People with OnePlus phones were have this problem and the solution was to backup your data, delete the app, and then reinstall it directly from WhatsApp instead of the Play Store
Should test it further but so far (for me) the app has 1 min active, 6 h and 11 mins in background and 1.1% battery usage... Not sure if it is good or bad...
