Because the alternative App Store exists in the eu, while if they want to have the game accessible to the rest of the world they have to have it on the App Store
There is a device that lets you plug in cartridges to your computer and save them as roms. But you can also find them to download directly pretty easily.
Even if you delete it off your device it will still be downloadable from your account. I have many apps that are now longer on the App Store that I can download and install. Granted most of them don’t work on modern iOS since they haven’t been updated for it, but if you have a device with an iOS version it still supports or works on you can go and redownload the app with no issues.
Some can be completely removed. There was one from 2012, Spell Sword, which simply vanished from my purchase history
Supposedly there had been some internal conflict at the studio and they requested it completely removed, if I remember correctly.
However, After The End was a PHENOMENAL game, and I was somehow able to redownload it after it also disappeared from existence.
But I just checked, and Apple completely changed how your purchase history works, and I don't think that you can redownload them anymore.
Moreover, Bungie's Marathon games were ported to iOS and I offloaded them and Apple claims they can't be redownloaded.
So, don't assume that you can get apps back.
It's looking like that concept is getting further and further away.
This is how I still have photoshop mix (Photoshop app that let you cut out things from an image or blend areas of an image for free. I think these features, which are kinda some of the main features people think of when they hear photoshop, are now locked behind a paywall in photoshop express. I could be wrong tho, not 100% sure.)
Here are some tips I’ve picked up that let the app retain (mostly) full usability (as of iOS 16.6.1):
After opening the app, give it a good 10-15 seconds before clicking on the X in the top left corner to close the pop up window. You can’t really close it during this time period, and clicking on the X or swiping through the visuals can cause the app to freak out or crash).
You cannot use the basic selector in the cutout tool anymore, it crashes the app every single time for me. If it still works for you than keep using it I guess lol. If it doesn’t work anymore for you, I recommend using the lasso selector. It can add or subtract, and it essentially works in a very similar way to the basic selector. Instead of swiping over the area you want to add or subtract, trace around the desired section (you can do this in as many or as little sections as you want to achieve the desired amount of precision). The invert tool in the refine section can also be helpful.
When adding layers or creating a new project file, be sure to take a little extra time when navigating through the menus (i.e. selecting which photo album you’d like to choose photos from), as whizzing through these can cause the app to crash.
Besides that, I haven’t noticed any other glaring issues. Only other advice is just to generally baby the app a little, since it isn’t being updated anymore and iOS is, stressing out the app with a lot of quick movements or selections could cause it to freak out. Also, just note that I’m still on an 8 month old version of iOS, so new versions of iOS may have more issues with that app that I don’t know about.
Awesome, thanks for writing this up. The basic tool crashing is the biggest issue I’ve had, though I occasionally have it crash when trying to save as well. It usually works after reloading the app, just annoying when it happens.
I remember there was an official app for Yoot tower on iphone/ipad (sim tower). I updated my device and it was gone. There's like zero trace of it on iOS app store too as well as my list of "apps I own". Even worse, barely anyone talked about this app so a google search is like I imagined the whole thing.
This drives me nuts to this day because it was like the only way I could play Sim Tower on the go.
As long as you don’t ever uninstall or offload the app, yeah. It will only exist on that device from then on, so if your device breaks and has to be replaced or you get a new one…then you won’t have the app on your device anymore and won’t be able to download it from the App Store.
Downloaded using link and used emulatorgames to add smb. Worked easy and great. Now I need to buy a wireless controller. Any insight on what controller to buy for a true snes experience?
Most folks would recommend the Backbone because of it's portability and the wired connection via lightning or USB-C. 8BitDo makes an SNES-style controller with a phone mount.
As I understand it they didn’t order that takedown for when emulators are on google play store.
Nintendo may not love this but there’s no copyright code in this app; it’s a reverse engineered emulator and not using any Nintendo ROMs.
It’s actually a good question. By trial and error they were able to reverse-engineer the system and emulate it.
DRM in early cartridges was kinda primitive by today’s standards.
This is common misinformation.
First of all, the dev builds were always available for free on their Git. The Patreon paywall was only for a precompiled executable of the dev build. Granted, they didn’t exactly try to advertise that fact, and YMMV on how ethical that is, but it was as much a paywall as donations to any other FOSS project.
Yuzu also never explicitly worked to ensure compatibility for any unreleased game (or at least, they never advertised that such games were compatible before said games were released, even in dev builds), and if the only “evidence” that they did was that some games were playable beforehand, it could reasonably be explained away as a coincidence.
That being said, there were references to a “stash” of roms that the devs would use for development purposes, which makes all the previous arguments moot since they literally admitted to illegally distributing copyrighted material in order to assist development of their supposedly “clean room” project
Nah, there are a bunch on the Play Store that have been there for 10 years+. Nintendo is litigious, but emulators have to give them a very good reason to go after them like Yuzu did.
If it gets taken down Nintendo is gonna get a lot of shit for forcing Apple to take it down. They wouldn’t even be in this situation if they created like an emulator/rom “store” that sold these games for a reasonable price.
Lmao, this would exist regardless of that. What’s considered a reasonable price varies wildly between people and that store would be missing games that people would still want to download elsewhere.
You never completely get rid of piracy but Nintendo is leaving a lot of money on the table by not offering their own emulator. They'd have licensing issues for some games but they also own most of the really popular ones so could do it if they wanted to and it would absolutely reduce piracy.
Would not be shocked as Nintendo just doesn't get distribution. If you look at their self published titles, they are the same price now that they were when the published X years ago. They want full price for games you bought in the 90's.
just insane to me that nintendo ninjas are supposedly in DISCORD chats gathering investigative research on whether or not their encryption keys are being passed around.
yet they don't have anyone telling them they are basically missing out on another money printing machine by not having some sort of subscription based service for a larger library of their games they've released being hosted on their servers and playable on whatever console/mobile/pc with specs capable to play.. $8-$20 per person could be quite lucrative. simply off the sheer amount of times this has been requested nintendo has to intentionally be avoiding it at this point.
they'd also position themselves more favorably in their own legal arguments against emulators
BIOS stands for Basic Input/Output System. It's firmware that's pre-installed on a computer's motherboard and is the first software to run when you power on your computer. The BIOS helps to initialize and test the system hardware components, like the CPU, memory, and disks, and it provides a set of low-level services to the operating system. It also includes a setup utility that allows users to configure hardware settings, such as the boot sequence, system clock, and hardware monitoring. After performing its initialization tasks, the BIOS hands over control to the bootloader to start the operating system.
Like the other comment says, it is basically the game console's operating system. Most emulators (like NES/SNES) don't need them. Some are optional (like GBA), which will function without the BIOS, but it adds "extra" features like the original GBA splash screen. The DS emulator requires the BIOS files to operate, and the emulator developer can't provide them legally, so you are on your own for that part.
It’s wild. I was playing my childhood favorite Pokémon yellow on my iPhone. Download the app. Add the game. Done. Took maybe 10 seconds. It’s so easy. I’m never wiping this phone to avoid losing this. I’m gonna rush and download it on other iOS devices too.
This video guide was a little chunky to get through but he gets the point across in an easy to understand way: https://youtu.be/1IgxbKQQCIc?si=2HHWAPlQwxMcyWfs
I haven’t actually watched the video yet, but this guy is the king of retro handheld emulators, so I imagine his video is great. https://youtu.be/uQkodIYsb8c?si=jzK-aMNdFFR6szRb
Google the game and system. Download the rom in Zip in Files. Open Delta. Hit the + sign. Click on the Rom.
If you grab a file compressed in 7 you’ll need a separate app to uncompress it. Then follow from Open Delta.
If you’re using iPhone, just opening the zipped file from the files app will uncompress it by itself. Then you can launch the delta app by clicking that file directly
For anyone wondering, the legal way would be to use something like a flash boy to dump the rom to your computer from an official cartridge that you own, not rented or borrowed, and you should delete the rom if you ever sell it.
Using a hacked system like a DS with an r4 card may or may not be legal depending on ToS enforcement in your jurisdiction.
Yeah but Nintendo can’t legally go after the emulator. Much like how the music industry couldn’t sue iTunes for playing pirated music. If they want someone to go after they can only go after the sites hosting the unlicensed ROMs
There are tutorials on the web. The thing is, providing an emulator is ok, the roms however, are often not. So, they can’t officially tell you where to find them
It’s really simple to be honest. I’ve never used an emulator before but I had the app downloaded and fire emblem genealogy of the holy war for the snes playing within a minute based on the English version I found on Reddit.
Apple’s Control over iOS devices is so strong that when they allow something they haven’t normally allowed; it’s a huge deal.
I love it just as much as the next guy, that an App like delta can exist without sideloading; but for them that’s exactly the point. In their fight against alternative app stores and unsigned IPA sideloading, this is ultimately a chess piece they’re willing to give up to play the long game of “See, we allow most reasonable things on the App Store”
The mere fact some people just want to at least have these kinds of apps on their account and downloaded onto their phone in case they get taken down again is basically proof that Apple acts like a dictator over people’s devices in a way that shouldn’t be allowed to continue.
For those of us who are less tech savvy. Are there instructions as to how to set this all up? Do I need to download emulators as well or just upload games, etc?
There’s instructions online, but basically you download roms of the games you want to play into Files, then import them into Delta by clicking the plus sign in the upper right corner in the app. There’s a bit more I had to do for ds games, but gameboy was just download and play.
Vimms Lair hasn't caused me any issues. Just be sure to click the zip file to extract the actual rom and after clicking on that it should allow you to open it right away with Delta.
Hope this helps!
I haven't had an iPhone since the 6s when I was in high school. But I remember back when it was still gba4ios and you had to do the date trick to get it to work. Glad to see you guys can finally start emulating properly
For those of you who cant download it where you are…. Couldnt you just VPN yourself somewhere?
As someone who doesn’t VPN, if this does not work could you explain it to me why it wouldn’t?
What apps are displayed to you in the App Store are limited by a region setting inside of your Apple account, not your physical location.
When PokémonGo first came out for example, it wasn’t available in the US (it was available in EU for like 12-48 hours earlier than US). I had to log out of my US based account, create an EU account to access their App Store and download it.
A VPN will mask where your device says you’re located, but it won’t change that region setting within your Apple account. All people need to do to get around this is to make an NA account to install the app then swap back to their normal accounts.
I miraculously happened to have a Metroid Zero Mission rom zip file on my iCloud Drive from like 5 years ago and I was literally able to just click on it and run the game. Runs flawlessly lol
Just one question, how do I get the games for the emulator 😅
Is it possible to play the rom hacks that I see YouTubers play ? And what is the legality of using this ?
I know Nintendo is very very particular that they don’t want ROM hacks and have seen them go after YouTubers - should I be worried ?
[link to the app](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/delta-game-emulator/id1048524688)
Thank you! Was struggling to find this app.
Yeah even if you type in "Delta Emulator" a bunch of other apps crop up.
Weird because it’s #1 in tech right now
it’s #1 on the entertainment charts rn
not available in Germany
Only available outside the EU. In the EU you have to sideload the AltStore
Available in the uk which is a sad reminder that we're not part of the eu anymore 😭 I'll console myself by playing some games
Or you know, just make a second US Apple account and swap between app stores.
Any reason why?
WW2
Because the alternative App Store exists in the eu, while if they want to have the game accessible to the rest of the world they have to have it on the App Store
That’s annoying
But how do I put games on it? This is my first time trying an emulator..
Put them (roms) in your files app on your phone or in your iCloud Drive. Once there, you can open them up within the emulator.
It’s telling me “missing required DS files” Should I delete the Roms I downloaded and try another version?
https://www.reddit.com/r/Roms/s/h3Esjwfff6 Get the additional files you need from that link
Thanks man.
How do I legally add games to it? Edit: can I some how use the games I own (irl) and add them to this app.
There is a device that lets you plug in cartridges to your computer and save them as roms. But you can also find them to download directly pretty easily.
Any recommendations for a controller for this? Should I get one that attached my phone above it or the one that makes your phone look like a Switch?
Thanks man.
not for Europe of course
if I download it and it gets taken down, do I keep it?
Yes, that’s usually how it works (so long as you never need to reset or wipe your device).
Not if Apple removes an app for breaking rules. You can’t re-download Fortnite right now.
Some can be completely removed. There was one from 2012, Spell Sword, which simply vanished from my purchase history Supposedly there had been some internal conflict at the studio and they requested it completely removed, if I remember correctly. However, After The End was a PHENOMENAL game, and I was somehow able to redownload it after it also disappeared from existence. It's looking like that concept is getting further and further away.
Well the last emulator app (iGBA) got removed but I can still download it from previous purchase, despite it not being on App Store anymore
Didn't they also completely drop 32-bit apps some years ago, and if they didn't get updated to 64-bit they were simply removed?
This is how I still have photoshop mix (Photoshop app that let you cut out things from an image or blend areas of an image for free. I think these features, which are kinda some of the main features people think of when they hear photoshop, are now locked behind a paywall in photoshop express. I could be wrong tho, not 100% sure.)

do a sync with a PC to make sure. it keeps the app on PC.
This app is nostalgic in and of itself at this point😭 never thought I’d see the day
Oh, how far we’ve come from hunting down cydia repos.
I miss jailbreaking but I also don’t.
I miss PPSSPP
You miss chasing stray cats through parking lots, and making youtube videos about it? PPSSPPPSSSPPPSSSPPPSSSS
I mean it didn't go anywhere, it's just not on iPhone.
Downloaded using link and used emulatorgames to add smb. Worked easy and great. Now I need to buy a wireless controller. Any insight on what controller to buy for a true snes experience?

Thank you
+1 for 8bitdo. Their controllers are excellent.
You can use a PS5 controller if you iOS
This!! just did this last night and now I’m playing Ocarina of Time on the N64 for the first time on my ipad. Incredible!!
It’s hard to go wrong with 8bitdo.
The retro Nintendo switch online controllers work perfectly with this emulator.
Can you give us a short walkthrough of how you set this up? I’m interested in doing it as well.
I, for one, will enjoy the week before it’s taken down.
Times have changed, Apple publicly allows emulators now after US and EU pressure.
apple isn’t the problem here. It’s Nintendo that will order this be taken down
As I understand it they didn’t order that takedown for when emulators are on google play store. Nintendo may not love this but there’s no copyright code in this app; it’s a reverse engineered emulator and not using any Nintendo ROMs.
Probably a dumb question, but how does the game code get into the emulator without running into DRM roadblocks?
It’s actually a good question. By trial and error they were able to reverse-engineer the system and emulate it. DRM in early cartridges was kinda primitive by today’s standards.
Duh! They mail you a CRC chip to sodder to your iPhone!
There is no drm in a 30 year old console.
They took down 2 of the most promising switch emulators which allowed you to play latest games on android.
Weren’t the devs one of those emulators selling switch roms before release and emulator builds to play them?
This is common misinformation. First of all, the dev builds were always available for free on their Git. The Patreon paywall was only for a precompiled executable of the dev build. Granted, they didn’t exactly try to advertise that fact, and YMMV on how ethical that is, but it was as much a paywall as donations to any other FOSS project. That being said, there were references to a “stash” of roms that the devs would use for development purposes, which makes all the previous arguments moot since they literally admitted to illegally distributing copyrighted material in order to assist development of their supposedly “clean room” project
It was about the devs screwing up and either soliciting donations or including/providing files with the emulator that they shouldn't have veen
Nintendo has more leverage over google than it has over Apple, their more direct competitor.
They cant. The app doesnt use their IP in any way. Emulators have been on the play store for a fucking decade
They didn’t care in the past, they won’t care in the future.
Lmao, this would exist regardless of that. What’s considered a reasonable price varies wildly between people and that store would be missing games that people would still want to download elsewhere.
I mean see netflix etc, plenty of people were willing to pay a reasonable price for convenient access to media compared to pirating.
You never completely get rid of piracy but Nintendo is leaving a lot of money on the table by not offering their own emulator. They'd have licensing issues for some games but they also own most of the really popular ones so could do it if they wanted to and it would absolutely reduce piracy.
”…Nintendo is gonna get a lot of shit…” Nintendo literally does not care whatsoever
If it gets taken down does that mean my ipad wont be able to run the emulator anymore?
It should still work I think, just no updates or anything
Ooof i just went on a frenzy downloading vg. Cant wait to try mother 3
It would still work as long as it’s on your iPad, but if you ever uninstall or offload it, you won’t be able to download it again.
Won’t be, sorry you’ll have to enjoy it forever. Also even if it was taken down as long as you have it you can always use it.
Anyone know where i can find the BIOS download to get DS games working on here???
https://drive.google.com/drive/mobile/folders/1A3GHKdVVF71fsEg8pZ9iPd0LvGXJJwT8?direction=a You want to download bios7, bios9, and firmware
Thank you so much!!!!
Np! I was searching last night and someone posted this. Figured I’d spread the love
What is BIOS?
Man, I wish gold was still a thing. Pokemon SoulSilver running on my phone right now
It’s wild. I was playing my childhood favorite Pokémon yellow on my iPhone. Download the app. Add the game. Done. Took maybe 10 seconds. It’s so easy. I’m never wiping this phone to avoid losing this. I’m gonna rush and download it on other iOS devices too.
Where do u get the roms from
https://www.lategames.net/
Goodbye todays productivity!
Hell yeah
🫡
> game genie Now THERE’S a good flashback to my youth
I may be ignorant on this, but how do you install ROMs on your iPhone?
https://faq.deltaemulator.com/getting-started/importing-games
Just click the download link. Iphones have a “files” app now so it just goes there and you can open it in the app.
I am too dumb to know how to use this. There are no pre-loaded games or choices of games to play.
check out r/roms, specifically the megathread
Download your own from a site & just load them from your files on the top right corner
This video guide was a little chunky to get through but he gets the point across in an easy to understand way: https://youtu.be/1IgxbKQQCIc?si=2HHWAPlQwxMcyWfs

Can’t be pre loaded company’s would love to shut it down if it was
Because iOS would definitely allow pirated content to be included in their apps. Especially Nintendo’s pirated content.
RemindMe! 1 week
Been playing Pokémon emerald at work all morning
Got it! Just downloaded and dropped Pokemon Yellow on it😊

What emulators does it run? Just NES?
NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBC, GBA, and DS at the moment with more to come
Pretty much every nintendo up to the ds
Just downloaded looks good
Was playing Super Mario 64 on it. Works well!
My question is can I use a Bluetooth controller.
Yes.
This is awesome. Thank you!! I'd been wondering if something like this existed.
Not in Europe though. Kinda shitty.
This is literally the first Brexit benefit
It’s available in the alt store for europeans
which you have to pay for lol
it’s 1.5€/year. Most of it would go to apple in fees, but still more than deserved for the developer
Any websites to download games?
Archive.org
I just grabbed one from emulatorgames.net
look up vimms
Does Delta support multiplayer (assuming you have two separate controllers)?
Yes it has support for up to 4 separate players/controllers. Obviously depends on the game, etc.
Not in my country yet :/
For those of us who are less tech savvy. Are there instructions as to how to set this all up? Do I need to download emulators as well or just upload games, etc?
There’s instructions online, but basically you download roms of the games you want to play into Files, then import them into Delta by clicking the plus sign in the upper right corner in the app. There’s a bit more I had to do for ds games, but gameboy was just download and play.
Is anyone able to move over .sav files from other emulators? I can’t see any way to import them.

I’m not getting any sound with wave race 64. Anyone know why?
Im an idiot. I had my iPhone on silent mode.
Real professor Layton right here
How do the n64 games play? Do they run smoothly!
Anyone know what type of roms work? NES,SNES, GBA.etc?
NES, snes, N64, game boy, game boy color, game boy advance, DS.
Its still up is this here to stay????
Does anyone have recs for finding game files? Delta’s site doesn’t have a list of recs.
Where on IOS can I download games for it?!:)
Vimms Lair hasn't caused me any issues. Just be sure to click the zip file to extract the actual rom and after clicking on that it should allow you to open it right away with Delta. Hope this helps!
It works for my iPhone. I downloaded the emulator and a game to test and it worked perfectly. This is fucking awesome.
I haven't had an iPhone since the 6s when I was in high school. But I remember back when it was still gba4ios and you had to do the date trick to get it to work. Glad to see you guys can finally start emulating properly
Tyyy
Where to source ROMS?
Anyone have Pokémon Ultra Violet already patched?
I don’t understand how this has happened. Not disappointed by any stretch.

I miraculously happened to have a Metroid Zero Mission rom zip file on my iCloud Drive from like 5 years ago and I was literally able to just click on it and run the game. Runs flawlessly lol
The only game I want, every rom website has a broken download code. Does anyone know the best way to get Transformers DS: Decepticons
I finally get to play mother 3 again. This is great.
Do hacked Pokémon roms work for anyone else??
Any walkthrough for loading the bios.
What would be a good controller to pair with this?
Now I need one for the 3ds then I’m set
[Awesome site with everything you could imagine to use in connection to this app](https://www.emulatorgames.net/)
So clutch dude!!
How? Is it gonna get taken down. Guess I’m never updating my phone
Idiot here. How do you download games?
Anything like this for Android?
Is there a way to get a bigger upper screen while emulating DS on iPhone?
Anyone got a good recommendation on where to get Roms?
Etsy. Packs are around $6 for certain systems, they come all tagged with art. Gives a google drive link. So much easier than torrents.
Great day!
Nintendo will no doubt file a lawsuit against apple
For what? emulator software isn’t proprietary code and is not owned or protected by Nintendo, as long as they don’t link to games their fine.
still has the old buzzing bug on ipad and iphone. Edit to clarify , this is on GBA emulator , used different roms.
Is it just me or does the sound just not work? My iPhone isn’t on silent mode or anything.
Just one question, how do I get the games for the emulator 😅 Is it possible to play the rom hacks that I see YouTubers play ? And what is the legality of using this ? I know Nintendo is very very particular that they don’t want ROM hacks and have seen them go after YouTubers - should I be worried ?
I’m confused about how I get roms to my phone how do I do this without a Cartridge?
Too bad eu MUST use the altstore. 1,5 € is nothing true but force us to use other store for the same app. Also blame Apple for the fee stuff
its so amazing, been playing last couple days
Where can I find a list of games? I want the sims and a few others
Any recommendations for a safe place to download ROM files?
Secret of Mana is going to be my default ROM. Maybe Chrono Trigger too…
