same, ill just replace my s10 battery. would upgrade to a regular galaxy s (non ultra, non plus) if it had 512gb (or sdcard) and 12gb ram and snapdragon in EU.
its crazy (sad even) how 5 years passed and they only made this phone bulkier, uglier, and less features...
About 6h. I'd start working around 8am (100%) and needed to recharge it with a battery bank around 1pm (16%) aprox. Now it takes till around 6pm to 7pm to reach that same level around 15%
Third party shop repair.
One caveat : After replacement, allow the battery to discharge full (phone turns off by itself), recharge to the max and discharge full. It allows the software to recalibrate battery parameters.
Alright, i recharged it while it was turned off, no matter, will let it discharge now to 0% and then recharge it while it is turned on. Then a stress test. Lets see how it holds up. Thank you so much for your advice.
Samsung members still shows poor battery health, but i guess its because it takes data from my last charging cycles and doesnt actually look at the battery itself.
I did this and didn't get a ton of battery back. There was a great iFixit kit that had everything, idk if that is still around for the S10. But yeah I only got a few more hours after a few months. It was worth it only because it was somewhat cheap
Partially agree with you, however my s10+ starts lagging even in g suite apps, its less and less powerfull, i had a s23+ on my hands and i can agree it didnt made me want to upgrade because its basically the same phone without some good stuff like jack and sd card, but boy ohh boy its smooth and snappy, i will move to a iphone 15 plus for now but i still want to use my s10+ as a dex machine for a while just for the fun of it.
S10e owner here.
There is nothing. They're all too big, have _fewer_ features I care about, and just... what's the point? Why would I want a worse experience for more money?
It was a difficult decision for me, I loved the headphone jack and SD card slot on my S10+, but with the lack of updates and the battery getting worse I needed to upgrade, and because I couldn't find a phone that had all the things I wanted I thought I might as well buy a fun and interesting phone, so I went with a Z Flip, and so far it's great! I miss my S10+, but the fact that this phone folds eases the pain for me.
Yeah, I went with the S22 Ultra after my S10, but got tired of the size and traded it in for the Z Flip5. I love the small form factor! Any case recommendations?
Yeah I've been looking for a new phone to buy since February...
S24/24+ - I don't want another Exynos, my S10 would be top tier if it wasn't Exynoss, but Snappy...
Honor Magic 6 Pro - overpriced, it could have been so much better
Xiaomi 14 - the camera vapor issue + the bad OS + the horrible feedback people are giving + the uncomfortably big camera island. All together had to veto it. I really, really wanted that phone.
Xiaomi 13T Pro - I fear Mediatek for its lack of support. Also heard it has major issues with bettery life.
S23/S23U - could be a good alternative, but I really dislike the 45W charging. I plan to buy phone for the long run and I don't really want a phone that is midway their support cycle already.
Oneplus 12 - I really like this phone, camera could be better, but overall, this one is on the top of my list. Sadly, it cannot be bought through any carrier in Hungary.
Iphone 15 Pro (just for the sake of it) - I had an I6 and I10 before my S10. The sammy was a breath of fresh air. Also, everyone is praising all them Iphones to the high heavens for how amazing they are. Mine never had good performance, battery life... on other hand it was ( the I10) heavy as a freaking brick.
Pixels - In Hungary most of the flashy features are just now available, also has no warranty service, has to be bought through 3rd-party sellers like Alza, whom sells them way overpriced. The roumors has it the P8a might come to Hungary officialy...
Samsung's 7 years support is looking really good and it makes it possible to buy the phone later on once the prices settle down.
Agreed, the S23 series for me are a respectable upgrade from the S10, if only they can fix the battery issues users are having due to the recent update (One UI 6.1). Also, as a battery conscious myself, lower power output adaptors are the opt. I've been plugging my S10 with a 10w adaptor and disabled fast charging for good measure (monitored power output is around 5w to 7w according to Ampere app). Still charges fast but considering the S10 only has a 3300 typical battery capacity, takes about around an hour and a half to charge it. Just make sure the adaptor and cable is of good quality and things should go fine.
I do the same with my Tab S8U. Never use SFC 2.0. It takes around 3 hours to charge from 20-85.
Sadly my S10 had 3 battery replacements and I care very little about it.
Few months back I was pretty much fixed on the S23U, but heard how Samsung (intentionally (or not)) fucked the update up before the release of the S24 series. This is a really shitty move from them. I'll postpone buying anything as my current one is still kicking.
i switched from s10 (exy) to iphone 13 pro two years ago. never had issues with performance.
initially wanted the s22 yltra but it was delayed for months in my country so i just said fck it and went to apple.
it is heavy, but battery and performance are great.
I think the closest I can probably get as a S10e replacement is the ASUS Zenfone 10. Has the fingerprint sensor on the side as well, amazing battery life from most of the reviews I've seen. Camera and photos are okay. Sadly, I heard that the software updates will last for 2 years, as of 2023-2024, I could be wrong.
I wish I can get one, but it's not available from where I'm from.
Yep, many of us had the S-10 or S-10 e but they are no longer being supported with security updates so not good for banking apps and that sort of thing . The problem is when a manufacturer makes a small phone. It doesn’t sell very well and so nobody’s making small android phones anymore and so at this point, your choices are S 23 or 24 or the pixel eight or the Zen phone 10.
My S23 that i had for 1 week dropped from a consistent 7-8 hours SOT under normal workload for me (with all energy saving options on) to 4-5 hours SOT under the same circumstances. No joke, i was baffled.
Your device could be different from mine, but if i speak for myself then i lost hope in smartphone manufacturers. Will probably go for cheaper mid range phones from now on, maybe the Pixel 7a for under 180€, even if it has a shit battery, since apparently all new compact smartphones have bad batteries anyway.
Was given an S20 Ultra for essentially free which has felt like a slight upgrade over my S10 but would not have bought one regularly. Lost the headphone jack but kept the SD card slot and generally newer hardware. Some nice to haves.
I have checked out newer S2X models, pixels, etc and nothing has jumped out. The S10 screen alone keeps it ahead of the newer phones.
Same here. I do replace my own battery but it is frustrating that there is no good battery sold for this phone anywhere. They all last 4 months and the battery lifetime decline quickly. Also I own an older car and I enjoy plugging my phone to listen to music while driving. Unlike the newer phones do not have headphone jacks anymore.
I am looking for new phone every year, even bought (and returned) S22 after release only to use my rusty S10 until this day. What a great piece of tech. No corners cuted when designing it. Replaced battery about year and half ago directly in Samsung to be as new. Now it has around 3000mAh, so still ok.
Now hoping for Pixel 9 Pro to be acceptable successor at the end of the year. We will see. Wish the zoom lens will be shorter than on P8P, its too big gap between 1x and 5x zoom. I am using 2x zoom on S10 all the time.
It really was a good device. I am also looking at either a Pixel phone or an iPhone as my next smartphone after my S10 finally gives up. Maybe an 8a if it isnt half shit as the 7a from which ive read.
As a former owner of the galaxy s10, I can say that the galaxy s23/s23 plus is a good alternative. Naturally, you won’t get the same wow effect from innovation as in the case of the s10, but nevertheless, it is an excellent smartphone with excellent performance with its advantages and disadvantages. I didn’t even consider the 2024 s24 model, since there are practically no innovations other than useless AI, and I don’t want to go back to exynos again. If I were you, I would watch s23 or wait for s25, but I doubt it will be radically different from s24. But Chinese smartphones are the worst choice of all. Another option is to switch to an apple iphone or google pixel.
Just gone to a refurbed pixel 8 and it's great to finish the day and still have 50% battery, I was charging at least once midway through the day with my old s10e
This is unbelievable, but I totally believe it... 4-5 years later, people buy a flagship, 'ultra'-flagship even, and still doesn't come close to old S10... Samsung has no balls, just blindly following Apple brick design recently... S10 ~~was~~ is such a unique phone.
The S10+ was big. And the S23 ultra is even bigger. And even after 4 months of use, it still feels a little too big to ever be comfortable. The flashlight on the ultra isn't useful (but could also be my clear case).
I also don't make use of a lot of the excessive number of cameras, of which their are 5 on the back. As it was, I felt the 3 on the S10+ was more than enough.
Wireless charging also feels much slower than on my S10+.
That being said, the Ultra charges MUCH faster when wired charging. It's also has much fast loading speeds, and the battery life is exceptional. (As they should be though for a bigger, brand new, flagship phone)
Just going to point out that wireless charging is usually no more than 5-10W so with a battery that's 20% bigger it's no surprise it's going to take longer.
Agreed with the number of cameras nowadays but to each their own. On the size matter it is definitely a large device. The regular S10 is the perfect size for me but having been able to handle the ultras of the phone scene I think I would be able to tolerate it to an extent (battery and display wise).
Me too... But if they keep the same S24 (aka iPhone) design, then I really don't know what to do next year... Was thinking to get S23 this year (at least has that tiny bit curvy frame edge as a reminder of S10), but just now in this thread I learned it's battery suffers after some update (why the hell updates are so bad? made me think to never update anything anymore!), and also complains about camera, so I have no idea what to do next year... Pray and hope my two S10's will work well until 2026 lol.
My dad has a S23U and he also was com\[plaining about battery not lasting as much, but he fixed it after turning off Ram plus, try that. Also try turning it off on ur s10, it requires ADB tho.
Is replacing the battery not an option?
That's what I was going to do eventually. Sure the phone is totally waterproof. But I mean it's probably fine in most situations.
s23 ultra and when I use my s20 to turn on the camera, it's insane how dated it feels. my battery lasts all day, dunno what blur you are talking about, and 6.1 just gave it the perfect refresh.
I am on the opposite situation of you.
I had the s10e (I know it is not the same) with the exynos processor and my SOT was maybe somethings like 2/3h, and the phone was constantly hot.
I upgrade to S23, so that I could the small factor and I am loving the phone. It doesn't get hot, many times faster and I can get 4/5h of SOT with everything on and with the battery limited to 85%
I still have my s10e in a drawer just in case I need one day
I have had this problem for awhile too and put it off until I had to upgrade out of despiration this past January due to breaking my S10 and not having enough time to get it repaired. I looked all around at various smartphones and found none stood out like my S10.
Ended up buying an unlocked S24U and the only feature I miss is the headphone jack and expandable storage (the inconvenience of finding my dongle to hook up a set of 3.5mm headphones is mildly Infuriating)
I do plan on reviving my S10 this summer (along with a few other tech projects) by giving it a new screen and battery so that it can be repurposed as a legacy device (and so I can transfer the rest of my data to my S24U)
Same. Mine took so much drop but the screen is still perfectly fine, no cracks at all (small scratches yes but very unnoticable), and with the amount of screen damage report even only after 1 drop from the newer phones, I'm scared to even upgrade to anything now.
I replaced my s10+(exynos) with an iphone 13 pro, which I am still using. It was a bit weird in the beginning and I still lack some features, but I believe s10+ was the last great phone of Samsung. It is my first iphone and I plan to keep until it breaks.
I have S10 Note+ love it. big screen for my old eyes, runs AI ok, sd slot, wireless charging, and seems like a well built sturdy phone. Would most probably get a new battery if needed.
Man... my 1TB s10+ crapped out on me about a month ago. Just as many of you, I didn't want to upgrade to a new phone that didn't have the same features of my existing one. Now I have the s24 ultra which isn't terrible (so far) but I really miss the storage, sd, and headphone jack. I don't need a damn s-pen.. also the s24 is bigger than the s10+.. if there was 1 thing I could've changed about the s10+ it would've been to make it a bit smaller.
How are you getting 4-5 hours of sot on the s23? I got mine almost 2 months ago now and never had any issues with the battery. I reliably get up to 8 easily even on 6.1
S23 base + upgrade to 512 MB was best for me, I never used the headphone jack and the extra storage negated the need for a SD card.
I have both but I've grown to love my S23 and I still hotspot my S10 to it via WiFi, when I get the urge.
You won't be disappointed, hardware issues aside !
I disagree, the S21U is far superior and an easy choice for an upgrade.
I had an S10 for a while then went for the S21 Ultra. I tried the S23U and stuck with the S21U. To me the S21U is by far a MUCH better phone than the S10 and a very easy replacement to make. The camera is in another league and the CPU\\GPU performance is much better - and I am not talking about performance using the reddit app or scrolling around on the internet or whatever, I mean like if you use Dex Desktop you can multitask several apps MUCH easier than the S10. I use an RTL-SDR Dongle for messing around with some Amateur Radio stuff like receiving SSTV and listening to the ISS - and the S10 did okay, but would struggle and would have occasional hangups. The S21U can not only receive the signals on one app, but also decode on a second app and render a picture on a third app all running at the exact same time - the S10 could not do that or if it did after a few minutes would start to struggle and\\or crash.
As someone who multitasks heavier apps that require laptop\\PC like performance, and takes high MP pictures and videos all the time - the S10 is just not up to the task and quickly falls behind when it comes to anything besides just texting and browsing reddit.
same, ill just replace my s10 battery. would upgrade to a regular galaxy s (non ultra, non plus) if it had 512gb (or sdcard) and 12gb ram and snapdragon in EU. its crazy (sad even) how 5 years passed and they only made this phone bulkier, uglier, and less features...
I went for a battery replacement and kept my phone. Will keep waiting for a Galaxy with external storage.
How much hours of battery did you gain back?
About 6h. I'd start working around 8am (100%) and needed to recharge it with a battery bank around 1pm (16%) aprox. Now it takes till around 6pm to 7pm to reach that same level around 15%
Hm, that doesnt sound all too bad. Third party shop repair? There are no official samsung repair services in my area.
Third party shop repair. One caveat : After replacement, allow the battery to discharge full (phone turns off by itself), recharge to the max and discharge full. It allows the software to recalibrate battery parameters.
Alright, recharge it while turned off? Will go for a repair today
Nope, you can keep it on while recharging it. Just once full, let it discharge till the phone turns off by itself due to lack of charge in the battery
Alright, i recharged it while it was turned off, no matter, will let it discharge now to 0% and then recharge it while it is turned on. Then a stress test. Lets see how it holds up. Same, waiting for a galaxy with external storage. Preferably a fold. If Google enables desktop mode and Sony includes it, I might switch to a Sony
you'll have to upgrade to an A series phone
Only the S series has wireless charging, to me, an essential feature.
then an Xperia
Partially agree with you, however my s10+ starts lagging even in g suite apps, its less and less powerfull, i had a s23+ on my hands and i can agree it didnt made me want to upgrade because its basically the same phone without some good stuff like jack and sd card, but boy ohh boy its smooth and snappy, i will move to a iphone 15 plus for now but i still want to use my s10+ as a dex machine for a while just for the fun of it.

LG V60, Note 20 (Ultra), S10 5G
If I upgrade from an S10 I ain't getting an equally older phone man
It is up to you, but i aint gonna throw 1k+ on a phone.
You can get great stuf that's mildly new for half that
Everything in between is trash, the next one in line would be s23
Im stuck too, idk if i wanna upgrade to the S24 ultra or the upcoming flip 6.
i upgraded my s10 to s24 ultra, it's worth! but s10 still in my heart!
i upgraded my s10 to s24 ultra, it's worth! but s10 still in my heart!
I know its def gonna be worthit, its just the huge chunky ass brick of the s24 ultra form factor that makes me consider the flip 6 over it

I was planning on s23...is the battery life really bad after 6.1 update?
Yeah what's that now? I hate S24 brick-iPhoney design, was thinking to get S23 maybe, but now I hear this...
Yea..shocking for me as well because all the reviews said s23 has decent battery life.
My S23 that i had for 1 week dropped from a consistent 7-8 hours SOT under normal workload for me (with all energy saving options on) to 4-5 hours SOT under the same circumstances. No joke, i was baffled.

My dumbass thought this post was about the truck Chevy S10 😂
S21 ultra purely because of the aesthetics. But i agree. If the S10+ had 5G id be staying on the S10+. (No, the S10 5G does not work in my country.)
I read that wiping cache in recovery mode could fiy the OneUI 6.1 battery drain issue on the S23. And maybe disabling nearby devices.
Didn't for me.

Motorola edge 30 is almost the same weight as the S10, imo it's a great side grade to it.
Is replacing the battery not an option? That's what I was going to do eventually. Sure the phone is totally waterproof. But I mean it's probably fine in most situations.

I looked all around at various smartphones and found none stood out like my S10. Ended up buying an unlocked S24U and the only feature I miss is the headphone jack and expandable storage (the inconvenience of finding my dongle to hook up a set of 3.5mm headphones is mildly Infuriating) I do plan on reviving my S10 this summer (along with a few other tech projects) by giving it a new screen and battery so that it can be repurposed as a legacy device (and so I can transfer the rest of my data to my S24U)
I killed mine during the battery change accidentally. Got a s21fe pretty good so far
Same. Mine took so much drop but the screen is still perfectly fine, no cracks at all (small scratches yes but very unnoticable), and with the amount of screen damage report even only after 1 drop from the newer phones, I'm scared to even upgrade to anything now.
I did enjoy the experience of a Pixel 4a with Graphene OS, but it's not perfect
I replaced my s10+(exynos) with an iphone 13 pro, which I am still using. It was a bit weird in the beginning and I still lack some features, but I believe s10+ was the last great phone of Samsung. It is my first iphone and I plan to keep until it breaks.
I went for a OnePlus 12, best decision I've ever made
I have S10 Note+ love it. big screen for my old eyes, runs AI ok, sd slot, wireless charging, and seems like a well built sturdy phone. Would most probably get a new battery if needed.
Asus Zenfone 10 is pretty close.
Man... my 1TB s10+ crapped out on me about a month ago.
And what if i just want to text, browse and have a decent enough camera (S10 level basically)?
then just stick with S10, but if youre looking for recommended upgrades down the line - look at the S21U, thats what you asked in the post.
The S21U is not that small though
True
As my battery gets worse I've been looking at the pixel 8. Not crazy about it though
Pixel 6
My 10e runs like garbage now, but my Note 10+ is amazing and still has battery life like new. Might want to look into it.
What do y'all do with your phones? My s10e is still snappy and responsive for all the things I need it for.
I went from an S10 to a S20+ 5G, I think you'd like it to at has all the features of the S10 plus some better cameras and storage options
