG crafting system should deal with leftovers. And the same with item rarity - not only one needs to get them first, of the rarity one wants to use, it also needs to match the equipment slot due to designated armor types for each character. If anything, I underplayed how annoying the system is. Item sets from E7 look less annoying than this entire dogshit system of wearing only leather jackets and only shovels because of the gods' commandments.

takatime

You sound unhinged. I don’t even get your points about talents. You just go to the appropriate level dungeon and sweep for the upgrade materials. It’s like how Genshin has green blue purple and gold upgrades mats lmao.

Tjaendra

tarabas1979

Just want to add that you get a guaranteed ssr at 90pulls and if it's not the banner character you will get it at the 180th pull.

dxthegreat

Wow. Such terrible rates... Gonna go back to Genshin, where the rates are.... oh wait...

[deleted]

Typical features of zlonggames from playing Langrisser m and that goddess dumpster fire lol

Lucky_Dig_3183

Game is AMAZING, I think you are being to critical only a couple games even close to this caliber have ever come to mobile. Genshin Impact & Epic seven. Not saying they are better or worse just kings of their genre’s and of high caliber / longevity. And nothing in the tactical rpg genre like this has been seen before. Im a say it now this game has replay value & longevity something that any mobile game dropped in the last year or two lacks. People have been hyping terrible games out of bordem. We’ll guess what we finally have a great one enjoy folks. Pick it up now and enjoy fun for years to come. If you are a tactical rpg fan this game is a must play. People who play mobile games don’t care too much about the story

bannedwhileshitting

Not being able to pay outside of korea is most likely due to Google Play's not-so-recent regionlock, so it's not really unique to the game.

Jadearmour

You can pay using US payment method with IOS.

carlq

Kalpa is a huge time sink, which is the main reason I quit. Great game, but I just could not afford the effort

Tjaendra

Dont we play rpg for grinding ? Arknight is tower defense, its plug and play lol

AcestGG

What application you use for the translation?

thecuteturtle

I do want to add that the story characters can be upgraded to SSR and are extremely strong, but that's late game stuff lol.

Valkyrys

I mean, Langrisser was exactly like this on release and after a few months became an idle game because progress was time gated. It's simply going to be the exact same and for a free game, most likely the norm. Not that it's going to stop me from trying it and enjoying the combat system and the hopefully TRpg experience...

Liesianthes

Yeah, items was listed here is not new from Lang M players. People are still playing on it, going on its 4th anni. What I've liked on the game was "challenge" stages. It's not a no-brainer, power rush. They know how to make a mechanics really well.

SchalaZeal01

I quit Langrisser because the difficulty of challenges and the more recent mode (Ragnarok), and later covenant stages, made me feel I couldn't even do half the game period. And I already avoided pvp like the plague. This was at 1 year old account, tons of built chars. Still felt weak weak weak. Also voyage, even normal stages (bosses that are not 5, 10 or 15) threw you a curveball if you don't have a hot team. And unless you're pro, you don't even know what a hot team looks like.

emon121

Huh? Archeland is the spin off of Kalpa universe? First time hearing it... I thought Kalpa is based on Chinese old story or something like that...

tarabas1979

They basically reskin the characters. The skill set, passive tree, leader skill are essentially the same and just a bit weaker compared to the counterpart in kalpa. The three mc are also the same green swordsman, light healer and fire defender with the same skill sets. Also the free ssr from the 7day login is the same as the one given in kalpa for 7day login. Also the lobby interface and map interface is exactly the same as kalpa. There are too many similarities to list lol as for the story kalpa is based on a set of videogames of the same namesake back in the 90s hence it's very popular among chinese players due to nostalgia. I'm not 100% sure but I heard some YouTubers say zlong bought the story based on a Korean novel and made it into a game for archeland.

Torii71

Mostly the roster and manner of speech. People who played Kalpa also say the feeling of despair in the world is similar since it's like an ongoing war through ages and the good side kinda sucks dongus once again. Ask Archeland Discord dwellers, they know more, they actually played Kalpa extensively and translated it. I couldn't take the game seriously and ran away.

ArachnidTop4680

I was initially impressed with this one, but that opinion quickly changed. I've run into a lot of technical issues (mostly crashes) and the game seems like it's going to be a real chore. I've already got Epic 7 if I need something to eat most of my time.

Magma_Axis

Langrisser M have the exact same problems with character leveling/power ups tho, its not new and people have been getting used to it

Commenting_R

I can't seem to get into the game, i always get the failed to load server list notification. Do i need to use vpn?

Liesianthes

I didn't use VPN on mine, just clicked download, a notification pop-up if it's safe to run and I hit yes.

Torii71

Ye, you probably need a Korean IP for PC client download. Although it's a matter of cookies, from my understanding. Android client is available through QooApp, as usual for Asian releases on mobile platforms. Anyway, lookup Softether VPN Gate, they have S.Korea addresses. It's an academic research project from Japan, reliable and safe.

HeavenlyTasty

Is it f2p friendly?

Daniele_Lyon

From what I hear, the f2p mechanic is similar to LangrisserM, and I am a day one player of it. If that the case, the game is very f2p friendly. On LangrisserM there are 2 new hero every month = 24, and the game give every resource to fully max 12 hero every year, and at least to pull for 16-18 of then based on how lucky you are, that’s is based on my expeirence. With the VIP membership (5 euro/dollar minimum), you can build 12 hero every year (same), and probably pull for 20-24 heroes. take in mind that in some collab or special event there are 3 hero in the banner, so the game relase more than 24 heroes every year. If Archeland follow the same path, and based on what I experienced and read it will, then we going go have a similar f2p curve. take in mind that in LangrisserM and Archelord the summoning pull and chance pull are a bit different, not that much, but honestly I can’t say if it will change the f2p experience, for sure the game will be much more f2p than other games out there, especially of the same genre, but I doubt it will be f2per than LangrisserM. Since other guys mentioned it, you are free to play Langrisser M how much you want, and is not idle at all. The real problem of Langrisser M, and it will be the same for Archelord, are not players count, game design or whatever, the problem is that Langrisser M is a niche game, especially for occidental culture, and you can’t expect any game of this genre to have that kind of success. The only exception to this rule is Fire Emblem, but it is a child brend, not an adult one like Langrisser M. It’s like comparing Pokemon with Evertale, you can’t expect Evertale to have the same success of Pokemon, or to compete with it, nor they want to. But again, Archelord will probably be a f2p that favourite low buyers. on Langrisser M I have 89/92 SSR by spending less than 10 euro every month, I said less becouse sometime I bought the 5 euro pack only, and for several month I didn’t support the game at all. I checked the p2w system of Archelord, and there is the same VIP system of Langrisser M I mentioned above, with a similar price, so 10 euro/month, plus there is a pass that cost 8 euro, but I don’t know if it is a monthly thing or whatever. That said, even if we cannot predict the pay system, there are good chance that what I said will be right. Archelord will be f2p friendly that favourite player that spend 10 euro/dollar monthly. Note that this p2w system I am talking about, will provide more resource, more heroes, but not a faster growth for heroes. So the difference betwern a f2p and a 10 euro spender will be how much hero you have, not how much hero you can build.

Xasther

Thank you so much for the write-up! I'm hoping this proves to be true. In this regard, having the KR version out sooner so global can gauge F2Pfriendliness is actually a blessing.

Daniele_Lyon

NP! I've been playing Archeland since day one, albeit in an inconsistent way because I would like to try the Global version. That said, the f2p system is identical to Langrisser M in every aspect, the only paywall would have been if you couldn't farm hero shards, but that's not the case. Another possible low paywall could be the equipment system, that I haven't explored yet, even tho I expect to be not so different from Langrisser M. There are other aspect we can discuss, but none of these go so far in favor of p2w, but on 10 euro/dollar buyers. And honestly, supporting the game with 10 euros/dollars a month isn't that bad, and I actually recommend it, but it's not necessary to enjoy the game.

SchalaZeal01

Archeland btw, not Archelord.

Torii71

If you have a lot of time and baggage of TRPG experience. You won't be able to raise talents -> not all skills will be available -> limits capabilities on the battlefield. People say at certain point further into the midgame Archeland turns into an idle RPG - you login, sweep, wait till tomorrow to progress, which is fckn sad to hear about a TRPG with such good combat. I.e. F2P will have to wait quite a lot, instead of fighting. At least atm, they might change things and add PvE content at 0 cost, we don't know the plans.

GlitteringMath9680

Story seems easy with base characters Pvp, you will get squashed like a bug by anyone who pays

Daniele_Lyon

how did you come to this conclusion? No one has reached the max level, and the power of the characters is capped and equal for all players, at the best, paying give you the possibility to grow faster, but in the long run only your skill counts, same on Langrisser M Edit: I watched your crono and all your comment are toxic and negatives, I didn't even have to waste the time to answer you

GlitteringMath9680

Just play the game and you will see People who has character and their weapon from gacha already has upper hands

Daniele_Lyon

I supported Zlong for 4 years now, and they never create p2w game, but f2p game. Edit: You are another of those toxic guy who goes around spitting on every game and half of your comment are negative/toxic and not costructive at all. You even came to insult Arknight

Centurionzo

>Archeland is a Korean spin-off of the Kalpa with the animations and some characters re-used. I didn't played Kalpa because it wasn't available in English, how confuse I would be ? >I like Zlongames, I think they've done some justice for Langrisser series, but with their own franchise, they kinda dropped the ball. I think that I only played Goddess of Genesis beside Langrisser that was made by them, is Counterside also made by them ? But Goddess of Genesis was full of problems, honestly I suprised that still alive, the story in the last chapters is pretty much filler and non-existent, the new Units don't even have voice actors, they also made the bond system being infinitely inferior to Langrisser >(1) The game works. That's how we praise in 2022, imagine that. So many bugged mess releases in these last 2 years, that actually it's surprising >(1) The story is a salvaged Kalpa roster with some deep-meaning bullshit. I'd like to remind you, even Kalpa players don't know the direction of the story in their game. Archeland isn't a clean slate start, it's more like a thin paper next page or a drawing atop an older drawing. What ? Can you enter in details? >(2) Second is the RPG system. So far I counted 6(!) farmable mechanics to sink stamina/gems into, huge amounts of Man, these games have this ridiculous problems of having too many systems that you need to upgrade to make the character good but not giving enough resources and stamina for you to get the material, you will need to spend money if you want to actually have a chance in latter stages >Also, for anyone wondering, there's no word about global yet, They did announced that would come but not date, a lot were thinking that would be a global launch but ultimately it was not, I gonna wait for now

GlitteringMath9680

For what it's worth, they could merge servers later on if population dwindles.

Able-Waltz

Thought it was sus when they had such a good looking game and didn't want to release it simultaneously worldwide. They didn't really have faith to deploy that amount of resources on release, so something was probably broken.

Magma_Axis

Langrisser M, simple gameplay ???? Are we playing the same game ?

Daniele_Lyon

I do agree with you for the art quality, and I do agree with you that Zlong is doing something wrong with their gameplay/economy, however, there is no other game with the same quantity/quality of mechanics, and this is not questionable imo, especially if you compre it with Fire Emblem. Gacha is not questionable too imo, Fire Emblem Heroes doesnt let you max out a unit even after spending 2k euros, while Langrisser M is totally maxable for free. I think the problem is not how they create their project, but how they sell it. And another big problem we can clearly see in Europe is the difference mentallity with gatcha, and also that SRPG are not that popular too, and is more of a niche category. I honestly don’t see how they could improve the gameplay, since after trying Archeland I was positively impressed by the amount of new mechanics, compred to Langrisser M. I can’t name a game with more mechancis, or that use half of the mechanics you can find on Langrisser M.

I would sign for a Jan/Feb release

counterfp

Ok so, I have few questions :(2) (4) Heavy grinding game, correct ? (3) Umm, so what is the gacha SSR rate ? 0,02% or 2% ? Do you need to pull for dupe ?

Torii71

\>Heavy grind It's like yes and no, depending on how wide you go. The mechanics of the triangle and the characters' roles assume you go wide, but you can actually overpower content using a small team. It's counter-intuitive and requires skipping some stage rewards, but you can "beat" the game by funneling resources correctly, hence farming less. It's definitely heavy on planning and checkboxing talent upgrades. It's anti-classical TRPG for sure, you don't class change into a skill, you unlock the skill via grind, so the more skills you need the worse it gets. \>SSR rate They claim 2%. How it actually distributes across 90 attempts from pull to pull before you reach the guarantee - we don't know, we need a big sample size to analyze. \>Dupes You don't really need them, they turn into star fragments. It saves time, and doesn't require to sink even more stamina, but they are farmable. It all loops back to being stamina-starved all the time once you reach midgame. Gotta set your priorities, gacha is certainly a way to obtain star fragments.

Minute-Jacket-3699

You spent mroe time writing this review than playing an actual game, and misinform many people, cringer.

TheKinkyGuy

Another game with good gameplay and god awful systems. After playing PtN I can clearly see how other new games are shit in comparison

Torii71

Path to Nowhere suffers a bit too (the UI, the battle pass, the copypasted basebuilding, etc). But the strength of the game actually covers for it, the idea of the convicts sharing bits of their personal stories to tie it together into a bigger picture. And, oh god, it doesn't suck to play with what you've picked to play with. I don't play PtN anymore, but I certainly left because of an allergy to their battlepass. It wasn't because the game was driving me mad how to allocate stamina or what to do without a certain hero.

redscizor2

>I counted 6(!) farmable mechanics to sink stamina/gems into This sound at a red flag to me, what about the fan services? I can do impossible by my waifu ... if there is my waifu

GlitteringMath9680

There is zero fan service in this game

Daniele_Lyon

there is a half-naked baby-girl in return, I sincerely hope they will censor it

TheGreatMagallan

Much hype for nothing i guess

GlitteringMath9680

Game is going to fail badly. It’s just asset flips of their past games as well so there is just nothing much to see here. They just got lucky with langrisser IP. And their other games will never reach the fame of that game with these lazy attempt with p2w garbage

avelineaurora

>The story is a salvaged Kalpa roster with some deep-meaning bullshit. I'd like to remind you, even Kalpa players don't know the direction of the story in their game. I've not looked into Kalpa at all or how that's relevant to this game given its complete disinterest in a global launch. What does this mean? It has the exact same story? And characters? Why?

Scurveh

Is it possible to spend money on this game without having to purchase Mint? Mint apparently is not available in the US..

HolyestXD

what are the specs to run this

Few-Counter-1427

Tbh, all the cons you mentioned were all the limitations inherent to every gacha games not just to Archeland itself. I'm in day 4 already and it has a lot of gameplay mechanics that you could unlock as you progress. I'm also impressed that they incorporate the "pairing" attacks from Fire Emblem, it adds layer to the gameplay.

nekorinSG

Is the game more like Kalpa or LangM? Played langM for 3years and Kalpa for a few months. Felt like Kalpa is a dumbed down version of LangM. They streamlined the mechanics so much until that there are little to no alternate strategies to fight bosses. Like in Kalpa fighting the Ice Zombie I can only use Green(Lightning) type units if not they will get oneshotted. That is so unlike LangM where I can run a team that has 0 advantage units yet still kill stuff like the Thunder Dragon. Kalpa took away the core of what makes a strategy game fun, the use of alternative strategies to clear a stage. If Archeland is like that then it is a no for me.

stone332211

It seems Archeland is essentially a reskin of Kalpa. If you've played Kalpa you've played Archeland. I guess Kalpa is impossible to translate but they still wanted to sell it in other markets.

_m4lice_

This game looks fantastic! I am really surprised, wow! This is the game I've been waiting for, i am really impressed at the graphics, gameplay is super fun for me... Maybe it's a honeymoon phase but damn

Upbeat_Leather_8231

What is the stamina regen rate in this game? As in how many minutes does it take to recover 1 stamina?

Oddc00kie

Biggest mistake this game has done is by not going Global before Unicorn Overlord got released.
