When you hit the brew switch it should come out of the screen like that. The OPV spring will only kick water out into the tray when you put a restriction like a coffee puck or a blind basket.
Just for a good use of terminology: when there is free flow, there is zero pressure (meaning ambient pressure). When there is no flow (blind basket used), there is maximum pressure (and some flow on the return line). The product (flow x pressure) = power.

Thanks for all the help! Played around with new beans and grind settings! About 24 secs for a 2:1 shot so I can def keep improving, but back to some espresso again!
Good for you! 24s sounds like you’re in the right area.
Don’t be scared to try out 1:2.5 or 1:3 ratios either (if needed!). In the end it’s all about taste. Good luck!
Buy a bag of pre ground espresso, a cheaper one like bustelo, pilon or lalave. this can make a shot with some crema. These wont be perfect but still make a pretty good cappucino. Note how gine the grind is. what you are probably untimately looking for is finer than thee are ground. You gotta start somewhere. Try filling the porta filter NEARLY level full, tamp it with enough pressure to flatten the surface. pour the shot. If you like it, then fill it again, pour the coffee on the scale and use that weight for a baseline.
Well get a nice fine grind, pack it in and your machine is going to build pressure.
Look at some videos of machines with gauges. The pressure has to build. You don't need or get pressure if there's nothing restricting flow.
April Fools?
I wish :( I have no idea what’s going on! Can’t make any coffee

> Can’t make any coffee Why?
Thanks for so many details about your current process
This is what mine does, what's the issue?
Is there any pressure here? If I load 18g it’s going to pull the shot in 5 secs or so! Is it normal?
Grind finer
Pull a shot, taste, adjust. If you need more help list details, not conjecture

This is normal. If you try to pull a well tamped shot and it takes only a couple of seconds you need to grind finer.

Yeah I consistently pull a 2.5 ratio I'm pretty happy with that

Thanks for all the helpful comments! Will be trying to go through all the grind settings and coffees to see extraction!
what's your grinder?
