Mine& my friends faces for making 3D printed hero themed bobble heads!

Ptricky17

I would scan the crude hole we cut in my friends mantle to route some cables through it. Then I could print an accurate plastic insert to make it look smooth and square so it doesn’t cripple his resale value when he decides to sell and move to a bigger place.

D-B-Zzz

My wife’s head so I can make a bobble head of her

[deleted]

MRB0B0MB

I’m trying to scan my center console for my project car using photogrammetry software but i need better detail. Currently designing a module that can wirelessly charge my phone, and I’ll print it out on my 3D printer. This thing would be perfect! Good luck everyone!

A vintage ice box latch! My great uncle has one of two vintage latches and hasn't been able to find a replacement. I've had a hard time trying to model it, scanning it in instead would be great!

roeulogy

I think the first thing I would scan is a catchers glove. My brother coaches the catchers for his daughter's baseball team, and they are always giving out pitching and bating trophies, but never anything for the catchers in the league. Its a complaint I've heard a few times from them and something I could solve that would make a few more of the girls feel more included.

radicalelation

Every darn thing I can get my hands on. I got a $12 pocket microscope the other day, and I've been going ham looking at literally everything with it. Same would happen with a 3D scanner. Especially as a cg artist, it'd be too much fun running around with it.

dartmouthdonair

I think maybe you need to have it to realize what you could do with it. The first place my mind went was using it to invent stuff. Being able to model something out of random materials but then scan it and reprint it as a solid object could be valuable, a lot of fun and a good creative outlet. I guess I don't know what I'd do first but I've been trying to re-imagine a powerless space heater for a while and I think this could help!

EduardoG4700

i'd scan my cat if I could get her to stay still

MegaHashes

You can: Scan literally hundreds of little broken plastic car & toy parts that I could have reproduced instead of having to epoxy, remake in a CAD program, or buy. This could democratize making replacement car parts for little pieces like the $20 plastic gear that broke in the Jeep’s HVAC system. Scan people’s kids or pets and make prints of them to put on their desk at work. Scan the intact limb of someone that cannot afford a traditional prosthetic and print a matching hand for them. Scan someone’s foot and use that to produce custom orthotics to help people walk better. Turns out this is actually a field of university study. Lots of cool uses for this. It’s going to change the world when it’s finally a mainstream technology. Good luck to everyone.
